Willow Breast Cancer Support Canada

I am reaching out to all Canadian women who have connected with a local support group and are willing to communicate "support group contact information." The purpose of this request is to be better able to support women from across Canada to find local peer support groups in their community. Thank you for the gift of your time.

I haven't bothered with any local support groups in my area as I feel I get enough information and support from bc.org. I could be wrong but I enjoy the anonimity of the web site and was always afraid of joining a local group and having it sort of take over my life too much. I don't know if that makes sense to you but that is how I've felt, I may check Wellspring in London again, maybe I will feel different this time around. But the first time, I was just diagnosed and didn't know where I would or could even get an income as I didn't have and LTD. And all they could offer was yoga, meditation etc. and for me at the time, I needed to find out how I was going to be able to keep my apartment and cats, and didn't think yoga would get me through that.

I believe there have been studies to show cancer patients do better when they belong to a support group. I believe this to be true and I also have chosen the web for my support. I also go to her2support.org and get a wealth of information as well as this site. When I had a hysterectomy related to breast cancer I join Hystersisters. So much meaningful suggestions come from these connections. If there is a theme to my survival it is my family and friends who don't baby me. When I had a mastectomy in '93 one of my pals phoned me at the hospital and asked if I was going dancing on Tuesday. I was being discharged on Sun and said I didn't think I would be up to it. Her response was," they didn't cut your feet off" so on Tuesday I taped my drainage bag to my waist, put on a loose blouse and danced the night away. It was just the kick in the butt I needed.
Hugs to all,
Diana

When I first had BC in 1998 I used Willow for info a couple times when they were still down on Queen St. and I was in a 8 week support group at Wellspring. They were both useful and helpful. The second time I used the facilities at Princess Margaret - library and BC centre and also Wellspring for the gentle yoga.
