bone mets
Hi everyone,
I had a bone scan last August andI finished chemo in feb of this year. I have had a sore back for a few days now. It doesn't keep me awake nor does it stop me from doing things. If anything it is worse when sitting. I guess you know where I am going with this. Do you think it is possible for bone mets to appear so soon after finishing chemo? I don't want to bother my onc with every pain and twinge so I thought I'd check here first

I don't know the answer to your question. I do believe anytime you are concerned about something, you should talk with your onc about it. They are accustomed to patients being anxious and having questions about aches/pains/changes/etc. I feel sure he or she would want to know if there are any changes in your condition--they SHOULD want to know. Good luck to you! Sorry I couldn't help.

The general consensus is to report to your oncologist something that lasts longer than two weeks.

Kayree is right. It's always good to get worrisome pains that don't go away checked out. My onc said the same thing about investigating the cause of pains that don't go away after two weeks.
Did you have a taxane in your chemo coctail? They are reputed to cause pains even months after treatment. Just yesterday, a good friend of mine (and BC survivor) and I were discussing how we both have pain that occurs especially after sitting for a while. Her knees hurt. For me it's my back and right heel.
Anyway, a few months ago, my back was hurting so badly that I just had to get to the bottom of it. My onc order a scan (a bone density test) of my back. Turns out I have osteopenia (slight bone thinning), but it's not cancer. Such relief! I'm really glad I had it checked. Don't worry about bothering your onc. After everything you've been through, you've earned the right to have your aches and pains taken seriously. Being vigilant is a good thing!

I had finished chemo in March of 2006 and was in the midst of rads when I had tons of back pain. They sent me STAT for x-rays and Ct. It was a very old herniated disc that woke up from chemo. (gee..thanks chemo!). I had never had pain before but the doctor said it had been there for a long time.
So...go get it checked out for peace of mind.
