Sheila, my mom told me to eat desert in the middle of your meal. That way you are not too full and can really enjoy it!
I am going to try the dryer sheet. I get eat alive everytime I go out in the garden in the evening.
I have some leftover Ravioli, but not enough for two. So I pulled some homemade lasagna out of the freezer to supplement and will have it with a salad. My husband said "Leftovers?" I told him "No, an Italian Medley"

-
Peggy--Good news on your friend. I love your happy dance guy.
-
For those of you who dont know the story - my DH left my laptop in a Walmart shopping cart! Now I have to share computer time with him! Makes me crazy. So Im sneaking in to say hello.
Peggy: That was a beautiful story about your friend. A miracle to look upon with a great big smile. Im so happy for his wife and you. Laughing that you brought back the prancer. Sure do love him. This is for you cause Im doing both right now.
Debbie: No no no you must eat the dessert first. Then your meal lol. Your Italian Medley sounds pretty darn good to me - I think I shall use that title when deemed necessary lol. BTW your garden is beautiful. Mine is crazy looking this year. Planted some different things and they all look funny together. I now have 17 new seedling snap dragons growing from the bees pollinating them.
Julie: I got a good visual of that wheat swaying in the wind. I love it when its golden brown and the sun is shining on it, giving it a golden haze! Gosh thats a pretty thought. Mix peas with any grain and you get a B vitamin you cant get from anywhere else! Legumes and grains - very healthy. Eggplant Parmesan is really easy. Ya need an egg dip - thats the most important part. Put parsley, black pepper, and grated (parmesan or romano cheese) in the dip. Cut your egg plant. Uses lightly seasoned bread crumbs. Dip the slices in the egg dip and then the bread crumbs, saute in olive oil and garlic. They dont have to be fully cooked. Just so the bread crumbs are browned. Layer in pan like lasagna. Cover with your favorite tomato sauce recipe. I like mine with chunky tomatoes. Top each layer with Mozzarella cheese and then bake for about 1 hour! Yummy yum yum! Have a nice salad with balsamic vinegar and you have a pretty healthy meal! You could also use the eggplant in place of noodles if you wanted lasagna without noodles!
Sheri: Hope Micah is enjoying his birthday. That pork butt sounds awesome. Making my mouth water. Its interesting you mentioned that play you were in. When I was swimming earlier I was thinking of you and thought when you would get involved in another play.
Sheila: haha looks like you and I agree about eating the dessert first!
Lynn: Which was your favorite movie. 'To Kill a Mocking Bird" with Gregory Peck, or "The Good, The Bad, and The Ugly"
Bren: No Pie? Why or why? Hmmmm maybe go to the bakery, pick up a pie, bring it home, and say you baked it!
Ok, gotta give the computer back to my husband. See ya all later.

Whew, this thread is moving fast. I'm going to have to peek in a few times a day to keep up!
Pancakes and BBQ. . .two of my favorite things. Have to admit that baby back ribs are my absolute favorite. Just had some the other night when we went out for my dd's birthday.
Sheila - Thanks for the info on feeding the hummingbirds. I think it's just too late this year to attract them, so I just put it away. I missed getting the feeder out in the spring because I was recovering from my surgery. Next spring I plan to be healthy!
Love hearing about NC. I lived there during 2006 because my company merged with another company and moved there. I needed one year to reach retirement age and years and the company was good enough to keep me on long enough to get there. Thank Heaven since I was dx with bc right before my job ran out and I'm not sure how I would've handled all of this without my retirement insurance. Of course, splitting my time between my job in Winston-Salem and Louisville was no easy task and my family stayed here. I did have lots of good friends who had transferred jobs so it was kind of like being single while I was in Winston and we did lots of fun things. I loved NC, although I never got used to the slaw on the bbq!
Bren & Debbie -- Beautiful flowers. I love the containers Bren, but our water bills are so high that I can't afford to do many containers. Using those chairs was a great idea. I'd love to spend time on your porch or Debbie's gazebo!
-
Whoosh! This thread does move fast here!
I have to say Debbie, that your garden looks like it belongs on a Garden Tour! Exquisite!
Love hearing about all the summer storms. This is the only place I've ever lived that simply does not get thunderstorms. Maybe one every two or three years - and then it's talked about for days. I go out on my front porch and revel in the power in the sky whenever it happens. When I lived in MD, it seemed like there'd be a late afternoon thunderstorm 3-4x/week.
I could do without pancakes indefinitely, but mmm-mm. good NoCarolina BBQ with slaw on top. I rarely eat meat, but boy, could I go for one of those! My family is from NC, so even though I grew up all over the country, I'm a Southern girl, too. Cracked up over the Bambi-Q term!
Peggy - thanks for sharing the good news on your friend. Sounds like a small miracle. Oh - and HUGE congrats on the weight loss! Don't you just love those increments where you get to put the chunk marker on the doctor's scale down a whole notch!?! 199 and 3/4th and down it goes.
Nicki - so your vacation is winding down already? Sounds like you have had plenty of pool time, though. WTG! You must have seen me on the SanDiego thread in pics w/SoCal and BMD. Did you see me with my 'real' hair? Only in the very first one.
It's come in so much darker and of course, curly that I don't even look like myself!. SoCal is our photographer/historian - she's so talented she makes us all look good. You are right - we are so lucky to have our monthly BCO group. Any of you ever come visiting in San Diego, come join us. We love guests!
Gotta run!
Lisa
-
Im sitting here enjoying the sounds of a morning thunderstorm. Very nice indeed, with thunder in the distance. Im asking myself why am I up this early? Should go back to bed and listen to the rhythm of the falling rain.
My pool is small, above ground - but it sure has been nice to be able to swim in it most of this week. What is nice is that its surrounded by big trees in my yard, so there is lots of time to swim when there is no direct sun beating down on ya. Hoping it doesnt rain all day.
Sheila: Working between two places had to be hard. Although I laughed when I read sometimes you felt like you were single again. I will be celebrating my 30th wedding anniversary in August - so I dont remember that feeling!
Lisa: Im going to have to go back and look at those pictures to see if I can tell the difference in your hair. Strange thing about mine. It was curly before chemo, came back very fine and straight, now that its getting longer its developed this ugly waviness! Geesh Im tired of this hair thing already.
My Hijack today is M & M's. So a friend mentions green ones and its supposed to have a special meaning. Then I heard each color has a meaning - here I am, never heard of that before. Ive been trying to look it up and not finding alot of information. Has anyone else heard that M & M's different colors have meanings? I know this is silly, but its bugging me.
Nicki
-
Good Morning to my special friend.
Nicki
-
Nicki -- It comes back to you like riding a bike. . .LOL! It was so much fun and then I had to come back to reality, hee, hee. We celebrated our 30th anniversary on October 8 last year.
Couldn't find anything except about green M&Ms:
Green M&M's ® have long been the subject of myth as they are considered, by some, to have magical aphrodisiac powers. As to whether or not this is true is, of course, subject to interpretation
Curious as to how this myth may have occurred, we did a little research and learned the following fun facts about the color Green
According to Celtic myths, the Green Man was the God of Fertily
Green has long been considered a metaphor and symbol for fertility and this was evident in the fifteenth (15t) century as Green was the preferred color for wedding attire
The symbolism attached to the color Green continues today even though it has taken on a more modern meaning
The myth per Green M&M's ® was fueled in the late seventies and early eighties, as rock and roll performers , such as Van Halen, requested bowls of Green M&M's ® backstage
Adding to this myth, Masterfoods, in 1996, released a commercial asking "Is it true what they say about green ones?"
There is no empirical evidence as to whether or not these fabled candies have magical powers but we do know that they taste great and are part of Americana candy loreNow I'm thinking about eating M&Ms instead of breakfast. My favorites are the dark chocolate ones!

Hi everyone!
Just stopped by and enjoyed reading the last few posts!
Nicki, I am going to try your Eggplant Parmesan...sounds not only easy, but soooo yummy! My DH makes some mean whole wheat banana pancakes for us Sunday mornings (yay...tomorrow's the day!)....he uses whole wheat flour (duh),splenda, bananas, eggs, etc. so when I use sugar free syrup I feel I am eating a healthy breakfast..lol. I love finding healthy recipes,so am anxious to try yours.
Ladies, all the garden pictures were beautiful! This spring I thought I couldn't do any gardening till next year, w/bilat mast, recon surgery in May....but I was wrong...now I have been able to get outside, and get dirty, doing yardwork...and I love it, although here it is in the 90's and very, very humid.
BTW...what does "HIJACK THIS POST" refer to? The original message has been deleted...so I have no idea. But you all are neat, interesting ladies, so its been fun "visiting" with you all!
Kathy
-
Sheila: Coool! "Magical Aphrodisiac Powers" thats the one that fits. Hahaha now I understand. Might just go get some of those M & M's for myself. BTW - I love the dark chocolate ones also.
Kathy: Howdy and nice to meet you. Hijack means you can come here and talk about anything you want. Dont have to follow any particular conversation. So you can say pretty much whatever you want lol. Those pancakes sounded sooooo goood. Im going back on South Beach diet starting Monday and Im gonna try them. I also have a mean recipe for chocolate cheesecake that is sugar free, no crust and is outta this world.
Nicki
-
When I was in high school, in the late 70's, we used to say people who ate the green m&m's were horny, probably because of Van Halen, I didn't know that. We assigned meanings to the other colors, too, red meant you were hot, but I don't remember what the others meant.. I think it must have been a local thing. I also love the dark ones.
-
Sheri: Dark ones with wine!
-
I can't contribute to the M&M discussion...I just know that I love all colors and kinds except those crunchy ones. However, my BBQ last night was fabulous!!! I ordered the ribs with onion rings and cole slaw (had to have something remotely healthy), and ate myself into a stupor. The leftovers await me in the fridge for lunch...yum!
All the garden pictures are beautiful...I've never had a yard so never got into gardening beyond a couple of boxes of petunias on the balcony. Friends tell me that digging in the dirt is very tranquilizing.
Lots of Tar Heels here! Gorgeous, gorgeous state. I'm a FL resident so am planning to retire there, but maybe I should check out NC, too. Is the cost of living still relatively low? They have state income tax, don't they?
Off to the library today...I'm devouring fiction like mad. There's a great library here with lots of new books...unlike our little military base library, which is poorly funded---most extra $$$ go to the war.
More later...off to eat pancakes. Do you see a food theme w/ me??
Lynn
-
OK Nicki....PLEASE share your chocolate cheesecake sugar-free recipe......PRETTY PLEASE with sugar-free topping and a lowfat cherry on top...lol! I love sweets and when there is a low cal recipe that tastes good, I am all over it. (Plus it would be nice to lose weight b4 my 40th hs reunion in Hawaii in less than 2 months....not likely to get to lose weight b4 then, though!).
Kathy
-
Another quick pop in. Been swimming all day. Very hot and humid - uggh! Cant tolerate the humidty sometimes. I was thinking about those wheat fields and that reminded me of a field of sunflowers. Acres and acres of sunflowers. It was so cool. They are one of my favorite flowers. Fun to grow too.
Kathy: The chocolate cheese cake is easy. Use your favorite cheese cake recipe, use Splenda instead of sugar and low fat cream cheese. Get a small box of chocolate fudge sugar free jello pudding. Put the dry pudding in the cheese cake mix for the chocolate flavoring. Out of this world. BTW, you sound like you are doing great just having surgery this past May. I found working with my flowers was so therapeutic after my surgery. Seems like we are the same age as Im invited to my 40th reunion in October. Too bad for me its in Illinois instead of Hawaii!
Lynn: Your right, there are lots of tarheels here. 6 months ago I wouldnt have known what that was but some good friends explained it to my on another thread I go to. The BBQ sounded fantastic.
Hoping everyone is having a great Staruday evening. Im gonna go spend sometime with my husband.
Nicki
-
Thanks Nicki, for the cheesecake recipe! The only reason my reunion is in Hawaii, is cause thats where I grew up, so the hs is there. However, they are thinking of having a combined "42 yr reunion and 60th birthdays" in 2 yrs....and maybe in Vegas. I am all for that, as long as it isn't in summer--Vegas is just tooooooo hot for me most months of the year! Hope you'll get to go to your 40th! The only other reunion I knew about was our 20th...so I went...and we all looked good then!
Thanks for sharing the sunflower pic with us! We had a couple of sunflower "volunteers" come up under the bird feeders...hope they will make it thru this hot summer and actually produce the sunflower seeds,as we have tons of birds who would enjoy it! Have a 4th mourning dove (sp?) (or same one...poor her if it is!), nesting above our front door. After having 3 clutches there this year already I was ready to take the nest down...but then this one started sitting there again. I think she's a nympho bird!
Speaking of how everyone loves thunderstorms....we just had quite a strong one pass through here. Had 1" hail, and took a lot of trees and power poles down...but not at our house! OUr subdivision has bradford pear trees lining the main road, and we always lose some during even just rainstorms... I am sure there are several more down after this one. Darn...and it always looked so pretty in the spring driving through...looked like snow.
Have a great weekend everyone!

Tarheels! Did I hear the sacred word!!!
I'm Cherryl, a Tarheel born and a Tarheel bred. I'm now in IL, hi NIcki, Laura GTO and other ILers. My heart, of course, remains in God's country. Looking forward to meeting other 'Heels.
Cherryl
-
I lived there (Charlotte) for 4 yrs when I was first married (before divorce)....does that count as a temporary Tarheel???? This was before Carowinds, and the huge growth they had...back in the early 70's! Would not even recognize the downtown area now.
Kathy
-
Tar Heels, from NC, right?? I wasn't born here, but I moved here shortly before my bc dx.
I didn't have very much luck with the drs. in Maryland, so I am thinking it was maybe a good thing that I moved to NC, even though I have had my share of problems with drs. here, too. I love my surgeon, my onc is ok, and my ps is ok, too, so I guess that is the most important thing.
Lynn, I hope you move to NC, and maybe live near the Myrtle Beach area. I live about three miles from the NC/SC border, in a town called Carolina Shores. I would LOVE to have you as a neighbor!!

Hello hijackers..........I am going to hijack this thread because I think if I ate a million green m & m's wouldn't make any difference because of my lack of estrogen..........anyway I was telling some friends of mine about my 83 year old mom (whom I love dearly)...........she has a thing about plastic grocery bags...........she has them every where in her house..........now don't get me wrong you can't "see" them but if you open up any cabinet, drawer, in containers under all the beds in her house, in the bathrooms you will find these plastic bags............so about two months ago I was using the guest bathroom and "took" about four bags out of one of her drawers.......well about a month later we were having lunch and she asked me if I "took" some bags out of the bathroom..........I am 51 years old and I "lied" to my mom and denied I took any...........so I was telling my friends that last week I put the plastic bags "back" and tried my best to put them back in the drawer just like they were.......but I know she will know..........but anyway today I asked her if I could have ONE plastic bag with some ice in it because we had stop at the farmer's market and I had gotten some fresh eggs and needed to do one more stop............my mom says well you can "borrow" a bag but I am going to need it back..........wth?............I said mom the bag is going to be "wet" and she says well if you turn it inside out it will dry and then you can return it................you guys have to understand she must have hundreds of these bags...........I am just waiting for her to say something about the "returned" bags because she will wait until I think I have gotten away with it and then she will say something.............not only does cancer seem to run in the family but insanity as well........ha.........Shokk

Good morning--
I think anyone who loves NC can be considered a Tar Heel--at least an honorary one. Harley, thanks for the invite to the coast, but it seems like there have been a ton of hurricanes hitting there in the last few years...don't want to see my retirement condo float away. Of course, FL is major hurricance country; although I've never been through a direct hit in all my years there, Katrina has made me have a much healthier respect for those devils.
Of course, no matter where I end up in my sunset years, I'll still be a die-hard FL Gator fan. I can't wait for college football to start! Any other fans of the game?
Debbie, where did you live in Japan when you were a kid?
Last night my niece and her husband were here for dinner...we had steaks on the grill and ate out on the patio. It was a beautiful night...a nice breeze kept the hot flashes away, and we were enjoying conversation and wine. I looked up and there was skunk waddling across the yard! I'd never seen one that wasn't road kill. He toddled around, went to the neighbors' yards, and disappeared into a rock wall. My BIL said he might be rabid since he was out so early. We also saw a little rabbit hopping through...lots of Bambi-like creatures in suburbia! I haven't seen any deer this year, though.
Shorkk, what a riot about the plastic bags! Whatever floats your boat, I guess. My stepmother was a huge packrat...every drawer and closet was packed with crap. She saved everything, though...although she was partial to margarine tubs. There was one cabinet I'd innocently open looking for something to put leftovers in, and tons of those dang tubs would tumble out. Just thinking about it makes me want to go clean out a closet.

Popping in quickly - have had a busy mornin already, but wanted to say hello.
Shokk: I laughing about the plastic bags. Especially returning them. Your mother must be a hoot.
Lynn: Sounds like you had a grand evening last night.
Kathy, Cherryl, Harley - I will catch up with ya later. Gotta go run to the store.
Im happy today because despite eating whatever I wanted, when I wanted to, I have lost 10 pounds. So swiming has been a very good exercise.
I also have not smoked for one week now. So we shall see if I can keep away.
Now me quittin - thats a big deal, so Im doing the happy dance today.
Catch up with ya later.
Nicki

Shokk -- Cracking up over the plastic bags and she wants it returned. . .ROFL! Must admit that I keep a supply of them in my pantry because I use them as liners in my smaller trash cans, but I do pitch them when the supply gets too big (hopefully I'll continue to do that and not start to horde them. . .LOL)
Lynn -- I lived in NC for a year and it's a beautiful state. Lots of stuff to do that's very close. I love football and my team is the Uof L Cardinals. . .go Cards! Professional team would be the Colts although I enjoy college ball more than paid teams.
Nicki -- Big congrats on the weight loss and not smoking. Losing weight while you're not smoking is a major accomplishment! I just recently had my 1 year anniversary of not smoking (after 30+ years) so I know it's not an easy thing to do. I tried to quit for my 50th bday last year, but that was just 2 weeks after my dx and I was way too stressed to quit at that time. I waited a couple of months and quit on May 1. I still miss them. . .seems like I've had to give up a lot this past year. . .my cigs and my boob. Hang in there
-
Nickster congratulations...........not only have you lost ten pounds but have stopped smoking.........it makes you wonder just how stressful your job really is..............that is just wonderful.............if I ever get to stop taking steroids maybe I can lose some weight............I have lung disease and never have smoked.....but you know my parents never did either so just not sure how that happen.........but it has to be tough on kids when their parents do smoke..........they really don't have any say about it........never did put much stock on the theories about second hand smoke but now I do..........anyway Cherryl my favorite left leaning Democrat........all you North Carolinians are alike.....Tar Heel this, Tar Heel that.........jeez...........they aren't the Dallas Mavericks.......oh wait they are better then the Mavs.........ha............Lynn nothing like witnessing mother nature live......makes you wonder what goes on at night when your asleep.......all the little creatures feasting on leftover steaks having a party..........ok I have got to get some stuff done before tomorrow..........will be back........later gators..........Shokk
-
Hey Shokk,
I have a great idea. Ask your mom if we can use those plastic bags. We can go into business. Look what we can make with them.......handbags!!!!!!!!!!!
Praises are being sung high and low, and I wanna be CEO.
-
ROFL....I forgot about all those "good" uses of plastic bags! However, I have actually had them come in handy on trips. I always buy more stuff that I can fit in suitcases (no more though w/ airlines charging for bags...sob), so I would get a box from a supermarket, and save all the bags from stuff we bought, and cut them in strips, braid them togther, and then make "rope" which was really strong, to tie my boxes up with! So, anytime you need rope and have plastic bags handy, this will really work! (I'd even have to cut them w/ tiny manicure scissors!).
That tote bag actually looks nice, but cant imagine taking the time to get the right colors of bags!
Nicki-CONGRATS on losing weight AND quitting smoking---that is so great!
Sheila-CONGRATS on your 1 yr of not smoking anniversary--super!
Have a nice day everyone--we are expecting storms.
Ciao,
Kathy

Blue I sure have missed you...........what a fantastic idea...................I did tell her that she could recycle them back to the grocery store but she is afraid she might "need" them...........maybe I will show her a picture and it will at least give her some ideas on how she might be able to put them to good use instead of folded so neatly in her drawers, cabinets, under the beds in containers, etc.......Blue you are so smart to think of an idea like that............of course since I am a conservative and don't care at all about the environment I would never have thought up such an idea like that and also being TEXAN we aren't the sharpest tools in the box......ha............Shokk
-
Yeah, and maybe we can figure out how to make choos with them too. Sometimes I'm so smart, I scare myself.
-
HaHa............oh Blue thanks for reminding me I need to be sure and go eat a banana today........been having leg cramps and me thinks my potassium is too low...................as a matter of fact getting ready to walk out the door to go choo shopping...........not sure why but I decided I needed a pair....wonder if Choo makes cowboy boots............hmmmmm.........oh well going to check out goodwill and see if some rich woman with size 11 shoe decided to have some goodwill and donate some Choo cowboy boots..........ha..............adios..........(that's how we say goodbye in TEXAS)............Shokk

Sheila: My big test is going to be when I go back to work. I realized I did most of my smoking driving and thats all I do all is drvie from hospital to hospital. The weight just happened! I believe its from all the swimming I did in my pool this week. Despite some who think Im crazy having trees around my pool, its really a Godsend. Im still sorta sunned out from this past Wednesday and didnt want alot of sun exposure. So the 1st half hour there was sun, then the wonderful shade came along. Im getting faster with my laps. You and I have so much in common. Thats cools.
Blue: Its so good to see you. I have missed you. Im gonna send something to go along with those bananas. Might have it for dessert tonight.
They are called PEA NUTS hahahahahaha!
Shokk: What a cool idea Blue found. With all the plastic bags your mom has, she could go into business! I went Choo shopping also. I wanted to get stilettos but went with black gym shoes. Figure they will look nicer with my dress pants than the white ones.
Another former friend told me today the reason Im falling is because Im clumbsy. Wished I could have knocked her on the side of her head. Especially since I have an appointment this week with my onc to rule out mets. Dont you hate it when people can be so mean sometimes. No breast cancer and I could understand, but she has been through this journey! Thats why Im so glad I have all of you. Instead of laughing in the rain this girl is gonna be slipping on ice water because I believe there is a special place in (not heaven) for some.
Kathy: Stay safe in those storms.
Looking for some, Sige, DebC, Lisa and Lisa from San Diego, Sheri, Vickie, Harley, Hannah - Im forgeting some. Come tomorrow I wont get to post much - back to work for me.
OK - Im still sharing my computer so I have to go. This is my recipe for the remainder of my egg plant for tonight. Slicing it long ways like a steak. Coat each side with olive oil. Put spinach, avocado, fresh basil, parsley and dried tomatoes on top. Coat another piece of egg plant with olive oil and sort of make a sandwich. Cook it on the BBQ like a steak. Melt romano and mozzarella cheese right before its ready to be servied. Make a nice thickened balsamic vingegar/olive oil mix and dip it! Yummy.
I know I post alot of old songs - thats where my heart is, and I still love the Beatles to this day. I was always in love with Paul. I really hate the fact that his wife Linda passed away from breast cancer. Anyways, here is a cool song. Not old - its the hit of the summer. When I first heard it I thought it was strange. But now I really like it. Im trying to figure out a way for my husband to play it when he is entertaining - but its the words - ya know.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=o-jFKW4vrCw
BBL I hope.
