    Hello, and thank you for reading this.

    I am writing to get a sense of this on-line community. I am a nurse, and work at a large cancer center in the northeast U.S. In addition, I am finishing my dissertation proposal, and this website is one avenue I hoped might be helpful for finding women to talk to as part of my study.

    I am interested in the experiences of women whose cancer care was, or could have been, affected by Hurricane Katrina. What I would ultimately be asking of participants is if they would be willing to tell their stories on the internet. Again, this is not a solicitation- I am just wondering what you think. Would women be interested in participating in something like this?

    I am so grateful for your thoughts. I intend to do a very meaningful study which provides a voice for women who while battling breast cancer were forced to find ways to access care in the time of the disaster.

    CBW,

    I lived in Jackson MS on 8/29/05; and turned 40 that very day.  I did not even see the other storm brewing.   On 9/27/07, I was diagnosed with Stage II Breast Cancer.  While I can not say that the storm affected my treatment personally; there were many patients in my practice who were forced transplants from the MS coast.  These are patients who had to drive 3 to 4 hours just to receive routine care.  The aftermath of the storm was a very difficult time in the lives of many but even more difficult for those fighting to live.

    Good luck with any light you bring to these very brave people.
