I finished my rads on May21 and I still have 2 spots that are not yet healed.  Since I am back a work, I put Aquaphor on them and cover them with gauze pads when I dress, then use the silver sulfa... burn cream on them when I undress after work.

Anyone had burns last so long??

    Just wondering..........

I had one very large blister under the skin flap along my bra line. It took about 3 weeks to clear up. I didn't wear a bra, I wore a camisole instead. I tried to go without anything for a brief time at night to allow the air to kind of dry it out. I hope this is helpful.

Oh yes. My burns and broken down skin were a problem for WEEKS. every time I moved it rubbed and hurt. I used ordinary Corn Starch like a powder, it really helped keep the worst areas really dry, and it helps the skin slide rather than rub. There was about three weeks where I couldn't wear a bra at all. Used it under the breast which was the worst, and under my arm which was pretty badly burned as well. Stayed in, mostly, with arm propped up. Camisoles are really nice.  But do NOT neglect your arm extension exercises, try and keep full range of movement. Good Luck with that, it will pass.

I have large breast and got severe burns under my breast from radiation.  A god send was a medicated patch I got from my pharmacy.  It is made by Johnson and Johnson, is put in freezer/frig to be cool and contains sometype of numbing/burn healing med.  I started using the pads on a Friday night and by Mon was 20000000 percent better.  check with them for it.  Well worth the $30 to buy.... Good luck.

Thank you for the tips.  I have had 23 treatments and I have 7 more to go.  Over the last couple days, my under arm has really gotten burned......it just feels raw.  Luckily the rest of my breast feels fine.  I will definitely try and corn starch and these medicated patches.  Thank you!

alexismom - I am hoping that you still read this forum from time to time.  I see that you purchased a medicated pad from Johnson and Johnson, hmmm   By any chance do you know the exact name of this medicated pad?

I have a bad burn particularly in the area of my underarm, and also on my areola and nipple.  (the area on the areaola and nipple is really beginning to crack and peel) and underarm area is really very red.

The RADS Oncologist first prescribed me a cortisone cream but I took a reaction to it, and then prescribed me a silver sulfadiasine cream and some areas surrounding underarm and areas of breast not burned I develop a rash that looks like I am taking a reaction to this.  But especially the area where I put the sulfa cream only gets redder and starts to itch and burn some, looks like blistering starting up and looks like it is creating some dead skin too.  hmmm

I think I might even like to try and give this medicated pad a try...  I finished radiation on March 30th, and started it on March 2nd (I started burning around the 10th day).

    Thanks, Charmaine
