Sandy, my ps likes to wait 6 - 8 weeks after final fill until exchange. He let me 'live' with a size I thought I liked for 4 weeks but when I went back I wanted a little bit more (boob greed here), I don't think I was quite the size I was prior to surgery. He put another 60 cc in and I went back 4 weeks later and we scheduled the exchange 3 or 4 weeks later. We were trying to get as much done before the first of the year as possible.

Sandy, the ps exlpained the expander like this:
The skin is elastic so think of it like a rubber band. If you stretch a rubber band and then immediately let it go, it springs back to the way it was. But if you stretch it for a long period of time, it may go back a little but will stay pretty much the same way. That is why they sometimes overfill a little and also why they wait 4-6 weeks between the last fill and the exchange. I am very lucky he feels he can do the final recon at the same time.
Hope this helped!
Sheila, I still have not made up my mind on the tatoos and/or nipples. I have time to make a decision and it can be done at any time afterwards. Maybe I just need to adjust to being a new normal first.

TGIF FINALLY!!
Got our tax refund so I spent the morning, so far, scheduling our bill payer to catch up on overdue bills. Glad to be current now on so many accounts. Still have more to go.
The very best thing happened yesterday in regard to bills. I owed, mistakenly IMHO, quite a bit of money to Fox Chase Cancer Center. I talked to a woman in billing who must have been a supervisor. Apparently, they do not outsource their collections either. When I told her our situation and that I can't afford to pay them right now, she sent me forms for financial aid. It will wipe out any balances and I can be treated for this year without paying anything. Took a very large weight off of my shoulders.
Hope the rest of the month goes just as well. Have a splendiferous weekend everyone!
-
TGIF everyone. Great news Beth about the financial aid available to you. I also got the explanation that the skin and muscles are rubberbands and if they are not stretched out long enough to the size you want, they will snap back and the softer implant won't be able to hold it in place.
I got a txt msg from my son and he has passed the test to get his ESWS (Enlisted Surface Warfare Specialist) badge. This is a big thing to get. They can only take the test while on deployment. They learn about other jobs on the ship and the test is written as well as oral. He passed the written test the other week with a score of 96, and he just said in his txt 'I got it'. we had been talking about this test so I knew that he was talking about it. He also said that he may not be home for Mother's day but will be home for a visit sometime in May.

I'll add my TGIF to the rest. I did my usual 3 water aerobics classes, had lunch with a neighbor one day, and had a pleasant, normal week.
I did start a beginning yoga class on Sunday morning. I think it will help my neck and back to release some of the stiffness I've had lately. I picked this class because it's taught by the same instructor as my Monday Water Aerobics, but I discovered when I walked in last week that she had a sub for a couple of weeks. Oh well I liked class anyway, and I'm determined to go until I actually see her there.
Catch all of you later. Have a good weekend.
-
Congrats on the financial aid. I'm still getting billed for an amount I DO NOT owe from my cancer center. I have gone round and round with them until I just feel like crying.
Sheila, that is great news for your son. I know you must be very pleased with him. My son was with me last year for Mother's Day... I was getting chemo and he probably thought it might be my last Mother's Day! Just goes to show ya!
Debbie, I hope to start water aerobics soon. My doctor is giving me a hard time, but I desperately need exercise! Congrats on keeping with it. You're an inspiration and an encouragement!
My positive for this week is just being grateful to get through a LONG work week. I'm so happy to be able to relax some now!
God bless!

Hi Ladies today I saw my 2nd opinion oncologist. He agreed with the 1st one that I might be fine with hormone treatment but also said I would be a good candidate for the tailorx clinical trail. They are taking women with oncotype scores between 11-25 half get chemo other half get hormone therapy. So I have to decide this weekend if I want to join that and have a 50/50 chance at getting chemo, my score was 16. If I do it will be TC which I feel comfortable taking if I need to. Good news Monday I'm getting another fill : ) It might start to look close to my good breast (or should I say saggy lol)

This sounds like a great opportunity. Sounds like you're leaning toward saying YES! I hope it goes well.
Happy boobing on Monday, too!

It's FRIDAY!!!!
I have some great news to share. I was called this past Wednesday and asked if I want to be a model in the local Breast Cancer calendar for 2009 with my mom. Of course I said yes! We go Wednesday to get the portrait made. Katheryn liked the mother/daughter aspect in the calendar, she has some cousins also lined up for the calendar. In this year (2008) there is a father/daughter. I will find out more info on when it will be released (I think October).
I also have heard from my son and he will be here May 9th for 10 days! He also wrote a statement to be used for Mother's day at church on what my mother means to me. It made me cry.
My mother...is the one person who has always been there to protect, provide, watch after and support me in everything I've done in my life. Without her I could not have done the things that I've done. She is my inspiration. Love John
It never really dawns on you, what your children see in you until it slaps you upside the head in a great 'hallmark card' moment.
I need to get to work now (wiping tears again). Everyone have a great weekend.

Hi all well Monday I started the tamoxifin and haven't noticed any side effects yet. I'll have to go to that forum and see when I may start to feel them.
Good news Wednesday night I got out for a good 24 mile bike ride and set a better pace than I did a few weeks ago. Plus last night I got out for my 1st run. I'm looking forward to getting my strength built back up again.

Hi to all of you,
I had a fairly good week. I finally found some new Aqua Shoes for my water aerobics. The ones I had were over a year old and were falling apart. I've been checking Wal-Mart in vain for the past month. A friend in my class mentioned that she got her shoes at Academy and that they weren't too expensive. There was only one color, but they did have 1 pair in my size. Woo Hoo!
I made it to the Beginning Yoga class again this morning. The regular instructor was there and I liked her class. I even bought a Yoga Mat to take to class. When I was looking for the aqua shoes at Wal-Mart on Tuesday I went into the Sporting Goods dept, and this bright pink Yoga Mat almost jumped off the shelf into my hands. I could have resisted if it had been a dull brown, green, or black, but I had to get the pink one. I'm sending you all the Good Karma that I'm feeling after class.
Wow, Sheila! What a nice tribute from your son. I'm glad he gets to visit you for Mother's Day.
I signed up for my local Relay For Life again this year. It will start on Friday evening. Last year I barely made it past the Survivor's Lap. This year we plan to take our lawn chairs, and since we'll have a place to sit maybe we'll last until they light the Luminerias. They added a Caregiver's Lap this year so I signed my hubby up for that. If they had one last year, I don't remember it.
Take care.

So nice to feel like that thing is OUT OF THERE. I felt better too, to know why I was feeling ill and down for months and now to have it taken care of.
I see a lot of women in the Wellness Center for Breast Cancer Recovery NYC, and its nice to see the ones like you who are so upbeat, then see the ups and downs through treatment. Keeping the side effects and 'bumps in the road' at bay so that they don't have to be a huge beast on our backs that's what we do, and I hope you can do that too.
We'll all be fine.

Hi everyone I hope everyone is having a good week. I went back to work half days this week and will go back full time next week. This weekend some of my friends are putting on a 8-12 hour adventure race which I hope to help them with again this year. Last year when all the racers were done one of my friends left me used her harness and try repelling. After that I was hooked : ) I was hoping to race it this year but will settle for giving a helping hand : )

Hi, I almost forgot to post my positives for the week. My son called from Guam on Sunday and said he can't wait to get home on the 9th.
-
Wow, I guess it is Friday isnt it??? This week has gone by soooooo fast for me.....busy goofing off with life itself as well as busy at work....
Good positive for this week: Ive been so busy that I havent had time to worry about my up coming 6 month follow up
....its not even until May 16th but the anxiety was beginning to climb....now that I think about it maybe its the meds the doctor put me on last week......whatever it is...I will take it!!!! I was really getting tired of not being able to sleep and being nervous all the time!!!!!
Hope you all have a wonderful weekend......Sheila, the 9th will be here before you know it...Im so glad your son is coming for a visit....

It just hit me, my biopsy was one year ago today. I was laughing and joking with the radiologists and surgeon about it being groundhog day and expecting Bill Murray to come through the door. It was my third biopsy since Jan 2005. the first two were b9 but the odds caught up with me. I did get bad news this week, my favorite Breast surgeon is leaving the hospital in Hickory and going to larger facility in Charlotte. He did release me in January though, but if I need any additional surgeries, I will have to go to Charlotte or see another doctor.

I just read this in a e-mail and had to share it:
I don't have hot flashes
I have short private
vacations in the tropics

Hi everyone,
I made it home from my Relay For Life about an hour and a half ago. I had a wonderful time again this year. We remembered to take lawn chairs so we had a nice place to sit while waiting for everything to start. I filled out 5 Luminaras, one for each member of my family who has survived a cancer. This year they also had "angel" luminarias, so I filled out one of those for my hubby. The survivor lap was as moving as it was my first time last year. They also had a caregiver lap this year. The dinner they served us was very yummy, pasta and salad from Carino's Italian Grill plus a cheese tray, veggie tray and fruit tray. There were enough tables and chairs for everyone to sit down and eat, too.
There was a 50% chance of rain for tonight, but it didn't start until after we got home. My hubby thought he saw some lightning just before we went to our car, and we saw a few flashes on our way home. Thank goodness that we were home before it started to pour (and some hail, too). The people still out on the field might be running for cover about now.
I think I forgot to mention how well my hair is coming along. A couple of weeks ago I had the neckline trimmed again, and now it's looking almost like I intended to do it this way. There is a bit more gray than I like, but it is still growing, and there are a few more waves than I had before so it's a trade off.
Sandy, I think I have a few of those mini-vacations everyday.
Sheila, I bet that you can hardly wait for May 9 to get here.
As Jule said, have a great weekend.

Hi Gals,
Good to see everyone is doing well and is busy with life.
My positive is I talked my rad onc into releasing me! I saw him last week and he said although he usually sees folks for several years, he was willing to let me go! The fact that I'll still be seeing my med onc and my BS made up his mind. Although, I love my rad onc, I have too many doctor appointments all the time!! So it's a good thing!
I've been really tired lately, so try to lift me up in prayer if you think of me.
Love you all,
Miss S

I love your positive saying and all the neat ways you help pick each other up. God bless you for all the people you do not know you help. Fighting but will win! Debbie

Sandy, I also am having one of the vacations in the right now. I keep a small fan in my office pointed towards my face just for those vacations.

I am going to post my positive early this week. My son will be landing in Charlotte at 6:00 am Friday. I can't wait to see him. I have been starting some of his favorite foods. He was home last June after my surgery and after my father in law passed away. If he hadn't come home for the funeral, it would have been almost 18 months without seeing him.
Hope all have a positive week-end.

Hello All and Happy Friday.
I didn't check in last week because I didn't have anything new to say. It was just one of those weeks when nothing much happened either good or bad. I didn't do much different this week, but I do have a couple of positives to post.
First, when I weighed myself this morning I was another 5 pounds down. That makes 25 pounds I've lost since last July when I started following the Food Plan for diabetes and a total of 35 pounds since my diagnosis with BC in December of 2006. If this keeps up I may make it down to my weight from 20 years ago.
Next, I had a nice massage on Thursday. My massage therapist noticed that my neck and back are beginning to loosen up a bit. The Yoga classes are paying off. I plan to keep up the class once a week in addition to my water aerobics.
And finally, my hair is doing wonderfully. One day this week after my shower I decided to blow dry and style my hair. I couldn't believe how nice it looked. In no time, I'll be getting a real hair cut and style.
Sheila, I hope your son had a good flight and made it home. Have a great Mother's Day.

Hi:
My positive is that I made a decision to change oncology practices. Gave the old one a year to replace my original Dr. No luck, so after 12 months of temporary doctors, I've found a wonderful oncologist who also has a great positive attitude. I feel like a huge weight has been lifted from my shoulders. Take charge - YES!
-
Jrp, glad to hear that you got your oncology problem resolved. Feel free to post anytime you have something positive. Even if you are down, we will try to lift you up.

I'm either late for last week or early for this week, but I thought I post my positives now before I forget to do it.
#1. There's a lady in the water aerobics class before mine who has a little business of bringing in swimsuits and cover ups to sell. Her prices are pretty good, but everytime I looked at them there was nothing I liked that might even remotely fit me. That all changed on Monday, I saw the feeding frenzy cluster of women as I walked into the pool area and went over to take a look. She had a new batch of suits in larger sizes from $6-$12. I saw a bit of bright pink in the pile and asked to see that suit. It wasn't all pink, though, it was more of a color gradient that started with peachy color at the top and ended with dark purple at the bottom. It had all my favorite colors and it was my size, too. I tried it on, I left it on for class that day. The old suit I've been wearing lately was so stretched out that I needed an excuse to throw it out. Some days things are meant to be. This new suit with all the bright colors lifted my spirits for the rest of the day. I plan to save this suit and another one I just bought for my little trip in July.
#2. This evening I finished the scrapbook for our Aqua Angels' Lunch in April so the ladies will have the new pages to see tomorrow when we got out to lunch after class. I had the flim developed over a week ago, but I seem to wait till the last minute to do the pages for the book.
I hope everyone had a good Mother's Day and will have a safe Memorial Day next week end.
Welcome, jrp, and come back anytime. When you have a decision like that hanging over your head it is always nice to finally do something and move on. Your new doc sounds so wonderful.
Until next time.
