how about drinking?

Good Morning, Loungettes!Happy TGIF day! Sadie and I had a lovely sleep in this ayem. Slept till almost 8 ayem! I did go out to a wine tasting and dinner last night that was a lot of fun. We went to a little place I haven't been before, very eclectic, microbrewery beer based but with a nice selection of local wines and some meads and finger foods. I got a Maine Lobster Rangoon (Deconstructed), which was Rangoon filling made with lobster instead of crab and served as a dip with pita chips that was soooo yummy! And not badly priced, either! The service was inattentive after the food was served (I would have gotten a second glass of wine and probably a dessert, but they never came around again), we had to go up to the bar to the bar to get our checks. But it was a really nice time visiting with some people I know and getting to know a couple more. Our 6:30 to 7:30 dinner went until almost 9 peeyem, but who cares? And temps in the 30's today, so going to try to get lots of laundry done while I can hang it out and get it dry the same day.
Illi--Good for you for leading by example! Around here when the State Police and others recommend people stay off the roads many drivers take that as a challenge!
Goldie--First teaching job is the 29th actually, but I got the e-mail with all the details the other day. Today in the e-mail is a request for availability through the spring and summer. I didn't think there would be many classes run during the summer but apparently there are. There is even a chance to travel to teach, wouldn't that be a blast? What a great way to get to see some of New York City that would be. Well, I need to concentrate on doing a good job here and now if I want to take advantage of the traveling opportunity.
Jazzy--Hooray for a busy 2018! Boy, a luncheon and a dinner in one day, that can really sidetrack a healthy eating plan. Congrats on the weight loss, that is fantastic. With all the attention on good nutrition and health eating these days you'd think the folks who cater these luncheons and dinners would pay attention and make sure there is healthy option like salad served for people who are seriously watching their nutrition. Some of the cocktail names I've run across are simply awful, if not outright pornographic. Sometimes I wonder if the names are made up for the effect of saying such things in public!
Welcome, mistyeyes! Pull up a bar stool and tell us about yourself, or at least what your favorite drink is.
Celia--Sounds like that was one fantastic birthday celebration! One of the best kind, it sounds like.Informal but well organized.
Goldie-- Yes, I have some of those, somewhere. I need to find them and check them out this coming season, replace them if necessary, and think about some into fall gardening this year. What I really need here, though, is a good cold frame to extend the season. I'll have to do some more research on that and maybe make myself one this year. Those greens look lovely!
Jazzy--interesting about the blood test for multiple cancers. Raises a lot of questions in my mind, but I'm sure there will be lots more research and thought going into this before it becomes widely available.
Ille--It's getting to be a crazy world in cancer diagnosis and treatment. I'm sure the test would be available to the under 50 crowd eventually. People will demand it.

Kim, now that's what I call a meal in a glass!
With the duck breast I pan-seared tonight, 2014 Morgon. Bison rib-eye tomorrow, so that'll call for a Cabernet. Bob brought home a box of Malbec (despite a cellar full of wine--and two racks in the dining room I curated with bottles he can freely quaff--he complains I don't let him "guzzle" the quality stuff--darn right, that's for drinking). I'll pass, thanks.
-
Oh boy, where is everyone?
Kim, I love those water bags. However, you will not be able to get them from me. The couple that make them moved, and are not in production right now. She said maybe in the fall. We were gonna have like 5000 of them made to sell on our website, but they have a patent on the product. I could have had them made super cheap, way cheaper than what I get them for from her.
LOL at Bob wanting to guzzle the good stuff!
We went to the movies, saw Commuter with Liam Neeson. Was just an ok movie, he's done better ones. Got me a new trail cam to set outside, to see whats getting into the scraps I throw in my fire pit!
-
goldie,
Husband is busy cooking breakfast. I'll be serving up western egg sandwiches for dinner.
Husband wants to get a trail cam to see the critters that come at night and eat the bird food in the backyard.
Cami,
I hope Leslie is having a restful weekend while on the mend.
NM,
Love the winter coat.
We had a windy night and now a windy day in the North Country. Sadie get nervous when windy?
karentwriter,
Doing okay?
Cyndielou,

Good morning, Loungettes! Happy Saturday! Got the sun peeking through the clouds this ayem, but the weather guessers are calling for some snow or rain. I give up trying to figure it all out. I'm just going to go by what I see when I look out the window and step out on the deck. I think I can do just as good a job as the people getting paid to guess the weather!
Chi--Your poor hubby, he sounds so abused in the wine guzzling department!
Goldie--I'm pretty sure I still have the water bags I ordered before, it's just a matter of finding them. There are a couple of places in the basement I haven't cleaned out yet, mostly cuz it's outdoor stuff and it makes more sense to look at that in the spring when I can decide to use it and put it to work or toss it if I'm not going to use it. There is a huge number of plastic plant pots of all sizes, those will be hard to part with, but that's a project for spring. I would love to have a trail cam to see what goes on in the field in back of my house, especially at night.
Teka--Sadie does well with windy weather, but she can get a bit nervous with thunder and fireworks. More so with fireworks.

Good morning friends- Jazzy got hit with a nasty bug that has had her down since Friday afternoon. I almost think it could be the "flu light" as I had chills, severe body aches, a headache, some congestion and a sore throat. But never really saw a fever develop- been checking that regularly. My normal body temp is 97.7 and did see it go up to 98.6 yesterday, but never higher. The body aches were really bad though and the exhaustion too, not like I have had in a long time. The sore throat started last week, and by an apt on Friday, I could tell more was happening so I came home and went to bed and pretty much been there since that time. Lots of sleep between night time and napping Friday to yesterday. Today I feel like I may be pulling out of this finally. I took this very seriously because of how bad this flu is and people dying. I have had the pneumonia shot awhile back too because of asthma.
I had a good week otherwise with some prof org connections/networking and other good things happening. I do feel behind on a few fronts and going to work on some things here at home today for my taxes/biz but will be taking it easy too. I came off the diet Friday knowing that is not what my body needs at the moment. I can resume that when I am feeling better, but still enjoying some good healthy food. I reintroduced some things that are easy to eat like yogurt. Yes, I sort of lost my appetite along the way too?
Been reading but not posting and hope the rest of you are staying healthy. Hugs to anyone out there who is furloughed with the gov shutdown and who has to work with no pay right now too.
Have a good funday sunday and more to follow as I recoup over here!

Good Morning, Loungettes!Happy Sunday Funday! Bright sunshine here, temps gotup above freezing yesterday, lots of snow and ice gone again. Got a lot of clutter cleaned out of the bedroom, mostly clothes that haven't been put away properly, and the bedroom feels so much lighter and brighter. I really need to get back in the groove of decluttering and cleaning again. Poor Sadie didn't know what to do, she wanted to be with me, so she tried sitting in the bedroom doorway, but I was chucking stuff that didn't belong in the bedroom or needed to be taken to the laundry room and kept hitting her with them. Eventually she snorted at me and wandered off back to the living room. When I got done and wandered back to the living room myself she gave me the cold shoulder for quite a while. I guess I need to remember that I cannot use whatever spot she has chosen to occupy for cleaning purposes!
Jazzy--So sorry to hear you caught a bug! You are doing a great job taking care of yourself and giving your body all it needs to recover a fast as possible. Also glad you had a good week work wise before the bug hit.

0.5 oz. tumeric syrup
0.5 oz. lemon juice
5 oz. hot water
Sprinkle of cayenne
Garnish with lavender & lemon peel
Directions: This rift on a Hot Toddy warms the body and boosts the immune system when the weather is wet with a warming concoction of cold busting spices that include ginger, turmeric, lemon & cayenne. Mix all ingredients together in a large mug and enjoy.
-
Teka, my DH cooked breakfast yesterday too! What is a Western Egg Sammy? I got the trail cam, only $60.00. Was a bit chilly and super windy here yesterday, so didn't mess with it. It does require 8 AA batteries. I will also post any pictures of what I see!
NM, don't toss the water bags. I would take them and pay for the shipping on them. As I can't get anymore. I'm excited about using the camera. Not sure if that will get done today or not. We did get some snow and not too warm out today and for the next few days. Great remedy for Jazzy!
Jazzy, glad you recognized early on that you were getting sick and could take care of yourself properly! Do continue to take it easy and get better.
Cami, it's good to see Les on FB. Tells me she's at least feeling up to that.
-
NM- so funny, one of my guy friends also told me to take two shots of whiskey and go to bed and I would be better. Lol. I really hate whiskey though.....
I love grand marnier with slices of oranges for my sickness cocktail (I need to get some oranges......)
-
When I was younger, I used to make my own "homemade NyQuil:" a couple of Tylenol, Sudafed, and a chaser of good Armagnac. (Now the Armagnac would keep me up all night with heartburn and the Sudafed would spike my BP).
Jazzy, sounds like you've got what my mom (and my old FP back in the day) would have called "the grippe." If you had the flu shot, it could actually be flu but with much milder symptoms due to that. (Not worth wasting Tamiflu on, because that stuff can have serious side effects and should be reserved for unmistakeable flu symptoms--which are severe and sudden).
-
Chi- I think you are right and do remember my mother using that term too. I felt much better today, even able to get out for some errands. I am being careful though as several have said the bigger flu started like this, got better, and then they got slammed. Being careful as the flu is a deadly one. But jazzy thinks she will live!
Cami- hope things are okay with you and Leslie is coming through the worst of it?
-
Glad you're getting better. I'm feeling very "sinus-y," but that's because the barometer is dropping and a storm's about to hit.
Late lunch was leftover sashimi, so I had a couple oz. of Mumm Napa Brut Reserve.
Dinner was a bison ribeye, so with it an oz. of 2010 Signorello Cabernet Sauvignon.
-
Good Morning, Loungettes!Happy Monkey Day! Woke up to a dusting of snow this ayem. But just a dusting, nothing to worry about. Supposed to get snow showers off and on today. Maybe some accumulating stuff tomorrow. Funny when temps in the 20's and 30's feels really warm! Sadie had a grand time outside most of the day yesterday supervising the neighborhood.
Goldie--I don't plan to get rid of the water bags, I plan to use them! If I change my mind about that I'll get in touch and send them to you. 8 AA batteries for the trail cam? Sounds like a lot, but what do I know. Can't wait to see the pics you get.
Jazzy--My mother once had a doctor give her a recipe for cough/cold medicine: 2 tablespoons of honey and 2 tablespoons of lemon juice dissolved in 1/4 cup hot water and 2 tablespoons of whiskey. Take 1 to 2 tablespoons every 30 minutes for coughing and cold symptoms. According to Mom it was very effective! I think I like the Grand Marnier with orange slices better, though!
Chi--That homemade NyQuil sounds potent! My Dad used to call winter illnesses like this "the grippe" too! I vaguely remember my grandmother (his mom) saying the same thing.
Jazzy--I'm glad you are aware of the way this year's flu likes to come back hard after an initial, lighter course. Lots of rest!

Gosh Jazzy, scary to think it could get better then come back and hit you again. Praying that doesn't happen and you continue on the mend.
NM, I only said that cuz I think you said you might just toss them. Maybe you meant just the pots and I misunderstood. I DO hope you can use them. I just love them, but you do have to have the sun.
2 degrees here this morning. I hope my plants are ok????

Good morning friends - feeling better and better now. I got out yesterday for a few groceries and some bird seed (my birds are cold and hungry and I was out of supplies!) Cold out so I bundled up and went to run those errand for an hour. Slept well last night and busy today with business things. I thought I had an apt at the house this am but it is next Monday (whew!)
Going to stay in today and focus on things here and continue to have time to rest as I need to. Don't want a set back. By tomorrow, I think I will be back to my normal routines. Thanks for all your care and support here!
I have my MO apt this week on Friday. Blood work done and results were in the portal last night and feel ready to go! I will have my Prolia shot too, probably the last one for the last few months of the AIs. Two months from today, I am off those meds! Planning some celebrations in March for that, along with my birthday too.
Goldie- we got a bunch of snow between Sat night into yesterday, mostly in the mountains and so glad for the moisture. There was some snow and rain here in town sat night at my house, woke up to a wet patio. That is the first major snow we have had all winter and hope for more, although I see nothing else in the forecast. Did you get the storm? Dang girl, that is cold for out here.
NM- believe it or not, I forgot to get oranges at the store yesterday! LOL. Sounds like Sadie is enjoying her role in the neighborhood. Stay warm and safe today.
Did you know there is a dog flu going around? My sisters golden is sick and she had been to the groomer last week and not well a few days later. A friend told me this is going around. Be careful with Sadie. My sister has her golden girl going to the vet and we hope she is better soon. We all love her so much.

Chi- I so love Mumm sparkling champagne. The rose is my favorite.
Where is everybody else?
Wishing everyone a good start to the week!

Good Morning, Loungettes! Happy Twofer Tuesday. The news report this ayem is starting out with the story of a woman on the way to the hospital to have labor induced whose car went off the road and rolled over, she was killed, the baby was delivered by emergency C-section, is in critical condition. When I was working in Neonatal ICU many years ago we had the same situation. I remember how hard it was for the husband/father, especially when the baby died a few days later. Such a horrible thing to have happen. Black ice is being blamed for this accident. OK, now they are talking about the flu season and how bad this year's H3N3 flu is. And how most of the cases are in nursing homes and assisted living facilities, both places that have high percentages of flu vaccination of residents. Doesn't sound like the flu vaccine is doing what it's supposed to be doing.
Goldie--nope, not planning to toss the water towers, just the plastic pots. I am hoping yours are working hard to protect your plants, 2 degrees is cold for plants!
Jazzy--Glad you are feeling better. And so glad to hear that you are almost done with the AI, going to be a good time for celebrating when your birthday rolls around! Oh, no, to forget the oranges! Kind of funny, sort of like forgetting the one item you went to the store to get in the first place. Sadie does like supervising the neighborhood, and making sure everyone knows what is going on. I had heard something about dog flu,and just watched the report you linked to. Right now Sadie isn't around any other dogs except for the occasional escapee in the neighborhood. I'm hoping that relative isolation will keep her safe from it. I haven't heard that it's around here yet, but I'm working on the assumption that it is. Got to do some research on the canine flu vaccine now.

Jazzy, no storm here and more snow in the mountains here as well. Altho I am at 6000', we just got a dusting. Glad you are starting to feel better.
NM, horrible story about the pregnant mom. Hopefully this baby will make it. My plants survived. They don't look like they got hit AT ALL! They look perfect, just like in the pictures I posted. Amazing! Interesting cocktail, almost like a smoothie!
My gooness, where is everyone????

Good morning friends- well I am feeling like the bug is back again, woke up feeling tired and a bit achy again so the crud is still with me. But I knew it might make a return. Working on a contract renewal, tax stuff, and filing so I will continue on with that today but no trip back to the pool yet. I have to be sure I am well by that MO apt on Friday.
NM- that is a super sad story about the mom loosing her life and that baby having to begin life without her. I hope the baby was far enough to term to do okay. Devastating for the family. I rolled an SUV on black ice back in the 1990's and was lucky to walk away unscathed, but know that is usually not the case.
Goldie- dusting here too in our valley, the foothills around the mountains got more. Been cold here and feels more like real winter.
I talked to my BFF last night who is almost a week in to her 3 weeks of rads. She is using the cremes and say it all helps and seeing her RO today. We had a good talk about how we have to adjust things during cancer treatment to make it all a priority. I told her the rads would go quickly and she said it is. She is starting to feel a bit of fatigue and did say there may be more of that with time, but it will pass and sometimes you don't know how long it will remain with you even after you are done. She said she is already feeling she needs to make some changes in her life going forward.
Wishing everyone a good tuesday and hope all the sisters here are doing well.

MO appt was yesterday. Biggest news is that my right hip is no longer osteopenic, and the osteopenia everywhere else has improved. Also, lost 2.2 lbs. And I am no longer anemic: hemoglobin is 12.2, higher than before surgery, and 'crit is 39. Will keep taking iron until told otherwise. Now for the not-so-hot news: fasting glucose (well, almost-fasting, had a mini-cannoli at 2am, and a double espresso in the morning before my noon labs) was 133. Sounds like Type 2, any way you slice it. (WIll have to see if my a1c, which wasn't tested today, is in the high 6s--that would confirm it). Bob thinks I should have the "metformin talk" with my PCP, who probably would like me to try lifestyle changed first. My MO says that the statin likely pushed my glucose over the edge (before statins & AIs, fasting glucose was in the low 90s), but the statin was necessary because the letrozole spiked my LDL. (But if you're lying in the ER having a heart attack, they're not going to say "it's not heart disease, it's just her meds;" they're going to treat the heart attack. Doesn't matter what caused diabetes or hyperlipidemia--once you have it you have it and you treat it). All in all, she's pretty happy with the state of my health.
But the biggest shocker came at the shrink's office (I took Gordy to his appointment after my MO visit): Gordy wants to try living on his own before moving in with his girlfriend. (Even if that's her idea, she's right: he needs to acquire certain daily-life skills between living at home with no household duties other than cat care and taking out the trash before combining two lives--one of whom has been self-sufficient for several years). He even wants to go back to driving school and get a car, so he can be more employable as a substitute teacher when not performing & writing.
I have mixed feelings--I'm not ready to be an empty-nester, but I honestly should have been ready a decade ago. When I was his age, I'd been married 11 years and was pregnant with him! I want him to "launch," but confidently, successfully and most of all happily. He won't, however, be taking our little princess kitty Heidi, who although she loves me adores him. He knows that though cats can bond with their people (or even a longtime feline companion), they are more attached to their surroundings. (Want to drive a cat crazy? Rearrange the furniture). He will visit often, of course.
Our housekeeper will probably also be retiring within the year, as soon as she can sell her house in a slow-to-gentrify neighborhood and move back to AL and her extended family. These winters are rough on her, and especially her DH--a retired chef who is a diabetic and a prostate cancer and angioplasty survivor. We offered Gordy the house, since Bob & I will probably want to downsize to a townhouse or 2/3-BR condo, or even a seniors' independent living highrise downtown. He declined--a little too emphatically. (No more mortgage, so he'd pay only taxes, insurance & upkeep).
And today's my birthday. (How'd I get to be 67? I remember my surprise 40th birthday party, for pity's sake)!
Last night's DOTD with surf (seared salmon) & turf (leftover bone-in ribeye) was 2013 Morgon du Puy. Today's thus far is a perfect almond milk cappuccino: new beans, brewed through a bottomless portafilter as a perfect "God shot" (an elusive barista goal), and perfectly frothed almond milk. Not going anywhere tonight (Bob working late, Gordy rehearsing late), so with whatever I order out (unless Whole Foods has live lobsters, I'm not cooking on my b'day), Champagne.
-
Wow Sandy, a lot going on for you right now.
-
Chi- have they been watching your A1C vs just fasting? My PCP started checking that the summer before I got my pre-diabetes, then six months after I started the AIs and during my next annual physical, I hit the line. I went on a low dose of metformin, then it went higher and I went to 1000 and well, now the endocrinologist has me taking a couple things.
I think I have shared before here there seems to be an increase with people who have bc and diabetes. Here is the newest article about it. I also learned metformin seems to be good for us bc survivors. My endocrin says the link between insulin resistance and cancer is there. She has been working to get that turned around for me. My fasting glucose is now between the 70s to 80s.
https://www.medicalnewstoday.com/articles/253976.p...
Glad your hemoglobin is back up! And congrats on the bone health too. That Prolia really works!
And about Gordy, good idea for him to learn to take care of himself via having his own place before he lives with someone. Everyone in life needs those basic skills about how to do for themselves whether they partner up or not. I think it would be a good step. My brother lived at home well into his 20s and my mother did most everything for him during that time, and he lived with a male roommate and then on his own for a good 5 years before he got married. Really helped him a lot to be out on his own for awhile and he also owned his own home before he bought one with his wife. Yay for Gordy!
-
Oh and happy birthday ChiSandy!
-
My PCP will run an a1c, but the MO's chem panel only looks at glucose. She suggests getting my labs early in the day so I don't have to deprive myself of food too long (I hit the hospital espresso bar ASAP afterward), and says fasting is more accurate, but random is better than nothing. My last a1c, taken in May, was 6.1 (a year earlier it was 5.8). The Crestor, necessitated by letrozole, dramatically improved my lipids but sure did a number on my glucose. And both panels were normal before starting letrozole.
-
Oh no Jazzy, so sorry to hear it came back. I hope you are well by the time of your mo appt. And so nice of you to be there to help your friend through all of this.
Chi, quite the mo visit for you. Funny about not wanting to feel the empty nester at 67. Good for him wanting to make all of these changes, with driving and living on his own. Sounding serious mom!
Missing so many of our ladies, I hope they are all doing well.

Good Morning, Loungettes! Happy Hump Day!After a foggy and gloomy day yesterday there is lots of sunshine today. It was really interesting yesterday watching the wind work up and blow around the rain and fog, than watching the temps drop overnight and glazing everything over with ice. Now temps are back above freezing, things are trying to thaw out again. I'm glad I don't have to go anywhere today. Give all the mess a chance to clear itself away.
Goldie--that is a horrible story, and last night I heard on the news that an older child was in the car, too, but apparently not hurt. Glad your plants are doing well, those water pockets are fantastically effective!
Jazzy--the woman was actually on the way to the hospital for a planned induction of labor, so baby is full term, which is a big item in it's favor.A lot will depend on how long it was from the time mom's heart stopped to the time CPR was started. An unborn baby can go quite a bit longer than 4 minutes without oxygen, and CPR to the mother can extend that time but it still isn't perfect.Black ice is such a scary thing. I'm happy to hear your friend is doing well and has you to give her tips and validate what she is feeling. Keep taking care of yourself so this bug blows over soon.
Chi--Hooray for reversing the osteopenia! And kicking the anemia! Good point about heart attacks related to medication induced conditions, they are still heart attacks after all. Good for Gordy wanting to live on his own before moving in with his GF, however he got there! He really does need to know that he can take care of himself by himself to go into a relationship as an equal partner. I can imagine the mixed feelings this is bringing up in you, though. Then to hear the housekeeper is planning retirement, wow. What a time of change is coming up for you! And Happy Belated Birthday!!! Don't blame you for not cooking on your birthday!
Jazzy--I didn't know about the connection between bc and diabetes. Not sure I like the idea of having one more thing to worry about, but since I didn't do chemo maybe I don't have quite so much to worry about on that score.

Good morning- feeling a bit better today. I felt better as the day went on yesterday and slept really well last night. One thing for sure, being sick has helped get rid of my usual insomnia! I go to bed early and sleep through the night! I got a lot done for my business stuff yesterday, but will be going out today to get some things taken care that need my attention.
Goldie I see Cami out on FB this morning so my guess is she may be pooping in here soon!
I learned there is a high school reunion (40 years, eek) being planned for my high school graduating class in my home town this year. One of my childhood friends, whom I reconnected with about eight years ago, reached out today to let me know and wants me to go and we can room together at a hotel. I like the idea and trying to find out more details on when they will do this? They often do them in the late fall and hope not, summer or even mid fall is the better time. I have only been to one in the past as I was not in the area very much since then (or traveling with work), so I did the 15 year one in the early 1990s when everyone was still youngish! I hope to be able to do this and been wanting to visit with this friend too and it will allow me to see others in the area too. Going to start working the plan to go!
NM- I have an old friend from the hood who lives in Maine and posted about that accident on FB yesterday. I saw a lot of scary videos about people sliding around in the ice storm. I remember those ice storms well growing up back east and also my three years living in TX. Hope you are being careful in all that weather. You probably have a nice hard crust now on your snow?
Wishing everyone a good day!

Had a rough morning and ended up going to sleep on my lounge chair, not sure what time, but didn't get up until 8. I had to get something to eat as I was late getting my FU pills down for my morning dose.Hence forgetting to wish Sandy a Happy Birthday.
NM, I like the Foggy Due, but I'll have one of the Tenders make mine minus the egg. Just can't stand the thought of a raw egg in mese drink! Glad you can stay home today, I'll bet Sadie is happy as well. I too was very surprised that my plants made it through without any incedences at all. I thought for sure they would have been toast at 2 degrees!
Jazzy, I didn't have too many HS freinds. I was quiet, not bad looking, but people thought I was conceited, so they ignored me. Went to my 20 year, and didn't know hardly anyone there.
Illona, who is Ella???
Birthday Song -
I assume Ella was a troll. The user created a profile today and made several post telling people not to drink, not to smoke, etc. All posts have since been deleted.

Ill- I thought that was a strange post. Don't do what, I wondered? Like a thousand things we talk about here? Thanks for being on top of it.
