I'm currently on tamoxifen and the pain i experience in my teeth is unbearable. I have discussed this with my onco but she says she has never heard of this. Its driving me crazy. I feel like my teeth are going to fall out. It started when i was on chemo ACT (Sept. 2007) but never went away......I'm not sure if its the chemo or the tamox, any thoughts......

This has me curious because I am having teeth/jaw pain and assume it's from the Taxotere I'm getting for chemo. I'm on the second dose of 4 T/C teatments. Tylenol knocks it out for a while but it keeps coming back. I do have mile TMJ that was diagnosed many many years ago and wonder if it is aggravated by the chemo. Please post if you find out anything.

Hi, I am currently finishing chemo and have noticed teeth pain and sensitivity. I think it's just a by product of it. I'd discuss with your onc, but I know some side effects just go with the territory.
I was on tamoxifen for five years with nary a se ever. Never head of it from tamoxifen.
Good luck! I also had some jaw pain and jaw spasms from the chemo. I'd discuss both with your chemo nurses, sometimes the onc says "no, it's not the chemo" and turns out the nurses tell a different tale and often have coping strategies for things.

Hi djazzy,
Go by a dentist. I found that when my WBC went down, my teeth had a tendancy to abcess. Like maybe the infection was there and small but with no immunity, it flared. I had to have a root canal during my first AC tx. Check with a dentist. They may know something your onc does not. If you have a good dentist, he may research for your and find out.
I also had just dull pain. I remember commenting "Even my teeth hurt". But that was on Taxotere. Chemo is really hard on your teeth because it dries your mouth. After finishing chemo 22 years ago, I had 7 teeth abcess one right after the other. I used to have such good, pretty white teeth. Now they are all capped.

Hey djazzy
I have not started tamox yet but during chemo I went to the dentist for a check up and he gave me some cool stuff for mouth dryness. One was a cream that I would have to dig up to find the name but the other was a spray called Rain. He said that mouth dryness can cause all sorts of discomfort and "referred pain". I did not consider my mouth dry but it did help with my mouth discomfort. Make an appointment with your dentist and let them know your issues. Good Luck!
Ellie
