    My doc wants to remove my port in his office with a local.  I can't imagine pulling out a tube that has to be several inches long through my body and a local is all I need.  I asked an aquaintance and she wasn't given that option and hers was removed under general anesthesia in an OR.  Can anyone help me with this decision?

    Hi pwing....

    Yep...count me in as being very skeptical about removing my port in the office, under local...in 10 minutes. Hey...you put it in in OP surgery under light gen.!!!!  He said..."trust me...piece of cake...you  won't feel a thing...out in 10 minutes....and you can drive yourself."

    Well...he was WRONG!  It took 11 minutes.  But he was right about everything else!  There was no pain whatsoever (well..of course...you feel the needle from the local), just some tugging and then it was out.  Slapped on some steri-strips after putting in a couple of self-absorbing sutures on the inside and I was out the door.  Sure....it was a bit sore for a few days but a couple of tylenol took care of that.

    No one was more surprised than me!  Honest...it was fine under local.

    My surgeon wanted to do the procedure in office also, I said absolutely not, knock me out! He did. Others have told me was a breeze, but I am a baby.

    Had mine done under a local. It was not as big a deal as having it put in by any means. 

    The only problem I had was that one of my dissolvable stitches didn't dissolve b/c it was in scar tissue, and I had to go back and have part of the incision reopened to get the suture out. The surgeon actually said he was having an increase in the number of patients with this problem, and he changed his suturing technique after my problem with it (lot of good that did me!).
