mammo tomorrow
Okay friends, I am scheduled for my mammo tomorrow. Its been 6 months since my last one. On my last mammogram I had a cyst behind my nipple in my right breast ( bc side) I saw it on the film and my radiologist mentioned it. The problem is I can still feel the thing....I constantly feel it wondering if its something else... I dont like feeling anything that feels like a "lump" I am afraid of having my mammogram tomorrow. Part of me feels like not going the other part know's I must go. I wonder who will win the battle? I hate feeling like this. I am not brave I am a chicken! Love, Stacey

Know this is awful to go through. You don't have to be brave to show up and have it done. You can be a chicken but still show up.
I've heard some people like to handle this by thinking about their body like a car or something. It gets dents and stuff, but isn't 'part of you'. Maybe you can play tricks on your brain like that for a few hours until its over.
Thinking of you!

Thanks Leaf,
I just dread going with a passion but I know I have to do it. I cant sleep I am running around the house like a crazy women washing, cleaning, anything to keep my mind off the mammogram. I should think of the mammogram as my dear friend because that is how they found my bc during a routine mammogram. So maybe I will think of it like that " I am going to see my friend".... think I'm loosing my mind

stacey,
I know EXACTLY how you feel. I just had my mammo today and I too was cleaning wildly. I am pretty tough most of the time and rarely cry but I could feel the tears coming when I was in the waiting room. No one else could see them but I could feel them. The tech told me the radiologist would read it later and they would send me a report in the mail. I said, "Don't I get a fast pass for already having breast cancer and going through the treatments?" She told me she would check to see if the radiologist was available. He came out after a few minutes and told me all was fine.
Good luck. I have absolutely no advice for you but you will get through it because you have to. Ask for the results right away. Even if they say no it doesn't hurt to ask. Maybe they will take pity on you like they did me.

Boy, I can relate! I had microcals pop up 2 years out and had to wait 6 mos to rule out more bc in the "good" one.
I was a mess. Had the cleanest closets and drawers in 5 counties. I broke down and cried when I was given an all clear.
Hang in there, mammo IS our friend. After, just don't leave till they give you the results!
Then it's martini time---to celebrate!

AWWWW THANKS! its so reassuring to hear from other who understand what I am going through. I still have panic attacks when I go see my oncologist or have my mammogram but with the help of my very very best friend...."Mr.Xanax" I will survive and show up as scheduled
Love you all!!! Stacey

Hey My mammo was "all clear" I have graduated to yearly mammo's instead of every 6 months!!!!!!!!! I am happy but a little scared to go to yearly mammograms...there is a bit of security when you know your being checked every 6 months!

My last mammo, one year and a half, after surgery, I seemed fine, told my husband he didn't need to come with me, got my results--took a while but all was ok--and walking home on Third Avenue in New York, middle of day, lots of people around, I broke down and start crying in the street. Felt like a fool. Do you have someone to bring with you? Being nervous is perfectly normal and at least you have the sense to know you're nervous. And if they ask you to come in for more pictures while you're there, don't panic. That's happened to me twice but it was nothing. Just caution on their part.
Very good luck.

My DH always comes with me to every appointment that has to do with my breast because I have to eat Xanax like M&M's to be able to get throught the door! I am usually asleep before we leave the parking deck of the hospital. Thank God for drugs!!!
