how about drinking?

Lin, you are responding to a message from 2006 from Jaybird. She doesn't post here anymore, but I do keep in touch with her.
Wigging, welcome aboard. Pull up a bar stool, tell us a little about yourself, and we can have one of our sext Tenders bring you your favorite libation! What will ya have!
NM, haven't seen you in a few days, hope you're ok.
-
Thanks for the welcome. I’m 45, diagnosed in October and having BMX with hopeful immediate recon on Friday but know that might not actually happen. Of course I don’t know about future treatments yet.
I have 3 daughters ages 12 to 17, 3 cats and a husband who has also been drinking a lot more this past month! I work part time and have no sick leave which complicates the whole time off work thing
I’m usually a wine kinda girl but I’m telling you the wine just couldn’t cut it during some of the past few weeks! Thanksgiving, family pictures to make sure I have a photo with each daughter...yeah, vodka was the rx for those days!
Currently avoiding any libations this week in prep for surgery but in a few weeks I hope to raise a nice glass of Cabernet with you all!
Thanks again for letting me crash!

Welcome Wigging - though not how we all want to 'meet', you have found a wonderful haven for support, humour and friendship. I saw my MO last week after 5 weeks of being in Australia, I told him I had beers everyday for 5 weeks and he said 'good for you" I took it as an affirmation that all is well
Cheers! Janky

Wigging- welcome to the thread, and we will be in your pocket on Friday with the surgery. You can do this. We can always find something to laugh about here.
Did you ladies see this? On the news tonight.

Jazzy - there are several threads on BCO that address this issue. In my opinion, while it can be a possible complication, the incidences not every day. My recommendation would be to choose a PS that has lots of experience and discuss this with him/her before surgery. I have had Allergan 410 anatomical cohesive gel implants since 2011 with no problems. It was my understanding from the original Allergan trial that implants are not forever and would likely need to be changed out after 10 years.

Hey Goldie!
I DO read but can't keep up with this page as I work, and mother, and clean, and heal and everything else. lol.
Yes I still drink - carbs/sugar/cancer be damned. It's my only pleasure now since I have no sex drive, no feeling in my boobs, no real hair yet after chemo, one boob expanded, one boob deflated and not to be expanded until further notice. May do TUG flap..... so I drink. I wish I could try all the yummy looking drinks here but, alas, I am a purist and only like my French or Spanish reds or Scotch.
And I won't even go into my fender bender that resulted in my car being deemed 'totaled' nor my wallet being stolen last week.
So, I drink. After 2 BC's and a less-than-easy life I drink.

Jaybird, you DO need a drink!

Good Morning, Loungettes!Happy Twofer Tuesday!Waking up to 2.5 inches of new snow, heavy and wet, and probably going to change over to rain in a bit. Very pretty to look at but very hard to clear and not the kind of stuff I care to drive in. Still, it could be a lot worse, and it's a light visit day, so I can start a bit later than usual.Yesterday turned into a long day, so I don't need a full 8 hours today, which is nice. There was an interesting meeting at work yesterday ayem, lots of talk about workloads and expectations that are too high to maintain over the long term. Of course, it was the same conversation that's been had at similar meetings in the past, a lot of it stuff that I'd been saying before I went Per Diem, with pretty much the same answers.I'm pretty proud of myself, I sat there and did not say one word. If I had I would have said something snide and unhelpful and probably caused all sorts of ruckus. The only difference in this go-round was that a social worker and a chaplain spoke up with their observations about how the nurses are being overworked, the turnover rate, and the effect on patient care. So maybe something will change this time, I don't know. Sadie says Woof to everyone!
Goldie--Going for a walk in the cold really isn't so bad if you are dressed properly. As long as I can keep my feet and ears warm I do pretty well. My Mom has a long history of going shopping after holidays for the next year's holiday celebration. She would buy chocolate Easter Bunnies after Easter and store them in the freezer until the next year. Cranberry sauce and bottles of sparkling cider after Thanksgiving and/or Christmas. Conversation hearts and Valentine Cards after Valentine's day. And lots and lots of wrapping paper, bows, tags, tape after Christmas. Wow, you've been slaving away in the kitchen, and not even a "thank you"? So not right. Don't blame you for not doing it again!
Muddling--I'm with you, I was brought up being taught that when I was invited to a meal I helped clean up after. When staying with someone I helped clean up after every meal, expected to cook at least one meal, AND take the host/hostess out for a meal during the visit. I would never expect someone to do it all just because I was visiting.
Cammy--Any time with Sadie is a good time for me. Love hanging out with her.Glad you got a break from the snow.
Goldie--with a sink full of hot soapy water I would have washed my dish, and any others within reach, and probably gone looking for more! I guess kids are raised differently nowadays.
WOW!That is a great DOTD!Thanks, Goldie!
Cammy--Smonday kicks in around noontime Sunday for me!
Janky--I'm not sure "enjoying" is the best description for my feelings toward the snow, but it sure describes Sadie's reaction! She loves playing in the white stuff. Have a fun Grey Cup party!
Jazzy--glad you are feeling better. Hope the massage helped clean out all the crud.
Goldie--Not even a "thank you" when they left? Good heavens. What has happened to good manners?
Chi--Good idea to keep an overnight bag in the cars, especially in the winter. I hope bob stayed in town overnight. Don't you hate having a great dream interrupted?Sounds like you have lots of options now to help with sleep and neuropathies, that has got to be a good thing. The kitties must make for a fun alarm clock. I know Sadie can be a very effective alarm clock!
Goldie--YUM!
Pants, Jock--I need some Sex on a Snowbank?Which one of you is going to supply??????
Illi--Hope the treatment goes smoothly.
LomLin--I don't recall seeing you in the Lounge before--Welcome! Or Welcome back if I'm behind the times and you've been here a while!
Chi--good info about alcohol and bc, thanks! Power outages are not fun, are they? But of course the power comes back on just after reporting the outage. Be careful out there, glad you are not walking to the train.
Wigging--Welcome to the Lounge! Hugs. I can understand the drinking over the last month, it's a very rough time to live through.
Jazzy--wow, cancer associated with breast implants.Scary thought.
Minus--I never realized that breast implants had a life expectancy, although it makes sense. Most man-made objects do wear after a while.
Jaybird--oh my goodness, so much going wrong! No wonder you drink! And I hope you enjoy it totally when you do!
-
Good Morning, Loungettes! Happy Hump Day!
-
Wigging, are you all set for your surgery? Gals here can give some great advice on things you might need and things to prepare for. I did not have a mx, so no recon. Want some Vodka, also known around here as Wodka, in your IV?
Janky, YAY for the ok on brewski's!
Jaybird, glad to know you are hiding somewhere in the lounge! And yes, you have a lot on your plate, I'm sorry about that, but know you are a strong woman. Altho, I'm certain it wares on you.
NM, you've been saying that stuff at work for a LONG time! Ha ha, good for you keeping your mouth shut, altho I'm sure it was tough! The other thing that bugs me about being helped when you are a guest, don't ask if there is anything you can do, just jump in and freaking DO IT!
Lots of fruit servings in that Hump Day Punch.

Mornin' Ladies,
Welcome Wigging and we'll all be with u Friday so as soon as u come back let us know how ur feeling and doing. OK stay away from drinks this week but after forgetaboutit. I was brought up on red wine as was my dad with no can cer and he lived to be 96 so who knows.
Welcome too LomLin I think I saw u live in Lombard, I grew up in Villa Park, then had a condo on Jackson for many years so I know pretty much ur area, Sandy is in Chicago and now I live in West Chicago. So we're the closest.
Kim we had loads of snow here, the schools were closed on Monday and I was so happy to have Joey home and I slept all day and all night, didn't see him til Tues morning thinking it was still Monday. Oh Joey had to shovel out an area for our dog, haha the snow covered her.
Lori I still can't understand how anyone could not say TY or help. When we went to Dan Saturday, my cousin, Joanne< and I were apologizing for not being able to help, no one expected us to, but we actually felt bad cuz we always did wherever we went. Now neither one of us can but we hugged like crazy just to thank everyone for pitching in. But we did bring food, not that they needed anymore for sure. We were all brought up to help, I don't get it.
Sandy did u get all the snow we did, or more ice. U have to be careful about walking from now on really one fall can do so much, thankfully so far all my falls have just caused bruises but look at Les she fell once and broke her nose. Now we can LOL about it, but she tripped, I fall just cuz I loose my balance for no reason as my kids say just for the fun of it.
Jazzy u must be busy now, I hope u manage to get some play time.
DARA, DARA, DARA---I'm trying again hope everything is all right.I do know Leslie talked to her not to long ago since they have had the same thing wro ng, just in different places, but that was last week, I think. I'm glad she has Dara, cuz it's always good to talk to someone who went thru the same thing and is doing good.
Janky hope ur doing well and imbibement is good. <I don't think that's a word> but that's all right, I tend to make up my own. BTW does anyone use dicktionary <changed the spelling on that one too>I mean kids don''t, it's always google now, why am I talking about something so stupid. Oh well.
LUBS U ALL

Happy hump day! I so enjoy being part of your group, love, laughter, encouragement, support, different perspectives - you offer it all! From Canada I send my best and a huge welcome to the newbies, sucks that you are here, but you have found 'the place to be'! Cheers! janice

Cami, dunno why I thought you lived in Glen Ellyn. West Chicago is near Aurora, right? Next time I play Fox Valley Folk Festival I'll let you know. Meanwhile, if there's a Holiday Hoot this year on WDCB (90.9FM) and I'm on the schedule, I will definitely post it here. (They're online as well). It would be a Tues. night bet. 7-10pm.
We got about 3" of snow, with some icing underneath--though we salted in stages and there are a few clear paths to walk, especially in & around the Loop. Nevertheless, I've put my Ventra (CTA) card in mothballs for awhile and will either drive, take a rideshare or a taxi for the rest of the Bar Show run. Last night was tech rehearsal, and half the mics didn't work (and the mic chart--who gets which mic when and from whom--was pretty screwed up). I will have some very tightly-scheduled costume changes--and for one number, maybe only one minute to get the mic from one cast member, put it on and be ready for my entrance. I had to understudy a small part yesterday--and it was in a scene where I'm normally just a backup singer-(semi)dancer w/o a mic. Unfortunately, the person whose part I understudied is supposed to say her lines, rush offstage, cross the stage in back and then hand over the mic to someone in the next scene. She had to run onstage during the number (fortunately, I'm in back, obscured by the real dancers) and I did the handoff silently. Tonight is dress rehearsal--with costumes, makeup, wigs & the band. In order to keep the stair-climbing to a minimum (dressing room is on 3rd floor, makeup/wig/green room is below the stage), I am going to have to consult the revised mic plot and the running order to decide where to strategically plant which pieces of costume. Oy. At least my laryngitis seems to have turned a corner. (Thank you, prednisone).
DOTD--water, water everywhere....
-
Cami, how nice that Wacko called your DD, I hope it helped her out some. Is she still with Zac? As for you helping, there are exceptions, people that I would not even consider helping and would be upset if they even tried!
Janky, we love having new loungettes joining us in our lounge. Unfortunatley alot don't stick around for long. They pop in and then don't come back. But that's ok. We do try to keep things on the lighter side, but most definately here when someone needs some support, or help out of the wabbit hole.Sandy, good luck running around for your performance.
Last rant on my TG visitors. I also gave them 3 jars of my canning goodies, a quart of spaghetti sauce, jar of salsa and a jar of beans. And guess what...........NO THANK YOU FOR THOSE EITHER!
DOTD-Humpday Cocktail (Never even heard of most of this stuff!

I just have to say that this is my favorite thread on the whole site!! Surgery tomorrow and I’m doing ok. Will have a virtual vodka with you all tonight (before midnight, of course)...since go time is 5:30am! I feel as ready as I can be.
-
Oooops, I thought it was Wednesday! Hence the Humpday cocktail.
Wigging, we are wif ya goilie. Please check in as soon as you feel up to it. We are here to help you through this! You will want things with pockets to hold your drains, and might need to sleep in a recliner. Hopefully you have lots of help at home. Put things at arms reach so you don't have to stretch too far down or up. Sending the Tenders out to get you some wodka for de IV.

Goldie- It is never a good feeling to make an effort to have someone in for a meal, a holiday, a stay over or anything else and feel it is unappreciated. I have found there is a spectrum in life with people who are either ungrateful or entitled, or profoundly appreciative and a combo in between. A lot of people just go through life expecting from others, never learning to say a thank you. In the science and technology world I have always worked in, people can have very poor social skills and have more than enough stories about rude people at parties or other gatherings.
But if someone comes to my home and is not gracious or unappreciative, I label them as a bad visitor and don't invite them back. Want to come visit? Will meet you somewhere for dinner. I have lots of those people in my life, friends and family too. Sorry you came away not feeling great about the visit sister.
Willow- thinking off you with your surgery and in your pocket. Check in and let us know how you are doing on the other side of it. We have all been there on some level and then some.
Cold has abated but still tired and working deadlines. I made the executive decision to work from home this morning, will go in this afternoon for some meetings. I have to monitor a data shut down tomorrow night for four hours. It is hard to be me right now....
-
Good Morning, Loungettes!Happy Thirsty Thursday! Sadie and I had a lovely sleep in this ayem. She's currently out rooting around in the snow looking for who-knows-what. But her tail is waving gently and she seems pretty happy.I think she's getting her snout as cold as possible to stick it in my neck or under my arm when she comes in and make me jump and squeal. She just LOVES to do that!Another interesting day at work. A nurse is going out on worker's comp leave for 8 weeks due to stress and overwork. She plans to go per diem when she comes back. She's in the same boat I was in a couple of years ago and going down a similar road. We're going to get together next week and talk about what it's like as a per diem and what we'd like to see changed and see if we can find a way to make the change happen. Funny thing is, she is a LOT younger than I am, and struggling to keep up with the hours of work needed to do the job. Makes me feel a little less old and worn out.
Goldie--it was hard keeping my mouth shut, but it was worth it. Listening to other people say the same things I have been saying for ages an interesting experience. I hear you about the jumping in and doing when you are a guest. As my Mom used to say, you don't need to know where anything goes to wash dishes or strip the sheets off your bed and put them in the washing machine and turn it on, andyou get bonus points for finding the second set of sheets and making up the bed with them!
Cammy--LOL at Joey shoveling out an area for the dog! One of the things we have to do when we are owned by small doggos. When you reach a certain point in life, or are going through certain live experiences, not helping when visiting is understandable and accepted. But most of the time, it's just good manners! As to using a dictionary, I have a few dictionaries bookmarked on my computer, and frequently use the one built into the computer! I can remember sitting in class as a school girl and being taught how to use the dictionary, and practicing using the dictionary, even. I wonder if that is taught anymore?
Janky--glad you found us, glad to have you with us!
Chi--what complicated mental picture I have of multiple mics being passed around and all sorts of running back and forth backstage! I hope it all works out.And very glad the prednisone is working.
Goldie--not even a TY for the canned goodies? How rude!Just plain rude! I had to look up demerara sugar, and discovered that there are a whole range of sugars out there that I never heard of! Talk about learning something new every day! And Thanks for the DOTD, it looks really wonderful.Maybe a good excuse to go looking for some exotic sugars for my pantry???
Wigging--I'll join you for the pre-midnight drink, and be in your pocket tomorrow ayem. We'll keep an eye on everything for you!
Jazzy--good for you for working from home this ayem. It must be hard to have long hours like that, but I imagine it has to happen from time to time. As long as there is an end to it. There is an end in sight, right?
-
NM- yes, this big push right now will be done before Xmas. I will have some space in my schedule to pick up some other work with other clients in the new year, and focusing on that. Too much "other duties as assigned" BS going on. I am not a FTE there, so they can find someone else for that. Something happened yesterday afternoon that made me say "stay home and go on site when you need to". The guy that supposedly manages my work is never around (he has his own deadlines). Managing the boundaries. I know you do it to where you are as well!
-
They revised the mic plot so I get my second mic early enough to get wigged, costumed and up to the offstage mic in time to supplement vocals on an otherwise full-ensemble number (can't have "Angela Merkel" visible in a song about Chicago politics). Speaking of which, it's eerie that the costume (which I threw together last year to play her--red short jacket fastened all the way up to the collarbone, black pants) is exactly what she wore a couple months ago when she announced her impending retirement!
But shortly after I got home, the aches and pains set in: since this was the first time we had to do costume changes in real time, there was an insane amount of stair-climbing w/in less than 2 hrs. I woke up hobbling and creaking: and for the first time in 2 weeks, I had to take painkillers (Arthritis Formula Tylenol and Celebrex). Sitting here with my heating pad, alternating between lower back and groin muscles. We open for real tonight.
Yesterday I drove and emerged to find my car covered in snow (thanks, "lake effect"). Streets were slick by this morning, and we're supposed to get freezing rain by the time the show lets out tonight, so it's back to rideshares (or hitching with a cast member). Besides, we have a reception at the Standard Club in our honor afterward, so it'll be easy to hail (or have the doorman hail) a cab home. On the fence about whether to stay over at the Hilton tomorrow & Sat. night--we have a party of 10 coming tomorrow, and going next door for tapas afterward, and Bob will have driven and paid through the nose to park at the Hilton anyway. Makes more sense to drive home if we can so I can do cat-feeding duties for Sat. (Sun. Gordy can pop by, or I can just leave full kibble bowls out for free-feeding).
Yesterday's DsOTD: sweet tea at Buddy Guy's, along with a cup of gumbo before dress rehearsal; Mumm's Napa Deveaux Ranch when I got home (couldn't finish a glass of it--had maybe 2-3 oz.). Tonight, whatever they're pouring at the Standard Club.

Mornin' ladies,
Muddling today is the day. we're virtually holding hands for u and sending energy and prayers, and as was said when ur up to it let us know how it all went an how u feel.
Sorry Sandy I was smiling at first thinking of all the running around for rehearsal, but now u said there is another mike??? Wow lots of work for u tho no wonder ur hurting, I hope u feel well enough to do ur best, but u are a true performer, and I know u'll be another one tonight---Breal a Leg Sandy.
Jazzy u must have felt lousy this week for u to stay home so long, cuz u never do. I know u want to go in but please don't rush it at all, this is a tough thing to get over. So please take care of urself.
Hold n Lori, u even gave ur food to them and no TY's. What were u thinking??? How can anyone not be thankful, I still don't get it. Lori it never seems to matter how u feel, cuz u never complain, but u always treat anyone who visits with such kindness and comfort, Iknow I keep saying this but I still dont get it. How hard is it to thank u and hug it out. Jeez
Kim I think back when u were working ur arse off like crazy and how happy I am now for u and sadie---but I still feel u should be in charge of so much. Ur experience and compassion for everyone is enough to make u on top. Damn having a nurse like u around would have to make people feel comfort.
DARA, boy is she stubborn now.
Janky are u doing all right???
I'm having a hard time truly catching up I'm still Twirly. Has anyone heard from SusyQ, I think of her all the time. And prayers for everyone.
LUBS U ALL

Good Morning, Loungettes!Happy TGIF day! Sunny this ayem, and Sadie and I had a good long sleep, went to bed early and slept really well and feeling full of energy this ayem. Sadie is outside right not chasing a squirrel along the fence line and barking up a storm at it. She'll be in for a nap in a while. I did find out yesterday that
Jazzy--Managing the boundaries is getting to be a lot like housework, always needing to be done, never stays done very long! I have to admit it was worth it to see the expressions on the Clinical Managers' faces when I reminded them that I am not working for them next week, and that they had this info for MONTHS! They had to go back and totally rework a plan they had set up, and today they are finding out that they will need to do another total redo of next week, and the 7 weeks after that as one of the nurses goes out on leave. I'm planning to take this opportunity to restate (in an e-mail) my boundaries when I go back week after next. And I'm going to try very hard to get the nurse that is going out on leaveand plans to come back Per Diem and not full time to do the same.
Chi--YIKES! I hope the aches and pains subside before the show. Stair climbing can do a job on the ol' bod. Break a leg!
Cammy--thank you so much for the kind words!
Muddling--We're all in your pocket supervising all that is going on, you rest easy, poop in when you feel up to it.
Blackberry Ombre Sparkler
Ingredients
- 1 cup fresh blackberries
- 1 cup sugar
- 1 cup water
- 4 sprigs fresh rosemary
- 1 bottle champagne
Instructions
- In a small saucepan, combine blackberries, sugar, and water. Bring to a boil on high heat, and then reduce to a simmer and let cook for approximately 15-17 minutes. The blackberries will become soft and bright in color and a pinkish purple syrup will form. Making sure it cooks down enough is essential to keeping the ombre effect. Take off of the heat and drain the blackberries, keeping the syrup in a separate bowl. Set both aside and allow to cool.
- Once blackberries and simple syrup are cooled, spoon about 4 tablespoons of syrup into the bottom of each champagne flute (this recipe makes 4 drinks)
- Top with champagne.
- Garnish with fresh blackberries or the cooked blackberries, and a sprig of rosemary.
- Cheers!
-
Jazzy, I like the idea of just meeting somewhere. Not sure when they will be back, they are moving to Reno. Sorry about work, but you will get thru.
NM, your lunch date with the nurse taking a break should prove to be interesting and perhaps the office will open it's eyes. Glad to hear that people are taking notice. Every time I see that demerara sugar, at first glance it looks like diarhea sugar!!!
Cami, I don't think they were unappreciative, just no manners to say a simple thank you. I have not heard from Sue, I should give her a call or at least a text.
DOTD-RUDE COSMOPOLITAN
1 OZ. Patron Reposado (orange seal) 100% Agave Tequila
1 OZ. Triple Sec
1.5 OZ Cranberry Juice
1/2 OZ. Freshly squeeze lime juice
2 dash of Orange bitters -
a screw up I can't get this off and no recipe, just guess.
-
NM, first of all, thanks for the swim. Glad it was in the indoor heated pewl! Did you hit something and delete part of your post? Last sentence in the first paragraph. So glad to hear you standing your grounds!
-
Morning all - yayyy it is Friday, even though retired there is still something about Friday
goldie - Rude Cosmo looks darn yummy, must try during holidays!!
cami -- I am pretty fine, just getting ready for a weekend in the mountains, Banff Kanaskis, with my daughter and grandson, should be a great time. It is her company Christmas party, so I am there to play with my grandson - so excited!
Chi - winter perfomances often mean coming out to snow covered vehicles - arghh! Stay warm!
NM - you sound cheeky about messing up work plans next week - if only people would pay attention!
Jazzy - Feel better fast!
Hugs and laughter, have a great weekend all... Cheers! janky
-
Good morning- well I went to the eye doc this morning, and was told I had some signs of developing cataracts last year and things are getting worse (have seen some changes to vision in left eye and also night vision). So surgery for me next spring. She said it will be important to do in the next year and going to try to get the first one done in March if I can, the other will follow 3 weeks later. Surgery consult in Feb now scheduled.
I find these days I don't react so much to this kind of news, just say "okay what do we need to do?" Cancer taught me that things that can be treated and you find early are the best news you can possibly get.
Wrapping this around my head today with my eyes dilated. Cateracts remind me I am officially old now
-
Compared to your lumpectomy, cataract surgery is a walk in the park. Actually, I found it even easier than having a wisdom tooth pulled.
Cami, we have a cast of 50, with 21 body-mics with transmitters, two handheld wireless for people playing TV reporters, and 2 offstage on stands for those of us singing who can't be onstage because we're in character for another scene. There were some mic glitches last night, but hopefully they'll get ironed out by tonight. Could have driven yesterday--the freezing rain never materialized--but between ice falling from downtown buildings and the cocktail reception post-show, I'm glad I took Lyft & taxi. Lyft tonight--Bob is driving and parking at the Hilton for the show & dinner after, and if I drive us home he can drink freely (were I to drive down, not only would there be an extra parking fee but he wouldn't be able to indulge). Tomorrow night we're staying over, since it's going to rain cats & dogs and I have a noon call for Sunday's matinee. I will drive and get the parking spot, he'll drive home from work and cab it down. We'll go home together Sunday.
-
ChiSandy- good to hear friend. Others have told me the same. Getting on top of this early.
