Starting chemo next week, do I need a Bone Scan ?

Hi All-

I love this site!  I was newly diagnosed in May and have browsed this site several times.  I will be starting chemo next week and one doctor recommended a baseline bone scan and the other doctor didn't seemed worried about it.  Any ideas what I should do?  I have already had a CAT scan of my lungs due to a granuloma, that turned out just to be that!  Thank goodness.  My Her2/neu is 3.8 and I had 4/15 nodes positive. Thanks for your help!

Kari

I can't say what you should do, but I can tell you that I did have a bone scan before starting chemo. I was not happy about it - I found the scans and tests before treatment started trying  - both waiting for the procedures and then waiting for the results after. Still, all the scans and so on are the tools your doctors use to create the best treatment for your particular case. You could ask if the results of the scan will influence treatment?

In my case the scans came back clear. It was a relief. I had dose dense AC/T Herceptin, followed by mastectomy, radiation, more Herceptin - and Tamoxifen.

Take care Kari, and best of luck next week! :-)
