Heirlooms
I want to start a family heirloom for my boys. Sure there are things that have been in my family for years (handmade quilts, china, iron post beds, etc.). Frankly, my kids aren't interested in any of them. I want to create a family heirloom that can be handed down to my grandkids and so on that are from me (personally). My son wants a new bedroom suite. Any other suggestions of heirlooms that you've started for your family or that's been passed down to you? God is able, stephanie

Steph, Can't think of anything right at the moment, but I will try to figure something out for you. You are such an inspiration to us all, with your faith and your love for God and the way you share it with us. Have you done any scrapbooking? I tried to do one once and did a few pages, but two years later it is still unfinished. I paint flowers on rocks, big rocks and little ones. I will try to think of something and let you know. I hope you are feeling well and I am glad to know that there is "still some fight in the dog". I am praying for you and your family every day and want you to know I love you. Even though we have never met, you are someone special. Thank you for everything. Love, Bonny

well i actually talked about this pre-bc. being the italian momma...my cooking is a favorite with family and friends (most of them anyway.) i've always said i was going to write a cookbook...no not for publishing...i'm not that good. just for family and friends. mostly because when i'm gone they will be able to find the recipes they like so much and the tips that they call me and ask all the time. even have the name...picked it out years ago. i just need someone to help me with the computer program as i'm not the most computer savey momma. and i do have 2 sons and they want it more than my daughter does lol. now with the mets dx i keep thinking i'd better move my itialian butt and get busy. maria

How about a shadow box? When my mother and grandmother passed, I got a few small personal items (watch, hand mirror, favorite earrings). My plan is to one day place them in separate shadow boxes. This can be passed on, and maybe added to over time. The boxes are small, the size of a 8" x 10" photo frame, so the youngsters (who don't quite understand the loss of a family member) may not be adverse to keeping it and saving for the next generation.
Also, my decorating theme is Africancentric (is that a word?). They are black and fit in perfectly with my theme.
Another idea I have on my to-do list, is a family quilt. You can iron family photos using special papers right onto the fabric. Since your kids are boys, how about ironing on their sports pictures, or them receiving a special award, etc.
One thing I regret is that when my other grandmother passed, I didn't get anything of hers. She had several of those old churns and other items I would kill for today.
Just a few ideas.

Jerseymaria,
The cookbook is a nice idea. I have my Moms cookbook. And I treasure it. It was a Blank recipe book that she hand wrote her favorite recipes in. I wish there were more recipes in it...Some of my favorites are not in it & I cant remember how they were made.
I have bought 2 blank books & I need to get filling them in with some of my & Our familys favorite recipes for my daughters.

For us, it's been jewlery. Y'know, special stuff that my grandmother, great grandmother and mother all actually wore. That stuff means the most from me because I know it meant a lot to them.
