Its almost time.......is everyone ready? I voted so many times last night-i hope it pays off-----Lil David "baby face" Archuleta-----IS GONNA WIN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
-
GO DAVID COOK!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
-
I hope that David Cook will win it too ... I voted probably 10 times last night (first time this season that I've voted...) I felt the needed the support after the judges all felt that David A had the best performances last night. I had a hard time getting through - most of the time the line was busy.
I like that David C really mixes things up ... I still think that David A pretty much sounds the same with every song he sings... He does have a beautiful voice - and I love to hear him sing Imagine ...
I loved that David C was showing all those emotions last night - and was really surprised to see him in tears.
I can't wait to see who's the new Idol!!! Still have a few hours to wait on the west coast though.

Guitar Hero w/ David Cook commercial mimicking Tom was hilariously awesome!
-
I really love both David's!
But my guess would be David Archuleta is the next AI....though you know how it goes...it won't be the end for either one !
-
Oh I so hope it is David Cook....this is the best show they have ever had...don't you think?
-
I've never flipped flopped so much...yes I agree a lot more artists from the past and floods of memories !
-
I was so thrilled to see Graham Nash...it's about time rockers got recognition.
-
...so I was a merely 12 million votes off ! Whos counting ?! LOL LOL
DAVID COOK the AI !!!!! They both were so AWESOME ...He reminds me a bit of Chris Daughtry.
-
Wow - I'm shocked! David Cooke won by 12 million votes?!!! I guess I'm just an old fart after all - I really liked David A better. Seems David C's rock style is more popular - also I suppose he does exude more sex appeal than sweet baby-face David A. Oh well......
-
WOW----- this was the best finale to date .....I missed some of the beginning, but what I caught was fantastic...They really did a great job this year, I still think this was the best competition at the end, most other years there was a definate winner weeks before the finale..I think Simon knew all along that David Cook would win, and wanted to make it closer by giving Daivd A more praise last night. I do think the judges really liked both of them this year, and it didn't matter which took the title, because in the end both will do great after the tour... WOW again.....Hugs KLynn
-
WOW did I say WOW???? LOL
-
WOW is what i thought also
-
Congratulations to David Cook - he sang the closing song extremely well tonight!
But for me - the totally best part was seeing and hearing Graham Nash again with Brooke singing one of my all time most favorite songs ever by Crosby, Stills, Nash and Young...Teach Your Children! That was such a thrill for me because I saw them in concert every chance I could in the 70's. Tonight's AI was really well done.
I still want an album from Jason and David A. Great show tonight!

Okay--I cheated!!! I am on the west coast (Oregon) and I just couldn't wait!! I am so thrilled about David Cook! I just LOVE him!! This is the first idol I have picked since Kelly Clarkson. SO GREAT!!!!! I am really looking forward to the show now. I know, I shouldn't have peeked!!!! OH WELL!!
Anne -
A big yay from the land down under who couldn't vote
Yay, yay,yay America I think you got it so right!!!!!! Both David's are great but the right one won.... yay.......
-
Hanna, I so agree with you about Graham Nash. I, too, went to many concerts in the 70's. I just saw CSNY a few years ago and plan to go again this year. Will be my 8th or 9th time!!Did you see Neil Young's movie a few years ago. Awesome!!! I cried when David Cook won...a rocker....ah, the best!!! Great show tonight..they did a great job.
-
Amanda did terrible, she looked like she was so unhappy to be there!!
-
Did you all hear that Luke Menard, remember him, the really handsome one, was dx'd with cancer. It's stage 2, hodgkins lymphoma. Sad but they say it's treatable and highly successful "cure" rate.
-
Yes, and he is so young. My prayers go out to him. Thank goodness it is treatable.
-
Wooohooo!!! My favorite won!!! I love David Cook!! He was so overwhelmed!! I am looking forward to his cd..one I will for sure purchase. I think they are both extremely talented and will have successfull careers!
I loved Graham Nash's performance as well. One of my favorite songs!
Did you notice the last shot of the show?? It was David's brother, mouthing to the camera..." That's my brother"!!
Awesome!!

I couldn't read this thread last night because I didn't want to find out who won before I saw it. WOW was what hubby and I said when the winner was announced because I thought it was going to be David A when I wanted David C to win. Either way, they are both winners and will do well. I can see myself buying a CD from David C but not David A, yet anyway.
-
Oh fooey. I'm kinda bummed, I thought it'd be my little cherub, David A. to win.
Can't write much, my son is on my lap demanding to play the Doodlebops game, but I can't wait to read Lisa's column.
Congrats to Cook, I always thought he was like Daughtry, too.
-
OK - was I the only one who thought the show was awful? It was like a concert of favorites past or a preview to the AI tour with a liberal sprinkling of AT&T and video game ads thrown in for good measure. I was sooooo upset with the pace of the show that I was ready to turn off the tv about 8:30, which was about the time that the guy with the white feathered/garbage bag-type cape came out to sing his song, complete with marching band and USC cheerleaders. But the moment that ticked me off the most was that stupid Gladys Knight and the Pips parody w/Ben Stiller, Jack Black and Robert Downy, Jr. WHAT?!?
And who in heaven's name gave Kristy Lee, Amiele, Jason Castro or Amanda a mike to sing any part of any song solo?!? They sounded an absolute mess!
Two highlights - other than the actual results - were Donna Summer (fantastic) and George Michael (who was awful!!). I thought David A should have won and America got it wrong, but, I didn't vote so I can't complain...
So sorry I didn't stick to my original plan and not watch until 9:45 or so...
-
what a show last night ... didn't understand the deal with all the oldies ... hadn't heard a thing from Bryan Adams in ages ... the Gladys Knight and the pips parody was awful ...
I thought Jason did another good job singing Haljelulah ... did you see his hands shaking ?? poor guy was really wound up tight ... Amanda really did seem to be very unhappy about being on Idol again ... that's awful news about Luke ... I hope he'll do well with the treatment and see NED soon.
Another interesting reflection was that I thought some of the top 12 were really talented - but their talent just didn't show last night ... It's amazing how much they grow as they go through the weeks of elimination on Idol.
what got me the most though was ... I TIVO'd it and wasn't watching live ... and it got to the point where Ryan S had the envelope - and was set to announce who'd won and the show ended since it went long ... I was sooo frustrated to not have seen the end of the show. I immediately got online and googled so I could find out who won ... I was highly aggrevated as the show is supposed to be the dang results show ... and they didn't manage the time well enough and it got cut off!!! They could have easily cut out the pips parody or some of the other crap (I hate the group numbers) though those dancers from so you think you can dance were amazing ... can't believe Ryan S got up and was dancing (or trying to) with them for awhile ...
Anyway ... way to go David Cook!!! Great things will happen for David A ... we'll definitely be hearing more about him.

The thing is, the show is/was so awful that it was actually fun to watch. Knowing that we're not going to get the results until the last 10 minutes frees us up to just be as snarky as we want while watching all the filler. That thing with the USC marching band -- wow, totally horrible, but we were rolling on the floor laughing and the whole family sang along "you are my brother".
We've been pulling for David Cook so were happy with the results. I think he seems like a nice guy. I do think his "rocker" reputation may be a little overblown -- he seemed perfectly happy singing the syrupy closing song and doing the guitar hero ad. He seems to have some idea of what being commercial is going to take.
-
Hey Doreen, that was your local station's decision. Up here in Portland they let the show run over with a running line under the screen saying "local news will follow in progress".
I have a problem with Jason's rendition of Hallelujah. I love that song. I love it by Leonard Cohen and Rufus Wainwright (the Shrek version). And I especially love it by Jeff Buckley:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AratTMGrHaQ
I like Jason's voice, but he says the "H" sound, when it is supposed to be a silent h. It sounds bad in the micophone, like blowing into it.

"American Idol": David Slays David
A record 97.5 million votes were cast for the Two Davids Tuesday night, "American Idol" host Ryan Seacrest says at the top of Wednesday's two-hour finale. That's the same, he explains, as if every single person in Canada, Spain, Ireland and Australia had cast one vote.
And what an infomercial it was! Only four minutes in, the Idolettes are already shilling for the Fox network's summer series "So You Think You Can Dance."
Carrie Underwood performs. (Michael Becker/FOX)Not coincidentally, Janice Dickinson is seen in the audience, shouting, "I love you!" at some poor unsuspecting Idolette onstage, by way of plugging herself and her Oxygen reality series, "The Janice Dickinson Modeling Agency."
By 8:13 p.m. they are shamelessly hawking the Paramount flick "The Love Guru," who, Seacrest insists, is the official "American Idol" guru. Of course it's Mike Myers playing Guru Pitka. And, just like the previous night with the whole boxing robes and gloves gag, David Cook seems way too comfortable for a rocker guy helping to promote this flick. The Two Davids go to meet Guru Pitka at his ashram. David Cook, his hair still looking like a freshly thatched roof, though the here-again-gone-again Coroner Munchkin sidecurls are gone again, greets Myers with the movie's faux salutation, "Mariska Hargitay."
Baby Elmo Archuleta, meanwhile, looks utterly miserable, listening to Myers talk about how he, Baby Elmo, is very young but soon will have hair "in weird and wonderful places."
"It was a very 'interesting' session -- I had no idea what he was talking about," Baby Elmo says, uncomfortably. Cook, on the other hand, vamps: "I thought his advice was contradictory 'cause I've read his book" -- something no self-respecting rocker would do.
The Two Davids are handed the keys to Ford Hybrid SUVs because, Seacrest says, they got great feedback on their starring moments in this season's Ford Music Videos.
Around 8:45, ABC late-night guy Jimmy Kimmel gets to do a few minutes of stand-up: "I valet-parked outside -- how much should I tip Sanjaya?" Da-dum-dum!
Not until 8:55 do we see one of the Davids -- Thatched-Roof David -- finally get to sing a whole tune. It's "Sharp Dressed Man," with ZZ Top. They've got a tour coming up this summer! What are the odds?
Last year's winner Jordin Sparks is living the "Idol" dream, we're told. "But why should I have all the fun?" she asks from Disney World. We agree.
Turns out, she shouldn't. You, too, can audition just like on "American Idol" at the American Idol Experience at Disney World in Florida, she says.
"You get to live the dream at the place where dreams come true."
Minutes later, Sparks magically travels all the way from Disney World in Florida to the [Cellphone Company] Theatre in downtown Los Angeles to sing live for the "Idol" audience. But why did they dress her in Mylar and send her to the Brooke White Dance Academy?
Failed Idolette Syesha Mercado gets to sing with Seal, lucky girl.
Jason Castro has to sing "Hallelujah" again, by himself again, while chicks in the audience squeal -- again.
Carly Smithson and Michael Johns -- this year's shoulda coulda woulda "Idol" finalists -- sing a duet, Chris Daughtry's audition song, "The Letter."
Poor Graham Nash is stuck singing "Teach Your Children" with Nanny Brooke. But he's touring this summer with David Crosby and Stephen Stills and, presumably, they wanted to plug it on "Idol." Apparently Nash drew the short straw.
The six Idolette chicks sing "She Works Hard for the Money" by way of introducing Donna Summer, who wants to perform her new single, "Stomp Your Feet," while those pesky "So You Think You Can Dance" dancers throw themselves around the stage. She has to be helped down the stairway to the stage by two men. It's sad.
Then Summer breaks into her cheesetastic disco anthem "Last Dance" and Syesha gets to sing and dance next to her, like the Ghost of Donna Summer Past -- and those darn "SYTYCD" dancers continue to fling themselves all over the stage.
The six Idolette guys then sing with Bryan Adams -- Canada's answer to Bruce Springsteen, you know. Canada, you'll recall, is one of those countries that passed a law requiring every citizen to cast exactly one vote in this year's "American Idol." And, what a coincidence, Adams has got a new album out, "11."
Here's the Jonas Brothers -- they've got a tour coming up in July and it will be turned into a 3-D movie!
We take a break from your commercials for the following programming: It's this season's worst-auditioners tape time. Which can only mean Seacrest is about to bring out:
Renaldo Lapuz!
In his Liberace-attending- a-costume-party-as-messenger-god-Hermes outfit!
With the USC Marching Band!
And the USC Song Girls! (pompom chicks to you and me)
And judges Randy Jackson and Paula Abdul once again climb onstage to hog/share the spotlight with Renaldo. Is this the best "American Idol" finale ever or what?
What's this? Thatched Roof gets ZZ Top and all Baby Elmo gets is to sing with One Republic?
Seacrest never bothers explaining why we're about to watch previously unseen footage of Gladys Knight auditioning the Pips in 1972. Oh, because it's actually Ben Stiller, Jack Black and "Iron Man" Robert Downey Jr. pretending to be Pips. Did you know they're starring in that "Tropic Thunder" flick coming out in August?
Oh, look! It's Season 4 "Idol" winner Carrie Underwood, who, The Washington Post Team TV Designated "Idol" Back-Up Watcher Tamara Jones points out, is dressed as a Wimbledon streetwalker. Underwood is singing her newest tune about hopping into the sack with a random guy and waking up married to him so she doesn't even know her new "Last Name." Hate when that happens.
The 12 Idolettes sing together one last time -- before singing together on tour for 2.5 months.
Biker Nurse has aged a decade and looks mondo mad to be there. Even so, they should swap out Ramiele Malubay or Nanny Brooke and put her in the Tour of the Top 10 because at least she's different. It's good to see Alleged Lapdancer again, too.
It's 9:47 and still no Dead Singers as rumored here and there, no "MJ" -- as in Michael Jackson -- as teased by "Idol" judge Paula Abdul on celebrity suck-up show "Extra," no "biggest star in the world" as promised by exec producer Nigel Lythgoe on Seacrest's radio show.
Then George Michael appears and all is forgiven. He's got a tour starting in June and recently released his CD, "Twenty Five." He sings "Praying for Time," which is on his new CD and which, gotta say, is much better performed by him than by Carrie Underwood on this season's "Idol Gives Back." All three "Idol" judges, Randy Jackson, Paula and Simon Cowell, give him a standing ovation.
Randaula announces it's been one of the strongest "Idol" years ever and vows this is the start of the Two Davids' "destinies of their careers" and that it just goes to show "how truly special we are as people."
Simon then launches into a lengthy apology to Thatched Roof for having said, in keeping with the previous night's whole strained boxing-match theme, that he got knocked out by David Archuleta. We smell a set-up; Simon knows something.
At 9:59 p.m. Seacrest announces Thatched Roof is our new American Idol, pounding Baby Elmo by a whopping 12 million votes.
On cue, Thatched Roof begins to sing his new credibility-crushing "American Idol" Treacle Tune, "Time of My Life":
And I'll taste every moment
And live it out loud
I know this is the time,
This is the time
To be more than a name
Or a face in the crowd
I know this is the time
This is the time of my life
Time of my life -
Ok.....Daniel is in bed, sleeping, so I can share some other thoughts.
I TOTALLY agree that George Michael was LOUSY. OMG. I was embarrassed for him. In the beginning, I thought he was being silly. The man is just too old for the "sexy" thing, and I just wanted him in his little white shorts singing, "Wake me up, before you go-go."Paula-I cracked up at one point, after she danced wildly during one number, the camera flashed to her trying, and I do mean TRYING to get back in her seat. At first, her butt couldn't find her seat because she wasn't looking, and she nearly missed. Then, she couldn't do it very well, because it was so snug-fitting in the hips and waist area. She leaned back flat as a board, then bent at the waist to plop into her seat.
I thought that "I Am Your Brother," bit was horrible, and I was embarrassed for that poor guy. He has no idea he was being made a spectacle of.
I totally agree that Simon "knew" something. He was on Letterman (I think it was that?) saying he "Wanted Cook to win," the night before. Then he chews Cook apart during the finale, then saves face by apologizing to him JUST BEFORE THE RESULTS?!?! Come on.
I was mad. I turned off the show, stormed into the bedroom and announced, "I'm NEVER WATCHING THAT SHOW AGAIN."
Of course, dh looks at me and says, "Honey, you say that every season....."
True.I wanted Diana DeGarmo to win from the moment I watched her.
I knew Carrie Underwood was going to win, and the others didn't stand a chance.
I was totally pushing for Katharine McPhee. She, too, had a MUCH better voice.Poor Archie. I adored that kid. I want him to go far!
-
Well, I am glad that I am not the only one to notice that Amanda was mad to be there. She wouldn't even dance right. Poor girl had her chance, didn't win and here is getting even more exposure to scouts, artists and fans and she can't bother doing it right or cheerfully! She needs to get enlightened instead of feeling entitled!
Sally, I tivo'd my show and missed the ending. With tivo, it's programmed to start and stop at certain times. If the show goes overtime, you lose the ending. I had to go online and see a clip of the ending.
I think Syesha will end up with a contract as will Michael Johns and Carly. They did a fantastic job.
Overall, I thought the show was one big commercial. I still don't understand the Idol experience at Disneyworld. What does one do? Get up in front of judges and sing karaoke or what?
