Valerie-yes, Im one of those nasty smokers
. Before bc I was only smoking about 4 a day and the following Monday was MY DAY!!!! Well, considering Im smoking 1/2 pack or more somedays now you can see what BC did with my stop smoking theory!!!! Im weining myself down again so have a quit date of Aug. 1st
.
Im soooooooo jealous of Sheila, Brenda and YOU Valerie, I SOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO WANNA GO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Blue-I think we ALL wanna be the sexy lady!!! But since you found it first we will let you be her for awhile but I think we each need a turn to be the HOT BABE!!!!! So you gotta play nice and share that hunky guy too
Nikki-Im at work again and cant see your youtube thing but it will be the very 1st thing I do when I get home today!!!!!!!
Bin-the tatoo guy, Im brain fried this morning....if you two grandmothers are sisters then what does that make the two of you? Cousins?
I like tattoos but am a baby
.....I dont have any other than the 4 that they poked me with for rads. The one in the middle of my boobs shows if I wear too low of a cut shirt but I think Im probably the only one that notices....I told my daughter that I was going to have a happy face tatooed over it so it just peaked out......she didnt think I was being very funny, you should have seen her face
..she is so fun to tease.....
Well, its Friday and I need to finish a couple of things before my day ends in 7 1/2 hrs so that I can enjoy my weekend at least feeling like I got SOMETHING accomplished for the week!!!!!
Im sure I will be checking back in later-but you ladies all have a wonderful day!!!!
Jule

Susan ... here's the Brenda's I know:
BinVA - Bren aka Brenda in VA
Naniam - Brenda in North Carolina
BMD - Brenda in San Diego
I think there are a couple more Brenda's on the board, just not sure who those gals are!!
Hi Jule ... I smoke too. I've never tried to quit. Haven't met the tattoo guy/cousin yet. What a hoot that will be. Maybe he'll discount my tattoo! And yes, they hurt ... probably why I haven't gotten another one yet. The big one on my lower back hurt.
Bren

I am just happy to get the finishing touch tattoo. My foobs are kind-of numb so I don't feel that much when they are working on the areolas. My hubby got a beautiful pink ribbon on his arm last year for my birthday with my name over the top, my wife-my hero under and the year on the tail of the ribbon. People love the meaning of that tattoo. He said that it was his first and last.
Sheila
-
Sheila-it warms my heart to hear that story about your husband and his tatoo.......that is what "real" love is
Bin-Let us know about your cousin and the tatoo!!!! What are you thinking of having?
Well, Im still at work, have 4 1/2 hrs left to go and STILL havent accomplished a single thing...I think its just gonna be one of those weeks.
Jule
-
I don't have a tattoo yet, but have been seriously considering it. I'm the only one in the family without one, but I'm pretty chicken about the pain. I really think I would like to have one on the top of my foot, but everyone tells me that's the most painful place. My original plan was to have one done for my 50th birthday. Well, I was dx'd 2 weeks before that birthday so a tattoo swiftly went to the bottom of my list. Now I'm thinking I'd like to get one done when I've got everything healed and have finished treatment.
Anyone have one on their foot? Did it hurt really, really bad? With everything I've been through the last 3 1/2 months, you'd think I wouldn't be afraid of a little pain, LOL!
Jule - Good luck with quitting smoking. I did it last year and it's so hard. I smoked for 30+ years and quit cold turkey. One piece of advice I got was to drink lots of water to flush your body. I do think it helped.
-
Can I go home now?????? Work has been the pits today.....everything and every deadline that could appear has!!!!!!! and I STILL havent finished a single thing!!!!! This week has felt like a week of Mondays all wrapped into one!!!!! K....enough whinning.....Im stuck here until 3 p.m. so only 2 1/2 more hrs to go
and its the WEEKEND!!!!!!
Sam-it is kind of odd how we went through so much and can still be afraid to get something as simple as a tatoo isnt it......I wear an ankle bracklet and always have thought I wanted a permanent tattooed one but everyone tells me that area hurts like heck too.....the less meaty area the more pain is what Ive been told...Im such a whimp.....
Thanks for the hint on the water, but dang if I drink any more Im gonna float away!!!!!! Ive always drank alot of liquids but since being dx'd and during rads I found that I almost crave just plain cold, ice water....
Im determined that by August 1st I will be down from 1/2 pack a day to 3 or 4 so that I can just stop.....I have patches and commit lozengers that my insurance company sent to me from their Stop Smoking Program but I dont see the point in using that type of stuff....what are your thoughts on stuff like that???
Jule
-
along with 9 very nice dots given to me by my very nice rads tech these are my other tattoos
the flowers are on top of my right foot one each for my three kids, my mom, and my dh...the dragonfly is on my right ankle for my dad ...and the heart i got on my left breast on my 20th wedding anniversary...prio to getting breast cancer in the same breast...they say they are addicting i am thinking about 1 more on my left ankle when i start dancing with NED maybe a nice little pink ribbon with the words F**K CANCER...LOL probably just the ribbon though i dsont think i am that daring...
thanks for the pic posting tip binVA ...obviously it helped
-
Jule, If I can't go home, you can't go home! I have to stay until 5:00 eastern. just one more hour. Orders are so slow today that this afternoon has lasted a week long.
I am not planning on getting any other tattoos than the ones from the ps and Earleen. I am too chicken to get one that people would actually see
.
Sheila
-
I hearby give everyone having a bad day at work my express permission to go home. Just tell your boss I said so....LOL See how far THAT gets you.
I hope your day goes fast at work ladies
Deb C
-
Ha ha Sheila, Deb says I can go home
.......not sure my boss is going to care one way or the other what Deb says but I would sure try it IF he were here......goofy man has been gone more this week that he's been here...thats part of the reason its been so hectic!!!! But it is ok....Im going to go on vacation and he can take care of my stuff...although that is a scarey thought too!!! He use to do my job here but since Ive taken over Ive also taken on alot of projects that he knows nothing about so when Im out of the office he quakes in his boots.....not that I get any enjoyment out of that or anything
Susan-your tats are cool!!!!! You are a WAY braver woman that me!!!!!!
I know what you both mean about being too daring...if I really did it Im sure I wouldnt be bold enough to have that little
guy peeking over the edge....but it sure would be cute....maybe I could have one like this
....now wouldnt that be provocative!!!!!! I think my daughter would disown me over that!!!!!

My boss left at 11:00 am. I am by myself in the department all afternoon on Friday's. The rest of my department works 7-4 m-th and 7-11 on F. I work 8-5 m-f because I am on the switchboard and someone has to be here to answer the phone. though we are trying to work out a change of schedule for me to work 7-4 m-f so I have an extra hour off in the afternoon to do my running. When I was out last year with my surgery for 5 weeks, they had to totally change everyones schedule to cover my jobs.
Sheila
-
Thats kind of where Im at too....since Im the office manager here I do most all of the office stuff so whenever Im gone things get out of control sometimes.
They all did really well here last year when I was out for surgeries and such and were a wonderful source of support for me.
Im trying to convince the powers above that we need to work 4 10-days here as some of my co-workers drive 35 miles one way and are feeling the pinch of the gas pricing here. Am keeping my findgers crossed that I can make it happen.
Well since its 1:45 and there isnt much going on Ive decided Im heading out the door at 2 today
...I am very lucky to have a job that I can pretty much do as I like.....my boss is really cool as he knows that if I leave early my job is done b-4 I go out the door.
Plus my sweetie called a bit ago and is coming home for the weekend.....he's been gone all week and will be gone several weeks this next go round
.....
Will probably be off line until late Sunday so will check in then.........Hope y'all have a wonderful weekend....

OK! Im so out of time. TGIF cause I can sit down tomorrow morning and read everything I have missed all week. Im bowing my head in shame. Smoked 2 cigarettes today. I think Im hopeless.
Catch up with ya'all in the morning. And sending lots of hugs and love your way.

Hi to you,Nicki! I love Dionne Warwick and wasn't Whitney Houston so young and lovely on the clip? Miss hearing Luther Vandross,too...what a wonderful voice and great singer! Hope that your wkend goes well. Thanks for the pics and the neat songs. Yep,I love all those oldies and saw one with Donna Summer the other day...wow,hard to believe it has been that many yrs...she looks great!
Hi Jule...good to see you and you are in the Seattle area, right?
Sheila/lvtwoquilt...hi to you! I love your area as I lived in Marion as a child not so far from Asheville. I have bn in Raleigh many yrs now. I have read your posts and glad to "meet"!
Deb...glad that you are feeling better today. Your dinners and your descriptions of Alaska are so nifty. I know that you must have a beautiful area.
Hi Susan...nifty tatoos...neat to read abt the explanations of each and great colors.
Sheila...cool avatar...love chocolate, too esp the milk chocs. I know the dark has so much more of the things we hear are beneficial. The milk choc is my favorite,of course...LOL
Bren...neat abt meeting people who are related...small world.
Hi to everyone I missed as I am only on this page and will go back and catch-up. Just wanted to say hi! I got a good deal on my new camera at Best Buy. I was so excited that they did a price match and gave me credit as the price had dropped in the short time since purchasing it. Yeah! What a nice Saturday as I celebrated two major doctor's visits done this week!!! I had been delaying that internist appt as I knew it was going to be more meds and lots more weight gained. Whoopee,I went and had my fave receptionist...probably hear me cheering all the way to another planet that I have eight wks to get the cholesterol down before next blood work and visit again...will do my best to not remember what junk food tastes like...good luck to me! So,got two more meds to remember to take now...will do like my mother and make a list to check-off as I forget to take them. Could have been lots worse and glad my internist has a new baby girl named Caroline as he was in a great mood!
Have a great Sun everyone!

Hi Iris!!
I lost a whooping ONE pound when I was weighed on Friday at my doctors!! They're instructed not to tell me my weight and I won't look at the scale. They are allowed to tell me if I lost any and how much. This was a first!! I'm 30 lbs over. I got another med too. Now I have two for my allergies ... and I know you can sympathize with this!
Well .. another hot humid day in the south!
Hi Everybody ... don't remember what we were talking about ... tattoos, junk food, dinner in Alaska and a baby girl named Caroline?
Hugs to you Iris and all the hijackers!
-
OMG! Im inbetween my shower and drying my hair. Sure hate Mondays.
Iris: So good to see you. Hope those doctor appointments went well. I see my onc today! Drats about the weight gain! Sending a bug hug to you.
Hello to everyone else. I gotta go fix my hair and off to work. Have an absolutely wonderful day.
Nicki
-
Good Monday morning to all Hijackers!!!! Hopefully it will be a better week than last week (not that last week was bad, but it is summer ya know!!)
Iris-Hello, nice to meet you...I have seen you on other threads but not sure we have actually talked between the two of us....No Im on the other side of the state from Seattle.....in the southeastern corner of the state between Oregon and Idaho.
Nicki-Im going to attempt to quit smoking too....Ive been weining myself down to less smokes each day and hope to actually throw them out the door Aug 1.....
Bin-I have some extra weight but since it is summer the weight part seems to be going down but the rolls in the wrong places arent going away!!! Gotta figure out something about that issue!!!!!! I normally gain a few pounds in the winter as Im not as physically active and was hoping that was the weight issue but I also had a hysterectomy a little over a year ago so I think that is part of it now too. Kind of sucks, get rid of the nasty estrogen that was fueling my bc to trade it off for added weight....Oh well, guess I shouldnt whine about the weight as I would rather have it than the BC any day!!!!!!!!! But it doesnt mean I have to like it
... I like your idea about no one telling me my weight...Im going to do that at my docs office too....thanks for the tip.
Well, its Monday morning and I need to see what emails work has brought and deal with whatever I need to.....
BBL for sure!!!!
Jule
-
Jule: Today will be my make or break day. I want a cigarette so bad! Sucking on a mint right now. Good luck - on August 1st.
Gotta go - Im am work, like my new office cause I was able to sneak in.
Nicki
-
Jule - Sorry I didn't respond sooner, I was gone for the weekend. Since you're already drinking so much water, that tip may not help you. I think it helped me cuz I was in the bathroom so much I didn't have time to think about smoking, LOL! I've never tried the patches or lozenges so I can't comment. My dh did have a script for Welbutrin when we quit, but he didn't stick with it. He still smokes anytime I'm not around. Having quit several times, I think the biggest obstacle to get over is just getting your mind set. I picked up a booklet at the cancer center and the advice in it was to start thinking of yourself as a non-smoker. So when you want a cig, you just need to remind yourself that you're a non-smoker and all the things you like about being a non-smoker. I thought it was a pretty good tip.
I actually lit a cig this weekend after consuming too much Barcardi, but after 2 drags decided it tasted like crap and put it out. Figure if I can not smoke while I'm drinking, I must be done with it.
Hang in there Nicki -- I'm sending positive thoughts your way. It's so hard to give up something you enjoy.
Susan - Thanks for the pics, they are really pretty. Well this weekend my SIL showed up at our lakehouse sporting a tattoo on her upper arm. It was a little cherub with her son's name under it (he was killed a few years ago). She was the last person I would've ever expected to see with a tat, so now I'm feeling the pressure to go through with mine. I want to wait until all my tx is over and then I've got a picture of a butterfly with the body being a pink ribbon picked out. Did the one on your foot hurt really bad? That's where I want mine and people keep advising me against it.
-
My dh was given a script for welbutrin because he was having panic attacks and he 'said' he wanted to quit smoking and it did not stop him smoking. The insurance would not pay for smoking cessasion medications then (about 5 yrs ago) but would pay for the medicine for panic attacks. He has since then been forced into a job change and he has stopped having the panic attacks (job stress related) and has also stopped taking the welbutrin but still smokes at least a carton a week. He also tried the patches but smoked while they were on against the package directions.
I think as Sheila(Sam) said you need to start thinking of yourself as a non-smoker.
I went swimming for the first time this year since all my surgeries have been completed. We were at my mil's house and pool, got a mild sunburn on my face, upper chest, and shoulders. Although it did feel good to get in the water.
Sheila

Ok, I think I have gotten everything done for the day here with an 1 hr and 1/2 to spare, so now I can play here with you ladies.
I have tons of smoking cessasion stuff my insurance company keeps sending me but if I can do this without using any of that I would prefer it.....I love raw carrots so have an entire drawer full of those little baby carrot packages and am continuously munching on them.....I think my biggest fear about stop smoking is the potential weight gain...I know crazy, crazy, crazy, but I am really short and 3 or 4 pounds on me make me look like a walking, talking marshmellow!!!!!!
On the good side of things-my sweetie was home for the weekend (out of town with work for the next couple of months) and we drove to the mountains to look at a property that we would like to purchase, then spent the day looking, walking and just spending quiet time together up there...it was wonderful.
I havent gone swimming yet this year at all....I enjoy fishing and Ive only done that once this year as well.....it seem that between work, taking care of a 1/4 acre of property and my sweetie I just have had the time this year, but thats ok....I like the way my life is progressing to the AFTER BC stage
.
Jule
-
Jule,
Good luck with quitting smoking!!It IS good that you are NOW living your life, AFTER BC!!!
Harley
-
quiting smoking is not the easiest thing in the world to do i did it several times...finally quit in july 1993 right after being told my mom had lung cancer threw away an entire pack ( but they oinly cost $2.50 then)...havent picked one up since although there are times when i am bowling with a beer in my hand and it still feels like something is missing ...sam408--the tat on my foot wasnt that bad pushing three children out of my body was a lot more painful then you figure all that we have been thru with bs and a tattoo is a walk in the park LOL...in reality it does get a little sore after they have been working on it a while because they have to keep going back over it in someplaces...first the outline gets done then the shading if its not too huge it should hurt less they are fun though will get one more after i start dancing with NED cant wait!!!
-
Jule -- If it helps, I didn't gain any weight after quitting. In fact, I'm a little lighter now than I was last year. You've got the right idea with the carrots, just don't replace the cigs with the wrong stuff and you'll be OK. I think you'll be better off if you can do it without the helpers from your ins co. Seems like the people I know who've used it have a harder time staying off the cigs after they give up the helpers. I figured my body might as well get used to it right from the start. Plus, I would've had to purchase it and that stuff ain't cheap! You'd think with as much hype as there is out there for not smoking, they would make quitting more affordable.
I think if you try going cold turkey and are having a hard time of it, then use the stuff. The main goal is to quit and if the helpers get you through it, then that's the way to go.
So, you and your sweetie are looking at property. . .does that mean this relationship is moving toward a more permanent stage or did I miss that post? Hope that's what's happening, you deserve it.
-
I saw my onc - and yes I smoked today. Right back into it after 2 weeks! Im tired and will check in tomorrow. If your curious what my onc said, check out "Time to Circle The Wagons." I dont have the energy to type it twice. My oncs scale showed I gained wt instead of losing 10 pounds like I thought. Dang scale at home is broken - or possessed!
Hugs to everyone.
Nicki
-
Don't beat yourself up Nicki. I can't even count the number of times I quit and restarted. Once after not smoking for a year! Sorry about the weight, that sucks.
-
Sheila: Im so crazy right now I typed stuff all over and dont even know what Im writing. I think Im gonna go trake a xanax and hit my bed.
Nicki
-
Nicki -- I read your post on the circle thread. Damn girl, what a lousy day you had. Everything's gonna turn out all right, I just feel it. Big Hugs!!
-
Nicki,
I read that post also, and I can only imagine how stressful this is (no wonder you smoked again!). I am sending good healing vibes your way, that this will all be okay. I was really stressed out because my liver panel was highly elevated, and had to have a CT scan last week.Well, I had the worst feeling these past few days, but saw the dr today, and my liver is normal! So, I want the same results for you....normal! What you are having is more stressful than what I had, but we are all circling around you, and giving you comforting hugs! Hope the xanax works and you can get a good nights sleep. Nitey night!
Wishing you the best,
Kathy
