    Today is so sad.

He was an incredible man. A part of America. I cannot imagine what Sundays will be like without him.

God bless him and may He give comfort to his beloved father, Big Russ and his wife Maureen and son, Luke.

This just flashed across the news-- I can't believe it.

I saw it on the internet about an hour ago and have been watching the tributes on t.v. since then.  While I wasn't thrilled with NBC's coverage of this year's campaign, I've always thought that Tim Russert was one of the best political journalists out there and I rarely missed Meet the Press.  And frankly, he just seemed like a really nice guy, someone that you'd want to know.

I have to admit though that whenever I've seen him lately I've had a nagging feeling that he was setting himself up for a stroke or a heart attack.  A couple of times I've actually felt like reaching through the screen to shake him and say "take better care of yourself".  He'd obviously gained some weight over the last couple of years, and when you'd see him on primary nights, while he was excited and enthusiastic, he often looked tired and worn down.  He talked about the insane hours that he was putting in during the campaign and I can imagine that the diet was horrendous.  Who knows if the heart attack was preventable in his case, but hopefully this will resonate with other people out there who need to be taking better care of themselves.

It is so sad. He was only 58.  My thoughts are with his wife, son and his dad.

This is sad.  Meet the Press was the only news show of that type I could stand to watch and it was because of him.  He made politics accessable I think.

Very sad news.  It's been reported that it was an apparent heart attack but he had been vacationing and  gotten off a plane from Rome this week -in fact his wife and son stayed on

and NBC delayed the announcement till they were notified.

Could it be that the long plane ride may have contributed--an embolism?

Sundays won't be the same.  I also enjoyed watching him and listening to him talk with such pride about his family especially his Dad.

So sorry for his family and his friends.

I just saw this on Yahoo! and was shocked!

Who have been the other big anchors to die these past few years?

Jim McKay, the sports anchor just died.  Peter Jennings.. a few years ago; David Bloom in Iraq from an embolism in his leg! ...

Even tho most of us will never know these people in real life, they touch our lives, sometimes on a daily basis and for years.  Walter Cronkite was with us more than a generation. They are trusted folk, let into our homes while we eat dinner or get ready for bed or in the a.m. in our jammies ... we feel we are connected to them and when they die, it's shocking and saddening.

I agree - this is so so sad.  He seemed like a really down-to-earth guy, didn't he?  As others have said, may God bless his soul and send peace to his wife, son and Dad.

    God bless,

    Pat

For the last couple of hours I've been watching the coverage of his death.  It is so shocking that Tim Russert is dead. It's still sinking in.  He died at work while doing promos for this Sunday's Meet the Press.

He came across as "the average Joe", yet he was a lawyer; Senior VP of NBC News, an author and of course a television newsman.  But everyone today said his greatest accomplishment was being a father. His father was a sanitation worker and he never forgot from where he came.

    Rest in peace Tim.

I just watched all the coverage. Andrea Mitchell just had on his doctor.

Apparently he never had a chance. He died instantly. And he had just done really well on a stress test in April. But he was suffering from some sort of coronary artery disease.

    This is so sad.

Beesie, I had been thinking the same thing the past few weeks, that he hadn't looked well, but none of them did because everyone was so exhausted from the long primary campaign.

I want to do something, but I can't think  of what to do.

I can't imagine his dad up there alone in Buffalo and his poor wife and son being called in Italy on vacation and told he was gone.

    God bless all of them.

I'm stunned by this. I got home from work, logged onto my computer, and saw the headline. I loved it when he had something to say about the campaign, because he was so knowledgable and sensible. I was looking forward to the election because I knew Tim was going to be there, breaking it down and making it real for all of us lay-persons. I'm just really saddened.

I was completely shocked and disturbed by this when I saw his name on the TV with the dates under his picture.  I am not highly political but I really liked Tim Russert.  He never appeared biased to me, his questions seemed fair all around and he brought such a fresh personality to the world of talking heads, IMO.

    No man is an island

"No man is an island entire of itself; every man

    is a piece of the continent, a part of the main;

if a clod be washed away by the sea, Europe

is the less, as well as if a promontory were, as

well as any manner of thy friends or of thine

own were; any man's death diminishes me,

because I am involved in mankind.

And therefore never send to know for whom

the bell tolls; it tolls for thee."

    Very nice, Tender.

I have watched Tim Russert in years.  However, I do remember the Florida thing in 2000.

So, what did I do after watching all of his friends talk about what a great guy, father, son, husband, and friend.  I bought both of his books to pass on to my sil and dd who have children.  I'll read them first.  I bought them from the "used" list on Amazon.  At least 50 of his first books on that list have vanished.  People were buying them.

I was intrigued by how his feet were so firmly planted on the ground.  What a tribute to his broken hearted father.  And, someone said that he line up 3 or 4 people to stop by everyday to see his dad.  His dad thought that the people were "just" coming by.  How many children are so thoughtful and loving in this busy world.  But no matter how busy this man was his father was on his mind.

I am so sad for his family and his family at NBC news.  God bless them all.

I have only been able to listen to politics because of Tim Russert. I think he made is so accessible to everyone.  He had a genuine honest approach to his journalism.  I respected him very much.

I was very saddened by this news. Prayers to him, and his family. I hope he is by his father's side.

His poor dad, to lose a son at any age is unexpected pain.   And in his old age, when he was really needing the comfort of his son and the caring ... I am sure people will be there for him but his son...his only son, gone.

I wished I had watched him more.

I was in tears yesterday when I watched Meet the Press and they showed his last recorded words: "Happy Father's Day and Luke, I am so proud of you."  How fitting that his last recorded words were to his son.  It is really a great loss - regardless of the side of the political fence you sat on, you had to respect and trust Tim Russert to be fair with his interviews.

I saw his son on TV this morning.

He sounds just like him and looks so much like him too.

    It was a wonderful interview.

Then they showed him with his chair in the darkened MTP studio after the taping yesterday. It was heartbreaking. NBC gave him the chair.
