How should I take Flax / Omega Supplements?
I keep hearing about flax oil and omega 3 dietary supplements. How can I use these to make my body stronger prior/during/after chemo?
Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Ninel, You can get flaxseed oil capsules and take as directed on the bottle, I remember when I suggested to my sister who went through chemo and radiation the flaxseed oil supplements), she called me within a week or so and told me how much more energetic she was once she started the supplement. She take it daily now and has been in remission for 9 years. I have used flaxseed sporadically before diagnosis this year and I took it because I knew it was good for your health...but I noticed how it helped my gums and that I had sensitive teeth that the pain went away and I tried to remember to take it regularly at least for 1-2 weeks before dental checks...funny how my dentist said I was taking great care of my teeth and that the tooth he wanted to check on didn't have a cavity or was sensitive...yet the only thing I had done differently was to add the flaxseed oil supplement. Now I take one capsule when I take a Co Q 10 supplement, other days I try to add ground flaxseed to oatmeal.
I wish you the best, God Bless,
Amber

I bought a liquid flax oil. The directions are 1 teaspoon daily. Is this the same as flax seed?

I have bought eggs and butter infused with Omega fatty Acids as well, they cost a little more but I felt they were worth the extra $$$. I had an upset stomach when I took the supplemental oil capsuls as they were directed, before dx. I have used flaxseed oil in addition to and even in place of olive oil when cooking, it has a rich buttery taste.

Ninel,
I take the supplement and also use the flaxseed oil. I mix the oil w/salad dressings. I had read that you should take a cup of cottage cheese and pour a 1tbs of flaxseed oil over it before you eat it. My brother has been reading a lot about cancer and all other ailments and this one was mentioned by a Dr. I had read that if you grind your flaxseed, do not use that grinder for anything else. There's a lot of information out there stating that this supplement is good for your overall body. Sounds good to me and i will keep taking it.

Ninel,
yes the flaxseed oil is just as good....I have a bottle as well and I keep it in the frig to keep it fresher longer, after I open the gel pill bottle, I store it in the frig as well.
If you try the ground flaxseed, which you can find at grocery stores in the flour section or sometimes in the vitamin/supplement section, after opening, I store it in the freezor to keep it fresher longer.

I've been grinding 4T of flaxseeds and mixing them with yogurt for over a year now. I miss a day or two here and there, but it's my breakfast for the most part. This is what's suggested in Dr Christiane Northrup's book on menopause. My cholesterol is still too high. Hate to think what it would be without my flaxseed.
I didn't read much about the budwig protocol until recently. Someone posted a link to a youtube video showing precisely how to mix the flaxseed oil, cottage cheese and the fresh ground flaxseeds. So now I'm thinking I'll ramp up my flax and follow the protocol more closely. I kicked my tamoxifen to the curb six months ago, so I might rest easier if I'm more precise with following the budwig protocol. Flaxseed offers a nice list of benefits in addition to the omega 3 fatty acids. ....none of which are coming to mind. Three years post chemo and I still feel like the deer in the headlights at times.

I grind the organic seeds. They keep forever and are way less than $2/lb. I grind mine (about 1/2 cup) to almost a paste then juice organic apples and mix about 2 tbsp. with about 4 - 6 ounces at a time until it's gone. It tastes great with the apple juice. I like the science behind budwig protocol, except that it involves dairy, which is a no no in my world.
