Mary,
I have said many times that this board has been my rock. We were all fortunate to find it and each other. -
Janie, Nancy Lee, did you guys notice really tight muscles in you back, legs, arms, neck and hands? Did you get muscle spasms from the tightness? It feels like my muscles have shrunk and are pulling on my bones....OUCHEEEE. It too shall pass. I think my feet and head are going to curl up and meet. What a thought. Mary
-
Mary,
I did not notice tightness so much, but I stayed on pain pills, mostly Tylenol, but sometimes something stronger. I rarely take anything now and I can wear my shoes again! You will get to here too, my friend. -
Mary--YES, YES, YES in the back, YES in the legs, no to the arms, YES, YES in the neck, and YES in the hands. I've gotten so used to the back thing that now I figure that it's just going to be a part of my life forever. Hot showers feel really good and I have this massage thing that heats up and does this backrub thing that I have sitting in my one rocking chair. It's NICE. Sometimes I take TylenolER when it gets really bad. My legs are not quite as bad. My hands are another story all together. Now they've started the nice little habit of cracking open on the ends. Currently the pointer finger of my right hand and the thumb of my left are split open. It makes life interesting and typing a wee bit painful. I've been working 10 and 11 hour days at the daycare because one of my employees went to San Diego with her boyfriend and my cook has pneumonia. I've been going to work at 7:30, making breakfast for 23 to 30 kids, then washing dishes from that and cooking lunch for 30 to 35 kids, then washing dishes from that and then whipping up an afternoon snack for @30 kids and then cleaning up from that and then taking care of children in between all those kitchen duties and then after the last of the children leave at 6:30 at night I've been cleaning the daycare for the next day. That involves mopping and vacuuming and the kitchen and the preschool and the nursery and the bathrooms all need disinfected. It takes over an hour so I leave usually after 7:30 at night. It makes for a VERY long day and then I drive back to my ranch and take care of the dog and cat and maybe grab a bite for myself and then crash. That's sorta where I've been for the past couple of weeks, but my cook is better and should be back on Monday and my other caregiver/cleaning woman is on her way back from California. I just took out the garbage tonight and left the rest a mess. She should be back on Sunday afternoon and she said she'd clean. YAY!!! I want to be just Director/Caregiver again for the rest of the month. I just read back thru all your posts. YOU are my support group. Thank you, thank you, thank you. I gotta quit and go take my flag down. I see that the bottom holder broke on it in the wind today. We're supposed to get 3 to 5 inches of new snow tonight. It's pretty cold and windy out there--must be blowing something nasty up--Hooray--winter is still with us here in Montana. Life is Good--Smiles--NancyLee
-
Mary,
Maybe Nancy Lee clarified it for me (I need all the help I can get). Did you mean like muscle tension and pain? If so, then YES I had that and still do sometimes....but I also had it before, but not as much as when in treatment. I use hot rice towels heated in the microwave that fit into every little aching groove. A massage sounds great, but then I have the lymphedema deal....and it is beginning to annoy me.
Have a great weekend ladies!!!!!!!!!!!!! -
Good evening Girls, Well I went to Springfield this afternoon. What a mess. There are places that are totally destroyed. Some parts are still without power. A lady at the mall said she is still without heat and it is down to 28 at night and low 40's in the day. Burrrrr. Some of the stores are still closed and I wanted to go to Best Buy to check on a G.P.S. but they wont be open for 2 more wks. I think you could get a good price on a dinged car. They said on the news some of the repair shops are destroyed and there are sooo many cars needing repaired. Some of the car dealers got tore up. Gee it is amazing what wind can do. We were camping one time with 2 of our kids and got hit by a tornado and it rocked us in our camper. It was pretty scary and I never want to be in one again. I woke at 2 a.m. because it was so quiet. I couldn't hear the frogs or crickets and then I heard a train getting louder and louder and then it threw us around. When we got out the giant trees looked like x-mas trees from all the clutter in the tops of them. We sold the camper. The back pain is really getting bad. I think I am going to have to take the pain pills a little more often. Tylenol isn't working anymore. My fingers are bad too. My scalp gets tender on top like when my hair fell out on A/C. It goes away in a couple days. Gosh Nancy Lee you are like the energizer Bunny girlfriend, you make me tired just reading your post. I would make up a new game for the kids called clean the daycare. Gosh, If hubby is going to be back and forth to Texas I can meet up with Janie and P.J. then when we go to Wi. I can check in with Rene. You girls have a truck stop close by? Oh my lord, I am a trucker mama already. Maybe I will even get to Nancy Lees neck of the woods when it warms up. Well I better get. Later little snowbirds, Mary
-
Mary, There is a truck stop called Echos off of I-85 about 45 minutes from here. Great food. We have stopped there on the way to or from TN before. There are also truck stops in Commerce which may be even closer I don't know. There are also a zillion shopping outlets there, so that may be a distraction. They closed the Dexter shoe outlet however, and it was my favorite. I love Dexter shoes, but it is hard to find them in GA, especially at outlet prices.
Mary, I had no idea the tornado actually touched down. Chemo brain must be kicking in again.
Well, today will be busy. One more week until break! Only a few more days until I become what "used" to be considered elderly. However, you cannot keep us baby boomers down.
Later Mary, PJ, Renee, Nancy, Anyone Else, -
You having a birthday Janie? I used to think one is only as old as they feel but I have revised that to one is as old as one feels when on lots of pain medication and not looking in a mirror. You have anything planned for Spring break or just hanging out. They had Springfield on the weather channel and news channels after the tornado showing the damage. Better go I told my grandaughter I would take donuts over this morn. Hey!!!!!We are going to get 3 to 6 inches of snow!!!!!What the hey???? Hugs, Mary
-
Mary,
Yep, I will be 60 Thursday! I have tentative plans. I am not really sure what all I will be doing. I have plenty to catch up on around here, not to mention I have not done my taxes yet. I do want to see the folks in TN for a couple of days while I am off. We shall see what happens.
Sounds like you all have had a time of it weatherwise. Snow? Are you kidding? I am in short sleeves!
I am on the list to serve refreshments at the faculty meeting tomorrow. Too much food at the schools lately. I am going to try to hold to a diet coke, or take a diet rite with splenda. I read lately that aspartane (in most diet drinks) slows the metabolism. Speaking of which, the treadmill is calling me.
One of the TN Lady Vols got the lst dunk in NCAA women's tournament history today! They won 102 to 54 against army. I hope they do better than the men did.
later gators, -
Geez, Janie, short sleeves????? It's a HOWLING blizzard here in the frozen north. The temperature is 20 degrees and the windchill factor is -35 so it's a wee bit cold. I have thermal underwear (very attractive with tiny pink roses on it) and a sweatsuit on to keep warm. My dog, a border collie sheep dog, who loves winter is lying under my feet sleeping. He NEVER comes into the house unless the weather is crappy so you know how bad it is. It's okay because Sunday is supposed to be a day for rest so I'm taking advantage of that today. But I just heard on the radio that the highway between me and town is now closed due to blowing snow and zero visibility. Hope it quits by morning because I'm supposed to go to work?? If I can't, I pray that all my workers are back from their various problems. I think that 60 isn't old--I turned 54 on Friday the 13th two months ago so I'm headed for 60. I'm just happy to have birthdays to celebrate cuz some people aren't given the chance to grow older. That makes us lucky that we are afforded the opportunity and besides you grow older, but nothing says that you have to grow up!!!!! Mary, there are actually 2 trucking dispatch companies right in Baker that send trucks all over the USA and Canada. The one has a big sign out front that says--"If you got it, it came by truck". That's because all freight into this town does come by truck. We have train tracks through town but they only stop at the elevators at harvest time. The rest of the time they just sail right thru town. So trucking is big business around here. I don't know what this has to do with anything, but I made myself some cheesy broccoli soup for lunch and now I keep burping. It's a good thing I live alone because that isn't a very attractive quality!! I just really am on a broccoli bender for some reason lately. It used to be cauliflower that I couldn't eat enough of. My food preferences are all out of whack. Oh, well--Malcolm Forbes said, "People who never get carried away, should be". Better get back to vegging out in my rocker. This computer chair is a back killer and now my "flip people off finger" has started to crack too. OW--OW!! Enough whining. Hope you all have had a joyful Sabbath and have an even better week. Life is Good--Smiles--NancyLee

Hola, everyone. Back from my big, snowy adventure.
Things started out, as you may recall, with Nathan being ill and feverish and COVERED in rash from his head to the soles of his feet. His fever was down to 99 on travel day, so we went, splotches and all. Then, as we're getting in line to go through security, Nathan throws up. (I put it down to him feeling lousy but running around like a nincompoop with his friend that was on the trip with us) So, I force him onto the little prop plane (well, he WANTED to go) that flies between here and Dallas. First time I've been on a plane and someone used the barf bags. Poor guy. It was a long, long day.
Fast forward to Tuesday: ski lesson day. Here's what we learned: Nathan and I hate skiing. The boots hurt. There's so much equipment to lug around and store and get back and store again. Yuk. My first trip down the baby slope I ran into a 3-year-old skiing in front of me. His instructor jumped out of the way, I forced myself to fall down and slide into the kid so I could pick him up and put him on top of me. It was actually a great save; the kid never hit the ground. Of course, my hair did - about 3 feet behind me. Very attractive. I lasted about 30 more minutes and then just hung out and people-watched a bit, checked my cell phone and had a message from the ski school to come get Nathan - who refused to return to ski school after lunch.
So Nathan and I spent the next 2 days roaming around Park City, buying Legos and silly souvenirs, etc. It was fun. Nathan loves the snow and snowballs. It was a beautiful setting and not too cold. We ended the week going tubing (much better than skiing) and Nathan got to ride some mini snowmobiles.
Oh, and of course, while I'm there, the gyno calls and says they found some cells in my uterine biopsy that they can't figure out why they'd be tehre. So, add a D&C to tuesday's ovary surgery. If they find something untoward, they'll go back in in a few weeks and take out the rest of the plumbing. Lovely. Crossing my fingers that THAT won't happen.
Janie, hope you have a merry birthday this week. And Mary, come on down with hubby sometime. We have lots of truck stops in Waco, as we're right on I-35. Renee and Nancy Lee, bundle up up there in the frozen north!
TTYL,
Paula -
Oh Paula, we were all wishing for a relaxing, quiet, fun vacation for you. Now I know why I've never gone skiing- I'd agree with most of what you said..people watching can be quite fun.. except for the people that may have been watching Nathan.. poor guy. Sounds like he did feel better later in the trip? Hopefully?! Next trip... maybe the beach. Or if you want snow, just come visit me,Mary or Nancy Lee.
How where your eyes with the sun and snow?
Renee -
Nancy - I hope all your workers return and it thaws out some there. However, some of the cold has come this way now. It was in the forties today. Not as cold as there, but no short sleeves either.
Paula, I went skiing many years ago and also thought the boot pain was not worth it. They fit snug around the ankles and hurt like the dickens. I was in Austra and I unfortunately caused the 2 to 3 year old in my story to fall. I am sure I got cursed out in German by a 3 year old. I also got cursed out in German by a grown man, but that is another story. I only fell once the whole time but it was excruciating. With the way we feel about skiing and after all the steroids we have taken, I don't think either of us are headed for Olympic gold. It sounds like you all finally did have a good time.
Hey Renee, Mary -
Well hello you little ski bunny. Sorry to hear Nathan was sick but glad to hear you had some good times on your trip. We are looking at a blizzard tonight and tomorrow. Heavy snow(upgraded to 8 to 10 inches) and winds of 35 mph. White out conditions for my son and daughter to drive 30 miles each to work on the open roads. I called and warned them but they will just do what the H$#l they want to. I can't wait to get away from this weather. We have been so lucky the last few years but I think our luck may have ran out. We will see, usually when they predict a bad one its not. Glad you are back P.J. we missed you. Nancy had me in stitches with her last post. Hey, now you girls go through your houses and write down all the things you need "fixed or redone" and I bet I can talk hubby into doing a little work for yas.......Oh don't thank me I know how greatful you would all be. It's funny hubby keeps telling me how he wants to "fix up" that truck but it isn't his so he has to wait until he gets his. He will be home Thurs. if he can get through with the blizzard. He would be a buzzard in the blizzard. Well, I better hide all the tools and say I packed them. My Lord, I haven't missed the clanging of boards or pounding of the hammer and worry of what he is tearing up next. He doesn't reapir the cars well either. Once he changed my brakes and they were making noise so I happened to be close to the car dealer and they wouldn't let me leave until they fixed them. He was either trying to kill me or he just did not get the bolts tight enough. They don't give you "extra" bolts with car parts. Yea; we put a stop to car repairs real quick. Well it sounds like Nancy had the snow already and Rene and I are in for a rough ride for a couple days. YUK!!!! Stay warm girls, Mary
-
Hi--All my ladies came back to work so yesterday I went to work at 7:30 and got off at 3:30. Today it was 5:30 when I left, but still I got to come home in the Daylight!!!! The cat and dog almost went into shock. They don't usually see me in the daylight. Oh, yesterday was a total whiteout blizzard most of the day and the roads are snowpacked and icy, but beyond that.....My neighbor plowed out my lane before I could leave yesterday and this morning. It keeps blocking in where it takes the corner and the big snowbank from this winter has never fully melted even when we had those few days of warm weather. Tomorrow is Parent Teacher Conferences so there is no school. That means that we will have THOSE BIG KIDS all day. We usually just have them before school and after the after/school program on most days. They are much harder to keep entertained than our infants and toddlers. So I put up a sign that asked all parents to make sure they sent their kids with snowpants, hats, mittens, etc tomorrow because we're going outside a couple of times even if we have to tie ropes around all of us to keep from getting lost. I have my snowpants in the jeep already and my Stacy who just got back from California and has a sunburnt nose is going to bring her winter survival gear tomorrow too. Hopefully the sun will shine at some point. I think the weather report looks promising, but I don't trust those guys very much. We got a 6 week old baby who just started yesterday. He's so cute and so tiny and takes one caregiver mostly for his own little self. PJ--Glad you made it back with no broken bones and good work with the scoop and ski with the little boy. Gosh, poor Nathan. Mary, I have a ton of things that need fixed around my ranch and we won't even go into how many things need repaired at the daycare. BUT, I don't think we could afford to have your toolman/trucker/drivethemarycrazy handyman visit us. Hi, Renee. Gotta go. Happy Spring Everyone!!!!!! Life is Good--Smiles--NancyLee
-
Oh, Nancy, wish I could have a turn holding that little baby. They're so cute..... and that little baby smell....
Caught a break. Doc called and said the pathology on all the gunk they hauled out of me was normal, so no worry about further surgery. That's good, cause I'm a wimp. This simple laproscopic surgery has kicked my butt. I can only imagine how much I'd be whining with the full abdominal hysterectomy.
Hope you all are well.
Paula -
PJ--GREAT news on your path report. It's about time you caught a break. Really. And OH you are so right.....that little baby smell is heavenly. We had 46 kiddies at the daycare today..5 under 2 and 8 in diapers. That's the NOT so sweet smelling part of caring for infants!! I worked from 7:30 til 6:30 and am a little weary tonight. I made breakfast for 26, lunch for 32 and snack for 35. Talk about dishpan hands!!!!! Well, I'm off to take a long, hot shower and work out the kinks in my back. Tomorrow's Friday--YAY!! Life is Good--Smiles--NancyLee
-
Great Path news... so you had your ooph. Take your drugs, it helps. That anesthesia can kick the best of butts! We missed most of that snow Mary was talking about, but we had ice this morning on the roads. Good thing I don't have to leave the house till later when it should have all melted. Of course, if people would have a little patience while driving most wouldn't roll their car.. JMHO.
Had ladies night out at the bar last night. One of my friends sister-she's 38 or so, had a recurrence with her colon cancer.. spread to the pelvic lymph nodes and liver. She just stopped treatment 3 months ago- that sucks!
Make it a great day. Renee
Renee -
Hey Girls, Well, mom in law saw Dr. yesterday while I was getting treatment and they gave her maybe a year. Her daughter is trying to help her out which takes some responsibilty off me. Hubby is close to St. Louie so he should be home in a couple hours. He took a wrong turn and toured a new highway. He will learn... maybe, I hope, or maybe not. Its pretty exciting wondering where he is and helping him figure out where that might be. He doesn't have a GPS system yet but we are going to get that real soon. He can't drive and read a map. We will get to Springfield tomorrow. Best Buy is still closed from the twister so I guess Circuit City will have to do but they are usually a little higher. Have a great wk. end girls. Gotta get, Later Mary
-
I forgot today is Fri. and some little June Bunny had a birthday yesterday. I am calling you right now. Mary
-
Good morning girls, I am off to get the greatest GPS there is. Maybe I should just drive the hubby. Girls Janie sounds so young on the phone and so sweet you just want to hug her. Janie if I write a book I could call it the rebels, the yanks and the cowgirl. I don't know what they call Nancy's neck of the woods. I think of her as a cowgirl that could rope circles around any man or drive that jeep over any mountain. Are you a Yankie Nancy or is that just the north eastern and middle states? Guess I should have spent more time in Social Studies in school or opened that History book huh? I am ignorant, but I will forget in a few minutes and feel smart again. Well I will be back later. My youngest daughter from Az. is in Chicago for some Orthopedic thing with her man so other daughter and boys are going to see her today as she goes home to Az. tomorrow. I did not want to try to go because of the diarreha factor and 3 hours in a car. My sister and her 3 kids are going too. I will go to Az. later. I hated to run off and leave hubby too. Well beter get. Glad you had a great birthday Janie and we will all be around to wish you many more. Hugs, Mary
-
Mary,
The call was a great surprise last night! The caller ID said, "Unknown" but this time I picked up on the Yankee accent sooner than before. This voice has fooled many. I hope I continue to sound like this for the rest of my life, so I can fake people out when I'm in my 90's. Girls, Mary is just as funny on the phone as she is here. I was in stitches. As I told her, I had another surprise party at work! They put something on my calendar for noon and I was griping about having to deal with that person yet again. It turned out to be a nice buffet luncheon with a cake and balloons and the whole ball of wax. The SID/MOID class sung Happy Birthday and our precious Down's Syndrome child climbed into my lap. They were so sweet. Then, Thursday night, my personal kids took me to dinner and to a film festival with Robert Osbourne (Turner Classic Movies). He told us tidbits about the North by Northwest - Cary Grant movie we saw after the old timey newreels. It was a long movie. Some of the actors who will be in the movies playing for 3 or 4 days are there and in the audience. Patricia Neal was there and one of Scarlett's sisters from GWTW. Mickey Rooney was coming last night. RO interviewed the current AFI president after the movie. She had met Cary Grant. She said he looked into her eyes during the entire encounter and she melted. She said he did that with every woman he ever met. I can believe it. He was in his 80's when he died and he still had it going on -- very easy on the eyes. The Classic Center has a red carpet at the entrance. While waiting for Mark to pick up the tickets at the box office, I stood on the carpet and said, "I am wearing Armani." Traci said, "You are not, is it Wal-Mart or Target?" I replied, "Actually, I think it is Sears Roebuck, but it is so old I don't remember." However, it was not a paisely or flowered granny dress. I met 60 head-on in bright red, thank you very much. However, it was after midnight when I got home, so Cinderella was dragging her butt all day Friday.
PJ - great news!
Hey Renee and Nancy.
Hugs from the elderly, -
Janie: I bet you looked smashing in your red outfit! You go girl!! Happy Belated Birthday!!
I just got another sucky phone call.. another friend was diagnosed with Breast Cancer. Don't know the details yet. She's about 65, widowed and terrified.
Mary- hope you find a GPS that your hubby will be able to figure out! I hate to see him get lost because he won't learn how to operate that gadget- maybe he isn't as stubborn as some other guys and may read the directions.
Hey Paula and Nancy Lee
renee -
Janie, the lady in red. Sounds like a great birthday. The film thing sounds very interesting.
Renee, sorry to hear about your friend. I swear, it's like an epidemic. A friend's sister in law was also just diagnosed, apparently with some rarer kind of bc. Just awful.
Mary, see if he can find his way home with the gps from the store. if not, maybe you can return it...
hey to nancy lee, freezing out on the prairie. well, ok, not the prairie, but at least THAT rhymes with lee. sort of....
went out and about today. pain's much less so long as i don't move. have to head out tomorrow in our continuing search for new shoes for nathan, who seems to outgrow them in about a month. tried soaking the nails in knox gelatin. we'll see if that works. over a week until my next doctor's appt! yippee...
have a good sunday all,
paula -
Good morning girls, I have to get busy as Open House today. It is wet out from the 6 or 8 inches of snow thats melting quickly and (I have white carpet). P.J., now don't get so upset about Nathan outgrowing his shoes so quickly. I don't think making him Jello with nails in it is appropriate. Growing happens. Well hubby just called and is on the way to the hosp. with his mom who is on Tarceeba(no idea) and she hasn't been eating or drinking. I have to get the house ready for viewing so gotta go. Hugs, Mary
-
Hey ladies,
I am battling a sore throat -- always something it seems, but I know we are supposed to try to keep our immune systems up, so I will be doing the regimen. I already have antibiotics on hand.
Mary -- I hope your MIL does well today or is at least comfortable, and that the open house brings in a buyer, muddy shoes and all.
Renee -- Like PJ said, there seems to be an epidemic. A former counselor at our school was just diagnosed. I am guessing she is in her 30's. I hope they wipe this monster out sooner rather than later.
Mary - The Rebels, the Yanks, the Cowgirl, and the Sheepherder (is that one word or two?)
PJ- Nathan will probably take several more growing spurts before graduating high school. Don't buy too many things the same size at one time.
Have a pleasant Sunday ladies, -
Hi Girls, Just wanted to wish P.J. a speedy recovery. Hope all went well. Hugs, Mary
-
Thanks Mary, I'm feeling quite a bit better. How did the open house go? How's hubby doing?
Hi to Janie, Renee and Nancy Lee.
Not much else up here. Rain's coming down, and boy do we need it.
Paula -
Hi Girls,
We are having cool nights and mild days -- pretty nice actually. Good to hear you are doing better PJ. How is the MIL Mary? Hey to Renee and Nancy. -
Good evening little ladies. It is going to warm up or though they say. This damp weather is cold. Mom-in-law is doing good. We had to take her in to hydrate her Sun and Mon. Hope she stays that way for a while. She is going to get help from the local home health service. That helps me and her daughter. My finger tips are soo sore. I went to get my hair trimmed today and the gal must be blind in one eye and can't see out the other. I pointed a "do" out and it was shorter than my fro but still about to the bottom of my neck. I said I like my sides to go behind my ears. S*#t, I don't have to mess with that anymore. My hair is short, really short. I just seem to attract crazy people with no talent. I have never been there before as it is new. I kinda like my short as heck hair but it is different. My hair was getting to my shoulders almost. It was so curley though in places and straight esle where, I couldn't do anything with it and it just went all funky on me and I walked around like it was suppose to be that way. It is o.k. but it is nothing, not a strand like I picked out. Why do hair people do that? You pick out a "do" and they just "do" what they want. I think they each know one cut and everyone gets that cut. Oh well, It could be worse, I could be bald. Heck I almost am!!!!Only Me....Glad your doing good P.J. Janie you little Georgia peach you. My sister in law lived in Ga. on the golf course where they play the Masters for years then came home a few years ago.(Divorce)Well better get. Hi to Rene and Nancy lee who is no doubt plowing through ten ft. snow in that jeep. I have a neighbor thats going for 4th. A/C this Fri. so I am going to bake a spice cake and take down. I could eat that and kinda taste it so hope she can too. Hugs, Mary
