I missed that, Harley when Althea was commenting on the value of 1.0.

Yes, I'm on the .125.  During chemo he gave me .137 (I think that's the next dose number).  Then back down to .125.  The TSH that was low was in July, then six months later in Dec. it was normal...TSH 3.67 and T4, Free (Direct) was 1.41.  Notice they both came down.  HOWEVER, I had been "playing" with my Synthroid during those six months.  I think I took the .125 for about 4 or 5 weeks before my Dec. bloodwork.  I'm not going to play with it this time.  I'll have it done again in June.

I asked him if being hot (just sitting here in front of the computer doing nothing but typing..LOL) can be a sign of too much thyroid med.  He said yes and something else I can't remember.  So, we shall see.

Yes, you may as well be "honest" with here. LOL  Perhaps she'll do another draw for the count.

I haven't forgotten to email you.

I had graves disease (Hyperthyroid) Had it obliterated with radioactive iodine..became myxedema within 2 months..Hd to go on mega doses to get my level up. then

I had a thyroid situation where .2 Synthroid was slightly high. I convinced my endo doc to give me .175 daily and I would take the .2 every third day instead of the .175. He said he never heard of this. I reminded him insulin dependent diabetics made adjustments in their doasge several times a day. Both are hormones. I knew I needed the extra boost every few days or my levels dropped too low. But at .2 I was a bit too high. Provided the heart is not racing and BP is good, I prefer to be over than under. Most docs under medicate for hypthyroid.

OMG Ladies do not mess around with your synthroid meds!   My doc told me not to miss any as you can have a heart attack if you miss too much.  Thank you all for the heads up on calcium and synthroid absorption.  I had forgotten i wasn't supposed to take calcium with the synthroid.

    Jacqui,

If you are OVER medicated, you risk having bone loss from too much thyroid hormone.  So be careful!!

Also, when I was taking too much, I didn't have a time when I felt good, I just went from being tired and under active, to being tired and over active...

    Shirley,

I know how it feels, when you are just feeling so tired all the time, and the dr. is just no help whatsoever.  I have adjusted my dose of Synthroid before.  This time, I got my pcp's partner to agree to put me on a slightly higher dose than she thought I should be taking.  I guess I will just go with the lower dose...

Pretty soon, I will have a pharmacy of EVERY imaginable dose of generic levothyroxine that exists!!  SmileLaughing

Yes, I am looking forward to Tuesday!

What kind of cost will I be facing if I am placed on meds for my thyroid?  Sorry to hijack your thread shirley, but this seems like a good place to ask.

No, althea, you're not hijacking this thread.

Thyroid meds are cheap.  Well, I have insurance for it...last years insurance was much better.  But there's the generic and I'm sure it's very cheap.

hollyann, a heart attack?  My heart sometimes beats like it skips.  I'm blaming that on just plain ole me or perhaps too much thyroid med.  I take something for heart palpitations so it's really hard to know.  Thanks for the heads up.  I'll have to ask my primary about that.

Harley, I'm gonna call you.  Not tonight..it's too late.  Have a pen handy for the phone number.  I may bring my camera with me.  I may try to get a pic of us together if I can find a crazy person to take it.  Then I can put it here on the board and everyone can see your new boobs.  Make sure you wear something sexy!  LOL  Of course, only with your permission would I post a picture.  I'm so fat I don't know if I want to post one of me!

    Althea,

I don't know what kind of insurance you have, but levothyroxine is available as generic now, so it should be cheaper.  My insurance forces me to get generic, but I used to get Synthroid.  They told me that if I want to get the brand name, it will be $64   Outrageous!  So I am taking the generic, and it is only $3/month.

I still hate it when I get 90 days of a dose, and then get switched, because I have a whole bottle of pills that I can't use... I seem to be spending alot of money on pills that I don't use.

    Good Luck!

    Shirley,

You are NOT fat!!  Of course, it is ok to post a pic here.  I will try to remember to bring my camera, too.

Oh, you may not recognize me, because I'll be going sans wig...  My hair is silver, gray, black and white, and it's about 2" long.  Still too short in my opinion, but people tell me it looks cute.

I can't wait!  It sounds fun!

Harley, I bet you really look cute with the short hair.  You are tiny and I think tiny little faces can pull off having very short hair.  I AM fat and I have to have a little hair around my puffy fat face.

I'm still going to call you. Wink

I was recently diagnosed with invasive breast cancer and in doing my research have read a lot regarding the synthroid connection.  For years, the Dr.s just told you to take it once a day.  It wasn't until just a few years ago that the prescriptions  started saying with no food!  Many physcians and holistic health practicioners believe that the blood test is the least accurate of the monitors for thyroid levels.  I would also encourage all of you to read the information on iodine (iodide/iodoral) treatments for thyroid problems.  One new study says to take synthroid at night.   Whenever is the least time when you will eat soon after is what my interist offered.  My oncologist, however told me she thinks their is a connection to my breast cancer and my thyroid problem.  I wish all of you much luck in your research.  I would be very interested to see if anyone else has discovered the iodine connection.

yes, you are correct...one should NOT take their synthroid with, nor near the time they take calcium supplements, or with calcium, such as in milk in the morning....because of this, my physician advised me to take my synthroid at night, as i drink coffee with milk and also have cereal with milk, and take vitamins every morning....so my synthroid is on my night stand....best to you....

Good heavens, do not skip any thyroid medication.  The thyroid is a metabolic producing hormone, the brain and the organs (including heart and liver and kidneys etc)  do not funtion properly if the thyroid is not functioning properly or if thyroid levels are out of whack.  When I was dx hypothyroid I went for blood tests every 3 months while taking synthroid daily to make sure my levels were within normal range (as my doctor requested), now I get a blood test every 6 months to ensure optimal thyroid levels are there.   I think this is important as your dosage can sometimes need adjusting as time goes on.
