I was diagnosed yesterday with adenocarcinoma of the right breast.  The surgeon removed a 3.2 cm lump last Wednesday and because of the holiday, it took longer for the biopsy results to come back.  I have an appt with the oncologist tomorrow morning.  To think I was worried about drinking too much caffeine while pregnant, and now I am going to give my baby chemo!!!

Has anyone gone through breast cancer while pregnant?

yes-I found out I was pregnant last year, June 1, 2007, the same day of my breast biopsy.  I found out the next week that it was a 1.5cm malignant tumor with positive margins.  My surgeon recommended that I terminate and sent me to see my ob/gyn.  Well, my ob was out of town, so my mom, my husband and I sat down and talked with one of her partners, he suggested we terminate.  I hadn't had surgery or anything, cancer hadn't been staged yet.  all we knew was that my biopsy was positive.  I went for a 2nd opinion at UNC chapel hill.  I had a lumpectomy with sentinel node biopsy on my 13th week of my pregnant.  My oncologist recommended watching my tumor markers, and waiting until after my baby was delivered to start chemo/radiation since my cancer was stage 1, er+, pr-, her2nu- with no lymph node involvement. now, I have a 5month old daughter, just finished 33 treatments of radiation and getting ready to have my 2nd treatment of cytoxan and taxotere.  I was only 4-5weeks pregnant when I found out, the exact same day of my breast biopsy.  The lord definitely knew what he was doing when he put this on me.

How far along are you in your pregnancy

    Hi Katiesmommy,

I also found this lump just after I found out I was pregnant at the end of Feb.  But b/c of the waits at all of the offices I wasn't diagnosed until May 28th.   I just had a radical modified mastectomy with 3/18 nodes positive on June 10th.  I am currently 19 weeks pregnant and due on Nov 8th!  I am scheduled to start chemo on June 27th.  I have read lots of positive stories about babies being born after given ac therapy, so I am not as worried.   I am also going to UNC on wed for my second opinion.  Are you a NC mommie too?

Have you visited the Pregnant with Cancer website? They can send you great reading materials and even pair you up with a support person who has been pregnant with cancer.

Best wishes to you and your baby.

Oh, yes I did.  They sent me a great packet of copies of newspaper clippings of moms who went through chemo while preg and how healthy their babies turned out.  I also got matched up with a support person.
