O/T Carpal Tunnel
Comments
-
This is unrelated to BC, of course, but I am wondering how my fellow carpal tunnel sufferers cope...
I have had flare ups of pain with my wrists that I generally manage with ice packs and splints over the last several years. But now the pain in my right wrist and palm is becoming chronic. I have also read about surgery having a 70% success rate in curing Carpal Tunnel.
Anyone out there had the surgery? Can we have such a surgery on the same arm as where our lymph nodes were removed, or does it likely lead to lymphedema??
-
I don't know about the lympedema, but I worked with many a person with CTS. The surgical intervention is way more than 70% successful in my opinion. In 11 years, I only had 2 that were not successful and that was because further surgical intervenion (at the elbow) was necessary, but not able to be identified before CT surgery. The CT surgery was indicated anyway.
May want to ck out the lymphedema threads and see what they have to say.
good luck, CTS is a real bummer and takes away so much of good rest with the night symptoms.

Donna, I've had surgery on both hands - and I've had nodes removed from both sides as well. I've not had any problems at all, as far as lymphedema is concerned. In addition to carpal tunnel in both hands, I had trigger thumbs. The right one was by far worse than the left, but I had the trigger release as well as the carpal tunnel release.
If you are interested, PM me and I'll give you the name and contact information for the surgeon who did mine. I understand that he's one of the best out there.

I also have CTS...it started a few months after I began Aromasin. I'm planning to have the surgery, but can't seem to find the time to take off from work (not my regular job...the aerobics one), so my hand doctor gives me cortisone injections every time it starts to flare up. For me, they work like a charm!
