    Hi all,

Has anyone experienced urinary retention after A/C? I keep drinking but only pee tiny quantities. My stomach feels distended even though I do NOT have edema of the hands, feet, or face.

What should I do?? Could this be a temporary thing that will clear up by itself?

    Thanks to all,

    Annie

    Hi Annie,

I didn't have the problem you are having after my A/C. I think it warrants a call to the oncologist because you want to get that Adriamiacin through your body and out. If you aren't peeing it is sitting in there and might be damaging to your kidneys. I'm sorry - I don't mean to scare you - but I think you should call.

    Good luck,

    Barb

Most definitely call your onco tonight!  They told us to even be sure to get up throughout the first night to pee, although I didn't.  It can do damage to your kidneys and urinary tract!  Call!

When did you have your infusion? Was it today?

Thanks. Yes, it was today. This afternoon, in fact. My stomach feels distended, and my eyes look strange -- watery, or as though I have edema of the whites.

Don't mess around.  IF nothing else, at least call the on call for your onco's clinic.  Did they give you a number to call for this? IF not, mine said to use the emergency room for any problems.  Ticked me off, but thankfully I didn't need it!

Were you also drinking a lot of fluids yesterday in prep for chemo? You should be if not.  The day before about a gallon of water, the day of chemo and day after to keep the fluids moving and you hydrated.  Please call their office, or see someone at the ER tonight if you aren't clearing fluids.  You can do permanent damage to your kidneys and /or bladder etc..

I called the oncologist's service, and am waiting for callback. Please keep your fingers crossed this isn't too dire. I'm really worried. Obviously.

    Thanks,

    Annie

    Annie,

How are you--did the problem get resolved? Did the onc call back?

Did you get a callback, Annie?  As the others said, that Adriamycin needs to come out.  It could do serious damage if it sits there in your bladder.

Please check back in with us.

    Hugs,

    Karen

    Hi all,

The oncologist told me to go to the ER and had the triage nurse waiting for me. They put me in a sterile room, inserted a Foley, and ran a bunch of tests.

Kidney function is perfect, but I have a urinary tract infection. :-( So I'm now on antibiotics plus meds to regulate Ph, and need to go see my PCP in a few days. Hopefully this will solve the problem. Oh yes, was told to drink copiously.

Thanks to all -- again, what would I do without you guys?!

    Love,

    Annie

I'm also hoping to hear you managed to get a good flush-through going. Usually the fluids they include with the infusion virtually guarantee more than the "tiny quantities" you were experiencing, so maybe they had you come in for extra IV fluids. Please do let us know all is well!

Sorry you have to deal with this -- glad they got you into the ER right away, and I hope this goes away as quickly as it came on -- or faster!

    Dear all,

It never rains but it pours. My ex-husband and father of my children died this morning. Blood clot to the heart. I'm going to have travel back ASAP. God help us all.

Oh, Annie, so sorry to hear about your ex. I will pray for you and your children.

Glad you got some help for your peeing problem. The antibiotics should fix that up.

    Hugs and prayers,

    Candie

Thanks to all. The funeral was yesterday, and of course I couldn't go. My daughters took care of everything; they made the whole thing something their dad would have loved (if anyone can love his own funeral). I'm very proud of them, and very sad for them. This, however, has made me determined in a new way to get well -- the grandkids must have at least one grandparent.

    Love to all,

    Annie

Annie, you are so right about the grandkids -- and your daughters. I was thinking that when you first said "I have to go back" -- that of course your daughters and grandchildren need you -- meaning that above all they need you to take the best possible care of yourself that you can right now.

    Love to you and yours,

    Ann
