Lymph Node Mapping

My mother recently went through another mastectomy after being cancer free for 30 years. Prior to her surgery, lymph node mapping was performed without any anesthetic and her pain was an 11 on a scale of 1-10. Has anyone else ever encounterd this?

My mom just went through that same process and she said it was awful. I can't believe they don't give some sort of anesthetic. I felt so bad for her. My mom has a pretty high tolerance for pain but this procedure really hurt.
