    Hi Ladies,

So if your read this post from the bottom up, you go from cracking up to somber moments.

On the lighter side ... D1, watermelon baby shampoo???  So what kind of dog do you have?  Been there, done that with the teeth cleanings and extractions.  I swear we've spent 10 times as much on our dogs teeth than our own.

Look out VA, if your family is showing up!  Sounds like you'll be preparing for a fun 4th.

How bout those hot flashes ... mine have gone from just in the eve and night to catching me during the middle of the day.  Had to grab a magazine at the lunch table today to combat one, the guys are going to have a hay-day with this one!!!  Maybe I could wear my "fan on a string" to work, now there's a sight!

Kimberly, happy to report that I looked to see if Steph's car was back at work this afternoon, he had told me if his appt went well he was coming back to work this afternoon.  YEAH ... I saw his car and had to stop at the bldg he works at to give him a couple very big hugs.  His report showed that his tumors both lung and liver had not spread elsewhere and also showed no apparent growth.  He was planning on going to NV to see his Mom in a few weeks and his Dr (who is my Dr), said go and have a good time.  He will be starting with more chemo upon his return.  Needless to say he had a little getty-up in his step this afternoon.  I told him I asked for a few extra good vibes be sent his way and he was very gracious.

Aaaahhh, its gotta feel good to have those drains gone and be able to take a shower.  What's up with the bug bites???  Didn't that little bugger know what you've been through???

Kind of a bummer about the re-schedule of your cleaning, but I guess in the grand scheme of things its pretty minor.  I've been trying real hard to take that motto, and keep my knickers out of knot over things that aren't really that big of a deal.  As my dh says, "it will all work out".  This used to pissed me off when I was spun up over some trivial thing, but you know, what he is "almost" always right.

Jennifer, sounds like a case of the weepies is what you may need right now.  I'm so sorry to hear about your friend's son.  It doesn't matter what the circumstances may be, I can't imagine having a child and feeling helpless to try and make things be okay.

Talking about cooking, I've been close to non-existent in the kitchen.  I think other than a chicken recipe of Kimberly's I havn't had a cookbook out in 8 months.  It's about time for me to get geared up.  Hate to say it, but I've really missed not having a little nipper of vino while puttering in the kitchen.  So I havn't puttered!!!

Norma, glad to see your post, and thanks for sharing the great news on your PET.

Sounds like your still close with your ex-bil and your supporting him the best you can.  This whole cancer thing sucks, point blank!!!

I've been getting a kick out of the hair stories, I have about 3 weeks of "shedding" yet to do.  And as many of you, its will be time to get back to the "old" color, not this "old" salt and pepper look!

Kris, getting closer all the time to the end of your txt.  I'll be about a month behind you on the Tamo gig!!!  Thanks for popping in.

Joan, boy with all my complaining about a long txt regimen, time does seem to be flying by.  It seems like just a couple days ago you we're starting your rads, and now your almost done.   I'm not hearing about any ugly se's, so I take it your doing pretty well.

Speaking of Joan's white board, my chest has that look tonight as well.  Went in today for my simulation.  Happy to report that even the tats were not "stimulating".  I think somebody else (maybe Paula) had mentioned that they we're still numb in the area where the tats we're done, I'll ditto that.  They did do one clear on the otherside of my remaining breast.  Seemed like a strange place, but what the heck, I did feel that one, but no big deal.  I'll be starting on 23 June, with 35 blasts.  As I looked at my calendar, that will give me about 3 days before I'm ready to leave on "cation".  I initially thought that it was 6 weeks of txt, but it appears to be 7.  Shucks!!!

I'm off tonight to a seminar at the local hospital entitled, "Knowledge is Power".   Its supposed to discuss the most current technology in detecting bc.  I called to see if it would be appropriate to listen in if you had already been diagnosed.  The answer was overwhelmingly "yes".

Tomorrow I'm working in the morning, then off to the Seattle side of the pond with my gf who is also walking the 3 day.  We're heading to Ginny's house, having dinner, spending the night, and off to a 10 mile training walk at 6:30am Sat morning.  Following that there is an Expo to help prepare us newbies for the 3 Day Experience.  I'm really looking forward to having my gf meet Ginny.  She is one heck of a woman and been so supportive to me the past 6 months.  Not having a Mom around myself, she has definitely been that and more to me throughout my journey.  As I told her, she is the "coolest" older person I know.

So, more than likely I'll be MIA til Sat night, I'll be hoping for a great Friday for you all, and to those dealing with the wicked weather, I'm thinking of ya.

    Night, Carol

Carol:  Yes, that was my look of somewhat fear of that bird.  I love animals, but have never had a bird.  I was a little nervous of what he'd do while I was holding him/her-but thank God it was well-behaved.  It probably was thinking "please, let me fly away so this chick will release me from her death-grip!"  BTW, I have my boobie hat on and the Jewels T-shirt... it may be hard to see in that picture.  People LOVED them!

My herceptin infusions are every 3 weeks.  They are 1 ½ hr infusions., but I'm usually there about 2 hrs. total.

Hope you're feeling good today and the SEs are not so bad.

D1:  Proud mama!  Sounds like dd is one smart chick!

If I may add to your comment/question about supplements... add calcium.  Most multivitamins do not have enough.  Adult women should take 1000-1200mg/day.  And remember to spread it out over the day; your body cannot and will not absorb it all if you take it all at the same time.

PALady:  Good to hear from you again.  I am happy to read that your scan was clear.  Major relief to you, I'm sure.

Sorry to hear about your ex-bil.  Remind me again what type of CA he has?

I may have to try some Sun-in on my hair.  I, too, am coming in much darker than my previous blonde.

Kimberly:  Poop... sorry you had to reschedule your cleaners.  I spent part of yesterday interviewing some services.  I think I may do 1-2 times a month, just the bathrooms and our first/main floor-but it will give us back some time to do other things.  I'd like to start by the end of this month.

Some "hair" comments... I let my brows grow in most of the way without touching them (it took about 2-3 weeks), and then went and had them reshaped and waxed.  They look awesome now!  The "down there" hair is crazy.  It came in slowly, but now has just taken off.  It is really thick and soft (sorry to be so open and graphic, but I just can't believe it).  Holy cow...bring on the weed whacker-hee hee!  I'm trying to keep it under control so I don't look all unkempt (sp?).

And congrats on no drains.  Free at last!

Jenn:  So sorry to hear about your friend's son.  That is such a shame.  My thoughts and prayers are with you both.

Julie:  Your book club night sounds fun.  I used to do one also and really enjoyed  the girl time, plus reading a good book.

That's it for me tonight.  Probably won't be able to check in again until Sunday.  Another busy weekend ahead.  Don't chat too much while I'm gone!

    Hey JJs,

Lying in bed with the laptop, just finished reading the posts.

Jenn- I will be praying for Melissa and her son. What a terrible situation for any mother to be in!

PALady- Great news on the PET Scan. Trying to remember what was going on with you that you had one... was it leg pain? I saw my onco yesterday and he diagnosed me as RLS (restless legs syndrome). Says it is a side effect of chemo that causes peripheral neuropathy (like Taxol/Taxotere). He referred me to a neurologist for further eval and started me on Mirapex in the mean time.

Hope your ex-bil does well with his treatment. What type of cancer does he have?

Your brother was so young when he was diagnosed. I'm glad he had 10 extra years with your family. I know you cherished those days!

Carol- how's the tummy? Congrats on graduating from the Cream of Wheat (COW) diet Laughing

Excellent news about Steph! Please tell him we're all sending good thoughts to him!

I hope you enjoy your outing and the training this weekend!

Sherry= you've had a lot on your plate lately. Don't try to go back and catch up (you can do that later when things settle down for you!), just move forward. Good to "see" your posts again!

D1- congrats on your dd's accomplishments!

Joan- you're finished with the whole breast treatments tomorrow, right? I'm looking a little "sunburned" here--esp. my chest right below my collar bone. I'm a bit uncomfortable but managing okay.

Kimberly- I'm coming to Palo Alto August 5-15. Dd will be at Stanford the whole time and I'll be roaming around taking in the sites (probably just me, but not sure about that yet). I would love to meet you while I'm out there!

Kathy- they still make Sun-In? I put that on my hair about 20 years ago and turned my hair a lovely shade of orange! Guess I'll have to wait for the highlights...

Julie- hope you get the pool going for this weekend!

Dh started his clinical trial today. First day wasn't so bad. Onco cleared him to travel, so we're on for the trip to Dallas next week. We'll fly out Tuesday.

Looking forward to the down time that will follow after that trip is over. I'm ready for a break!

Take care all--have a good Friday.

    Paula

    Good Morning Gals,

Thankfully the biter didn’t bring his friends in for a feast last night, but the rash from the Tagederm has arrived. I have a nice square patch of red rash on either side of my body where the tubes once resided. Ahh well, it isn’t like I’ll be struttin’ around in a bikini or anything for awhile. The good news…there won’t be any further need of any kind of adhesive upon my body…other than a port flushing Bandaid, which stays on for such a short length of time…like 20 minutes tops before I yank it off. I see the breast surgeon on July 1st , so I’ll be asking her when that port can come out.

Oh, and may I say my shower this morning was fabulous. Sleeping on my side last wasn’t happening though as I have internal stitches under each breast due to the lift that felt like they were pulling when I tried. Those may need a little more time to heal before I attempt that full on sleeping on the side thing. I can do a partial thing though, and that is at least something better than on the back all night.

Jenn- I am so sorry about the situation your bff finds herself in today. I can’t even imagine how devastating that must be to have your son lying in a drug induced coma and not knowing if he’ll live of his own accord, if he’ll live, but with brain damage, or if you will have to make that choice no parent wants to make for their child. It just makes no sense when our kids make choices like this.

I will be sending out positive energy to your bff, to her friends and family, and to her son in hopes that it helps provide the strength needed to get through whatever is meant to be at this moment and every moment of this chapter.

Jenn, estrogen is made in fat cells, but it’s not the same type of estrogen that is made in the ovaries. Check out womenshealthnetwork.com to read more about the three different types estrogens. I’m going to send you The Schwartzbein Principle. If after reading about the what, how, and why’s of our endocrine system and the effects of one that is out of whack, and find you are interested in what it has to say, get her most recent book, The Program, which will walk you through the 5 Steps.

Even though you’ve got some stuff goin’ on, you’re sounding really strong, girl!!!! I’m topless all the time, too. Haven’t worn my wig more than a handful of times, and certainly not at all after my last tini.

Cooking? Bravo!!!! What did ya end up making?

Hunker down for that impending weather.

D1- What a wonderful thing…the family portrait with multi-generations included. I so hope your mom will decide to come along.

I’m thinking I will have my toes and nails done next week before I head out to Chicago, and maybe another facial since I’ve got a gift certificate to spend. Ohhh…just took a time out to book that…12:30 on the 20th. WhooHoo…I can’t wait! Afterwards, it will be off to Kathleen’s house to stay the night and then up early the next morning to head out for our adventure.

LOL on your pup talking trash, even before the diet was imposed, for sportin’ a watermelon shampoo smell.

Julie – Bummer about the pool pump acting up. Hope the dh can gt in there and fix it so the pool can be cleaned up and ready for the weekend.

Isn’t school out for you? Are you just tying up lose ends so you’re ready for the fall?

Last filler up today. My expanders were 600cc volume, and I had 100cc’s when I first left the hospital. I did the full 600 in order to get a good enough skin stretch, and the ps wanted to overfill so I’d have plenty of skin to eventually obtain a naturally breast crease, but after 600, I was soooo done. My implants were filled to 520 on the right and 540 on the left in order to be even. I’m very happy with the new foobies even though they haven’t ‘fluffed’ out yet as Therese would say. I wonder how she’s doing, anyway.

Carol- Speaking of Hot Flashes…loved the card I got in the mail yesty. Thank you so much…cracked me up!!!!

I am soooo happy for Steph!!!!! Just look at what Jewel power can do!!! …and you were off last night to get ya some more power, eh? Interested to hear what you learned.

A sleep over. How fun. Have a fabulous Sat. with your gf and Ginny. Sounds like a fabulous way to spend the day.

    See ya on line, Sunday.

Kathy – LOL on the weed whacker comment!!!! Have a great weekend. I too will be gone tonight through Sat, so won’t be checking in until Sunday, either.

Paula – Glad to hear from you. Guess the tests went well since Ed started with the clinical trial. I’m so glad that you’ll be able to take your trip to Dallas next week ,but totally understand the ‘down time’ you’re talking about…just doing nothing you have to do like work or whatever.

We’ll have to coordinate with Carol. She wants to come out earlier than Kent, so maybe she can fly into Sacramento, and I can pick her up, and we can head down to Palo Alto.

When Kent flies into Sac, he can rent a car, and she and I can meet up with him…or something like that. How fun to meet you both at the same time!!!!!

Take care gals, and have a great weekend. We will be leaving around 3pm to pick up twinsis and her beau before heading out to Murphy’s for the concert. We’ll be staying the night and coming home the back way through the Amador and Fair Play wine country to pick up our Fleur D’Lys shipment.

    Good Friday afternoon ladies,

Carol - Happy (belated) Anniversary! Wow, what a first year.  Sounds like you got a keeper. I want to do the Reach to Recovery program too. I did not have a good mentor at all - it was quite disappointing. I think you have to be one year out from treatment to be a mentor. You will definitely be a good one. So did you ever find out how to go to a specific page on a thread? I have tried doing it on a couple of threads and it can take a long time to find what you're looking for going page by page.  High five on being done with your chemo! So do are all these training walks done in big groups of whomever is going to do the 3 day? I am trying to figure out how you keep meeting all these people. I had to laugh at your comments about dh keeping his eyes open. My oldest just had his senior portraits done ( why they do it now is beyond me) but he came home complaining how the photographer kept making him hold his eyes open. Some of them came out really weird looking as he is a squinter also. Have fun on your sleepover.

Tina - so sorry to hear about your cat. That would be hard to do, but you know you did right by her. Great picture of your ds. He looks a lot like you. I am sure you will be busy trying to get ready for the graduation party.  My oldest will be a senior next year so I am taking in all the advice I can from friends that are graduating this year.

Kimberly -Your trip sounds fantastic! We have been to Phoenix, but not made it up to the Grand Canyon.  Thanks for the details! I loved your dog story, too. How nice to have a cleaning lady. I had one for a short period of time when I was babysitting. Figured that would be  great place to spend the money. Now, since I don't work out of the house, I feel too guilty to spend the money on it. I have always said if I ever go back to work, that is the FIRST thing I will do with the money cause I don't like doing it myself! Congrats on being done with your treatment! It is a wonderful feeling, isn't it? Nice pic of you and dh. Have a fun weekend !

LJ - Congrats on your path report! That is wonderful to hear. When was your last chemo? Your hair sounds like it is at the same stage as mine.

Paula - It is so good that you have a medical background for all you guys are going through. And what a bonus to have Ed's niece help you. Like Kimberly said, someone has to be in the 25% responders - might as well be Ed! You have got to be just about done with your rads - sounds like you are holding up pretty well.  How cool you will get to meet Carol and Kimberly.  What is your trip to Dallas for - pleasure?

Kathy - How is your tattoo coming along? I met a lady at that young survivor meeting who was 6 years out. She said she had a double mastectomy and tattoos done on her implants and she loved them. Thought they were better than the original! Congrats on raising $1200 - that is awesome! Sounds like your relay was great. I love the pictures!

Jenn - You sure have had the storms lately. I get the restless legs sometimes, too and figured out it was from the decongestant I take each night. I get them about an hour to an hour and a half after I take it. I need to either be fast asleep at the time or wide awake, otherwise I am moving all around like you. Are yours getting any better? I have heard of putting the bar of soap under the sheets of you bed for cramps, I would try that - just to see. I think you are the first to go with the hair color. I am just about ready to do mine. I have a feeling I will be done with my headcoverings in a week or so. So sorry to her about bff's son. That is heartbreaking. Will definitely keep him in prayer.

Julie - We have an above ground pool that we opened two weeks ago. It wasn't too bad but is still a little cloudy. I have taken in three samples to the pool store, change the filter cartridge, etc. It is driving me crazy. The kids can at least swim in it now, but I'd like it to be crystal clear! Ds(12) had a little pool party on Monday to celebrate the end of school. It was his first boy/girl party. It was funny watching how they all interacted. Love your pictures - you and ds have great smiles! Ya gotta love a night out with the girls. Glad you had fun!

D1 - Like you I feel like I am 100 years old at times the way my legs make me hobble. It's ridiculous. I am jealous of all the traveling you and Cathy do! When we were kids we took vacations every year. We did a lot of camping though as a way to save money. Even drove up to Alaska when I was in 3rd grade! My dad had taken a month off of work and we just worked our way up there. Dh and I are not that adventurous I guess, but there are sites I would like my kids to see such as Mount Rushmore and Washington, DC., etc. Congrats on doing your relay. I think I am passing this year although I teeter back and forth on wanting to do one.

Carla - Congrats on being done with chemo! I hope you are well.

Maz - What a nice pic of you and ds. Good for him for turning himself around. That has got to be so hard for you. He must get his height from his dad? ;)

Cathy - Sounds like you are doing well with your rads. How many do you have to do total? You certainly lead an interesting life.

Joan - your survivor's day sound really nice. Glad you are almost done with rads. Are you done with your treatment then?

Sheshe - hope you are going to recover quickly from the rads. I feel for you. Just think you are almost done.

Dana - Hope you are doing well. As always, keeping you in prayer.

I have had a busy week. Ds# 3 had a pool party on Monday to celebrate the end of school. Ds#2 turned 15 on Wednesday. Today Ds#1 and I had to go do running around getting working papers for his first job (yeah!) and went and test drove some cars. We have 2 suv's and truck. I am ready to trade in my Pilot for a car. These gas prices are just ridiculous and we really don't need three gas hogs.

Paula and Kathy - My bil has apocrine carcinoma. If you have ever seen/heard of it, I am open to any suggestions. He was seeing the onc at 3:00 so I am anxious to see what they say.

    Whew I am caught up!

Happy Friday the 13th!!!  Great day today.  I went to the gym, natch.  Then I went over to the high school to meet with dd and her counselor.  We talked colleges and the counselor convinced dd to take the ACT test (it's not as popular here as it is in the Midwest, but I think it's a better test than the SAT).  At least I hope she convinced her...  Then college girl and I had lunch together (we went out!) and then ran a couple of errands.  The girls are going to cook dinner Saturday night as a Father's Day gift, since dh is the main cook in our house.  Then we'll have dinner at his parents' house on Sunday to celebrate with his dad.  Anyway, the girls want to make an ice cream cake from scratch for dessert and they need to get started today so the layers have time to freeze up.  Should be interesting.  I told them I'd grill burgers if they'd do the rest.  What fun.  They're also going to make him a t-shirt.  I made one of their hand and footprints when they were 2 and a newborn, so a remake is in order!

    What are you guys doing?

Julie-I noticed your post popped up at the same time as mine last night.  OMG you get banana rum punch at book club?  I think I need to join one!  The candle is grapefruit/berry.  Sounds like a weird combo, but it really smells fresh.

Carol, my dog is a schnoodle (mini schnauzer/mini poodle combo).  I didn't think I'd get so attached, but I'm crazy about our dog.  I'm having all kinds of visions about the anesthesia and I'm sorry to say it keeps bringing tears to my eyes to think bad things could happen to her.  If anyone has good stories to share about anesthetizing their dog, please share (I don't want to hear ones that didn't turn out well.).  Yeah, I want a photo of you dressed for work with your fan on a string!  Maybe your summer camp assignment can be to make colorful lanyards to coordinate with your outfits...

Great news about Steph-I hope he has a good visit with his mom and is recharged for his next round of chemo (can you imagine the strength of character he must possess?).  I'll keep thinking good things for him.

Ewwww, SIS Kimberly, bug bites in bed?  Hope you don't have a case of bedbugs-they're a BITCH to get rid of.

Have a great weekend, KathyL!!  And thanks for the calcium reminder.  It's funny you'd mention it as just yesty I was adding up the calcium I get from my vitamin/OJ/yogurt every day and learned I'm still coming up a little short.  Anyone have a calcium supplement they can recommend?

You sound good, Paula.  Glad you got the trial started for Ed.  I remember how much anxiety eased once I got my tx underway-even if they did make me feel like shit at times.  I hope you guys are able to put all of this out of your minds and enjoy Dallas.

I'm sure you're already using a plethora of pillows, SIS Kimberly, but they may help with the side sleeping thing till you heal up.  Have a great time in the Second City-it's one of my favorite towns.

PALady, my dd gets her senior portrait done next week.  You may want to tell ds to rest easy as Chad Michael Murray on "One Tree Hill" is a major league squinter and, heck, he's a TV star!

So, I'm driving to the gym this morning, and since it's only in the low 80's and I haven't showered, I'm driving along with the windows all down and the sunroof all the way open.  Unlike me, I tune in to the Oldies station instead of NPR because the road noise makes talk radio fruitless.  Suddenly I hear the trademark chord that starts Elton John's "Bennie and the Jets."  The non-crier here almost lost it.  That was one of the songs I'd loved as a teen and hearing it took me right back to that summer in '74 when I got my license and first drove with the music up and the windows down.  It made me happy to realize that I made good choices in my cancer battle and now I'm here today to celebrate.  What a sap.

Anyway, hope this Friday the 13th is lucky for all of you.

Hi JJs!  dd is ready for the dance recital tomorrow.  ds has a "date" with one of his preschool teachers, who also doubles as a sitter for us recently.  No way I'm making a 2 ½ year old boy sit through a girls' dance recital that usually last 2-3 hours.  He'd rather enjoy some one-on-one time with one of "his girls", as he calls his teachers!  My parents are coming down from PA for the big day, too.

Right now the kids are in bed and dh is off to the grocery store.  So I had some time to check in here (bonus!).

Paula:  Glad you will be able to go to Dallas.  Hope you have a nice time.

Yes, they still make Sun-in.  It used to work beautifully to highlight my blonde hair before (I could skip the salon highlights all summer).  But now I wonder if it will make my new brown hair orange-y like you mentioned.  Hmmmm....

Kimberly:  Glad you are sleeping more comfortably.  I'm sure each night will get better.  I wish I could get rid of my cyborg-port soon, but alas, I'm stuck with it until next year sometime.  I hear removing it is a cinch.

Can't wait to hear the details of your weekend.  It sounds like you have another great one planned.

PALady:  I have to say I'm not too thrilled with my tattoo now that it is healed.  Maybe I'm just being critical, but I think it could be better. First of all, the color is funny-looking since it's one tone, not a mix of shades.  And she really didn't get the shape right either. I'm going to ask her to touch it up when I see her next month if it still looks strange.  But the rest of the breast (implant and nipple) look fine.

I must say I don't know of anyone who's had apocrine carcinoma (but as you said, it's rare, plus I'm not an onco-nurse).  I will help you in anyway I can though if you want to bounce general stuff off me.

D1: My chocolate lab had knee surgery about 4 years ago and did great with it.  They kept him in the doggie hospital overnight to monitor him; we couldn't visit him, but they called to give us updates and tell us he did well.  The next day when we brought him home, he was groggy, but did great overall-a lot of sleeping. He kinda lounged around on a bed we had for him on the first floor (near a door to go outside when he had to go). Get a nice soft, clean area for your dog to lie on when she comes home, and ask what type of food to feed her, too.  I can't remember what we fed Sam, but he wasn't really into eating until the next day.

For Father's Day...dh got to go to the Red Sox game last month when he was in Boston (he asked for it as an early FD gift).  Tomorrow he's golfing with his dad, and my dad.  My dad and stepmom are visiting for the weekend (tomorrow's dd's dance recital), so maybe we'll all go out for breakfast somewhere, too.

For calcium... I like the Viactiv chews b/c I can pretend it's chocolate (or whatever flavor I've bought for the month).  Plus they are 500mg each, so I can take one or two depending on my other calcium intake for the day.  My multivit is Centrum Women's with calcium; it has 400mg in it.  I don't really like it too much b/c it's huge and I am not a good pill-taker, but it's got a lot of good stuff in it, so I gag it down daily.

Hope everyone has a good weekend.  I'll try to check back on Sunday.

    Evening Jewels,

Paula - yes today was my last whole breast treatment! Next week I have 5 boosts and will be done on Friday. Definitely time to celebrate Friday night!

PA lady - Yes, this is the end of my "aggressive" tx (surgery, chemo, rads). I will start arimidex right after rads and thats it (I hope). I know there will be endless doc visits and screenings but at least it won't be everyday. I have my appt set with my breast surgeon for July 7 right after I have my left breast mammo.

Carol - My se's during rads were not so bad. A little pink, soreness and discomfort but no itching, burning, or blisters. I have a lot of tan areas and these are sure to peel in a little bit. My skin is very fair (Irish) so I was surprised at the tanning. The fatigue is not too bad. I got a lot of rest, drank lots of H2O, exercised a bit si I guess that all helped.

D1 - My dog, Benji, had to be anesthesized for his teeth cleaning and he did fine. No problems at all, just a teeny bit groggy for a short time after. He was back to his frisky self in no time. Your dog sounds too cute! I'm hoping to get a little one soon.

    Goodnight Jewels,

    Joan

    Hi Ladies,

Thanks for always thinking of me.  I have 2 weeks left on this level and then I am off to my last level for Nursing.  God has been so good to me. I knew it from day one that I would make it will Gods will!

I took the zolfadex shot and my period came within two weeks after so I am going to the gyno on Monday to talk to her - I heard that happens and not to worry that tamoxifen and the shot is is working so we will see. I am thinking about removing my ovaries.  My onco thinks it will decrease the cancer by blocking the ovaries (estrogen and etc) or removing them.  We will take another CT scan next month and see what is going on - then I will make the final decision on what to do next.  He has many options for me to get this cancer.  I am not worried about it. God has been good to me this far, I really doubt he will let me down now.

I got bronchitis and didnt want to bother my onco but I finally called him today, because I coughed all night long and couldnt go to bed until 6:30 am and had to be at school at 10 am and I got an A on my test today.  I am so thankful for that, and all Glory to my wonderful God.  He steadily keeps his hands on me. I am so happy!

I am now working in peds with kids and the floor has a peds onco and  its so sad to see such little ones fighting this fight.  I want to encourage them but I dont want to get into trouble because I am working in the Urgent  floor and not their floor but maybe God will allow me to go in there and give them strength or vice versa - you never know who can enrich you.   I am so blessed for each and every day.

I decided I am going to take a cruise after graduation with the school grant that I will be getting in Sept (another blessing from God).  I just need to do me and I cant wait; then I will find a job and move out.  Its funny the closer it is getting to graduation the nicer my roommate is trying to be.

Let me tell you Ladies I may be fat and bald but I sure can still pick up the men.  I dont know what it is but so many have been hitting on me and Doctors, Respiratory Therapist and etc.  What can I say - the pimping hasnt left me after all - he he...  I said all this to let you know sometimes you might feel unpretty but others dont see that - so feel pretty at all times because you really are.  I truly believe God allowed our Cancer to enrich us and be ever so grateful you have another day because so many dont.

I love you all - and may your ROTTEN DUMB Husbands aka couch potatoes have a blessed fathers day.   He ha.

I am making my Daddy some zuccini bread (6 loaves) and taking him out to lunch.  I love my Dad despite all that he did to me in the past.

Remember dont look back at yesterday because you cant go forward if you are looking in the rear view mirror.

God bless ya - and I loveeeeeeeee ya!

LWDana-Thanks for the update.  It sounds like you and your med team are working together (finally) to find the right solution for you.  Please let us know how your scans/tests go.  I know I think of you often and the updates help me stay current in my good wishes.  Hang in there.  (Hey, GREAT news on your grades!!!  I don't know how you do that with all the other stuff on your mind.  I guess you were destined to be a nurse.)  Would you send some of your pimping methods my way?  I'm not as lucky as you for some reason (although, does getting out of parking garages for free count as pimping???)

KathyL--Yeah, we take the Centrum Women's, too.  It is a big pill.  But for some reason doesn't upset our tummies the way the One-A-Day Women's did.  Viactiv is a good idea.  I think we had that here when I was really pushing my dd's to take calcium.  It wouldn't hurt any of us to get on that bandwagon again.  And that's something we can take at dinner, to stagger the Centrum in the morning.  Ima go put it on the grocery list.

Thanks to you and Joan for being encouraging about Kippy's dental appointment.  I wasn't focusing on the fact that she'd be groggy afterward (I was, what made me think my teeny dog would be different?), we'll have to drag her king-sized dog bed (I think it's for a St. Bernard, but she likes it in her corner of the bedroom) downstairs for easy access to the yard.

Okay, I have to tell you all about my dreams.  For 3 nights in a row I've been dreaming that my period is starting.  How weird is that?  (Why can't I have those dreams about some faceless hottie pushing all of my buttons?????)  Anyway, I hope it's not a sign or something.  All I know is, I'm having hot flashes like crazy (having one right now, in fact).  I have to wash sheets every couple of days.  Not my favorite part of being a woman.

It's late.  I think I'll retire for the night.

Happy birthday to Deb tomorrow!  49 and holding, eh?  Good job!!!  (You doing okay?)

Hi Jewels -- just a quick post tonight. I'll have to catch up with all the posts tomorrow. I went for my LAST fill today and he doubled me up again to get me to the right size for my exchange surgery. Let me just say, I'm in A LOT of f***ing pain tonight!!!! Even the muscles in my back are killing me! I just keep telling myself this is the LAST time and keep hoping that will make it better. I talked to my sister tonight and her husband reminded her that her last fill was her most painful also -- she didn't do any doubles, though.

My exchange surgery is now scheduled for July 29 -- hoping I'll be raring to go for the start of school on August 12!!

Take care, Jewels -- more tomorrow!!

Yeow, Julie!!!  Hopefully by this morning the pain is subsiding some (or knowing you, you're just used to it).  How exciting to have your exchange on the schedule.  Are you all done after that?  (I'm jealous here.)

I'm hoping to have a normal, "get stuff done," kind of weekend.  I haven't had one of those in a very long time...

Happy birthday again to Deb!!!  Party all day (heck all weekend!), you deserve it.

    Happy Saturday, Jewels!

Paula – Have a great trip to TX.  I’m glad to hear Ed’s got his trial started, and things are moving forward.  Prayers go to him, you and your family for strength and positive outcomes.

Carol – So happy to hear about Steph!  Tell him we’re pulling for him and sending all good wishes for continued good news.  You’re getting so close to being done.  I am so happy for you!

Julie – I have to second the OMG!!  Banana rum punch at a book club??!!??  Where the heck do I sign up???  Sorry to hear about the last fill being the tough one.  I remember being pretty uncomfortable for the first few days following my overfill, too.  It eventually goes away.  That’s great that you’ve got a date all set for the exchange surgery.  That should give you a reasonable amount of time before you start back to school.

PAlady – So glad to hear from you.  YAY on the PET!!!  Loving the good news!

Kimberly – YAY! on the drains gone!  Have a fun weekend.  So glad you’re feeling so good.

Jenn – Prayers heading your way for your friend and her son.  I’ve been there, too.   You’re right about the love piece.  I’m sorry anyone has to go through things like that.

D1 – Congrats to dd!!  Smart girls rock!!  The family reunion sounds fun!  Hoping you can get everyone together for the family photo.  The dreams are a little mystifying, aren’t they?

Dana – You sound like you’re on the downhill slide to your nursing degree!  That’s got to feel so good.  Thank you for the great passages you provide us.  I appreciate the time to read and reflect.

KathyL – Sounds like you’ve got a full weekend, too.  Thanks for the vitamin regime…do all our Jewels take calcium??  I think I need to get back on that.  But, dang I take a lot of pills (vit E, B6, gluclosamine).  I, too, am not a good pill taker.

Well, dh and I are busy this weekend giving the house an overall cleaning in preparation for ds #2’s grad open house next Sunday.  I’m going to restain the back deck today, then tackle the inside.  D1 – I’m certain a stove cleaning is in my future!!

I had to laugh, ds #2 asked for three (foodie) things:  my homemade lemon bars, buffalo wings, and cocktail wiennies!!  Ya gotta love a kid who has manageable wishes!!  We of course, will be supplementing with real food.  My Mom is making her best ever homemade potato salad.  My neighbors are making fruit salad, and calico beans.  My dh is doing his signature smoked ribs.  I’ll be adding to that beef brisket sandwiches and a root beer keg!  I also found a local bakery that is making him a sheet cake with his grad pic on it.  Now we’ve just got to hope the weather holds out and we’ll have a pleasant, sunny afternoon.

Gotta get my day rolling, jewels!  Have a wonderful day.

Palady, thanks for the comments on my surg. pathology report. And congrats to you on your PET results !!

I can't get over how many people rave about my hair. They are all very sweet. I think it has really filled in over the last 2 weeks or so, because people who saw me before my surgery are doing double-takes now.

I had my last treatment first week of May, so I'm about 5 weeks out, but it started coming back during Taxol (about 6 weeks before I finished). So it's had ... hmmm ... close to 11 weeks to grow.

Go ahead and take that scarf off ! The air helps your hair to grow (ok, I have no idea if that's true, but it's what I tell myself ....)

Got my drain out yesterday before my Herceptin treatment ... WHAT a relief. That sucker was in for 2 weeks. I just kept pumping out fluid ... guess I'm a very fluid-y person. And the hole that's left has just continued to dribble fluid out ... I've soaked about 20 4x4 gauze pads. I'm half toying with the idea of using overnight sanitary napkins .... Actually, I think the hole is starting to close up a bit today.

I second the Viactiv chew recommendation for calcium supplementation. Trader Joe's has their own take on them too, choc. or fruit flavored. I'm more partial to the fruit-flavored ones.

My legs have finally started to feel a little better. Near the end of chemo, and for a few weeks after I finished, I was having this persistent (24/7) soreness in my calves and ankles, and the muscles would get so stiff after even short periods of inactivity that it seemed like they would break when I went to walk. Finally, near the beginning of this week, these symptoms seemed to lift a bit. That made me pretty happy. That was the only lingering SE I've noticed, and it's nice to see it on its way out.

Rad sim scheduled for 2 weeks from now. I've got my Aloe Vera gel, my Neutrogena soap, my Cortaid, and the calendula lotion is on order. That's the only lotion the rad nurse recommends.

D1 - thanks for the laughs.  Yes, you are pimping if you are getting parking free.  Every little bit counts!  You work your magic, and bat those eyes and smile baby cause you are beautiful.

Its weird I really dont worry about tomorrow and the cancer.  Maybe I am in denial about this but I honestly thinks its the faith in God that allows me to really enjoy life and not to ponder on this dis-ease.  Reality is I have to pass one day and right now I am not passing;  I am just so thankful for each and everyday. I also realize God has his hands on me and I have a lot more work to do for him; and the reason I say that is because my brother passed away within 2 months after his diagnose, and my Mom passed away 6 months after her surgery - both were Cancer and here I am stage 4 and GOD continues to open many more doors for me.  I said all that to say, its not hard to battle this Cancer and do school because I give all my worries and concerns to my Almighty one.  What point is it to worry about my cancer it is just going to shorten my faith and health.   You cant worry about things you cant control and if you really have true faith you give all your problems to the Lord. I am blessed to live to 38 and have such wonderful friends and family and that is the biggest blessing you can have in life.

Tina - you are always welcome for the passages - I am proud to spread the word and love.  May it always enrich you and give you strength and faith!

You keep on pimping....  he ha..

    Have a blessed day

Okay, so Tina and I are joining Julie's book club so we can drink (not necessarily read the books, but I'll bet after a few banana rum punches we'll be up for chirping in on the discussions!)

I wish I could come and clean your stove for you, Tina, I'm pretty good at it.  I'm smiling when I listen to you describe the grad party-we'll be doing that next year.  Last year, college girl didn't want a party at home because I thought it would be fun and anything I wanted, she didn't want.  (Odd, just as soon as I was dx'd, I was suddenly a lot smarter and attractive to her...)  My little one can see that the party will bring in some booty, so I think she'll be more in to it.  In fact, she's cleaning up right now to head out to one.  (Lemon bars sound really good, if you're up for sharing the recipe, I'd love to have it.)

LJ your leg pain sounds so familiar!  I'm just now noticing that my one lingering painful ankle is starting to feel a little better.  So that will mark the end of the constant aching.  Now all I'm dealing with is the stiffness/soreness I get when I'm in one position too long.  I'm hoping that will go away, too.  I love your hair reports.  I'm thinking exposure makes the hair grow, too, so that's how I'm selling my family on the whole topless thing.  I'm really leaving the top off more and more, but when I do anything at the school I have to have one and for some reason my family wants me to wear one at the neighborhood grocery store.  I think that's just in case I run in to any of the girls' pals.  Otherwise, I'm out there!  I think it will look better when I get it colored, but my appointment isn't for another 10 days or so (I wanted it close to the family reunion date so I look hot for the pics).  I can certainly be old and gray till then!

Definitely use whatever lotion your rad team recommends.  I started pre-lubing my field a week before rads actually started.  My team didn't know if it would help or not, but it made me feel like I was being proactive and we all know the head game is the larger part of this battle.  My skin has weathered the whole thing really well and I'm quite fair.  I'm still lubing 2x a day right now-I figure I'll keep it up till the lotion runs out.  Oh, you should ask about deodorant, too.  I was told to use Tom's of Maine natural scent, which I found at Trader Joe's (I'm going to look into the fruit Viactiv, wish this had come up 24 hours ago as I was just in Trader Joe's yesty!).

LOL on the sanitary napkin idea!  I actually used some pantiliners inside my bra after my 2nd lumpectomy as my scar kept opening to drain out fluid (should've had drains I think).  I was either stuck over the bathroom sink trying to squeeze fluid out or having to wear something incredibly absorbent or I couldn't go out.  I'm so glad those days are behind me...

So far today we all went in to dh's office to use the gym there.  I know, a strange family outing.  It's even stranger when you realize that we all plug in to our iPods, so we don't even interact while we exercise!  But now I'm showered and ready to tackle whatever's next (perhaps some pimping?).

    Later.

    Hello Jewels ...

I've had myself a blast the last 24 hours. Left for the Seattle side of the pond yesterday with my gf. Hit the outlet mall on our way to Ginny's house. Pretty sad, only bought my dh a new golf shirt, but had fun snooping around anyway. We arrived at Ginny's house which they call "The Lodge", its right on a beautiful lake up north of Seattle. (Tina almost in the Mt Vernon area where your son is home based!) Ginny and her husband bought this log cabin which was built in 1931. It is absolutely gorgeous. There is no way I could put into words how cool it is. (I need Sis Kimberly's way with words so you all could picture this great place). I knew that Ginny worked a lot in her yard in the summer months (she winters in AZ), and OMG, it was like walking into a nursery within a park. You can certainly see that she spends a lot of hours "puttering" as I like to call it outdoors.

She made us a great dinner, yep I even had a little Syrah to drink. Her husband was just as much fun to chat with as Ginny. We talked just about everything, and before we knew it we were looking at 11:00pm. YIKES, we had a 4:30 get up to drive back down to Seattle for a 6:30 training walk.

Our walk went great, my gf had not walked farther than 6 miles, so she was a bit apprehensive that she could keep up (its not a race but the pace moves along) to do just over a 10 miler. She did great, after the walk there was an Expo for the 3 Day, gave lots of tips on many topics to prepare yourself for the event.

We had to wait in line for the ferry back to the peninsula, but made it home. My gf has company gathering at her house this evening for a early Father's Day celebration, she is going to be one tired gal.

Speaking of Father's Day, the dh has a 7:30 tee time for golf in the morning. He asked if I'd like to join, I think I may pass, as a sleep in and yard work are in the cards for me. We're having a Father's day bar'b tomorrow with both our dads.

D1, hey both of our "wieners" have been "put out" to have their chompers cleaned. Our little one weighs in under 8lbs, and no problemo for her or the bigger guy. I think that the problems that can happen by messed up gums and teeth would be far worse. They'll be okay Mom!!!

My two cents on the Calcium bit, I just started taking Calcium with Vit D, it was recommended to me by my gyno, onc, and rad doc. I was told to take 1000mg daily. Although there pretty big pills I'm taking getting them down. Never been a vit taker in my life.

Think its time to shake your dream, sounds like a nightmare to me. No wonder your sweating!!! On the sweating thing, I used to dish out a bit of teasing to a lady at work who was always fanning herself, (I'd be bundled in 3 layers of fleece) and she was in a T. Oh, how that one has come back to bite me in the butt!

So Elton "almost" put you over the edge ... are you made of granite woman???

Tina, sounds like its party time at your house. Congrats to the ds, and enjoy the moment. And great, my mouth is salivating again just reading the word "ribs"!!!

Before you start that partying, how bout coming over and staining our deck, its due as well.

Deb, hope your enjoying your birthday in grand style. Okay, I won't give you any sh*t on it being your .........th!!!!! Hope your day is a very special one.

Dana, a cruise...I'm jealous!!! Keep up the good work, you've been a trooper with your studies.

Kimberly, your probably enjoying a fine glass of "something" this afternoon, looking forward to your report on the concert.  You are by far our entertainment enthusiast.

Come heck or high water I really don't want to miss the opportunity to meet Paula if she is going to be so close to your place come Aug.   I've got to do some smooth talking with my dh, he's very concerned that I may not be up for traveling "solo" right at the end of my rads.   I've told him I'd be in good hands, and I really wasn't having the concern that he is.   More to come on this topic!

LJ, yeah another drainless woman. Wow, two weeks for that puppy, you are a leaker!!! I actually remember the nurse who removed my drain for surg #2, was serious about using a "napkin" to absorb any leakers. I got lucky and it stopped within about 24 hours after the removal. Here's to not having to wear a sanitary napkin on your boob!!!

Julie, last filler up gal...stay strong, your almost to the final result. Hoping for some relief to your discomfort soon. So no report from the supervisor of the yard/house maintenance, you must be feeling sore!!!

Joan, just what I want to hear on the rads. Hoping that I can have as easy of a time as you. I'll be continuing with my mega amounts of water, exercise will be a must, and hopefully with a little luck the burning will be tolerable. I typically tan pretty easy, but I must say I've never had my "chest" exposed to the sun, and I guess even those who tan well can still have a pretty good burn. My biggest concern right now is that I can stay on schedule with the appts, as my last is on 11 Aug and I'm hoping like heck to be on "cation" by the 13th .

Kathy, I'm sure that the dd's recital was another "feel good" moment for the family. That's great your folks are able to attend so many activities with you all. I wore my "boobies" hat today, and actually met the woman who was inspired with a friend to form the organization "Checkyourboobies.org. I told her that there are a few of their hats bouncing around the country which she thought was pretty cool.

Norma, wow you did do some catching up on the post. Boy that would stink to "Reach Out" and get downer for a mentor. I don't really know what all is involved with the program, in fact I didn't know that you had to be a year out before participating, which is fine. I told the dh that I would definitely be taking a break from all "bc" come fall. I think he heard me mentioning the program to a friend and thought I was ready to jump in head first, not even close.

I havn't had any luck figuring how to cruise the post at a specific page, maybe I should e-mail bc.org and ask. Now I just have to remember to do that.

For the 3 Day Event, you can be signed up as an individual or join a team. I joined the team that my friend Ginny teamed with last year. She went into the whole thing last year as an individual and met some ladies at the Expo event like I went to today. The team we're on consist of about 90 women. Its one of the biggest teams in the Seattle area. The knowledge gained from yaking with experience walkers is so valuable. There are many planned training walks, and I have been to 6 so far. Being its almost a whole day for me to take a ferry, get picked up by Ginny, walk right now 10 to 12 miles, grab a bite to eat and head back home, I do a lot of walking right in my neighborhood. It has been great to meet some pretty fantastic people. One of the "beni's" I guess of this whole experience is the bonds with so many that would have never existed. Heck, just look at this post ... this is so not me just 8 months ago!!!

The dh just called from Costco, looks like he'll be bringing home dinner, time to hit the shower.

I'm quite thankful for the Dad's in my life, and also to my dh for being the great dad he has been to both his girls and my son.

Enjoy the rest of the weekend, Carol

Been a busy weekend, and I'm not done yet.  All the dads went golfing yesterday after watching dd dance.  Dh had a great time with them; he really likes the course they were on.  The girls stayed for all of dd's recital (to watch the "big" girls dance, as dd calls the older dancers), then we all went to lunch together.  One of dd's friends and her mom had come to watch dd, so they joined us for lunch, too.  Dd and I will be going to watch her friend dance later this month with her studio.  Last night, we all went out for Rita's (Italian ice for those of you who don't have a Rita's... they're awesome!).  The kids had received free coupons at the Relay For Life Kids Walk.  This morning we took dh and my dad out for brunch.  Yum!  Right now I'm supposed to be cleaning, etc. while dh is getting ds's haircut... but I had to check in here first!

Joan:  Glad to hear you are almost done with all your tx (minus the arimidex, of course).  I'm sure Friday will be a huge party!

Dana:  So glad to hear from you and that you sound in good spirits.  Wow!  It sounds like school is almost done for you-good luck on finishing up... graduation will be here before you know it.  What type of nursing do you think you'll end up doing?

D1:  Hmmm... I'll be curious to read Kimberly's take on your dreams.  But I'd have to say that your body and mind are working in opposite directions right now from the sounds of it!

And count me in on the rum-drinking, optional-book-reading book club with you, Tina, and Julie!  Wish we all lived closer...

Julie:  Sorry the last tata fill was so painful.  Good thing it's the last, huh?  Just think how good the girls will look come the end of July (and that you can end the hot summer sans-bra if you want!).

Tina:  Happy cleaning!  We are having an open house next Sunday also-so lots of cleaning and prep work this week for me, too.  Maybe I can have my cleaning service picked out in time for a first clean the following week...

ds #2 sounds like a man of my own heart-cocktail weenies are my favorite hors d'oevre!  I didn't care about the elaborate stuff they had at my wedding... but I needed my weenies!

LJ:  So happy to read that you're doing well and moving forward with stuff.  Isn't it nice that some SEs do fade over time?  Good luck with your upcoming rads.

    Schedule for the week:

    Tuesday: Kris 60 #9 of 12 weekly T

Wednesday: Last round of weekly T for Wing (Wendy).  Big WOOHOO to her!

    Hi,

Just a quick check-in ( I'm here at work ). The last few weeks have been wonderfully busy at my house. It's been birthday season at home w/ my oldest dd on 5/21 & my twins on 6/11, on top of mother's day, father's day, & my bil & father's bday ( we normally celebrate all of the holidays, special occasions at my house, with this year being no exception...& I wouldn't have it any other way). Throw in all of the end-of-school year recitals, awards, & parties, & boy! does time fly by! It beats sitting around watching my hair grow ever so slowly -at least that's what it seems like to me. I really shouldn't complain - I finally have full coverage & it's about 3/4 inch long ( trimmed it a couple of times back in April ), straight as a board sticking straight up - more 'pepper' than 'salt' ( just like pre-bc ). Everyone around me can't resist rubbing my head...even strangers! I'll probably wait until end of summer for a 'real' haircut & to add color to cover the gray - I had highlights pre-bc, but I may wait awhile to add those.

Have only perused over the most recent posts -BOY! y'all have been BUSY!!!! traveling, partying, drinking, cooking, etc...It really warms my heart to see our collective posts go from aches, pains, etc...to discussing future plans & projects - now that's progress!!To all those bringing up the rear - 'hang in there' - the light at the end of the tunnel will never burn out!

Got some disturbing news here at work today -2 of my fellow nurses in my unit have just been diagnosed w/ bc - actually one of them is still waiting for her path results. Damn! if there was some kind of quota to be filled here in my world, I would have hoped that I could have been it!

On a brighter note - this weekend alone I have had 3 patients in my unit who are bc survivors from 15-20 years ago &  they all are in here for other reasons. Their hx of bc is merely a footnote.

Anyway...just thought I'd check in & say HI!

Happy Father's Day to all the dh's & df's who have taken such good care of us!

My continued thoughts & prayers to those who are going through new & continued illnesses with their loved ones.

    Therese

So, we arrived in Sonora around 5:00 only 2 hours after we left Folsom. Sonora is an old mining town that still has its old cowboy charm. We ate at Outlaws BBQ and Steakhouse…a coffee shop setting with some pretty darn good ribs.  The concert was in Murphy’s about 16 miles from Sonora. It was great. Los Lonely Boys opened for Sheryl Crow, and then she played for almost two hours straight. She is a beautiful woman with a talented group backing her up.  The venue was a winery - not such great wine IMO- with a 6,000 person capacity outdoor amphitheater.  Besides the food and drink tents, there was a group of young people giving Free Hugs...how fun was that getting 'gentle' hugs... since I just had surgery and can't be squeezed too tightly yet...from a line of fabulous young people?  We saw the same guy with a different recruit at the Farmer's Market, where I got some awesome Nectarines) in Senora where we stayed the next day and got more hugs!!!!

I also had several people just walk up to me over the two days we were gone and tell me how beautiful I was…just made me all warm inside. Who can complain with hugs and comliments being spread around? Life is sooo good.

We spent time in Murphy’s yesty morning after breakfast in Sonora across for our historic hotel- The Sonora Inn. There wasn’t a plumb wall in site. Our room literally had a slant in the floor with the windows being the uphill side. The colors were that slate blue and dusty rose color of the 80’s country crafty phase and white trim. The carpet was thin and dark blue, and the bath was two steps up from the room. I thankfully didn’t kill myself in the middle of the night trying to get to the potty.  It seems we are destined to stay in rooms with character this summer.

In Murphy’s I bought some Lavender Linen spray- love to spray it on my pillow before sleep- , some homemade olive oil we got to put into a bottle from the cask, an aroma therapy candle (D1 got me thinking that was a great idea), and a new Euro purse and wallet. I’ve had a hard time carrying my purse with my gimpy arms, so the Euro purse is thin and slips over the head and lays flat on your hip so it can’t easily be snatched.  Much more comfortable.

Afterwards, we headed to Fairplay to pick up our wine shipments. I hadn’t been in a long time.  We stopped in Sutter Creek on the way for lunch and to check on a lot we own. There was a fire in the canyon just below our lot.  It looked like the fire dept had a handle on things and that our lot and the houses surrounding were not in any danger.

The scenery along our drive was just beautiful. We made it to the winery just as they closed, but seeing it was us, the owners had no problems hanging with us to pick up wine and taste a little.

We got home, after dropping off my twinsis and her beau, around 8pm. We hit 8 counties in one day!

So, what’s been up with you all since I left?  Hmmmm…

Norma- Hi, you’ve been busy with those boys.  What kind of a car did you buy?  Sheryl Crow has  new song about Gasoline. She had five huge semi-trucks to haul her equipment, so I imagine after getting the bill for putting gas into those is what inspired that song.

D1- No bedbugs as there haven’t been bites since that one incident. I’m thinking it was just a rogue bug that found its way inside.

How sweet your dd’s want to cook for their dad. How did the cake turn out?

What a great name…a schnoodle…sounds like an Austrian dessert.

I love that song, Bennie and the Jets.  I remember as a kid not hearing the lyrics accurately, and my twinsis and I singing loudly at the top of our lungs…’she’s got electric boobs’  Hysterical. We never understood what that meant, but sang it anyway.

Isn’t it weird what just brings us smiles and joy at being alive these days?  Sap?  Heck no!!!!  You have every right to celebrate with tears or no tears!!!! And loud music from our youth is always a bonus!!!

Interesting dreams. Since dreams are often symbolic or metaphors, maybe it’s your subconscious mind letting that go?

Kathy- What a huge bonus to have dd’s dance recital, the grandparents’ visit, and Father’s Day all in one fail swoop. Did the kids make their dad anything this year?  I love the homemade stuff kids make.

Bummer you aren’t happy with the tat.  Can you research who specializes in breast tats in your area and go there?  I’ve heard on this site that people have gotten great 3-D tats done.

Joan- OMG, I can’t believe you and Paula are done next week. It seems like you both just started. Congrats on being almost done, and without major se’s or blistering either. Nice!!!!

    So, schools out now, right?

LWDana- Thanks for the news.  I’m glad you’re doing so well in school and feeling so good about life right now.  I agree that cancer has been an unexpected gift and that you never whom you’ll learn something from.  Also glad to hear the ex is being kinder, and way to go on getting hit on by lots of men. You go, girl.

Excellent that you’re going on a cruise. Where will you go? Being in San Diego, will it be a Mexican Riviera cruise?  Hope your grant will pay for that and allow you to move out!

Keep us posted on how your scans and all go, OK?  Seems your med team is exactly the one you were meant to find.  Makes all that waiting and worrying about insurance etc, worth it,doesn’t it?

Julie- I can’t even imagine doubling up, but so understand wanting to just get that skin stretched and get on with the exchange. So, you’ll have about 6 weeks from the last fill to allow the skin to relax. Perfect.  You’ll be ready for August 12th (my ds 25th bday), but there will be no lifting at that point, and you may find your range of motion challenged.

OK, I’m not much for banana anything or rum anything, but I love to read. Just finished a book called Family Ties and started another called Something Borrowed. Not really thinking type books, more easy relaxing reads, but there are discussion points for certain in each. Can I join D1 and Tina and BYOB?

Tina- How exciting to be celebrating your ds’s graduation next week. You sound like you’ve got plenty of energy tackling staining the deck and doing a deep cleaning inside the house. Yeah for dh’s help in that dept.  The menu sounds perfect for a big group of grads and the proud adult crowd.

LJ13- WhooHoo on the drain removal for you, too.  Are you happy with the results?   I was sooo lucky this time around.  After the initial expanders, I was draining like you’re talking about right now, but after the exchange, it was only two days before my output was less than 10 on each side. After 6 days, those puppies got yanked.
I’m 10 days out today, and feeling better each day.

You sound totally ready to go for your tanning adventure.

Carol – Congrats and taking your LAST pill today!!!!!

Your weekend sounds like it was a blast! Ginny’s house sounds gorgeous.

Enjoy your dinner with all the Dad’s today.

And happy belated birthday to Deb.  Hope you spent the entire weekend, and I’m partial to the birthday week, or month if you can get away with it, having it be all about you!

My dad lives in San Francisco, so I’ll be calling him to say Happy Father’s Day.

Therese, we must have been composing while you posted.  So glad to hear from you. I was wondering how you are.  Are the girls fluffed out yet?

I couldn't agree more with your statement about our posts going from aches and pains to future plans and daily living. That is progress!!!!

You've been one busy gal, and like you said, how wonderful that you've had so much life to live over the past month. LOL on better than watching your hair grow. Still waiting for full coverage. Almost 8 weeks out - this Tuesday will be 8 weeks- from my last tini, so I anticipate that by the end of July I will have full coverage and maybe enough to look close to the short hair I had before bc.

    Take care, SIS Kimberly

    Happy Father's Day, Jewels!

The girls' dinner was such a hit last night.  Everything, including the ice cream cake, turned out perfectly.  Everyone was so happy.  The girls got up this morning and stamped hand and foot prints on a new t-shirt for dh, which hopefully will be dry for presentation tonight.

It sounds like you had a very full weekend, Carol.  I'm so glad that you're enjoying more than just walking with Ginny.  (Wonder if she'd be willing to putter in my yard???)

I think it's wonderful, KathyL, that you're able to share dd's recitals with so many people.  Those events always made me feel so warm inside.  (And I see you cooled off with Italian Ice, good choice!)  Of course you can join our book club!  I wish we all lived closer, too.  As always, thanks for the lounge list.  I cannot believe how short it's getting.  Hooray for the Jewels!!!

Thanks for checking in Therese!  You really sound like you've got your hands full.  I'm so glad you're enjoying family and "normalcy" so much.  I'm sorry about your co-workers-2 more bc dx.  Ouch.  I hope they caught it early and will be celebrating life just like you in no time.

The cation report was great, SIS Kimberly, thanks for taking the time.  I was lol at the vision of you stumbling around in the middle of the night, trying to find the bathroom!  Hope you got some good wines for your cork-popping appointment with our girl, Carol.  (I'm just green with envy.)  Yeah, our little Kippy is a schnoodle.  She actually looks more like a schnauzer than a poodle, until we let her coat grow out.  But all of her markings are schnauzer-like.  She really is a sweet little thing.

OMG-I always thought it was "electric boobs," too!!!!  How funny is that?  (Particularly given the fact that we met one another because of our own electric boobs!)

And I sure hope you're right about my dream.  I'm hoping that I'm letting go of that and not predicting it's reprise...

Oh, KathyL, Kimberly reminds me.  I was wondering the same thing about seeing a professional tat artist for some dimension on your nipple.  The tat shop here looks like a real dump on the outside, but is like a hospital on the inside (I've been there when I had to sign for college girl's first tattoo).  I'd be willing to bet money that they would be able to perk up (is that a bad choice of words, or what?) your tat.  You may even want to call your ps (or another, if you feel funny about calling yours) and ask if they would/could recommend someone to touch yours up.  Just a thought.

And our book club grows-SIS Kimberly, of course you're welcome!

Okay, off to check on the laundry...

    Hi Ladies,

Thought I'd pop in for a "quickie" ... D1, YEP, took the last three blue pills this morning.  I was home by myself (the dh was golfing), stood at the sink for just a moment and said "adios" to my chemo and tossed my pill bottle!

I did buy some champagne at the store today that we'll be opening to toast our dad's and I'll be sure to have an extra glass to toast being done.

Off to cut the grass, and do a little puttering before hitting the kitchen to actual prepare some things for tonight.

Ditto Kimberly's comment ...   LIFE IS GOOD!!!!

"She's got electric boobs, her ma has too..." Surprised I sang it like that for YEARS before someone enlightened me. I still prefer my version to the real thing (a mohair suit? ick!)

Music can really bring back some powerful memories, huh? Was listening to Tom Petty last week and POOF--I was in my bff's Mustang Cobra flying down the road with the top down... made me smile!

Carol- Great talking to you this afternoon. Forgot to WOOHOO on the phone to celebrate your last chemo! Congrats on being finished!!! You amaze me with how well you are doing with the walking--you've come a long way from the recliner days, eh?!

Remember Kathy's advice on the calcium. The body cannot absorb more than 500mg at a time.

Kimberly- your weekend sounds wonderful. I'm so glad you enjoyed yourself. Let's see... next trip is to the Windy City, right?

PALady- My oldest (the ds) will be a senior next year also. We have senior pics scheduled for August. I'm struggling a bit with the prices. The sitting fee is $200 and the minimum order for senior pics is $895. If you don't mind my asking, how does that compare with the cost of your ds' pics? Trying to decide if ds should keep the appointment...

Kathy- your dd's dance recital sounds lovely. Glad you were able to share the experience with so many friends and family.

Joan- by the end of this week you'll be finished with rads! And one more week of school after that, right? Sounds like we'll hit the summer vacation point at the same time. I'm taking a break from rads to take my students to Dallas this week. I'll come home and get my boost simulation on the 23rd and then start my 5 boosts. If everything goes well, I'll be finished on June 30.

Dana- you sound wonderful, lil' warrior! I enjoyed catching up on your life. So glad nursing school is going well for you--you're in the home stretch and the finish line is in sight. Keep up the good work! Thanks also for the devotions that you share--good reading!

D1- man! who wants to dream about Aunt Flo?! Do ya suppose it is related to the whole hormone issue? Wasn't too long ago you were really torn about starting the tamo...

Now that you mention it, I don't think I've had a sex dream since I started this journey. In fact, I ain't had the real thing too many times through this ordeal... (oh sorry, guess that's TMI)

Deb- hope you are doing well and enjoyed a nice birthday yesterday!

Julie- hope the foobs are feeling more comfy today. I know you're looking forward to getting all of this behind you before school starts. I'll be praying that everything goes smoothly!

Tina- thanks for the good wishes. Dh is doing well on the trial drugs. He is starting to develop a rash from the Tarceva (a very common se). Otherwise, he's feeling well and looking forward to accompanying me on the school trip to Dallas this week.

LJ- I dunno if going "topless" is helping my hair grow any faster, but I've used the same line here. I only wear a head cover when I know I'm going to be in an air-conditioned room where I'll be cold.

Good to hear that your legs are settling down and things are getting back to normal in that area. And sounds like you're well prepared for your rads.

Therese- so good to hear from you. Glad things are going well for you and your family!

I have been helping ds pack for the trip to big D all evening. He leaves tomorrow with the rest of the officers (my principal is traveling with them as their chaperone). Dh, dd, and I will fly out Tuesday afternoon with the rest of the students.

Will have the laptop with me, so I'll pop in when I can.

Kris and Wendy- thinking of you as you hit the chemo bar this week. Congrats, Wendy, on being finished!

    Take care all,

    Paula

    Hi Ladies,

Hope you all had a great weekend. We had a busy weekend of soccer. It was our State Cup tournament. We had 5 games Saturday and 3 games Sunday. Youngest ds made it to regionals, oldest tied in championship game and so doesn't get to move on. It was bittersweet for their team as they probably won't play together again. Ds has been on the team for 5 years and a few of them have been together for 8.

We got dh some fishing gear. We have a pond in our back yard and stocked it with some fish last summer. All of his gear is pretty old as he really is not a fisherman, but has taken to sitting out there and relaxing with youngest ds. He was in his glory out there yesterday! My dad came over for dinner and I just grilled some steaks for them. This was the first Father's Day since my father-in-law passed (five days after I was diagnosed in October). Dh seemed to do pretty well. I think it helped that we were so busy.

D1 - we have a Golden Doodle, which I am imagining is the exact opposite in size to your Schnoodle! He was one in January and has the longest lanky legs you can imagine. I hope your dreams are not premonitions!

Kathy - I love going to dance recitals! Having three boys I missed out on all the girly stuff. My niece danced for years and I used to go to hers. The little ones are so fun to watch. Hopefully your ps can fix up your tattoo or as D1 and Kimberly said go to a regular tattoo artist. ( Don't know how comfortable I would be with that, but I am sure they could give you good results).  The cancer center is starting bil on caboplatin and radiation to his spine this week or next. They said they only see one case of this cancer about every 5 years usually in older men. He is only 37. I like your idea for the Viactiv - I will have to look for them.

Julie - Hope you are feeling less pain now.

Tina - The party food sounds good! I think my ds would eat chicken wings every day if we let him!

LJ - I like your thoughts on the air helping the hair grow! I think the scarf is coming off this week. Glad you could get your drain out this week. Hopefully you will heal up real quick now.

Carol - Yea for being done with those pills and tossing that bottle! I am jealous of all you women meeting up in August! That will be so fun for all of you.

Therese - glad to hear from you. I  have wondered how you are. It is great that you are staying busy and moving on with life!

Kimberly - Your trip sounds awesome. When you mentioned the olive oil, it brought back memories of a trip dh and I took to Phoenix two years ago. We went to a site that had an olive tree right were we were parked. I love olives. I grabbed one off the tree and took a bite of it - it was awful!!!! Didn't realize they needed to be brined or whatever first! We haven't decided on any car yet. I have been in minivan/SUV land for quite a few years. Not quite sure what we want to get, yet.

Paula - My oldest ds goes to an all boys prep school. They make them all go to the same photographer for their yearbook photos which they do in a tux. I think the sitting fee was $20. When we got the proofs back, I started looking through what I wanted to order (there is no minimum) and it was quickly up to $300 and I really didn't think there were many pics. I felt those prices were like ordering wedding photos! So I ended up just getting an 8x10 of the tux photo and a few wallets of dh's and my favorite pic and ds's favorite pic. It came up to about $120. I am going to have him go in late fall to Sears for their Senior package which has a ton of photos and you can mix and match the poses for about $159. Last year my dad wanted pics of my me, my brother, sister, and him for father's day. We had them done at Sears and were really happy with them.   I think the same as when they are little, you get caught up in how cute they look and you want some of everything and you end up spending more than you intend for sentimental reasons. Do you have to go to that photographer or can you choose others?

I am going to be going to the onc on Wednesday and will be getting my scrip for Tamox. I know I wanted to ask him about doing a base line on my hormone levels but I thought there was some talk about another test or two I wanted to ask him about and now cannot remember. Any ideas? Also, I was looking on Chemocare.com today about side effects and it says you shouldn't drink alcohol or take aspirin while on it? Any of you already on it had your drs. say anything about that?

    Have good day, all.

The incisions are healing nicely, but ... dammit if I don't feel a cord developing under the arm and beginning down the underside of my arm.  Dang!

D1, anyone, any suggestions on nipping this in the bud? I'd like to deal with it myself if I can ... just trying to not miss any more work with more appointments. What kind of massage motions are typically done?

    Good Morning Jewels,
Man, what a roller coaster night last night.

The dh was in a mood yesterday, I equate these moody times to male PMS (Problematic Male Syndrome) considering male hormones fluctuate too. It seems to occur when all the right elements are aligned: he’s not feeling appreciated and/or is frustrated at work, isn’t happy with his physical appearance and feels his ‘age’, feels I'm not supportive 100% of the time, and has not had sex in awhile, which makes him feel unloved.  I wish I could help him out with that last one, but no can do without the use of my arms. Sorry TMI, right there with ya Paula on the sex drought.

He did admit that my having cancer brought up the same helpless, weak, inadequate feelings he felt when his previous wife drank, so my faults are being magnified I’m thinking. Anyway, now that we are in a transition phase, and transitions seem to bring PMS about, too, he’s trying to find his balance again, as I am. Ahhhh, the ups and downs of relationships.

We ended up playing cards last night , which was fun, as part of my agreeing to what was asked of me: to curtail TV and computer time when he is home, so we can spend more time together. When he went to bed, I read a book as I wasn’t tired. I had a little peanut butter on a whole grain tortilla while reading and went to bed around 11pm.  I was wide awake at 1am - thinkin’ it might be the peanut butter keeping my brain awake, or the moody dh on my mind, so I got up to read some more and  didn’t get back to bed until after 4:30 am.  Got up at 7:30.  I’ll be bushed tonight, and today is our 6th Anniversary, so I need to think about making a nice dinner, getting dolled up, and getting a mushy card to show him that he is loved and appreciated.

Thanks for letting me get that off my chest... I mean off my Foobies.

D1- I am so glad that the dds’ dinner was such a hit. We need pics of Dad in his new shirt.

I’m with LJ13 about cording occurring. I was working through my range of motion issues prior to the exchange, but man it’s back in spades. I’d be interested in what you can throw our way as far as massage or exercises/stretches to do as well.

Carol- I am soooo happy for you. I toasted you with a little Pinot sent by a certain someone in the PNW…not bad!

Glad you like Syrah, our favorite winery had a great Syrah, so we bought some, of course, along with their Reserve Zin.
In addition to our wine shipments that we picked up, we ended up with a case of wine to bring home.

Joan – Man, June 26th seems like it is far away, but not starting until Sept 2 makes it not so bad. We start August 21st, but don’t have kids until the 26th of August, and then we get out the following June on the 12th.

This is your last week of rads…whoohoo!!!!  I thought Paula would finish with you, but she’s taking a break this week to go to Dallas, so she’ll be close behind.

Paula – Yep, the Windy City is my next destination as of Sat. Won’t be back until the 27th, then it’s our birthday on the 28th.  We’re doing a big shindig at the organic food restaurant I like to celebrate our birthday, Greg’s and my anniversary, and being done with chemo. We’ve got 20 guests coming so far. I’m thinking that’s a good number.

Have a great time in Dallas.

Yeah, what is a Mohair suit and why would someone want to wear one?  Our lyrics are much better!

Ouch on the cost of senior pics!  I think Norma had a much better deal. What’s with the big sitting fee and minimum $900+ package? Technically, a school cannot force a senior to use a particular photographer for their pictures. Many people cannot afford what you quoted. The school can't dictate who provides a pic for the yearbook. They can, but will claim it’s too hard, take a wallet size from anyone as long as it is a digital photo since yearbooks are done via computer now. Any photographer can get a photo to the school digitally.

Norma- The Plymouth Vibe is a nice size four door hatchback with great gas mileage.  The guys on Car Talk on NPR would touting it just the other day as a really good car for gas mileage. My dh has one and he did tons of research on good mileage cars considering his commute. He gets 32 mpg or more.

LJ13 – I’m right there with you on the developing cording…dang is right. It hurts.

I’m off to find my dinner recipe and a card.

    Have a great day ladies.
    SIS Kimberly
