NM, doesn't surprise me one bit that you were requested. But still nice to know. I haven't been on a plane to catch the cold, he's all the places that DH has been with his issues. I so appreciate the help and explanation of palliative care. Mom has not been diagnosed with pneumonia, which surprises me, but she does have cronic COPD. I shared it all with my brothers to see what their thoughts are. I guess the big thing would be if medicade will pay for it, as the nursing home will be getting all of her money.
Cami, it's good to hear that Leslie is doing "OK" and that Joey is doing better too. And you so busy on dem phones. And there you are with one of your cock words "cockeyed".
Misty, the hardest thing for me is not being there to help my mom.
DH went for another ultra sound on his kidney and will be sent to a urologist as there is some blockage, then to chiro, then shopping. I felt really good yesterday, even normal. So I thought whatever I had was just a fluke. NOT. Woke up this morning with the dry, scratching throat and drippy nose.

Good Morning, Loungettes!Happy Saturday! Sadie and I had a lovely sleep in, and are totally not bothered by the gray, gloomy, drizzly day. Not sure what projects I'm going to work on this weekend, but one will present itself, no doubt. Mom's having a good visit with my brother and his wife, will be back sometimes this coming week. The snow is really melting off now, looks like I'll be able to at least go look at the raised garden beds in the yard. The containers on the deck are pretty much thawed out, some are waterlogged and need a bit of attention. The yard really does need work, but it's too boggy to work on just yet. Feeling the motivation to do some bigger decluttering projects now that I can reach the dumpster again.
Cammy--looks like you've been really busy!Good for you and your nephew's business.I did get caught up a bit in some office politics recently, but I think I've gotten that sorted out. But Idid find out that my favorite social worker to work with, and the only full time social worker, is cutting back after the end of this month. She's taken a part time job at a local cancer center and will be working 1 or 2 days a week with Hospice. I sure hope there will be another full time social worker taking her place, Hospice really cannot afford to have days without a social worker in the office, doing that plus the nursing work is way too much for one person. But, not my circus, not my monkey. Glad to hear Leslie is doing ok with rads. At least that one tiresone out over time and not all at once. Praying for her and Joey, and you.
Misty--I'm pretty much an I-know-what-I-like-when-I-taste-it wine drinker, too. I've learned a lot from Chi. I've also learned a lot from "Wine for Normal People." They have a Facebook site, a new web site, and a whole series of podcasts on iTunes. She explains a lot of the jargon and such in plain language, has guests that delve deeper into some aspects. There are over 100 podcasts, I'm still working my way through the earliest one, cuz I keep going back and re-listening to some of them.

Goldie--Medicaid should pay for a Palliative Care consult. COPD is a nasty disease, and can be so hard to manage, especially in the more advanced stages. Sounds like your immune system drove off whatever was trying to get a foothold. That's a good thing! And you probably did catch it from your DH. I thought you'd been on a plane recently. So much for my memory.

NM, this cold DID get a foot hold on me, boy did it ever! Went to bed at 4 last night. Of course I didn't sleep well. My brothers are all in for the palliative/hospice treatment and will check on it tommorow. I was in Michigan March 1-11, so about a month ago I was on a plane. Glad your mom is having a good time with your brother. I hope Dick is managing ok.

Good Morning, Loungettes!Happy Sunday Funday! Another grey day today, but at least it isn't raining. Even so, rain is better than snow! Went to a bean suppah with Dick yesterday. Of course, he knows people everywhere, no different yesterday, so I got to chat with some nice people and, of course, we got out our phones to show off dog pictures! Mom is having a good visit with my brother and his wife. She'll probably be home later this week. Not tomorrow, rain, possible "wintery mix", so she won't be driving tomorrow. While she's there my brother is setting her up with a new cell phone--different brand from the one I set her up with as she doesn't like it. She keeps turning things off and then wondering why it doesn't work. She doesn't want e-mail on her phone but wants to be able to e-mail pictures, doesn't want a weather app but won't go online to check the weather, and it's hard to get her to understand how the various apps work together (like you need e-mail on the phone to e-mail pictures from the phone, the camera app doesn't do e-mail). Anyway, she'll listen to my brother where she won't listen to me so maybe she'll be happier.

Drunken Donuts Cocktail
Ingredients
- 2 ounces espresso vodka
- 1 ounce chocolate liqueur
- 1 ounce coffee liqueur
- 2 ounces chilled or room temperature coffee
- Splash of hazelnut coffee creamer
Garnish:
- Donut hole
Directions
In a shaker with ice, add espresso vodka, chocolate and coffee liqueurs, coffee and creamer and shake until mixed and creamy. Pour into mugs. Slice a donut hole halfway through, and perch on the lip of the mug. Reward yourself by taking the day off work.

Sitting in the Delta Sky Club at O’Hare, killing time before my flight. No earlier flights to JFK available. Despite rain, it’s supposed to take off on time. Fingers crossed that the flight attendant can reseat me as close to the front as possible so I can be among the first off the plane at JFK—long walk from gate to AirTrain, then 10-20 min to Terminal 1, then security. They confirmed that a wheelchair probably wouldn’t get me through any faster because I’d have to wait at my arrival gate for it.
Was pouring rain when I left home and arrived here—so windy it knocked my bags over as soon as I got them to the curb! They let me keep my wrist brace on through security—it was that and not my knee implants that set off the metal detector. Was able to get into the Sky Club free, using saved flyer miles. Had a nice breakfast burrito and a triple cappuccino. Watching the tarmac and a lovely fireplace. This iPad Pro plus Smart Keyboard works pretty well—no more cramped layout than my laptop, and hella lighter. I put my brief tote in a large lightweight duffel with a pass-through sleeve for my rollaboard’s handle, and the duffel has room for my purse so it’s a single “personal item.” Flying coach to JFK on a regional jet, so it’ll be cramped, but Economy Comfort on Alitalia. They rejected my bid to upgrade to Business Class—apparently they had enough higher bids to fill the empty seats

Good morning ChiSandy - glad you are 'on your way'! O'Hare is notorious for delays eh?! Just wondering about bidding for a better seat or upgrade - how do you do this? I generally fly Delta or United and will be heading to Georgia in a few weeks via Delta...Too, did you use delta skymiles for the lounge? Would I 'cash' them in prior to my trip or right there at the lounge itself? Enjoy your travels!!!

Yes Lori I use my word as often as I can, I don't know why I find it so amusing---after all it is written that even a rooster uses it often. I remember when Joey was a baby I used to ask him "What does a rooster say???" And LOL so he'd say it often for me. And no one could really correct him or tell me to stop. Hey I never said I was a good grandma. just one that cuddled a lot.

Janky, a week before my flight, Alitalia sent me an e-mail inviting me to bid for an upgrade to business class. They had a little gauge with a needle that went from “in your dreams" (my words) to “almost certain," with the needle moving up the higher you bid. I bid solidly in the “good" chance zone, but there were too many people who bid way higher and too few open spots. (Depending on the size of your bid, they're supposed to let you know 24-72 hrs ahead of departure if you got it; they informed me I was on standby for them upgrade till 8 hrs. before the flight, at which time they officially rejected my bid. Still got Economy Comfort for the JFK-FCO leg,
Anyway, the Delta lounge was nice (I used 5000 miles, but a day pass is $59, or $29 with their Amex card—Bob'll never let me apply for yet another Amex). Had a sip of Veuve de Vernay Brut before boarding—and we sat there for 40 min. while they de-iced, since it had begun to sleet. Awful turbulence. We landed at almost the last gate at JFK Terminal 4, but the flight attendant showed me a shortcut to Terminal 1: free tarmac bus to Terminal 2, then a 2-block walk outside to Terminal 1. (Beats a 20-min. hike to the AirTrain and another 20-min. wait & ride to T1). This being JFK, half the elevators & escalators up to the TSA & departure gates were broken.
The TSA guy saw my cane, and from my boarding pass that my plane would be boarding in 20 min. (leaving in only an hour), so they waved me over to the crew & wheelchair lane. Even so, I barely made it (they paged me while I was halfway through security, but I couldn't tell what they were saying—bet they were telling me that I did get standby for the upgrade, but there was no way I'd get there in time. About half the population of Crown Heights & Boro Park (OK, I'm exaggerating) was on my flight en route to a Hasidic camp near Tel Aviv—and that meant a gazillion baby strollers, hat boxes, etc. The families (mostly Lubavitcher & Modern Orthodox) were nice, but the single guys (mostly Satmar & Bobover) were oblivious to women and were tremendously impolite. Got to my seat and found the young men had hogged all the overheads in Economy Comfort with their hard hat boxes even though they were in coach. But I had nice legroom and was handed a prosecco as soon as I sat down. Had a Chianti with dinner, and the breakfast coffee was Lavazza
Arrival & Immigration was a snap. But my bag had already been taken off the carousel (I had to wait to let all the Tel-Aviv-bound passengers off to make their connection, so I was 20 min. late to the carousel) and sent to Lost & Found. Finally retrieved it, and got my taxi. Insane traffic and a maze of one-way and arbitrarily blocked-off streets, but I did make it to my hotel. Writing this from the lobby because my room won't be ready till 2pm. GRRRR!!! There's a 1pm lunch reception which I will miss because I've been wearing the same clothes for almost 24 hrs and am exhausted—will hunt up an espresso (nobody does cappuccino or caffe latte after 11am) and a pastry, and maybe stay in the lounge till the room is ready (or see if I can nap here in the lobby—apparently the elevators are broken here too. (Deja vu from last year at the Athanaeum in London—I was on the 4th floor of the row-houses wing).Will check back in with you after I’ve caught some ZZZs and freshened up.

Good Morning, Loungettes!Happy Monkey day! When Sadie and I went to bed last night it was sleeting out. Got up to a quarter inch layer of ice on everything. This storm is still moving through and warming up slightly, so should turn to rain, which will be better than this mess. All I can say is "YUCK" but it's not as bad here as some places. Hopefully this will be the last of the "wintry" anything weather related for this season.
Goldie--Dick is managing well without Mom. She left him set up with all kinds of meals he just needs to thaw and heat up and he still cooks some himself, so he's eating well even though he looks like he's lost weight. It'll be interesting to see what Mom thinks when she gets home.Was it really a month ago that you were at your Mom's? I'm going to have to start a calendar to keep track of which BCO sistah is going where and when!

Chi--sounds like you are having a comfortable wait in the Delta Sky Club. By now you are probably in Italy. I hope your connection went smoothly and you had time to make it through. I suspect Economy Comfort is more comfortable than coach. Have a great trip!

Cammy--Thank you for the compliment! Sadie does like to mud up. You'll laugh at this one--the other day I let her out, she got muddy feet and then jumped back onto the bed and made a nest of the pillows, one of the pillow cases was all over muddy paw prints when I went to get ready for bed! Had to pull that pillow case off. Just a few paw prints on the blanket that had been washed the day before. I just brushed them off, there will be more! Glad Joey is home safe. Have a good day yourself!
Chi--so glad you found a shortcut through JFK, and the TSA guys was really helpful. Irritating to have to wait for the room to be ready, but at least you are there and safe and can get a bite to eat.

Sgroppino (Italian cocktail)
Ingredients
- 1 cup chilled Prosecco (Italian sparkling white wine)
- 2 tablespoons chilled vodka
- 1/3 cup frozen lemon sorbet
- 1/4 teaspoon chopped fresh mint leaves
Directions
Special equipment: 2 Champagne flutes
Pour the Prosecco and vodka into 2 Champagne flutes, dividing equally. Spoon a scoop of sorbet into each flute. Sprinkle with mint and serve immediately.

Cami, you are an amazing grandma. Look how much Joey loves you. I'm so glad you have each other. And yes, I feel horrible that I can not be with my mom. She is so lonely and in pain, cries most of the time when I talk to her on the phone. I told my DH that I may need to go there and be with her. Reminds me of when Hsant went to be with her dad, altho I can not stay as long as she did. My DH would go nuts without me.
Wow Sandy, what a trip you had! Hope you got some rest and can enjoy your time there. Time difference isn't too terribly bad, right? About 6 hours?
This weather for you in the east and midwest is just flippin crazy. And I think I mentioned before, that it also affects our business. I'm starting to feel a bit better, not so miserable.

Hi ladies- sorry I did not get a chance to check in this past weekend. I was on the go the whole time working on house and garden things. April is a busy time of the year around here, but finished cleaning out the back yard, pruning, mulching, and setting up the patio. And stucco repair got done last week, drip system is going to get some attention this week. Just have to call my handyman (maybe painter) and then will be done with spring maintenance. I have some new work opps that if they come through, will have me traveling more so I am getting things done around here to be ready for that!
I went to the botanic museum yesterday and the place at peak bloom. Some of you probably saw my full photo album on FB, but for others, I will include a few highlights at the end. Spring is here for sure, although we get blasts of cold wind (but no moisture). The windy days really mess up my happy hour plans too.
Goldie- I am sorry your mom is suffering and does not have quality of life. NM is so right on to get palliative care set up so she can be more comfortable. I hope DH is feeling better soon, and think you were coming down with a cold? So much stress, sending you much love sister.
ChiSandy- I know you are off to Rome and hoping you have safe travels! I know there will be some great food and wine over there waiting for you.
Cami- glad to see you continue to check in sister. I heard the midwest got another snow storm, were you affected? Winter go away.
Ill- congrats on the race and looking good sister. I am not a super athlete either but enjoy pushing myself to do things and meet some personal goals. NM- I hope you and Sadie get a break from the weather too. I think I saw another friend from Maine post about freezing rain. Sadie says she needs you to take her swimming soon and think that kayak may be coming out more this year? I hope so! I think you are doing a good job keeping up the boundaries with the hospice folks. They need a healthcare consultant to come in there and fix up their problems (no not volunteering, lol).

Jazzy--It'll will be so nice for you to have all the spring work taken care of, especially when you start traveling. Swimming and getting the kayak wet are definitely on the agenda this summer. I agree the office could use some help with the way they are treating staff, but since it's the top performing office in the New England area I doubt anyone is going to admit that anything is wrong. If the patient/family satisfaction surveyskeeping trending negatively that may change, but I doubt it. The flowers are BEAUTIFUL!

Lillet Rose Spring Cocktail
Lillet Rose, a fortified-wine blend of Sauvignon Blanc and Muscatel, has the aroma of flowers and ripe berries -- perfect for a springtime aperitif. Garnishing the drinks with edible flowers is a lovely touch.
Ingredients
- 12 ounces Lillet Rose
- 12 ounces Ruby Red grapefruit juice
- 6 ounces gin
- 6 edible flower blossoms (optional)
Directions
- Combine 6 ounces Lillet, 6 ounces grapefruit juice, 3 ounces gin, and ice in a cocktail shaker. Shake until well chilled. Strain and divide cocktail among 3 stemmed cocktail glasses, such as Champagne coupes. Repeat.
- Garnish with flowers. Serve immediately.

Weather is 70 and sunny 2 days in a row—not what you northeasteners & midwesterners wanted to hear!
Didn’t drink at lunch because I knew I would in the evening—and boy, did I ever! Reception at the law firm included prosecco and an Aperol spritz—which will likely be my cocktail of choice back home as it’s not as bitter as a Negroni. Then later at dinner, I had a white wine from the Alto Adige—“Manna,” a blend of Pinot Grigio, Chardonnay, and a regional grape whose name escapes me. Wonderful—fruity, floral, bone-dry.
Off to a food tour followed by dinner. Life is tough. (Oh, and Alitalia upgraded me to Business Class for the flight back to JFK—guess the 120 Hasidim from the flight over won’t be flying back from Tel Aviv yet. No screaming babies this time, whew)!

We got things rolling for my mom, thanks to NM for the suggestion. I don't know why I didn't think of that. My brother called the social worker at the home, and hospice was out there in a matter of hours and we could possibly get mom moved as soon as Wednesday! I gave NM a call to thank her and we had a nice little phone chat.
Well, we may change our plans and go camping next week, instead of heading to Laughlin today. Still have a bit of a cold, but it's not too bad.

NM - I live in Central Alberta, not too far from the Rocky Mountains, believe it or not, we have snow almost every month of the year!! Of course it is only a small bit that melts quickly, but snow just the same!!! Yesterday's was not typical of mid April, but there it sits outside my windows

Chi- ah Roma, you have fun sister. Last time I was to Italy, it was in the fall and the time difference was 9-10 hours depending on the day light savings going on then. It happened while we were out there and then came back here and it happened again a week later. The wines sound delish and glad you have good weather!
Goldie- glad to hear NM's suggestions helped you for your mom. I hope your cold continues to go away and you have some nice camping. Yesterday was great here, today the winds are up again. Thursday may be worse (dust storms predicted, ugh). Not great for my asthma?

Good Morning, Loungettes!Happy Hump day, which is TGIF day for me this week. The rain is finally moving out, and the wind is calming down. I am looking forward to a bit of a sleep in tomorrow ayem, especially since Sadie got me up twice to go out during the night. Silly dog would not go out at bedtime cuz it was raining. And she didn't want to go out the 2 times I got up to pee and asked her. I think it's a conspiracy to keep me from sleeping!

I only talked to my mom yesterday morning, and haven't heard anymore about hospice, so not sure if she will get moved today or not. She is still in isolation for lung virus RSV. Didn't make it to Laughlin yesterday, had too many things go wrong. Wind blew some wooden planks out of our fence in the town, started to blow the roof off on the warehouse, popped some of the screws out and then my washer started leaking! Considering going to Moab next week for some camping.

Already had one phone call from work this ayem asking about stuff that I made a point of making clear, detailed notes about in the patient chart, but nobody's bothered to read that yet. Sometimes I wonder about the whole thing. I try to always read the notes before I go see someone I don't know. Most of the time the notes don't help a lot but sometimes they do. Ah, well, not anything I can change. And no Hospice for 4 days! Got another project I need to be working on the rest of this week and will concentrate on that.
Goldie--Yeah, Silly Sadie is a bit funny, she doesn't like to go out in the rain, loves mud puddles, loves swimming, not so crazy about baths, doesn't like getting sprayed with water but will play in a plastic pool of water for hours. Make me shake my head sometimes. Sorry you didn't make it to Laughlin, but it sounds like you needed to be at home to pick up the pieces, literally! And then the washer leaking? Wow. Moab camping sounds good. Hopefully your Mom got moved yesterday, or if not, will be moved very soon.
