how about drinking?

Here in Florida it is hot with everyday off and on rain, but it is normal Florida weather I guess. I am trying to eat more healthier and get some walking in everyday, it is hard because I love to eat and I drink very rarely at home, but every time I go to a restaurant and they have pictures of their drinks, I always have to have them. Its almost like a picture menu of NM's DOTD. I did just notice that it is NM's DOTD instead of Bunty's.
I work in an office so the exercise is needed and my husband is retired and does a lot of the housework and cooking. He also is watching grandkids a lot. My son Andy has a blended family of 8 kids, my daughter Amanda has 2 and my youngest son Chris is not married and has no children. Christopher lives with us. He has Asperger's so he is a little different, but really sweet. He went to school and got certified for computer stuff - 3 separate certificates. There is not a lot of jobs for that here, there would be in bigger city, but I don't think he would go. He is working at Walmart though, and is fine.
The kids all come over quite often so we kind of go crazy till they leave. I hate to complain, because I know I am lucky to be close to my grandchildren.
Well, this is enough rambling about me. I do love to hear about you all, and feel I am sitting around a table with you drinking coffee...or DOTD.

Ladies- it has been a crazy week but wanted to let you know the biopsy was negative for cancer! Just got the news from the radiologist!
I have also been in the middle of a 12 plus hour SWAT situation in my neighborhood since late yesterday. It is finally over and everyone is safe (except the person they were after) and more on this soon. Seriously, can't make this chit up, as Cami would say.
Will be back soon. I will remember this week for a LONG LONG time.......
-
Wow Jazzy! That is scary to have right in your neighborhood. Glad that no one got hurt, the nosy part of me can't wait to hear the story.
Very happy that your biopsy was negative for cancer.
-
Jazzy - wonderful news about the negative biopsy. HOORAY!!!

Jazzy,

Joining in a group w00t (I think that's how the millennials spell it) for you, Jazzy! Both for the biopsy and the end of the siege.
Am in NYC right now for this timeshare mini-vacation—traveling is a total PITA for me right now, but Bob had his heart set on this trip. What they put me in was an EXOS brace—starts off neoprene & soft plastic, is activated by heat, and then is molded to fit before it cools and hardens. Because of the scaphoid fracture fixation, the brace has a thumb “spica" to restrict the ROM of the CMC joint. Problem is that I have unusually short fingers relative to a normal-size palm. So my thumb can't reach across the rigid divide to touch my forefinger—essentially, my L hand lacks an opposable thumb and is therefore darn near useless. Chimps and raccoons have more manual dexterity than I do.Typing is a chore—the rigid brace brushes all the wrong keys, which is bad enough on a computer but infuriating on an iPad keyboard. (That stupid emoji shortcut key is driving me crazy). Bob had to open my pretzels & peanuts on the plane. I need my teeth to open ziplocks.
I still can’t dress myself. It takes me 15 minutes to don a front-close bra—and I can’t close all the hooks because I can’t really grasp anything with just 4 fingers well enough. (And since I’m not supposed to lift anything heavier than 1-2 lbs., pulling anything hard enough is probably too much traction). Yesterday I got and popped two blisters on my L boob from the friction of the center hooks I couldn’t close. They said I can take the thing off to shower and immediately put on a bra afterward, but my wrist is too stiff for me to reach around and hook a normal bra, even with two extenders. Tried yesterday and saw stars. And if I try to hold my wrist in a way I can type decently, the pain is awful. Using only my right hand to type is killing my shoulder & neck. Can’t even safely position myself on the bad.
I will have to go back to the clinic Monday and have them re-mold the brace to give me an opposable thumb. All the YouTube videos of OTs applying thumb spica casts for scaphoid fractures have the patients give the “OK” sign before the plaster hardens. I will demand that they do the same with this brace (EXOS braces can be reheated & remolded). I don’t want a cast—I would have to carry plastic bags and rubber bands in case I get caught in the rain, and shower with a giant cast-condom. At least I can loosen and tighten the brace, remove it to shower, and let it air dry if it gets wet. I would go to the HSS’ walk-in clinic to remold it while I’m here but they don’t have my X-rays (and my surgeon probably wouldn’t transmit them).
DsOTD: Cruzet Brut on the plane, Veuve Cliquot and an okay Sonoma Pinot Noir at dinner. Needed them all

Happy dance for Jazzy YYYAAAYYY

Hey Ladies,
Oh Jazzy just what we wanted to hear and now it's heard, what a great feeling to get those results and it's done. We all know how u feel, but this is the good part---no cancer---beautiful words.
Sandy why are u even typing it must be misery and u still type better than I do. U must have tiny little hands, but ur a trooper traveling and not letting anything stop u. i bet Bob is happy about that too.....
I just erased a whole paragraphWTF and I have 2 HUGE hands working at one time. When I was little the nuns would have us make turkeys tracing our hands <remember> well she had me trace another girls hand for my turkey, cuz she must have thought i had freakishly huge hands even then. Yea like everyone else's were so life like they belonged in the art museum, and mine was looking like a huge hand and nothing else. well it was much easier to stay in the lines when I colored it, not theirs. Those days no one thought about being sensitive with a child, I don't think that was even a word yet, at least for treating kids. Nothing older people said didn't really bother anyone then, but now it would be considered like verbal child abuse. Those days living n an Italian neighborhood when walking around u could hear parents yelling Im going to break ur legs, then see how far u'll get" Or "if u dont leave now I'm going to break ur neck" or "if u lie to me u won't have any teeth left" and so on, again now police would be called and agencies would get involved In actually no one had necks, legs broken and everyone had their own teeth. But everyone did listen, I'm blabbering cuz of the time. OK I'm done saying nothing
I don't have to be at the hospital til about 1PM and Ill should get done by 4-5 and thanks Kim, I called today about the wheelchair thing and she said she'd put it with my paperwork and someone will take me to the next place, or I wouldn't know what to do===so plans are made.

Good Morning, Loungettes!Happy Thirsty Thursday! Turning out to be a gorgeous day here. Cool enough for a light sweater for the first hour or so after I got up, but warming up nicely now. Warm enough that Silly Sadie is sleeping on the ottoman stretched out rather than in the recliner curled up. Ah, summer!
Misty--It must be nice to be able to spend time with the grandchildren! Crazy, but fun. Sounds like your life is pretty busy. And we all do some rambling about ourselves and our lives, that's how we get to know each other!
Jazzzy--HOORAY!!!!!!!!!!!The SWAT situation must have been scary. Glad it turned out well.
Chi--No opposable thumb makes for a very difficult situation. I do hope they can adjust the cast so you can get some level of functionality. I ran across this video from an OT, how to put on a bra using one hand, maybe you can use this method?
Cammy--Child raising sure has changed since we were children. Any attempt to discipline a child is considered abuse these days. Not sure it's helping anyone, but there it is. Glad you've got help set up at the hospital for the tests. The people who work there doing that kind of thing appreciate having the job to do!

NM, not sure which couple you might be talking about, for buying our business. However, it is our accountant and her BF who is working with us right now, packing orders, taking phone calls, etc. Funny about Sadie not liking the fog.
Cami, hoping your tests all come out good. Glad to know that Sox was not suffering. Where are you going for over a week? Jodie's? Yes, I am getting zucchini, yellow squash and maters out of the garden right now. My mom is doing ok, but still has her moments. She doesn't usually call anyone, we call her.
Jazzy, still thinking of you and all you are going thru now as well. We have had lots of rain. Yay yay yay, doing that Happy Dance for you!!!!!! Can't wait to hear about the swat issue.
Misty, I too have a grandson, 13, that has Asperger's, but is very smart.
Home from Phoenix, spent a few days down there for DH's birthday. Had a nice time. DH got lots of free birthday things from different restaraunts. Went to the movies, saw Skyscraper in 3D, was good. And always good to be home. And dang, it's hot down there!

Hi folks- I am busy working on an RFP with one of my partnering firms today but wanted to pop in and say hi and also to say thank you for all your good wishes and being in my pocket on my biopsy results this week. Happy girl to be able to put this behind me. The only thing I am trying to get figured out is my scheduled visit with the BS today. She had this planned I think to give me the results (and perhaps to begin the discussion about possible treatment needed). I called first thing today to ask if I needed to come now and no word back now close to 5 hours later. She may be in surgery this morning. Well, if I don't hear anything by 2-ish, I will plan to go over in case she still needs to finish anything up on my annual visit. A lot of our conversation last week was around needing the biopsy. Trying to save myself a trip across town and a $50 co-pay. My apt is 3 hours still.....
Okay, so you want the story about the crazy SWAT thing here the night before last. There was a helicopter circling our neighborhood late on Tuesday afternoon. I went out front and saw to the north, my street was blocked off and several cop cars with men walking around house to house. Manhunt for sure, and several of us neighbors were out talking to each other trying to figure out what was happening? Withing a short time, a lot more vehicles and responders coming in. I saw the bomb squad come in and a guy in military gear put on a black mask, and then decided something really bad was going on in the hood. A police officer told us to get in our homes and stay there. EEEK.
Awhile later, I looked out side and there was everything here from the Mobile Crime Lab, to the state special operations van, all kinds of military looking vehicles, tons of guys in SWAT uniforms, a robot to handle bomb devices. My older neighbor to the south was out in the middle of the action and getting interviewed by one of the local news channels. I talked to one of the camera men and he asked if this had ever happened in our hood? Our development is relative young (like 16 or so years old) and pretty safe and quite and said no. But crime is a huge problem here and violent crime is really on the rise.
Turns out there was a man who had killed someone that morning (a boyfriend who killed his girlfriends X-husband) then came over here to his GF's house with some people (sounded like hostage situation) and holed himself up in her home on the street that is the main entrance to our development. I consider this a domestic violence sort of situation that was going really south quickly, but we had one here go really bad about 10 years ago where a man went after his wife at a tech business here and killed 6 people and hurt others. So they got on this fast. I was in and out of the house watching some until about 8 p.m. and then I just told myself I was exhausted (biopsy that morning) and went and crashed and slept like a log.
The next morning I got up and went to the front door and could hear the trucks out front humming. I went out and there were swat guys everywhere sitting on the curb and walking around. I could tell it was over and a police officer came up and asked me if anyone had talked to me. I said not since it started yesterday and he said it was over, they got him between 2-3 in the morning. I had heard an explosion at one point that evening and think they were trying to gas him out. I figured they had killed him, and heard they got him out but he came out shooting so they took him down. The hostages got let go early and the girlfriend (who also has a baby) was not involved in the actual incident. I guess she came over here that afternoon and wanted to get in to talk him down. They sent her away.
Anyways, the officer that morning was just working with the community to be sure people could get out to work. I was working from home and said I was fine, they could use my drive way if they needed to. There were a lot of excess vehicles here and some huge things that had to get moved out. I was in and out a few more times that morning, talked to another camera man (great way to get info without being interviewed) and learned more. I could not believe some of the equipment I saw get pulled out of here. They had everybody and everything here. Like a war zone. Or as a friend told me "you were in the kill zone."
By mid morning, everyone was gone and I went down to try to see some things on the street where it all went down. I heard the house was destroyed and the attached picture (below) show the front of the house that a neighbor took. I have been home the past few days and going out this afternoon so I will check it out myself. Most of our homes here are owned, this one was a rental. I bet the owner of that is not going to be too happy.
I was pretty distracted by this when I got the call yesterday frinom the radiologist with my biopsy results. When she told me the results were negative I said "I am really glad to hear this because our neighborhood was in the middle of a SWAT situation and don't think I can take much more this week". She said OMG! I said OMG is right.
Photos below show the blown out house (bottom) and truck in front of my house the morning (top) afterwards as the teams began their recovery from the 12 plus hour siege (great term Chi).
In the end of all this I am a) glad to still be cancer free and b) glad there was no collateral damage in the hood from what went down here this week. I will remember this week for a long, LONG time!
-
Wow Jazzy, what a couple days! Glad you’re safe 🙂
-
Yikes, Jazzy—you’ve really been through the mill. In the neighborhoods adjacent to mine, we hear helicopters on a weekly basis and police sirens a tad oftener—but that’s because of internecine gang warfare, especially taunting YouTube rap videos. The South & west sides are where the violence hits the innocent distressingly regularly.
Speaking of YouTube videos, Kim—-hahahaha! That one was the first one I watched when I found out I’d be having the surgery. Let me tell you—if your boobs are small enough that you can put one a bra one-handed...you don’t need a bra. Add to that my gut-girth—and it’s impossible to rotate the thing to its intended position. Yesterday I managed to shoehorn into a front-clip underwire, but not w/o several infuriating false starts—largely occasioned by not being able to clearly see where where to insert one part of the clasp into the other. Today, I put on my ThirdLove padded underwire myself—took two extenders and I wrestled it over my head and shoved the girls in. Of course, that made the straps gape at the top (and constantly slip) and the band ride up, but I looked ok with a dress on. Came time to reverse the process, but the bra got stuck behind my shoulders and I had to enlist Bob’s help. He couldn’t budge it so we put it back to its functional position so he could unhook it—but he couldn’t see the hooks well enough. (He admits he needs an eye exam but refuses to take the hour off to do it). He finally was able to unhook it by touch alone.
Had a great time tonight—Italian dinner and then walked down to B’way and saw “Come From Away.” Best musical I’ve seen since “Tommy,” actually better. DsOTD: Aperol Spritz before dinner (pretty weak—I think they skipped the prosecco and used only seltzer), Montepulciano with entrees; and at an after-show visit to Junior’s for old times’ sake, a chocolate egg cream. Meh—they make theirs with Fox’s U-Bet, and put it together in the wrong order (even have marks on the glasses for syrup & milk levels). Not at all like I remember from childhood—U-Bet is too sweet and not chocolatey enough these days. I use Hershey’s, and pump it into the center of the milk first (adding syrup first makes it mix prematurely with the milk, so you don’t get that iconic pristine white latte-foam head). But the cherry cheesecake was awesome—sorry, Eli’s, but you’re still second-best

Good Morning, Loungettes!Happy TGIF day! Another beautiful summer day shaping up here. Got a list of errands to run today, wish I could take Sadie but it will be too hot to leave her in the car and not everyplace I'm going allows doggos, so she'll have to settle for supervising the neighborhood.
Goldie--I must have been imagining things, I thought you tried to sell the company last year and it fell through.Glad to hear DH had a good birthday in Phoenix.
Jazzy--WOW.Just WOW.I'd have been terrified. Those pics do look like something from a war zone. They must have thought there was a bomb, or at least a possibility of a bomb? Domestic violence is getting more and more pervasive, and more and more deadly as time goes by.
Chi--I can't believe we found the same video! I've always put my bra on by hooking it in front and then moving it around, never could reach back behind myself to hook it that way, not even as a teenager. I didn't even know that was how it was "supposed" to be done until I was an adult!

Wowsa Jazzy, like you said, I bet the owner is not going to be too happy about his house. The fruits and veggies look yummy.
Sandy, not to make fun of you, but I have to chuckle when you describe the bra issues. Video (not expecting one) would be funny.
NM, we HAVE been trying to sell the business, it's just not going anywhere! And it keeps us tied down and unable to do anything.
Did a little shopping at the Farmers Market. Lori's Farmers Market! Going to do up some sketti sauce this weekend, but will freeze it, as it will be quite a small batch, as you can see. But it's a start! Heading to town a bit later.

Hi friend- my cancer check ups on my imaging and with the BS are DONE! No more cancer visits until 2019. Sounds like I will be having another MRI next summer too, but guess that is just the way it is going to be. I have yearly MO apt in January (now yearly too), but far less stressful than the imaging stuff. No doctors for a few months. Been a month plus with all this, dental work, etc. I am tired of medical visits, more the past month than in a long time. Glad to be healthy and on my way!
Finished my RFP work this morning and refocusing on a few other things. Going to bc yoga class this afternoon and then have some great music things planned for this weekend. There is a sax player by the name of Grace Kelly who I have seen before and playing at the zoo tonight. But bigger than that is jazz legend Dave Grusin this weekend in Santa Fe to see his new documentary and concert. I happen to know the documentary film maker and hoping I may get to meet him. Fingers crossed! I need some fun after this week, right?
Cami- are you through your tests? I hope your tests got done easily and think today you go to spend time with your other DD and family while Leslie and Marty get some out of town time. Where does Joey go during this time? I know school will be starting soon again for many. I think about three weeks over here. Summer goes quickly.
Goldie- that is some pretty nice loot from the garden. Going to make anything special with your harvest?
NM- this place has some serious issues with domestic violence, but it is an increasing problem everywhere with it escalating in to gun violence now too. I was thinking as I came home from my biopsy Tuesday morning, he was coming in to the neighborhood after killing someone and bringing in his hostages. The neighborhood has been extremely quiet the past few days and not seeing people walking around as they usually do. I have not been walking around much either, but was out this am working in the gardens. Seeking some comfort and beauty after this crazy week. I think we all still feel a bit traumatized by this event, but that will pass.
I drove past the house yesterday and they are working to get it boarded up now. I wonder if they will demolish it or repair it, time will tell. I was thinking of the people who lived on each side of the house and how awful for them too, but do believe anyone right in the vicinity of the manhunt were evacuated before they moved in. I think they used some gas bombs to get him out, heard an explosion at one point, but yes, he could have had one in tow too. A murderer on the run with hostages could have had anything. So grateful to be okay.....
Chi- you are having fun over there in NYC. Great time of the year to visit. Broadway, good food, and more. You sound like you are doing well with adjusting to recovery and not letting this get in the way of your good times. Hope the rest of the visit is good.
I hope Bob will go get an eye check up, pretty important. But know doctors are not always ideal about taking care of their own health. I get on my sister all the time about things after watching her push some medical problems out a couple times that turned out to be huge problems for her.
Misty eyes and Ill- thank you for the support this past week!
Okay, got things to do and wishing everyone a good weekend. I am ready to let the good times roll......

Good Morning, Loungettes!Happy Saturday! Another beautiful day shaping up here. Sadie and I got quite a few of the items on our To Do list done yesterday, planning to get more done today. Looking forward to puttering around in the gardens today, too, before tonight's Bean Suppah.
Goldie--Look at that harvest!I'm jealous of the green peppers.I have one pot on the deck, supposed to be green pepper, looks way more like parsley to me! Tastes like parsley, too. Me thinks the plant was labelled incorrectly. It's ok, though, I'll harvest it and use it.
Jazzy--It must feel wonderful to get the appointments down to once a year!Sounds like you have been really busy this week, good for you!You do deserve some fun now. Domestic violence does seem to be more and more common, and more and more violent. There was an incident recentlyhere in Maine of a man who stabbed a woman to death in front of her 11 year old twin sons. The accused man had been released from prison early for good behavior after stabbing his wife to death in front of her daughter.I can imagine how nervous people are in the neighborhood. I can't imagine what it would be like to be thinking about buying or renting a place and finding out something like that had happened there.

Hi folks- I had a great time at the music last night. The friends that were there decided they were going to sit way back and parked myself in another area, said hello to them and made some new friends. I picked the right spot, as the guy next to me kept offering me jello tequila shooters, lol. Now those are my kind of friends!
I cannot remember the last time I had a jello shot.....
-
LOL NM, how could you mistake a parsley plant from a pepper plant? That one had me laffing to my self! And OMG, they let a man out of prison after he commited murder, and in front of a child no less? What is wrong with our system???? The peppers will go in the sketti sauce, and if I have any left over, I will chop and freeze for the next batch. I need to go out and see what else there is in the garden, hoping for a few more maters, as what I have won't make much, which is why I'm freezing the sauce. I did some like that last year, I liked it and much much easier than canning. Going to put some of that squash in some too.
Jazzy, you certainly did pick the right seat. We went to a concert one time in Laughlin. And the guy next to me had got a bucket of beer and offered me one. Dang straight I accepted! As for the "loot", as mentioned in my post, making spaghetti sauce.
BossLady, wussup girlfriend?
Happy Saturday goils!

Good Morning, Loungettes1Happy Sunday Funday! For a day that's supposed to be rainy the sun is shining awfully brightly. That's ok, I 'll take it!Going to veg a bit today, I think. Sadie's napping away in the recliner, so I guess I have to stay here and play on the computer for a while. Mustn't waken the sleeping doggo!
Jazzy--you made some good new friends!
Goldie--I didn't make the mistake, I ordered some seedlings to be delivered at planting time, the one labelled Pepper is this one:
Definitely needs to be watered today.

NM,
I'm enjoying a cool rainy morning while skimming through 4 weeks of posts.
Jazzy, excellent biopsy results!
Cami,
Your tests were done on Thursday and now waiting for excellent results? Have fun on your vaca!
To me, summertime means local sweet corn......I love it!

Good Morning, Loungettes!Happy Monday Monkey Day! The rain has moved in, the humidity is high, the dew point is higher, thank goodness the temps are staying seasonable. Working for the Main office today and tomorrow, the second office on Wednesday this week. Going to be rainy most of that time, but hopefully better when I'm off.Sadie is napping.
Morning, Teka! We have a mantra here, don't try to ketchup, jump in where you are! It can be hard to keep up sometimes. Glad to see you pooping in!

NM ok, ordering seedlings and they sent you the wrong item, makes sense now. Like I said, how could you not know the difference between pepper plant and parsley. I could see if you were a new gardener and didn't have a clue. Odd the growing pattern. Hopefully office 1 won't try to take advantage of you today and tomorrow.
Teka, we can get local corn here, but not yet. We always get lots and freeze it. But I think I'm good with enough left over for this year. We have this gadget that goes on a drill and gets all the kernels off the cobb. https://youtu.be/SMPGBTGGe2s
We are in for a heat wave here. Suppose to to 117 in Phoenix. The house last night was in the 80's, so hard to sleep. And still 80 at 1 am when I got up to use the bathroom. Had been trying to get a hold my mom. The nursing home and all the patients rooms, phones were out for 2 days. My mom thought we didn't know where she was. Skettie sauce turned out nice, but I only got 2 quarts. But that's ok, it's so worth it!

Mornin' Ladies,
Been moving around, like I was going anywhere, maybe about 12 miles, I might have packed for CA--Jeez all the chit I use day to day.
Kind of caught up.
Sandy ur stl having trouble with ur bra--If Bob can't do it find an experienced man who can d it with one hand and he'll teach u. Just hope pain is setting down.
Jazzy ur all over the pace, like flowers and meeting great people. < I bet u thought I was going to say something else>Jazzy all tests are good right???
Lori the table looks great, and that's just for ur sauce??? Already looks good. Ur getting some big heat this week.
NM u should be cooling down, I know we are for this week anyway, only in the 80's, which is cool for how it's been. And now I have a pool.
Well my tests are done and now my dr. wants to see me, I said we usually do this over the phone, she said well not this time. So I told her I was out of town LOL yea 12 miles. Oh I'll see her next week. I think she's going to take something small and making it into something bigger that's all.
I have a little catching up to do with work, so I'd better get busy.
Hi everyone I missed hope all is doing good.

Good morning friends- just a quick poop in and then need to disappear again for a bit. I am behind on a few fronts and lots to catch up on this week.
The weekend of music was just what I needed. The Dave Grusin documentary and performance yesterday was so good, and one of the best things I have seen the Jazz Festival here do. Who is Dave Grusin, you ask? Someone in the background of a lot of music you may know including the sound tracks for everything from The Graduate, the Milagro Bean Field Wars, Tootsie, The Firm, etc. He was the piano guy for Andy Williams and a lot of his work in the film and TV industry began in the 1960s. He and Quincy Jones were early collaborators. So much rich jazz history in the documentary and he came out after to tell us how pleased (and overwhelmed) he was by this film. It was beautifully done (I have friends in Santa Fe who made this film). Then he played some wonderful music for us on the piano and there was a short Q&A on the film. Just a great afternoon. Love going to Santa Fe but it was mobbed there yesterday (peak tourist season) so getting parking was a nightmare....
Cami- yes, all is well on the test front. I actually got a call today on my latest genetics test (my BS is convinced my cancer is genetic), but everything negative there too. It is the latest iteration of genetics testing and done by saliva (vs. blood draw). Once I get a copy of the results in the mail, I will share more on what this test is about since some of you may be interested. I cannot remember the name of it, but something like 83 genes now tied to BC? More follow.
How are things going over with Jodie and FF? I hope you get your results soon, the waiting is awful.
NM- I heard the east coast is getting lots of rain. Please send that over here! Has the kayak gone out yet sister? How are mom and Dick doing? Are you taking that trip to FL soon (I think Sept?)
Chi-hoping the rest of your travels in NYC went well. I think you were going for a long weekend?
Teka- nice to see you here and thank you for the kudos. I had my first sweet corn the weekend before last from the farmers market. The midweek farmers market has started and I plan to go again Wed for some good eat. I cannot wait for the delicious melons too, those may be ready this time as well.
Goldie- it has been so hot here the last week too. Monsoons left us as they have you and we are hoping to see some rain later today. It was 103 when I drove in to ABQ last night at 7 p.m. The batch of sauce sounded good and hope you get more bounty to make more. I love the fresh tomatoes and corn the best this time of the year.
A summer hello to everyone else. Hard to believe August is on the horizon. Kids will be back to school here in a few weeks too!

One of Dave Grusin's best known jazz tunes from the 1980s
-
Another one you might know
-
Lovely Jazzy. Thanks
-
Grusin is one of my favorite jazz pianists & movie/TV composers. Glad you got to enjoy him (and all the other jazz music) this weekend.
We got home late Sat. night. Fri. we had our timeshare sales pitch--but after Bob stood firm about not trading back up, they backed off and gave us our freebies (restaurant & hotel gift certificates and 15% discount card) anyway. Afterwards, we went to Petrossian and had (along with our lunch) Andre Delorme Brut, from the Loire. That night, we took Bob's BFF (and our best man) to Bistro 8-1/2, which was sort of unimpressive. Nice Oregon Pinot Noir (2016 Sharecroppers'), though.
Sat. we walked down to the theater district, picked up our tix to "A Bronx Tale," and ate next door at Hurley's (of "The Late Show With David Letterman" fame). The show was pretty good, but by then we were spoiled by "Come From Away." Still had lots of time to kill after the show, so we hung out on B'way (closed to traffic for the weekend street market, food trucks & all). Just before continuing north, I noticed a food truck with some familiar foliage painted on it--and realized recreational weed is legal in NYC. All they had left were gummies and two bizarre flavors of lollipops--both THC! So I bought a 5-pack of gummies. Bob freaked out and said if it were up to him, he'd discard them before going through security, lest we be outed by the drug-sniffing dogs. I replied no way--the dogs are there to sniff out explosives and the worst that could happen would be that the gummies would be confiscated. Besides, if he insisted, I would just get royally stoned eating at least one before boarding--as the airport is w/in NYC limits. So I put them in my purse, and nothing happened. (No longer in my purse, though, at least not till I get an MMJ permit--no legal recreational weed anywhere in IL).
Then we walked up into Central Park, rode the carousel, and visited the Chess (now "Chess & Checkers") Pavilion, where my late FIL used to play chess and took Bob when he was little. Got to the 7th Circle of Hell (aka Terminal B in LaGuardia) in plenty of time--only to discover that despite our being TSA Pre again, there was nobody manning that podium--so the only concession we got was getting to keep our shoes on. Of course, I lit up the scanner. They asked if I could remove my cast-brace, but I told them I wasn't supposed to and besides, that arm was full of hardware. So they gave up and wanded & swabbed me. We took off just as the thunderstorm started. Had another Cruset sparkling wine (southern France). My watch buzzed at me: almost 12,000 steps, all my activity rings closed. First time ever!
Yesterday was my gig--went well other than a couple of sr. moments on my own lyrics (hadn't expected to do two a cappella songs I hadn't done in two years). and my singing partner farbling as to which song we had to lower in order to accommodate an AM harmonica and which one we could still do in B flat. Those were songs on which I usually play guitar & dulcimer solos. (The latter song ended up way down in my lower register--and my intro on Bb harp while my partner was playing guitar in G was, uh, "interesting." Was able to grab the G harp just in time for the solo).
Today I was able to drive (very gingerly) to Skokie Hospital to get my brace re-molded. I can finally touch thumb & forefinger again, so I can pull up actual jeans, not just elastic-waist Grandma pants. Still having bra woes, though--got two new front-hook ones I could step into, but they give no lift whatsoever. Bob has trouble hooking and unhooking my bra because he needs more reading correction in his progessives. And I get crosseyed trying to find the groove into which to insert the "pin" half of my front-clip underwire bras (though pinching the clip to remove them is easy). Just got a front-snap one, but I suspect it might not be all that supportive. I can use a couple of extenders to be able to step into my normal bras and (finally) turn them around--though the side wires stick me in the armpits.
New problem, though--front incisors (upper & lower) on L side are sensitive, and the hard palate abutting the gum of my slightly loose second incisor is boggy and painful if I forget and chew on it. Been smearing on Sensodyne a few times today (between brushings); have a bottle of Peridex rinse I never opened--will e-mail my dentist and see if he thinks I should come in now instead of at my next cleaning in Sept. After one Zometa I.V. and three Prolia shots, I'm terrified of ONJ.

Good Morning, Loungettes!Happy Twofer Tuesday! Not too bad a day at work yesterday. Lots of mileage, though. So glad for AC in the car, the humidity is horrendous. Fortunately, I'm doing well with the fans in the house just now, haven't needed the AC. But keeping hydrated is taking work. Even Sadie is moving pretty slowly these days.
Goldie--that corn decobber gizmo is pretty sweet! I had wondered about the parsley when it came, but decided to go ahead and plant it anyway and see what happened. I think someone is trying to tell me that I shouldn't be trying to grow peppers! Phones out for 2 days at the nursing home? Ah, they are supposed to have a back up plan for that. My office's back up plan for when the phones aren't working (which happens periodically) is to use certain people's cell phones. When there is phone trouble each patient (or facility where we are seeing patients) has to be called and notified of the problems and the alternate phone number to use. You or your brother should have gotten a phone call (or e-mail, or some communication) from the nursing home with alternative contact info. Not that it makes the situation any better, but at least families would know what's going on.
Cammy--Amazing how much stuff we use every day that we have to think about when we are going away, isn't it? Hmm, not sure I like that the doc wants you to come in. Maybe she is going to make a mountain out of a mole hill, but please be sure to take someone with you who will be able to catch all the details that you don't like to bother with. Just so that you cansatisfy our curiosity here in the lounge, ok?
Jazzy--Your weekend sounds lovely! We are getting some rain, will be getting some more through this week. The kayak hasn't gotten wet yet, but I'm looking doing that next weekend. Mom and Dick are doing pretty well. Mom threatened to move out recently cuz the bedroom isn't completely finished, told Dick she's not living the rest of her life in an unfinished house. I remember growing up there was always a project going on to finish the house, until they moved into a trailer, and even then she always wanted something done to the place.I'm not sure she'll ever find a "finished" place that will meet her standards. Anyway, Dick agreed to let someone come in and put up the finish work in the bedroom, so she's going to stay for now. Dick built the house they are in over the years, it started out as a camp and he has weatherized it and upgraded over time. It did take him several years to get the ceilings painted, though!Mom's been living with him now for more than 10 years. The Fl trip is in October, still working on saving enough money for the conference, hotel, airfare and boarding for Sadie.
Chi--OMG re: recreational MMJ!I think I would be worried like Bob about taking that into an airport, but it sounds like you were right and there was no issue. What a way to get you steps in! And the ongoing bra saga, you just cannot seem to catch a break! Glad you can at least get jeans on. Worried about the tooth sensitivity and palate bogginess. I hope the dentist can see you sooner rather than later.Even if not ONJ, it sounds like trouble.
