avitars coming back?
Comments

hi,
I love seeing everyones avitars with their posts, I think it creates such a personal look. I noticed they are not there since the changes...will they be coming back?
-
Pondfrogs/Jen -- I see the avatars, and for me they never went away. You have to be logged in to see them, but obviously you are logged in to post. I wonder if the new format doesn't mesh with your browser? Sorry to raise such a technical possibility and then not be able to help you further with it. Maybe the Tech-Admins could post browser requirements somewhere???

pondfrogs, I'm seeing avatars, too. They never went away for me.
At the very top of your Discussion Board screen, right next to the "log out" button on the right-hand side, is a link labeled "My Preferences." Click on that link and it will take you to a page showing some of your preferences. Scroll down to the very bottom of the page, and you'll see a little check-box that says, "Show me avatars in user profiles and Community Member list." My check-box is checked. Is yours? That might make a difference.

I'm thinking there are little glitches that are only showing in certain browsers. I am still having things show up in my "favorite topics" automatically--honestly, though, I LIKE that because it helps me remember where I've been! LOL!
I'm thinking that the text formatting issue for me might be FIREFOX specific. I've looked at the HTML source code for the pages and see that CSS formatting has been used; I'm guessing that the size/appearance of the TEXT AREA box is falling back to my browser's default and is the reason that I'm not seeing the same size text in the message submission box that eventually appears in the thread.
Mods/admins...could you add a default font-size line to the CSS coding for the TEXT AREA that mirrors the default font attributes of the thread posts? Right now it appears that the default font size for a post is 12pt and the TEXT AREA default is 10pt.
I also remember something about being able to use colored text with the new format but have not been able to figure out how. Did I misread/misunderstand the plans for this feature? It's not extremely important to me but I have been confused by some posts I have seen where the text is showing up grey--I haven't been able to figure out how that was achieved. I do like to use some kind of obvious indicator when formatting text in a post that is quoted from another site; I currently use quotes and italics but a different color would be helpful too.
One other readability issue for me is that there is only a very slight difference (on my monitors) in contrast on the background colors for posts---meaning the very light pinkish color that is the background for the table row that alternates with the whitish/cream color on the next table row (this is most obvious on the "active topcs" pages for me) is so subtle on my monitor that it is not as helpful as it could be. Darkening the pinkish color a shade or two would really help. The very thin table cell outline on those pages helps some but is not very prominent.
Please forgive if I have not explained this clearly! I'm having to take extra pain meds that seem to make me a bit wordy and sometimes not too plain-spoken.
I also want to make sure the mods/admins know that I truly do appreciate the hard work and can see that the changes were very well thought-out! I especially like the "preview" button and the ability to edit the preview on the same page before posting. It's helped keep my post-editing to a minimum! Being able to "collapse" the topics on the forum index page is cool, too.

Thanks mods! I think you must have done what Diane requested, about "darkening the pinkish color a shade or two" -- because I can now see it on an old monitor which until an hour ago showed everything as glaring white! Thank you, thank you, thank you!
(Diane, I hope you can see what I see! and thank you for making the request!)

BTW Pondfrogs...cute name and avitar!

It looks like you all have already successfully addressed and resolved this issue, but just to clarify, if you wish to view avatars, click on "My Home", then "My Preferences" and then select the box next to "Show me avatars in user profiles and Community Member list" under "Avatars."
