Yesterday we went to visit friend who live on Mount Soledad in La Jolla and I took this from their backyard..the picture isn't very good, but you get the idea...
-
Since some like Africa here's a few pics one of my daughters took while visiting last year. They went on a guided safari. My youngest daughter and her dh are still over there. Been there for a year. I think they're getting ready to track gorillas again. I believe their SOMEWHERE in Goban.
Hope you have strong stomachs. Can't believe dd watched this and took pics. The picture looks wrong, but it's right. LOL
He's really chomping down.
I'm glad she had a zoom. Sure would hate to be this close to this big cat.
Anyone want to ride the horsey?
Oh, aren't they cute! Wouldn't you like to tickle tummy. -
Gah!!!!!
-
Oh wow..what gorgeous pictures. Yes, gross, but absolutely amazing! I love them all. Thanks for sharing!
-
Shirley, those are great! I wouldn't want ot be that close either. Animal Planet has 2 shows on tonight about cats of all sizes.
Ravdeb, love the new avatar pic! I need to update mine to my new haircolor!
Lisa, I just love southern CA! So pretty!
Love and hugs,

That photo is gorgeous! You are quite talented behind the lens...are you a professional photographer?

Survival of the fittest...one of my favorite sayings is:
If life was fair, birds wouldn't eat worms. Thanks for sharing those.
Laura -
Great Africa pics. thanks for sharing.
Amy -
Thanks Laura..glad you like the photos..I am just a very amateur photographer but love to take pics..
-
Yep, that cat eating that whatever was definitely gross. I don't think I could've watched that in person. I can watch birds eating worms though. I hate worms. LOL
Since I'm not talented with taking my own pics I will share a few more of my daughter's. I can only imagine what it was like in Africa watching these beautiful creatures.
Here, we start with the elephants. Anyone have Elephant Ears (plants) in your yard?
Dirty elephant.
Aren't these naughty (dirty) babies adorable?
And, finally, the three muskateers! -
-
Oh, wow, Mary. What a beautiful baby. Much prettier than those baby elephants. I'm assuming "it's" a boy since HE's wearing blue.
Shirley
Opps, just saw where you said, "My knew grandson." -
Family keeps eating it, and it is so easy, I keep making it!
-
Wow Susan..it is cloning itself...
please send an aroma gram...it looks terrific.. -
Where's the recipe!?

Adapted from Jim Lahey, Sullivan Street Bakery
Time: About 1½ hours plus 14 to 20 hours rising
3 cups all-purpose or bread flour, more for dusting [430 grams] [can substitute up to 1/3 with wheat flour]
¼ teaspoon instant yeast
2 teaspoons kosher salt or 1 ½ teaspoons table salt
Cornmeal, flour or wheat bran as needed.
1. In a large bowl combine flour, yeast and salt. Add 1 1/2 cups water, and stir until blended; dough will be shaggy and sticky. Cover bowl with plastic wrap. Let dough rest at least 12 hours, preferably about 18, at room temperature.
2. Dough is ready when its surface is dotted with bubbles. Lightly flour a work surface and place dough on it; sprinkle it with a little more flour and fold it over on itself once or twice. Cover loosely with plastic wrap and let rest about 15 minutes.
3. Using just enough flour to keep dough from sticking to work surface or to your fingers, gently and quickly shape dough into a ball. Generously coat a cotton towel (not terry cloth) with flour, wheat bran or cornmeal; put dough seam side down on towel and dust with more flour, bran or cornmeal. Cover with another cotton towel and let rise for about 2 or 3 hours. When it is ready, dough will be more than double in size and will not readily spring back when poked with a finger.
4. At least a half-hour before dough is ready, heat oven to 450 degrees or higher. Put a 4-6-quart heavy covered pot (cast iron, enamel, Pyrex or ceramic) in oven as it heats. When dough is ready, carefully remove pot from oven. Slide your hand under towel and turn dough over into pot, seam side up; it may look like a mess, but that is O.K. Shake pan once or twice if dough is unevenly distributed; it will straighten out as it bakes. Cover with lid and bake 30 minutes, then remove lid and bake another 15 to 30 minutes, until loaf is beautifully browned. Cool on a rack.
Yield: One 1½-pound loaf. -
Thanks, I'll have to give it a try when kids come back home for a visit. I used to make sour dough bread which is soooo easy.
Shirley -
What a fabulous 'vanity' plate! I love it!
-
Susan..now that recipe does not sound easy...
I will just have to come and sample yours... -
If you would all like to see some awesome pictures of Africa, I have a niece and her husband who are in the Peace Corps over there. They have a website with lots of pictures: www.africandaylight.com
Enjoy! -
Aw, Vicky, I'll have to really look over their website later. I just "stopped in" for a minute. It looks very interesting. I may have to send it to my daughter and her DH who are travelling through Africa. I believe they're still in Goban and are hoping to get a visa into Angola (I believe). They have been gone for a year now and I miss them so.
Here's their website if anyone wishes to visit. They have not updated in three months. Had some hard times.

Shirley:
What a FANTASTIC website...and I'm sooo sorry they've had some hard times. I hope things will get better for them and that they continue to update. My son is leaving on March 9th with a friend from college for a trip around the world. They plan on being gone through at least November but they're hoping for a year or longer...as long as their money holds out. They'll be exploring 6 of the 7 continents. I'm e-mailing him your daughter and SIL's website. I know he will love it.
I envy all of these young travelers. -
i, also, e-mailed my mother the link to this thread because of the bread recipe.
