My husband and I went to Hawaii for our 25th anniversary, five and a half months before my bc dx. I was ever so greatful that we went when we did, because I've always wanted to go there. We both totally enjoyed it. After my dx I wasn't sure I'd ever get to go back, and I do want to. So the photo reminds me of a happier time in my life.

I also had several ones.  I started w/ a "crazy chicken" moving her head side-to-side, when our avatars were animated... and then I had a boy "wee-wee" against a butterfly, again also animated.

Now, I have my other crazy chicken that kats created for me a long time ago.

    Hello,

So many have inquired about my avatar!   How do you know it's not really me?  lol

I came across this picture somewhere online and it freaked me out so bad I had to have it.  I used it as my screensaver at work for ahile but was really creeping out my co workers.

So after chemo in 2005, when my hair was coming back in with that whispy white stuff, I remembered this picture.  There is a woman in the chats that put together pictures of chatters and this is the picture I submitted.  She added the Watson to it and I restole it for here.

Try to enlarge the pic somehow and give it a good stare.  Gives you the heebie jeebies!

    Love,

    Watson

My avatar is a photo of Isabella "the wonder cat." She is the survivor among three newborn kittens we found in our garage the night we got home from my staging tests prior to chemo. I was pretty traumatized and sure I had mets because they had called me back for x-rays of several areas in my spine that "lit up" on the bone scan (my arthritis, it ended up), then said I couldn't get the results until my onc returned following the long weekend. Bottle feeding three kittens was a good distraction during that "weekend from hell." The two sibs were weak and didn't make it but Isabella beat the odds. Our vets call her "the miracle cat." She has grown to be an incredible cat, beautiful (IMO), friendly, playful, a little weirdly human in some ways (reaches her front legs up asking to be picked up). She is a daily reminder of survival against the odds.

I have a much better pic of her which I realize I meant to switch to- this back of the couch one doesn't do her justice.

Sorry, no mystery for mine--it's pretty obvious!

Look in Wikipedia, under "otter", and you'll see the original.  I saw it, and just loved it 'cause it shows how river otters act with each other.

To be fair and proper, I need to acknowledge that according to Wikipedia, the photographer was Dmitry Azovtsev (http://fotki.azovtsev.com), and the pic is licensed for use under the Creative Commons Attribution License.  I've included the attribution on the avatar, but it's hard to see with such a tiny pic.

Mine is simply me at a happier time in my life.  I had just turned 40 and felt pretty damn good considering ...the pic was taken at my best friends wedding and I was her maid of honor.  Little did I know that the next year I would be pregnant and the year after that I would be dx'd with BC.  I feel I've aged 10 years since that pic and sometimes feel like I'm 90!  Having my baby made me so very happy but then getting dx'd with BC just totally rocked my world.

Hi I love this thread too. My picture is of me hiking with my good friend after she had a stroke and recovered enough to go camping. She took the picture and I thought it was awful. Now, I think I look pretty good. It was some really good girl time even though Lisa still has trouble speaking. She talked until 2am. I have not taken many pix of me after chemo. I don't know if I want to remember this time.

Mine is a cropped photo from our family photo from my nephews wedding last fall.  Just 2 weeks before this I competed in my 1st 24 hour adventure race.  I thought I was in the best shape of my life.  Little did I know I probably had breast cancer growing in me for quit a while.  The next month I turned 40 so I had my 1st mamo in Jan when it was time for my yearly exam.  And this is how I came to join all of you...Thanks so much for all the support along the way...

Mine is a tattoo I got in 2005 when I walked in the Komen 3 Day with my sister and a friend. I got it for my two sisters and I. At that time my sister was a 16 year survivor, now going on 19 years! I now want the T-shirt that says, "I walked 60 miles and got Breast Cancer twice!" Might not be a best seller...

Mine used to be my mug shot, but I decided to change it around the time all the Google craziness/"outting" of bc sisters was going on. Trouble is I couldn't find anything I wanted to "represent" me that was generic but memorable. I found this illustration on Photobucket and loved it - since I often wear my hair in pigtails when I train or compete in karate. Her head's a little bigger than mine and I'm a few shades darker, but she represents for me the joy I get from karate...

I originally had a picture of myself that was cropped from a group picture taken at a "girls" weekend prior to my dx. I removed it when there was so much stuff about googling posts on this site and now I can't get anything else posted.

I have it in photobucket, have resized it to avatar size and am copying the IMG link, but when I paste it in my profile and hit save it just sits there and never saves. Anyone know what's wrong with it?

Oh Sam, I wish I could help you!  I have the worst time doing pictures on this website.  It takes me hours.

    Great stories, ladies!

I don't think you all need me to explain why I picked this picture as my avatar. *lol*

Sam, you have to save your avatar picture on to your computer, not anywhere on the internet. Just save it, hit the "browse" button in the avatar section on your profile page, then navigate to where you have save the picture. Don't forget to hit "Save" button before exiting the page.

    Hugs,

    Fumi

Thanks for your help Fumi!  I thought they had to be in photobucket in order to show up. I copied it to my computer and have saved it, keeping my fingers crossed it works.

Edited to say: Well I can see it, hope you all can! I chose this because it not only says I'm a devout chocoholic, but I'm also a chocolate lab lover -- have 2 of them and would have more but my dh would kill me and I'm not sure I could keep up with the hair, but I love them.

My avatar was taken last november when I went to Wales to visit my family, it looks just like I do now. I have had several pictures to commemorate different milestones etc, super short hair, super curly hair, etc etc.

This picture, I like, I am not the most photogenic chick in the world but I don't mind this one.
