We all need a hug as we go thru this journey.  I came up with the idea of a 'hug quilt'.  The concept is much like a cookie exchange.  If you would like to participate, please let me know in a Private Message.  On Aug. 2, I will count the number of quilters and decide the size of square that each person will cut, how many and the type of fabric coloring; for example, florals/solids/tone-on-tone.  I will post the info at this site, the Quilters!!!! thread at DCIS, and at the Crafty thread.  Each person will send all their squares to me by August 18 and then I, as 'stackmaster' (thanks Sandy for the name) will mail everyone 1 each of the squares.  You can then finish them as you wish.

I just did a runner using 5x5 charm squares and it finished up really quickly.  The amount of participants we get will determine the size of the blocks.

Once it is completed, as we wrap ourselves in it, we can feel the love from each of the sisters that took the time to cut the squares.  I'm going to try to write a message on each of the squares.  If you do that, iron on a piece of freezer paper on the back to make it stiff to write on and use one of the permanant Micron pens.  They tend not too run.  Do not use a ballpoint pen.

So far I have 4 replies.  If you know of any quilters that might be interested, would you please contact them?  If I don't get enough of a response by 8/2, I'll just drop the idea as I will be having my mast w/recon on 8/4.

Thanks and God bless each one of you.

Wendy

I have not been on the computer for the last few days.  Just too painful to sit up.  Got my steriod injections today & that should help, especially w/having to sleep on my back for a month after surgery.

I have 5 quilters that have expressed interest in the 'hugs quilt'.  I was sure there would be more quilters out there and am not sure what to do.  I have set Sat at the deadline so I could get the info out before Monday so I guess there is still time to respond.  I know one lady had fabric but didn't have a sewing machine so I told her I would sew it up for her.  Please, if you would like to participate, let me know.  We all need a hug!

    Hi LuAnnH,

"Quilting" actually is a process of 3 steps.  The first is to create a top layer.  This can be done by sewing pieces of fabric together in a pattern or by creating a pattern w/stitches on a solid piece of fabric.  I would like to use squares that each of us would contribute.  Once the top is put together, the top, a layer of batting, and another piece of fabric are layered together, like a sandwich.  Once that is done, then comes the quilting, that is sewing the three pieces together.  This can be done w/a sewing machine or by hand.  I've done some small things by hand but mostly use the sewing maching.  When I did the runner w/the squares, I just stitched diaganally across the rows of squares.  It went together really fast.  If a person knows how to sew, they can quilt.

Are you interested in participating in the 'hugs' quilt?  Sewing the squares together is a matter of maintaining an accurate 1/4" seam allowance.  If you would like to take part, please let me know and we would be happy to have you.  It would mean cutting out and sending me the number of squares of fabric we need.  Each of us will contribute fabric and I will send everyone some of each of the submissions.  Sorta like a cookie exchange.

Hope this helped.  I used to sew all my own clothes long time ago and started quilting after visiting great-aunts in Utah.  I've ben able to take some classes and love to use my creations.  They also make great gifts.  Hope to hear from you.

Today is the deadline for the 'hugs' quilt.  Right now we have 6 who wish to participate so it will mean we will each have to contribute quite a few squares.  I'll contact everyone tomorrow.

Please let me know if you would like to connect with each other in a tangible way w/this quilt.
