    Hi Red,

I have DCIS and they didn't get clean margins.  After the lumpectomy in April, I don't like how I look and if I decided to have another lumpectomy (leaving me with even less of a breast) and they didn't get clean margins, they would have to do a mastectomy.  My plastic surgeon told me that radiation makes reconstruction very difficult because it takes away the elasticity of the skin.   Because there is another tiny something that also showed up in my last MRI which they would have to remove in another area, mastectomy was recommended.  My surgery will be on Aug. 7th and I'm terrified but I should have good results after reconstruction.

This website is so helpful!  I'll pray for clean margins for you!

How do you calculate the size of the margins

If they sais 10 mm doest this mean 5 mm one side and 5 to the other side?

    or they mean 10+10 =20.

    I find this too large.

I had the second surgery and the result from marginis came out.

    there are only normal cells!

but I am not so happy because at the margins where the glue was for the transparent material to protect against the water I have a blister of 1 cm dia. and I have some liquid .

I got antibiotics oral and loca.

i am not happy with this!

    Hi, Red Bubbles:

Like you, I was in my early 40's when I was diagnosed, no family history of cancer and never took a birth control pill.  Due to my age, I followed my doctor's recommendation in getting a BRCA1/BRCA2 genetic test just to make sure there are no mutated genes.  Good luck to you.
