What are your recs for insect repellant? I am suffering with dozens of no-see-um bites on my arms and legs and am now resorting to supermarket repellant with bad chemicals. Deet and something else I don't remember. Anything less hazardous out there that actually WORKS???
Thank goodness for tanning lotion because at least it somewhat disguises my spotty legs. Ugh! It doesn't pay to be too tasty.

I don't use any chemicals on my body, I only use garlic (I eat it whenever possible) and occasionally tee tree oil (which is also a great anticeptic) and have recently tried an oil combination called Thieves to ward off mosquitoes and it did work as I was in the vegetable garden and while I was mowing the lawn the pesky buggers were everywhere(!) but they didn't bite me.

I've been told putting a fabric softener sheet in your pocket keeps mosquitoes away but haven't tried it yet.

I live in Alaska where the mosquito is our state bird, so I can sympathize with you. We do several things. We bought a mosquito magnet machine for our yard. It was expensive, but SO worth it. It catches thousands of mosquitoes and the vicious little gnat we have up here called a whitesock.
I also have hats and shirts made by the following company.

They have a repellent infused in the fabric but it is NOT absorbed by your skin.
Ironically, I am on chemo right now and bugs won't bite me. They land, take a sniff of my skin and fly off. Makes me wonder just how toxic I am in a mosquito won't bite me!!

I recently rec'd an email stating that spraying diluted (didn't say how much, may half and half) of Listerine and water would keep them off, and also would keep them away from an area for a couple of hours when sprayed.
Haven't tried it yet myself.

Deb, I was never bit while on chemo, either.
Jaybird, where do you get that oil "Thieves"? Does it spray on?
Bugs (get it? lol)

I had a friend tell me yesterday that she bys the deet "wipes", but instead of wiping it on her skin, she just pins it to the top of her hat and it keeps the bugs away for hours. I have not tried it, but she swears it works great.

Oh, what a good idea! Will try that one.
Actually, I just read something on an internet herbal site that had instructions for making bug repellent sachets and suggested hanging them from your lawn chair while outside. Same sort of idea.
Man, one of my feet has 16 bites on it.

Skin So Soft by Avon ... people swear by it. My friends take it camping.
-
Yep, the Skin So Soft oil (not the lotion)... you can even mix water with it to stretch it and it still works fine.
-
Bugs, the Thieves is by young living oils. Google it. I use it on EVERYTHING.
