The Verdict

Late in a murder trial,
the defense's case was going badly.
In his closing argument, the defense attorney said decisively,
"In about one minute, the alleged murder victim is going to walk through that door!"
All eyes, including those of the jury, were on the courtroom door.
After two minutes, when nothing had happened, the attorney said, "I know--he didn't.
But, ladies and gentlemen of the jury,you all looked toward the door. This means you had a reasonable doubt! Therefore, you must acquit!"
In a very short time, the jury returned. "Guilty!"
said the foreman. "How can you find 1this man guilty?" demanded the defense attorney.
"Everyone was looking at the courtroom door!"
replied the foreman, "Your client wasn't looking !"
