Last month I planned a trip to my native country the Dominican Republic, the worst part was to find a mastectomy bathing suit,  the mastectomy bathing suits are very expensive and I could not afford the prices.  Ninety dollars for a bathing suit is beyond my means. I bought a regular tankini I decide to stuff the bra with the "scrounge" thing that some of the ladies have mentioned.  It looked awful but I used anyway. The first time I went in the water the thing slipped down, it was embarrasing.  Right there I decided I was not going to use any stuffing,  I didn't have to feel embarrased because my right breast is gone.  I did not ask for this illness it just  happened and  I don't have anything to be ashamed of.  After that first day I strolled up and down the beach like nothing was wrong or different about me.  and I must say that did not noticed anybody looking at me weird or anything.  I am sharing this just in case somebody else is feeling self conscious about going to the beach or the local pool.  Just enjoy the summer.

Good thoughts, Ana.  I've found that people really don't notice us, in general, as much as we self-consciously think they do.  Everyone is usually much more involved in their own issues and lives to notice much about anyone else.

Good for you.  I have a reconstructed breast and it didnt turn out like it should have.  Im not perfectly even and I am done with the surgery route!  Its been a several years (6) and I can tell you that at this point I just don't care anymore.  Sure I'd love them to be the same and "perfect" LOL but thats not the case and life is to short.  Enjoy your summer, as Tina said nobody really notices it like we think they do.

    Take Care,

    Barb
