First off, I have to say, I have never felt tree/grass pollen allergies to this extent before.  I don't know if it is a follow on 'benefit' of chemo and/or radiation or it is that I'm one year older.

I am very uncomfortable with a very runny nose and feeling sick to my stomach.  I've let these symptoms go on for a while.  Some days are worse than others.  Yesterday and today are pretty uncomfortable.

Any suggestions for what I can take that is a natural alternative to antihistamines, etc?

I am grateful birch trees are finished....I started those allergies in my mid 40's, and thankfully, things are getting better ...but still there.

I use Nasalcrom, which is a cromyln salt that you spray into the nose.  It is over the counter stuff and you can use it without affecting your body's whole system.

I've read that Quercetin is supposed to help with allergies as is stinging nettle.  This is the first year I'm trying Quercetin.  I surfed pubmed to see if there were any interactions with it, and I posted a thing on the hormone thread--it seems it amplifies tamoxifen, so as an intermediate metabolizer, I figure even if it does nothing for allergies, maybe I'll get a better dose of tamoxifen through my system.

    Best to you.

    Bomber,

We are just beginning an experiment with my son who seems to have a perpetually runny nose from pollens/etc. We have read that ingesting a tablespoon of LOCAL honey daily is supposed to help. It seems to follow along the same concept as allergy shots--the local honey will have traces of the local pollens that are causing the problem. WIth any luck, my son will adhere to our plan and get some relief!

    Hello-

Yes, I have heard of using local honey too, just as Diane said.  But, I heard that consumption of local honey should be started before (such as 1 or 2 months ahead of time) allergy season starts so that your body has a head start to build up immunity rather than playing catch up. .  It is very important to be sure to get it as close to the area you live in as possible.  It is supposed to work better if you get the exact pollens in your particular area.   And it is the same concept as allergy shots which works for many but not all and for the most part good results have been attained. I tried allergy shots for myself but the only thing they do for me is gave me a painfull bruise on each arm and I still remained sensistive to the pollens.  This is what I've been told by a natural path a while ago.  No harm in trying.   There are also homeopathics which do not interfere with any meds and cause no side effects.  I use the "allergy" one by the company BHI for my 11 year old and does help somewhat. Actually I use alot of homeopathic medicine with my children, it usually helps and tastes good too.  You may also want to try plain saline spray 2-3 times per day to flush out the nasal passage of any pollen.

Below is a link to various ways to treating allergies, actually from the homepage of this site you can look up various ailments and treatment options.

Hope my info helps and best of luck.
