Debbie, I am offline every weekend and it takes me a while to catch up.
I also live about 75 miles from Biltmore, I have been several times since we moved to NC in 1975 but never at Christmas. Went to Linville Gorge/falls several years ago and to the Linville caverns with the youth group from church. Had lesson about Jonah and the great fish before going in the caves. Made the trip fun.
Over the weekend I jamed my foot under the edge of the couch and tore my big toenail half way off. Almost had to wear flip-flops to work, but found sandles that I could wear.

OUCH Sheila! I tore my big toe nail off on a shopping cart one time and it's never been the same since. Don't think Target has been the same either since this lunatic woman with blood gushing out of her toe made her way to the bandaid isle and just ripped open a package to use, LOL! I did buy the package after I calmed down, but boy did that hurt.
Hope your day was smoke free Nicki. I was told to drink lots of water to flush the nicotine out of my system and it seemed to help. Course, I had to pee every five minutes so I didn't have time to smoke! Hang in there.
Good luck Debbie. You sound like me, stopping and starting. Once I quit for a year and went back to them, could've really kicked myself. So I know having just a year down doesn't get me out of the woods yet, but I'm determined to do it this time.
I went to Biltmore when I was living in NC. What a beautiful place. I also visited Reynolda House in Winston-Salem and it's pretty impressive too. Not like Biltmore, but still pretty cool and the gardens are pretty. A lot of the buildings on the grounds have been turned into little shops and restaurants, so it's a nice little place to visit. Unbelievable how rich these families were!
Unbelievably hot today, but I've got a hankering for some brats so I'm headed to the grill despite the heat.
-
The good part is the toenail is still in place so it is protecting the nailbed, so it doesn't hurt too bad (I had some vicoden left from last year), the bad news is I can only get the flat white strappy sandles on and I have limited clothes I can wear to work that look good with the flat white sandles, most of my slacks are longer and require a little bit of heel to keep from draging.

Hi: Im home late - not too busy here today. First day back wasnt as bad as I thought it would be.
Debbie: Quitting smoking is one of the hardest things to do. And Im so weak without any will power. Today was very hard cause I do most of my smoking where I drive. Did 100 miles today. Same thing happened to me with a cough. Got bronchitis and had that cough for at least 2 months.
Hello to everyone else. Gotta go - no computer time tonight.

there's no where else to put this...so I'm highjacking....I just read on another thread that your finger nails can fall out doing Taxol!!! WTF...that is the grossest thing I have ever heard! I'd rather walk around with no teeth than no fingernails! How the heck am I supposed to work (type) if my nails get sore??? Why is it that I am on my last does of AC getting ready to do my Taxol before I hear of this loverly side effect? E GADS....I want off this ride
oh, HI everyone! sorry for the interruption...please go back to your regularly scheduled program!
-
I'm so grateful I didn't have chemo. My biggest fear is the cancer will come back and I'll have to go through that.
Maybe you'll be lucky ... and you won't lose any nails. I'm a transcriptionist, how could I work without my nails??
Don't want to lose any teeth either!!
Rather be on an "E" ride at Disneyland wouldn't ya!
-
flrzffan, the same thing can happen on Taxotere. I had my nails loosen from the bed. You could tell by all the white on them. I kept them very short so I would not catch them on anything. I have very strong hard nails and they grow really fast (even on chemo) so I cut them every week. They are now almost back to normal after 4 months. I got everySE that Taxotere had to dose out to the max. It was the worst drug ever! But I did not lose my nails so I am assuming that is very rare.
To those of you who almost lost toenails. I big OUCH! Just stubbing it is bad enough. I did have a friend who lost a toenail and bought a set of fake nails and glued one on her toe.
I am going to try to do some gardening and grocery shopping. I am having to find dishes to w/ tomatoes as our tomatoes are really coming in now. I will probably be putting a bunch up this weekend. My hollyhocks have come to seed. They are a very old variety and very hardy. If anyone would like some seeds, PM your address and I will mail you some. They grow very tall and look good along a back fence. They do not do well in an open garden as they have a tendacy to fall over. Here is what they look like.

Not much time, other than to say hello. Wishing you all a wonderful day.
Hijack: Going back to work - stinks! But I will find some time, I promise.
Nicki

Debbie Love the flowers. I wish I had a place to plant them.
Nicki, I just got to work! and I agree it stinks. I will check back later.

Sheila: A big hello to you. Got home and jumped in the pool. 90 degrees and hot/humid here in Chicagoland. Regarding work? Another day, another dollar makes me scream and want to holler.
A big hello to everyone else and hope you have a wonderful evening. I need to go figure out what Im gonna have for dinner. Im on South Beach - so pasta isnt allowed. I ask myself why I ate that pasta salad for lunch today. Was it because it was all pretty colors and I felt well that must be healthy? Ya know spinach, squash, and other veggies used to make it look so pretty. Well gosh darn - I ate a big bowl!
Have a wonderful evening.

It sounds like several of you ladies have made it past the finish line with it so Im gonna be pounding on your door asking how you did it!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I truely enjoy all the pics here.....I live in podunk nowhere so there isnt anything for me to post as far as local attraction. I grew up here and love living here but when I see you ladies talking about meeting up and having "real" time together it makes me wish I lived in one of the those pictures!!!! I seem to be a lone duck here in podunk nowhere....I have talked with others in my state, but they are all on the other side of the state
Well gotta run......the tax payers really do pay me to work I suppose
Everyone have a wonderful day!!!!

jule, you are welcome to hijack this thread whenever you want. I wish my hubby would quit smoking, but I don't see that happening any time soon
. We had made an agreement when we got married 12 yrs ago that when I got my degree from college he would quit smoking, I got my degree about 10 yrs ago and he is still smoking.
I am meeting Naniam (Brenda) Monday night for supper and to give her some left-over yarn from earlier projects to take to pinkstock next week for the afghan project. She lives about 20 miles from me and we meet in Hickory which is about half way between. This will be our second meeting. I am also meeting AnneW from Colorado next month when she comes home to NC and visits her father. She saw that I lived in the foothills of NC and asked where specifically I lived. come to find out she grew up in Caldwell County and the organist at my church was her math teacher in high school. talk about small world.
I also gotta get back to work.

I heard from Shel ... she's doing okay. I'll tell her you were looking for her over here.
Zweeb -- Hi Susan ... There are instructions and I'll find them for you!
BRB
Susan, try this link. If it doesn't work ... go to the Wagon Circle thread in the Circle the Wagons Moving Beyond forum. Look on page Two. It's a separate thread created by Peter. Let me know if you need some help.
Love,

Shelia ... I can't believe you're having lunch with Brenda on Monday ... I'm so jealous. Wish I wasn't 2 hours away ... I'd drive down to Hickory. I'd love to talk to you about being a "trucker's wife." Tim's company is out of NC near you. Maybe when AnneW comes out we can all four meet up down your way!
-
I know that Anne and I are meeting in Morganton on the 12th to go to Asheville to see Earleen (makeupchicknc) about tattoos. We had not thought of a group get together.
who does your dh drive for? my dh drives for a company out of Shelbyville TN but hub in Statesville.
Sheila
-
Hi Sheila,
I'll PM you info on Tim's company. Tim's dropyard is in Martinsville, which is about 10 miles from us. He's from Hickory originally. We lived just south of Statesville for about a year in Huntersville. Too crowded for me!
The tattoos sound like a blast!! You guys will have loads of fun. I want another one and was doing some checking around here ... and guess what I found out ... speaking of a small world ... the best guy around is in Roanoke, and our grandmothers are sisters!!!
Bren
PS - Guess I hijacked this thread!!
-
Our tattoos are finishing touches on recon
not the fun type
as if any tattoo is fun. Earleen is touching up the tattoo from my ps and Anne wants to meet her and see if she likes Earleen's work.
we sure did hijack this thread - husbands jobs and tattoos.
sheila

My turn to hijack now -
Sheila & Brenda - I can't believe you two are meeting. Funny how I know you both but from different threads. Have a drink for me!! ENJOY!!
Jule - YOU SMOKE??? How come I didn't know this?? Shame on you! Don't you love it when an ex-smoker puts there 2 cents in. Seriously, good luck with quitting - Bill & I quit on the same day - 18 years ago - if we can do it you sure can.
Anyway I have to go shovel - sure beats sitting around making fun of people - but then again, when that's all you have to do all day.......................................................
Valerie

A big hello and marking my spot. Home late and dont have much time.
Sheila: your meeting brenda? Im so jealous.
