Angie, Kim's girls are 20, 8 and 5. The grown one is married. Kim's SIL said she was planning on sitting the little ones down tonight to tell them that Mommy is dying. It's horrible--I can hardly bear to think about it.

    Nash,

Oh....I can barely see through the tears.  My heart is pounding.  I feel horrible to hear this news.  Poor Kimmie...she just never got a break like we all did.  She must be so tired. I pray for her peace and it warms my heart to know she received her afghan.  It makes me so happy to know that she is covered in the love of the ladies at the community afghan thread and all her breast cancer sisters. I will let them know.  This is so sad.   Thank you so much for keeping us updated.

    Hugs...big hugs....to all.

     Jackie

    Hi Kaye and everybody,

    nothing new really...

Feeling terrible about Kim, would be nice if there was anything we could do - especially for the kids. 8 and 5 is terribly young to go on without a mom. and then what? with their dad? if I remember well, he isn't that much in the picture... well I hope he will pull through, and be there. I am not sure how much they can understand of what the SIL is telling them... too young.

It is terrible. From what the SIL said, the dad is involved, it's just that Kim was the decision maker in the family, and he's going to be very adrift without her. The SIL and Kim are very close, so at least the kids will have their aunt around, as well as their grandma. But it's still horrible, and it makes me sick to think about it.

    Hi Ladies,

I went like a good girl for my colonoscopy today and they found a polyp!! and that I have diverticulosis.....the fun never ends.  Just a reminder for all you ladies to go out and get your colonoscopy, it wasn't that bad.   There is a direct link between breast cancer and colon cancer.  YUCK.

     Hugs, Jackie

Well Jackie, I want to personally thank you for reminding me to get MY COLON CHECKED. Arrrggghhh! I am kidding, of course - i really am glad. I had no idea of the link.

I did however know that one of the criteria for ovarian cancer is previously having breast or any other cancer. So. I have an appointment to have my OVARIES checked on July 7. Maybe I'll get a twofer' and have her check my colon as well. Then maybe I'll have her feel this other lump (in the OTHER breast that everyone and their tests - 2 ultrasounds, 1 mamo, an onc and a ps says is "nothing"), and if she can feel it i'll get the stupid thing OUT, locally. Can you tell I'm wearing a little thin with this stuff? (sheesh, kato.... breathe.)

"breathe" my arse! - I'm gonna BITE SOMETHING. or pick a scab until it bleeds.)

There. I feel SO much better.

    (hand me the band-aids)

Kaye, I just posted to you over on that thread you started yesterday regarding your good boob and the Mystery Lump.

Glad you got through the roto-rooter procedure, Jackie. I have diverticulosis, also--what fun! What are they going to do about the polyp? Do all polyps get biopsied, or can they tell by looking at it that's it's benign?

    Nash,

They removed the polyp and sent it to be biopsied.  He said it "looks" benign....not to worry, you know...the usual b.s.!!!!

    Kaye,

I can't help it if I worry about everybody!!!!LOL!!! You know my husband is a volunteer firefighter and the saying is...you go, we all go!! I just want you all to go because I went.Undecided I went to the ob/gyn this week also (I am on a check every part of my body mission) and he is sending me for an ultrasound of my ovaries and uterus because of tamoxifen and whatever.  I guess I better go get it after this polyp incident.

I know you are worried about your lump in your breast.  You have a right to be worried.  Go with your gut and push for whatever tests you need.  I say MRI of breasts (do bilateraI MRI), it's painless and shows a lot more than mammo and ultrasound.  I pray it's nothing.  Don't stop talking about it, that's what we are here for.

    Hugs, Jackie

    Hi Everyone,

I'm so sad to read about Kimmie. I had just posted something, but I must have done it wrong since the post didn't seem to take. I guess I have to figure out this newly designed site a little better. Ah, well, probably all for the best as my last post was pretty weepy. All about my own five year old and needing to reassure him the other day that No, mommy was not going to die. I just can't imagine Kimmie's SIL needing to have that conversation with those little ones. Well, that's the problem, because actually I can imagine it. OK, I better not go there again as I am getting all weepy once more.

Jackie and Kaye, I do fervently hope that all bumps, polyps, and anything else are totally b9 and just simple bumps. Jackie, I appreciate the reminder to go see my ob-gyn. You kind of forget about all your other parts when you are in BC treatment!

In a small bit of totally frivolous news, I got another haircut today. Once I started to actually have to "style" my hair, I found it was quite annoying.

    Love and hugs to all,

    DeAnn

Thanks for the reminder Jackie.  I did that before chemo because of rectal bleeding.  Everything was great.  I still have blood though, whatever!  I just saw my surgeon for my 3 month follow-up.  According to the doc, my lump is a nodule a.k.a. fatty tissue.  "Because the tissue that dies is inside you and can't fall off, nodules form"  Again, whatever!  I get my first mammogram on my new baby boobies in August. The radiologist said wait 6 months after last treatment. Anyway doc also said the mamo will show a lot of scarring and not to worry about it.  One more, WHATEVER!

    Hey Jackie...

As I have the outstanding luck to have an Ulcerative Colitis since many years, I am both familiar with colonoscopies (yuk, yuk, and more yuks, I am a total wimp there and ask for extra extra sedation), and polyps. The irritation of the colon (apparently any irritation) often results in benign polyps. It is common to have them outed and biopsied during the procedure, that is why they don't use the "camera in a pill" tool to go through - sucks really. I hate this exam.

The link between BC and CC is simply that cell degeneration happen faster in those two organs, so if we are susceptible to that... there is a higher risk. Imagine how HAPPY that makes me.

Anyway. I have my colonoscopy planned for September. Until then, WOOHOO I have a clear record everywhere, don't need EVER new mammos (fully silicone), and all my tests are outstanding.

I pray for good results for yours, and I am sure it will be fine.

Hmmm...  I had my colonoscopy in April, but I thought that I posted here about the link between bc and colon cancer...

I was lucky and they didn't find anything, so I won't have to go back for TEN years!  WHAHOO!

Jackie, hope your polyp is B-9!  Kaye, hope your lump is also B-9!

Lilith, it IS a good feeling when all our tests are finished, and we can breathe easy, until next year, when we go through some of them again!

I got saline implants, and my surgeon keeps telling me that I will STILL need mammos... I refused, and now I am getting annual breast MRIs, because they won't rupture the implants!  I am thinking that you will be also getting breast MRIs, is that right?

Well, I better go get a shower...I went out for a walk/run, and I sweat so much now!!

Hope everyone has a great weekend!

    Hi Harley.

No, no mammos nor others. Simply because I opted for a complete bilateral mastectomy, so there is no more breast tissue. Of course, checks are in order, especially on the scar and so on... :) but onc, genetician, ob-gyn all agree that I need no more mammos or MRI. :) I have silicone gummy bears, so rupture is less of a problem, follow up will be required later on only.

10 yrs without colonoscopy. How lucky. I am green with envy.

    Hey Jackie,

No, my boobs (whats left of them) are all real.  I opted for a shrinkage.  I went from a D cup to a barely B cup.  I've often wondered how flat-breasted women get mammos.  I guess I'll find out soon enough.

The good news is after years of underwires I'm now braless.  A big reason is because around here if you need a 44 they think you are at least a C cup.  Wrong!  I need to check online, just haven't done it yet.

    Lilith,

I wonder why all the drs. have such different opinions about which tests we should be getting.  I had a bi-lateral and MY surgeon told me that there is NO WAY he can be SURE that he got ALL the breast tissue, thus it will be necessary for me to get either a mammo. or a breast MRI.  Since I have these saline implants, and I don't want them to burst, and require further surgery, I asked my dr. to order the breast MRI.

Others on this site have told me that I didn't need to get mammos, either, or any kind of further screening for local recurrence, but that isn't what my surgeon said.

    Tami,

I always had very small breasts, and my mammos HURT so bad, when they squished my little breasts in that horrible machine!  I don't know how much it hurts when you have big breasts, but I would guess that would hurt also.

Hope everyone has a great weekend!

Well, my guess is that the fact that docs have different opinions means that they don't know. They are playing guess work, and using common sense.

I have also wondered about how they could tell they got out all breast tissues. I have decided to accept my docs opinions based on the following:

    - they are three of the best folks in the country I live in

    - if there is any breast tissue left, chances are it is a very small amount anyway, so the risks are much much reduced compared to just shrinkage

    - I can't see how a mammo could see anything

However, I will bring it up again with my onc. What I love in this site (among other things) is that by comparing our docs opinions and information we can actually learn so much and make better decisions!!!

Hugs and a great week-end to all.

BTW... I will be leaving early Sunday morning, and will be on the road for about 3 weeks. I will try to pop in occasionally to say HI but... if not, don't worry! I'll be fine, and will post a pic with my california tan when I'll be back...

    Until soon!

So, with all this talk of rotorooting the innards, what age are we bc patients supposed to start having colonoscopies? The general population is at 50, right? But what about us bc gals under that age?

Wouldn't that be fun if Lillith ends up in SoCal, Nash? I think she said it was Northern, but that was some time ago and the brain cells containing that data are long gone. (Sloughed-off, as it were.)

Colonoscopies: I looked through my notes and found that yes, i had a colonoscopy scheduled at my onc's request (note prior comment on brain cells) for August 28. She mentioned the link at that time (sheesh. I AM a caution for not remembering that.) So, i would venture a guess that you shouldn't wait until you're 50.

DeAnn, I think about you EVERY MORNING...i'm serious. I've lost 5 pounds because of your smoothies. I never would have believed i would eat Kale, Spinach, Lettuse, Carrots and who knows what else for BREAKFAST and LOOK FORWARD TO IT. For breakfast I make it sweeter, for lunch it's like guacamole, or gaspatcho (sp?). The point is, NO FAT, and tons of antioxidants. THANK YOU. I just do regular dinners. This is SO EASY. There is HOPE that i will fit into this killer dress I got for the wedding. I'll put a picture of it up (if i can remember how.)

    Kaye,

It's absolutely beautiful!!!! SexyKiss You go girl!!!! And losing weight? Good for you. Exactly when is the wedding? You must be so excited.

    Nash,

I was told to get my colonoscopy after I was done with treatment.  I am 47 but I would just get it anyway after treatment.  My maternal grandmother died of colon cancer so I think that's why too.  It's really not that bad and I'm all for getting any and all parts checked!!!

Hmm. I have had nobody tell me I should get a colonoscopy. I don't think I'll suggest it though! You all are braver than I!

Kaye, I'm so glad to hear you are enjoying the smoothies!  I remember when I first heard about sticking leafy greens in with my smoothie, I thought it was completely nutso. But then I tried it, and well, I find myself craving them. We went camping this weekend and, of course, no blender is available, and I REALLY missed it. I didn't even enjoy the bacon and eggs we had instead. Ok, that's kind of a lie because I sort of did enjoy them (eggs were beautiful and from a local farmer and it was my first bacon in over three months), but I really would have preferred a smoothie. Scouts honor!  Mmm. Gazpacho sounds good. I might have to make some this week! And I LOVE the dress. It looks beautiful, and you are going to be one awesome-looking mother of the bride.

Camping, by the way, is a whole lot more fun with a five-year-old along. Just so long as you don't care about actually getting anywhere on a hike.
