Hair gone!!!!

Well I did it last Friday night my friend took the clipper to my hair and dont be surprized that your hair hurts when it is trying to come out that was the best night sleep I had in a long time and the wig feels good. Around the house I wear a turbin its like some people feel about taking thier bra off at the end of the day. I got my wig at PK Walsh in Boston and I am so glad girls if you never do anything for your self get one that breaths its more comfortable in MO heat than my hair was. I can actually feel my hair has grown just a tiny bit since the shaving so we will see how long it takes to come back I have my 3rd and half way treatment next week. I have learnt so much on this site the BRAT diet next time to do and the hair hurting and so many things. I meet with the radioligst I have it for 6 weeks every day starting in Sept. and she was very impressed with what I had told her about this site and was going to pass it on to her patients that are having a hard time.
Thank you all for being here for all of us

Hi Maura
Glad to hear your wig feels good. Hope mine does. I am at day 14 from my first a/c treatment and my hair hasn't started falling out yet, but I have booked an appointment to get it shaved tomorrow. I know I may have several days yet to "enjoy" my hair, but I'm not looking forward to having the hair fall out in clumps so I thought I might as well nip it in the bud. I guess we will save money on shampoo and product for the next several months!
-
Yes LibraGirl we will save allot of money but I would gladly spend it on my hair, I think I will treat my hair very nicely when it comes back and have a welcome back to my head party. It is a good idea that your shaving like I said it feels better than feeling it bend and try to fall out my hair was 4.5 weeks into it before I did it and it feels so much better...you might want to wait untii some of it falls out incase its not going to..

Yeah, I was thinking maybe I was being hasty, but since my last post, I had a shower and lo and behold, right on schedule, it started coming out as I rinsed out the shampoo! As I worked in my hair product, I could feel and hear (weird, huh?) it coming off at the roots. So, I guess I'm going to go ahead and shave it as planned.
I love the idea of a "welcome back" party. Would it include giving away all your hats/wigs/scarves? I can't believe how many I am already accumulating. People keep giving them to me (at my first chemo I got a free turban; at a look good feel better workshop I got a free nightcap; a coworker gave me a fuzzy hat made by a friend of hers with alopecia; my mom has given me all her chemo hats/scarves. . .) besides all the ones I've bought for myself.
-
I had my head shaved about 2 1/2 weeks after I started chemo (4 AC and 4 Taxotere) because it was prickly and coming out in my hand. My hair took it's sweet time falling out after I had it shaved. I thought great, I had it shaved and now it won't fall out! But it did. It didn't come out all at once - just a little at time. I used one of those sticky lint rollers on my head every day to get all the loose hairs off. It felt much better when it was all gone. The scarves and hats were more comfortable too.
Good luck!

Shaved it off today and think I actually look okay except for my big ears! Tried out all my hats and scarves and found I liked about half of them. Had my wig trimmed and will test it out on my coworkers tomorrow. Now that I'm bald (well except for stubble) I discovered I have a small v-shaped scar on the back of my head that I never knew I had.
-
I also found a red type v birthmark on the back of my neck now I know my boys got thiers. Good luck with your wig I really like mine the most important thing is comfort so I didnt have a wig cap and I cut a pair of pantyhose and made a cap to hold it on and it helps allot. I ordered a few more things from the American Cancer society but I cant work with them so I am sending them back and just keeping the orginal wig and maybe ordering another hat instead.I am trying to feel my hair to see when it wil grow back while I am still on chemo..You must feel alot better with it shave I know I did...

Hi ladies well my chemo was on the 9th and the hair is now coming out. In fact in pretty good sized chunks. So I am going over to my Son and Daughter In Laws tomorrow she has clipppers and will take it off for me. Because I also think it will feel better gone and not under the wig and hats and ect.... Oh well hair today and gone tomorrow
I have to find humor in all of this. Had my blood taken today and the counts checked and they are good. So next Mon. the 30th is my next chemo day "oh joy" can't wait haa ha. But I will add I will be thrilled when it is all done and that is what I am looking forward to. I think I will make my party an end of treatment party. But yes the hair coming back in will be nice. My friend Marilyn hers started to come back in while still in treatment but near the end of it. Take care ladies and just think no more bad hair days. -
Greetings from Australia,
I have been wanting to talk to others going through this, finally I have found somewhere to go! My hair started falling out day 12 after my first AC, I wasnt expecting it that soon, but there you go...
I had every intention of shaving it all off at some stage, but couldn't bring myself to do it. Then, on June 10, I woke up and thought, "thats it, its coming off". I did it myself the next day, and my husband tidied it up when he came home, (its not easy to do the back yourself!) I didnt cry, it was a relief after weeks of hair all over the place, and that horrible sore head feeling. Now, I revel in the feeling of the shower raining down on my almost bare head. I love the loofah on it as well! My friends actually think I look better in hats and scarves than I do with hair (it was curly and unruly, never looked tidy). But its winter right now, and my poor head gets cold. Taken to wearing a beanie to bed, but I dont much like it. It feels better to wear nothing, but it freaks my son out, so I can only be bald when he's not home.
Two more AC to go, one tomorrow, then weekly Taxol for 3 months, radiation for 6 weeks, Herceptin every 3 weeks for a year. Am feeling very down at the moment, A friend is not doing very well after finding spots on spine and liver five years after BC, the press is full of the people that dont make it, I am scared and overwhelmed by it all. Is it normal to get depressed before a treatment? I am usually pretty positive, but its all too much right now.

Digithil yes it is normal my 3rd is tomorrow and I think I was having anxiety pains last night and I am usually up but its normal and if you are reading stuff in the news about people not making it that doesnt help but I always think I will make it and this is just a normal thing to do after surgery. I got a book called No place like Hope and it helps me when I have a hard time we all have our moments email me any time it does seem starnge your having winter and here its so hot and humid. This is a good place to come to these ladies are so positive I was at the point that I would break down in the grocery store and cry I was imbarrassed but after coming here I have done so well they are great support. I am not one to go to the support groups but its time with me as I work full time and have a high school son at home still and I am divorced but this is my support group...

I can FINALLY say that my hair is growing BACK. Loosing my hair was SO stressful and I was truly afraid it would not grow back. When it did start to grow back it was uneven and stressed me out MORE. I shaved my head again the end of March to even it all out. I returned to work after bilateral mast June 18th....and did so without my wig! It came back gray and curly...can't say I would choose this look for myself....but I can say my hair is back! I finally packed up my wigs last weekend. I actually get compliments. The first time I went out in public without my wig I had a lady come up to tell me how much she liked my hair!!
Know that you are not alone with how you feel about loosing your hair. I wish I had thought to look for this site when I was going through my hair loss and my impatience with how slow it was growing back.
