I am from East Central Florida near Cocoa Beach and Melbourne and would like to find people near me? Where are you gals? I just started treatment March 25th and know there has got to be someone in my area?

    Hi,

I am in the Tampa Bay area - there are quite a number of us over here.

We have regular get-togethers. I will let you know when and where the next one is.

    Hugs

Are you up for the Moffitt Breast Conference in September?

I just received my notice.  It is 10/11/08.  I went last year while I was undergoing treatment.  Some of the speakers changed my mind about the line of treatment I was about to refuse.  I will be forever grateful to them for helping me with those decisions.

    Hi,

I'm from Kissimmee. We keep a boat in a marina in Melbourne, and our son and his family live in the Tampa area.

I had a lumpectomy, then Mammosite radiation, and am now on Arimidex.

Can anyone go to the Moffitt Breast Conference, or do you have to be a patient of Moffitt?

    kdeit,

Anyone can go to the conference.   You do not need to be a patient at Moffitt.  Request an invitation at this address: factors@moffitt.org.  I think the invitations will be going out in Aug or Sept.

    Hi LilacLady,

Thanks so much for the address!!  I emailed them, and my phone rang no more than 5 minutes after sending it off!!  It was the coordinator for the Conference and she was so excited to know that the word was getting out.  She's going to send me my invitation when they are ready to go out.

Hope everyone has a safe and fun 4th of July weekend.

    Hi,

Glad you found us although I wish it would have been under different circumstances.  I am also from FL but a bit South in Miami.  Anyway, just wanted to let you know I'm here and only a PM away.  I know starting treatment is difficult and this journey is very scary.  I finished treatments two years ago but continue to fight cancer every day.  You are not alone.   We are all here to help and support each other.  The wonderful ladies on this site have gotten me through the darkest days and nights in my life.  I hope we can do the same for you.

    Love and hugs

    Odalys,

Thank you for the welcome.  I appreciate your offer of help and support.  My cancer was caught early, and was small, so I opted for a lumpectomy and Mammosite radiation, which is an internal radiation, given 2 times a day for 5 days, rather than daily for 5 to 7 weeks.  I am most concerned about the possible side effects of Arimidex, but so far, so good.  (Keeping my fingers crossed as I type this).

I have a niece in the Miami area - her first night there was as a freshman at the U of Miami, when Hurricane Andrew hit!!  What an introduction to Florida weather ;-o

    Hugs,

    Karen

Karen - Wow, that is some intro to Fla.  Glad she had the courage to stay.  It's a beautiful city.  I know what you mean about the Arimidex.  I take Femara from the same family of drugs and it causes some stiffness but overall not bad at all.  I hope your body adjusts to it because it's really the best insurance policy we've got against this hideous disease.

    Take care,

    Hi everybody:

I've been off the boards more than on.  I'm in Bonita and attended the conference last year.  Got together with choca1711 and LoriFL along with lots of other FL ladies and had a wonderful time.  Thank you again Elaine!!!!

I don't think I'll be able to attend the Moffitt conference this year because my soon to be 8 yr old will be having a birthday party that weekend (his birthday is Oct 14).  But, if things change I'll let everyone know.

    Take care,

    Cathy

Hi everyone here in Florida,  I am at Fort Myers Beach.  Just finished up my last chemo tx of Taxol on Aug 7.  I start radiaion end of Aug and hopefully will be done mid October.  I had a 5cm lump, had chemo prior to surgery to shrink tumor which it did great on.  Ended up with a lumpectomy 9 mm of tissue (no reconstruction needed) and SNB also clean.  I am HER2 + so will need to continue Herceptin for a year.  I feel pretty good, except for alot of shortness of breath this last tx and just seem to exacerbate it whenever I try to do anything.  Very annoying.  Well, keepin an eye on TS Fay, might have to leave the beach for this one!  Probably will know more on Sunday.  Everyone in Florida stay safe from the storm, if it gets here, and stay well.  Deb

I will not be attending the conference either this year but maybe we should plan a get together mid state??? Anyone interested???

    Hi All,

Congratulations on finishing your chemo, Deb!!

I am in Kissimmee, so we'll get rain regardless of which coast it hits, but would you believe that a girlfriend and I booked a mini-vacation at Cocoa Beach for Tuesday-Thursday?  Surprised

Some of the computer models are showing it going up the East coast so now I don't know if we should cancel, and lose our deposit,  or go and see what happens.  I guess we'll know more by Monday.

    Hugs,

    Karen

    Hi Lori,

How long ago did you live here?  We have been here for 36 years and both our kids went to Highlands Elementary, Denn-John Middle and then Osceola High.  They were among the few in their graduating classes who started school here and finished here.

I'd be up for a get together if anyone else wants to.  It would be fun.

    Hugs,

    Karen

Well, I rebooked my mini-vacation for mid-September, keeping fingers crossed that I didn't pick another bad week.

Right now the computer models seem all over the place - I'm hoping it will veer more Westerley and totally miss all of us.

But, just in case, I'm heading to the store to get more bread, water, canned goods, etc.  We were without power for 13 days after the storms in 2004 and I was glad to have extra supplies.

    Hugs,

    Karen

Kdeit, good idea to rebook your vacation.  Seems no one for sure can predict where Fay will go.  I just finished up getting my house ready for the storm and plan to go to my sons condo which is still in a flood zone, but not as bad as living here at the beach.  Hopefully no flooding and winds wont be too strong.  I guess it is time to ride it out.  Will check in with you all when we know for sure what path Fay decides to take.  Everyone in Florida, stay safe!

Thai, I've always dreamed of living on the beach, but know that at times like this, it's not so much fun.  I hope it misses us all, but those of us who have lived through them know it's better to be prepared than have to scramble at the last minute.

We have a sailboat in a marina on the Indian River in Melbourne so my husband is going over there tomorrow morning to secure it.  Luckily, the marina is in a protected area, so we don't have to worry about moving the boat.

    Stay safe, all.

    Hugs,

    Karen

First day of school is canceled tomorrow.  I stocked up on our Hurricanes supplies and now just need to wait and see.  It's going to be a busy day at work tomorrow.  The hospital I work at has already started receiving patient from evacuation zones.  Geeze, I hate these storms.  Even if they bypass us, they cause so much disruption and so much extra work for all Floridians.  Ok, stay safe everyone. I'll be checking this thread to make sure everyone is alright.

Just heard Fay is expected to hit the Tampa area.  Are there any Tampa sisters here?  Be safe.

Joy  - That is great news on the tumor markers.  I had a dental abscess that kept coming back, right after I finished chemo.  It required a procedure to drain it...painful!  Then it came back again and had to take antibiotics.  I hope they can treat it before it gets unmanageable.  Chemo did a number on my teeth.  I had to have all my fillings re-done, two root canals, on extraction,  and crowns put in. Here I am two years after chemo and still getting work done on my teeth.  I've become a frequent flyer at the dentist. Anyway, stay safe from the storm! I hope Fay dies in the Atlantic.

Stay safe from the storm~!~ Hope Faye stays in the waters and dies out in the Gulf. We don't need any more storms up here in the panhandle!!

Our schools are going into storm plans on Wednesday.

Joy- Hope you are feeling better!

    Hi All,

I'm in Kissimmee - schools have been cancelled for tomorrow.  Right now it looks as if Fay will cross diagonally over Central Florida, sort of like what Charlie and two others did in 2004, but will not be nearly as strong a storm as they were.

    I hope everyone stays safe.

    Hugs,

    Karen

Classes were canceled for today and tomorrow.  The hospital I work at was under lock down today and non-clinical personnel was sent home at 3pm.  We were expecting a Hurricane but got a wet and wind storm.  It's headed for Naples and Fl this evening.  A wet storm is always better than a hurricane.  Let's just hope it continues as a storm and does not get strength.  Work is back to normal tomrrow.  I hope all the FL sister have hunker down for the night.  Stay safe.

    Good Morning!!

How is everyone?  It looks as if Brevard County is getting the worst of the rain and winds right now.  Here is Kissimmee we have had intermittent heavy rains and winds since early Tuesday morning, but nothing like what it could have been.

Is anyone reading this from the Melbourne area?  Our boat is at a marina in Melbourne - my husband went over Monday to secure her with more dock lines, and one of the liveaboards is keeping an eye on her.  No phone call yet, so we are hoping all is well.  Bill will probably go over tomorrow, if Fay has moved on out of the area.

    Hoping everyone is safe.

    Hugs,

    Karen

    Hi All,

So far, so good....not nearly as bad at our place as I was expecting (I feel like we cheated Mother Nature again!!) But, that tricky Fay is going into the Atlantic and then coming back for a second chance!! I hope all you guys are doing ok and not having any flooding.

BTW...denatl abcess gone after a few days on penicillin!!! RAH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Batten down the hatches for round #2. :-)

Joy - So glad your abcess is gone.  You didn't need the pain of that with the worry of the storm!!

Did you email Moffitt?  I got my invitation in yesterday's mail and am looking forward to attending.  Maybe those of us who are on this board can try to meet up with each other?

    Take care.
