    Hi Everyone,

    This message board is a God-send - so much good advice!

    Here's my question: I had my first chemo treatment 9 days ago. I took the anti-nausea drugs and really did well with them. I've been able to work (part-time) and keep up on my regular activities without any problems. Am I on the upswing, or will I get more tired/sick before things get better? My chemo schedule is A/C every 3 weeks, however my next one is a little later because of a scheduling difficulty.

    Debbie - you may be a fortunate one in that you tolerate chemo well.  However, the effects of chemo do accumulate (sp?) so the other shoe may fall another treatment or two down the road.  I didn't experience the nausea that so many do - just debillitating fatigue on AC (but that was after maybe 3 or 4 treatments).  Hang in there, it will be over before you know it!

    I think after each treatment I felt different.  I attribute most of that to the way they infuse (the 2nd treatment was worse b/c she switched and gave me the C before the A or vice-versa, can't remember now).  But I was N/V from it.  Take the meds for anti n/v as they say and that should be okay.  But they do say they can be accumulative, so beware of that.  I had bad days about 4th or 5th after with depression from the steriods, but other than that, i'd start feeling pretty good for the next 2 weeks.  The 2 days after were the na/v and headaches and dizziness for me, but I think some of that was the kytril and zophran also.  Big thing..... make sure you keep up on your fluids and pee often with A/C to flush it out of your kidneys.  Don't hold it in! :)  Drink a ton of water the day before and of and after to compensate!

    I have to say that based on my experience, so far I had two ac treatments, and my problem has being constipation twice, however I most say that the meds they give you now are really great, I just had a couple of days that I just wanted to hide under my covers, dont talk to anyone, but otherwise, I have tolerated very good. I try to continue a normal life routine and keep a positive attitude, a plus.

    Debbie,

    I had 6 treatments with TAC 3 years ago and although I felt zapped 2-3 days after treatment, I never go terribly ill.  I had the normal side-effects such as constipation, taste issues and fatigue; but nothing that kept me down very long.  In fact, during the 6 treatments, I didn't even need a shot to bring the blood count back up. 

    Everyone is different and by the time you are on your last treatment, you will be pretty wiped out; but you have a great start and may never have really debilitating problems.  God bless you as you continue this journey.
