    HI Dee,

I have read that those things can be a factor, however I know when that don't have kids that don't have breast cancer.  I have two kids and got bilateral breast cancer.  There are many things that they say may be attributed to it, but there is no real link to anything that causes cancer.  There are woman here that have lived their lives in many different ways and still here we are together fighting this beast.  I truly believe it is just a crap shot as to who gets it and who doesn't.

    Keep laughing,

    Jenny

Jenny is exactly right.  While lots of different things have been identified as being risk factors for breast cancer, no one knows why any one woman develops breast cancer and another woman doesn't.  Just because something is a risk factor for the population at large doesn't mean that it will be a risk factor for you.  And the fact is that there are lots of women who have a long list of BC risk factors who will never get BC and there are many other women who have no significant risk factors who will be diagnosed.  So it really is a crap shoot.  And, if you look at the list of risk factors from the Komen site, you'll see that "being female" is the number one risk factor.  There's not much any of us can do about that!   http://cms.komen.org/komen/AboutBreastCancer/RiskFactorsPrevention/index.htm

If you have a number of signficant risk factors that moves you into the "high risk" category, then it's important to work with a doctor to set up an enhanced screening program and at that point, other options might be considered, such as taking anti-hormone drugs (Tamoxifen).   But unless you are high risk, normal annual screening and monthly BSEs is usually all that's recommended.

    Thanks for the links.....

The "taller" you are... the greater chance of getting breast cancer. Now, come on... give us a break! I have never heard of such a thing.

    Geez.... we're screwed!

I agree with Jenny, breast cancer comes in all shapes, sizes and colors.  Healthy eaters, unhealthy eaters etc....... Some of us have cells that just "go rogue."  I quit trying to figure out why I got it and started concentrating on fighting it and doing what I can to make myself healthier. Like Jenny said, "It's a crapshoot."
