I forgot a couple of sites - www.sierratradingpost.com has some good prices on botton-front p.j.'s, gowns, and shirts.

If you're looking for a specific item (either brand name of generic, i.e. "purple sweater"), you can go to www.froogle.com and they will provide a list of webistes which have the items and their prices. They obviously don't have every website on the internet but theydo have a good amount. This has saved me a lot of money and time in the past.

Healing music and tapes - though not specifically designed for 'healing', a group called Wings of Song has some very relaxing and inspiring music which I find helpful. I used one of their tapes - a meditation and song combinaton called "Opening the Heart" - during childbirth and it definitely helped me relax. You can google them and find a number of sites which have the group's music, or you might find it at the library.

Speaking of libraries, I recently found out that my local library will request books from other libraries if it doesn't have them. It's a lot cheaper than buying them myself!

Hi Kerry - have you heard of the Transition Gown from the "assistwear" website? I'm scheduled to have bilateral mastectomy/tram flap reconstruction surgery on May 3rd. I met with my plastic surgeon yesterday and she said I will have at least 4 drains, possibly 6. This gown sounds like something that might come in really handy but I haven't read any posts about it.
    Thanks,
    Liz

Liz - I unfortunately haven't heard of it. Four-six drains sounds like a lot! I think anything that could help you keep track of it would be great. Probably not a lot of people have tried this because I think that most people haven't had so many drains. How much is it? I'll check out the site myself...Kery

Kerry - thanks for your reply. The gown is kind of expensive ($60.00 which includes the shipping) but since I'm pretty squeemish when it comes to medical things, I figure I should probably do whatever I can to help me manage all of this. I tend to get light headed when it comes to things like stitches and tubes coming out of your body ......My neighbor, who voluntarily had a tummy tuck a few years ago and works in the medical field, is going to be around for a few days when I get home from the hospital to help me manage before she goes on vacation and then my husband, bless his heart, told me he'll take over from there! I've read some stories of women having their drains get caught on things and I really rather not take that chance so I may order the gown and then I can let other people know if it turns out to be something that seems worthwhile.

just wanted to let any interested ladies know, after thinking about it for a while and discussing it with my neighbor, I decided to order the gown. I called and spoke to the lady who makes them and had a wonderful consersation with her. It probably lasted about 30 minutes. We had a lot in common, most specifically the type of surgery (bilateral mast/tram flap recon) and she had lots of good information to share with me. She also has some, in my opinion, really helpful tips on her website.
My gown arrived yesterday and I'm thinking I'm going to be happy I have it. The fun part is, I asked if she might possibly have anything in purple (my favorite, relaxing, comforting color) and she just so happened to have the size I need in purple! I figure it's a sign!!
