Werewolves


I hear howling outside!

I'm sure
there's a pack of werewolves
scratching at my back door --
... trying to get in,
...... get me!

And I'm scared to death ...
scared to breathe
for fear they'll hear me
and know I'm trapped inside;
for fear they'll sense
or smell my presence
-- or my fear!

I'd have never guessed
... that
this world be my fate --
and I'm glad
I didn't know -- any sooner.

Still,
it's odd how things turn out --
Not the way we imagine them,
at all!

I often imagined
getting cancer
or having a heart attack!
Even being run over
by a speeding Mustang or Camaro
......... driven
by some sex-crazed teenager
high on drugs or alcohol ...

But werewolves?
Now, really!


...hope this brings a chuckle or two...

Ok...you got a chuckle but I also got a chill...we have a real coyote problem where I live and they have been literally in my back yard howling for the past three nights now!!
Starting at 10pm until midnight or so I will be hearing them and thinking of your poem!!
Keep up the good work...you do make us all smile.

My sister has trouble with skunks and wild havelinas (boars) in Tucson, AZ. She said that skunks snort right before they spray. I had never heard that little tidbit before.
