Slowly but surely is the way to do it- and we are all doing it. I have no loss to report this week but I am hopeful for next week and feel like I am moving in a good direction. I have been exercising a lot more and yesterday switched back to the Core Plan which is feeling much easier to manage for me and I have stuck with it faithfully for the last two days. Cally I use a digital scale that also measures bodyfat although I don't know how accurate the body fat measure is on these things.

Basha- congratulations on the 10 pound milestone!

    April 2- 130.4

    April 9-130.6

    April 16-127.2

    April 23-128.2

    April 30- 128.2

    Total loss 2.2 pounds

My husband has lost 7 pounds thanks to the changes in our diet.

I am exhausted so must run to bed- today was a crazy day and tomorrow may be about the same- after that things will be easier through the weekend. Best to all. Feel better Cally!

    Greetings you losers,

How crazy! Although one more little lb has dropped by the wayside...

I think I need to stay steady at this weight. My tummy is quickly disappearing and I need

it for the DIEP reconstruction w/matsx this May 28!

I meet w/the PS on May 12. We'll see what he has to say.

I tried tp will the weight (not exercise) to leave my thighs instead, but alas.

I'm just getting over a week n' a half virus that knocked me. I didn't get sick while juicin'

chemo - figures now I catch it. lol. Maybe all sorts of nasty stuff is working its way

    out of my body.

I hope and trust that you will all continue to buff up and lose and tomne - especially those of us

ending treatments and/or enjoying the warmer weather.

I'm off to run the dogs.

    Go ladies go!

I started WW on May 6th.  I previously lost 50 lbs on WW.  I quit when I was diagnosed and I put on about 30 lbs through treatment.  I'd like to blame it all on the steroids, but I threw myself a long "I have cancer pity party".  I started working out at the gym 4 days a week in January and I lost 10 lbs, but now I'm on a plateau.  I hope the structure of WW will help me lose those last 23 lbs.  Starting weigh-in 173 lbs.

Welcome DATO ! My Cancer pity party was usually held at Coldstone Creamery .. hehe, where was yours ? So you have 20 to go like me.

Cally ! Congrats ..and yes I have 'thunderthighs' and flat abs arghh.. worked against me could only do silicone implants.

How did the birthday party go ? I usually end up munching on the chips and dipping into the cake .. very dangerous zone for me.

Allyson holding steady is an accomplishment !

Well gals I have been quiet cause I have been guilty..I really seem to lose it when I get tired. Last saturday I went on a bike ride where we went to a not-so-well-off neighborhood where we handed out bikes to kids and did a 7 mile ride with them educating them on how to ride safely on the roads. Then I had to take a CPR class so did not come home for close to 12 hours.. and on my way back I first stopped at McD burger&fries.. then 7/11 for icecream sandwich, donut and milky way ( my regular trio)!  and then I lost my weight loss mojo..

    so here it is:

    April 1 - 164

    April 8 - 164.6
    April 15 - 163.2

    April 22 - 162

    April 29 - 160.4

    May 6 - 161.8

    total loss: 2.2 pounds

I am trying to get back on track but I found out that my trigger is fatigue, so I get caught in a vicious cycle.. I get hotflashes, they wake me up, so I get up and eat, then I do not sleep well.. the next day I am tired I eat to stay up and functioning.. cause I eat a lot I get hotflashes --->>> if I stay on WW hot flashes really diminish.

So my goal is to sleep well, then I will have more willpower I think.

Thursday weigh in girls.. how did it go ?

Slow and steady, that's me- how did you know I was holding steady Aylin, when I hadn't even posted yet. I am impressed by your psychic powers! Smile I am hoping that my lack of a big loss (again) was due to heavy soy sauce consumption over the last couple of days. I have been eating one of my favorite quick meals- Chinese style scallion omelet over brown rice and spinach, seasoned with a tiny bit of sesame oil and more than a tiny bit of soy sauce. My husband and I never tire of this combo- it's really yummy and a good use of all our eggs.

    April 2- 130.4

    April 9-130.6

    April 16-127.2

    April 23-128.2

    April 30- 128.2

    May 8- 128.0

I have nothing dramatic to report in the way of bad eating behavior. I did find one last bag of chocolate my closet that I'd bought as a gift. Ate it myself over the course of the week- it wasn't very big- 5 servings total. Now that that is done with I think the house is free of ready to eat sweets. I have done a good job of refraining from buying anything else and am giving myself major credit for that. Also I have been working out 5 days a week- even on days off I take a walk because I like to. Swimming totally kicks my ass.  How can something that looks so effortless be so tiring? I am liking the swimming but it is a tougher workout for me than a bike or a run' always want to nap the rest of the day.

I've been shifting back and forth between resting, house chores, and making my grocery lists- one for Trader Joes, one for our buyers'club/co-op, and one for the regular grocery store. My TJ list includes frozen berries, frozen fish, no spray frozen chopped spinach, whole wheat and raisin english muffins ( 2pts), whole wheat pasta, organic apples, whole wheat pre-made pizza dough (very convenient and costs about a dollar). I find these staples very good to have around at all times. Trader Joes also has these little bran muffins that are 1 pt each- I might buy some if I am too lazy to bake my own- they're very good. I also like this frozen seafood blend that they have- calamari, scallop, and shrimp- great for all sorts of fast meals.

You guys are doing great. Cally are you the biggest loser since we started here?

Just FYI all you losers out there (thanks Cally), the food log/let's get specific thread that I started a while back has been resurrected. It's a great way of keeping oneself honest and also a way that we can learn from one another, get meal ideas, etc.

Aylin- re: the eating when you're tired/fatigued- I know for me this can be a huge problem. Getting enough sleep makes all the difference in both my appetite and self control. I bet you'll find a difference if you get those sleep hours you need.

    Good morning,

Oooh that Ben & Jerry's tasted good last night! (sort of). It felt more like compulsion over comfort food.

Allyson, I just had a look at the food log thread - look's great, though I'm not sure that I will be able to make time/NRG to do it all the time. I never have before, but see it's sure value, thanks.

Aylin, the fatigue eating is my absolute downfall, though I'm noticing I'm not getting the trill I used to when trying to make food the antidote. Something that sometimes works for me - having some ginger, or dandelion root tea - it breaks the impulse for sweet, for a few short moments anyway.

Substitution and putting it off sometimes also works. eg: I'll eat this apple instead of this Milky Way, and if I STILL want a MW in three hours, I can have it. Or, I'll have a pellegrino instead of a milkshake, and if I STILL want it tomorrow morning,I can have it, etc...

The party was fahhbulous! 14 - 13 yr old girls doing archery, coming in to make sandwich wraps, opening presents, almost all of them sitting on each other on one couch when there is another couch & chairs in the room. They text & take pictures w/their phones all the time. Their relationships to their phones is on a different level than my 15 yr old & her friends. They roasted marshmallows/made smores at the bonfire - & then my hubby set off some big fireworks. It was a blast.

Good luck at your onc appt. It's nice not seeing/thinking about them isn't it? I'm starting to get a little nervous about my upcoming surgery. I think the arthritis they saw in my back at bone scan is making itself known to me. I believe they have me sitting up for the duration of the surgery. I'll know more after seeing the PS on Monday, the 12th. I'm also trying to know who/where my support will really be coming from these days. The players seem to be changing.

Thanks for all your parts in it! Staying fit is half the battle in my eyes!

    Go ladies go!

I had my first weigh-in yesterday.  After 1 week I lost 1.6 lbs.  I was hoping for more, but the weigh-in lady said that 1-2 lbs/week is the best, and I'm right in that ballpark.

    5/6:   173

    5/13: 171.4

    Only 22.4 lbs to go!

Sorry gals, I took a detour and am trying to do the WW core following the PH Miracle. I am having sooo much hard time finding foods to eat.

no dairy, no meat/poultry, minimal amount of fruits and of course no bad fats and no sugar whatsoever.

I better move to a pasture and start grazing! wheat grass . kale broccoli are coming out of my ears !!!

Can I still be in you gals' ww thread with this regimen ? Would love to share the nutrition journey even if we are taking different paths !

but.. I think I managed it cause the weight suddenly is plummeting at 157 today !!!

Trigeek - what is the PH miracle?

Can I join you guys in a week or so?  I finished chemo on May 8th and I'm giving my body another week to recover (i.e. eat whatever tastes decent and gives me comfort) and then I plan to start on WW, to try to lose some of the 15 lbs I've gained since my dx in December.  I have surgery scheduled for June 26th and would like to lose 5 lbs or so by then, and slowly start exercising to get my body stronger.  Then I'm hoping to lose another 10-15 lbs after radiation, and work on my abs prior to DIEP reconstruction in early '09.

I've done WW several times through work so I have all the tools, but I don't want to pay for another group, I just want to start counting points on my own.

It seems like you all have done well with it so far -- congrats!

    Hello --

Been a couple of weeked since checking in ----

But my weigh-in Thursday  5/16  was a LOST of 2.6  pounds  yayyyy

Last week -- Thursday 5/8 was a LOST of     .6 pounds and that was FRUSTRATING to me especially since hubby and I biked 14 miles on Sunday 5/4 (Our anniversary lol ) and I started to walk a couple more times in the evening hrs that week.

But I was happy this time with the 2.6 pound lost -- been on weight watchers now  7 weeks.  So far with WW lost 8.4, and 5 pounds prior to WW since Valentines Day.  But obvioulsy doing it on my own from 2/14 - 3/25 and losing 5 pounds --- I needed more structure of a prg.

Like others have said 1-2 pound lost per week is positive amt to loose and keep it off.

I look forward to my Thursdays--- heres to continued pounds dropping LOL  .....

trigeek--just rejoined WW 2 weeks ago (lifetime member from way back) and have already lost 5 pounds.  I decided that I have to stop blaming the tamoxifen and menopause for my extra pounds and take control!

Unlimited- a 2.6 loss in one week would be HUGE for me. Congratualtions on your steady progress. I know how frustrating it is when it seems like you should have lost more and those numbers don't seem to reflect your efforts- grrr.

It was nice to log on and find new people joining. Anne- good for you re: taking control. I can personally tell you that menopause (natural or tx induced) and hormonal tx do not doom one to being overweight. I've been in menopause approaching 1 year now and am also on Lupron Depot and Femara. Lorena- congratulations on finishing the chemo- for me it was all uphill after that. Ditto on not wanting to join WW again. I have found this a great way to do it- doing the program on my own with support/accountability here. Aylin- curious re: the diet you are doing. I can't imagine why you couldn't continue on this thread. Broccoli and kale are definitely core foods Smile. Cally- hope all is well. I am thinking your surgery is coming up soon.

    Total 37 pounds !!! woohooo !!!!

Hope I did not miss anyone...will do the 'smileys' on Fridays !

    AWB Welcome !

Lorena hop on board.. good for you in taking back control of your life quickly.

Awb.. I am with you girlfriend, started tamox last week and I see that little white pill as 'my closest friend' for the next 5 years which will set any of my cells straight in case they have a 'thought' about going c way !!! So we will not get any of the se's right ??

Allyson,Lorena The Ph Miracle in a nutshell is:

"It can be as simple or as difficult as you want to make it. Bottom line to his program entails 3 things:
    1. Super-hydrate the body by drinking plenty of water (4-5 liters a day)
    2. Alkalize the body by eating foods high in alkalinity (and this is where people get stuck ... you don't have to eat like them and fix all those fancy meals ... simply increase the % of veggies at each meal).
    3. Supergreens - if you can't get enough veggies, and most of us can't, then use the supplements or powder. I mean you really can't beat them - 49 different organic grasses, vegetables and sprouts; as well as 125 different vitamins, minerals and amino acids. "

They also cut out all sugars ( artificial and natural) , dairy.. and are minimizing fruit intake, and going vegetarian. So far the energy is good, even did a 40 mile bike ride yesterday ! ( I did take a Green bar which has fruit sugars though).

Well happy sundays everyone ! and have a stellar week..

Cally let usknow how you are doing !

    Hello ladies,

Good to hear you all, newcomers too! Lorena, another thread for us!

I'm trying to hold steady at last weigh in. Went up and down one or two - but

trying to hold on to the belly until the 28th! I'm hoping that more in the belly may mean less skin tightness. After 3 weeks of a miserable low-NRG virus, I started to feel better this last week & lengthened my hike/runs a bit.

Aylin, the PH diet sounds optimal. I have difficulty caring for kids & family & eating separately for myself - so I try to up my juicing greens to 2x/day when I can, eat LOTS of broccoli, brussel sprouts, caulifower.

Of course, cutting out all sugar is the tough one, but I continue to work on that!

I'm supplementing with Chlorella tabs (among other things), 4 - 2x/day. It helps alkalize the bod.

I AM getting pretty nervous these days, especially because I've been waking up with my right arm (prev. lumpec & SNB) with neuropathy. It's petty scary & seems to mostly fix itself when I stand up. That and my lower back aches don't bode too well for 8-10 hr surgery with long recovery in bed! So I've begun to stretch, not up to Yoga yet - and I'm seeing my body worker 2 more x before surgery & the alternative doc 1x.

Lorena, after my Breast surgeon appt tomorrow, I'll visit with another DIEP patient (done!) of my docs. I'll let you know any info I receive.

So that's it great loser ladies... trying with nutrition & exercise (I also will pump up meditation), to maximize my chances at good outcome.

Be losers! Go ladies! I'll be happy to join you all in full force soon!

Cally- I love your system for me it is actually CoolCoolCoolCoolKissKissKiss if we count from just before dx last year. Or maybe we are just counting since the start of the thread and I shouldn't be greedy with the Cool LOL. Aylin- that diet sounds sensible- makes me think I will go have a glass of powdered barley grass drink- I like that stuff but haven't had much in a while. Have a lovely rest of the weekend all and Cally thinking good thoughts re: your upcoming surgery.

I personally do not think we need any more 'slaps'... and am all for 'pats on the back' so ..I say nay for backsliding smileys.. lets just go for the 'good smileys' and then you'll just lose some smileys if you gain. Thoughts ? ( like when I weighed this morning I no longer am Cool but a KissKissKissKiss) Hopefully by Friday it will be back.

Ally girl I was thinking of intentional weight loss, did you lose some  with the chemo ? Sure your smileys will come in after all you lost them.. maybe we should take out the ones that you lost with chemo what do you say ?

Cally sometimes things happen and we all blame it on BC and  its treatments, maybe you are laying in a different position thus all the bod aches ? Healing vibes your way and wishing you a nice cushy foob !

Aylin-your idea works for me- we'll skip the bad faces (although we could feel free to punctuate our comments with them when necessary as usual). I am good with sticking with smileys for weight loss since starting the thread. Re: my weight loss during (and before) chemo, it was all intentional, I wasn't ill during chemo- no metallic taste, loss of taste, nausea, nada- weird, huh! I it hadn't made me exhausted, made all my hair fall out, and made me look like death warmed over I might have thought they had cheated me and put saline solution (along with a little red dye for part of it) in the IV.

OK, I am all set to start counting points tomorrow, so I decided I should brave the scale and see what my starting point is.  I do not have a scale at home and I don't want to buy one -- I really don't want to get into that obsessive cyle of weighing myself all the time.  In the past, I always went to the gym on Saturday mornings and would weigh in there, but between my post-chemo low energy and my bald head, I'm not planning on working out at the gym for a while.  So I thought I could use a scale at work that is used for weighing packages.  Guess what?  It only functions up to 150 lbs and I weigh more than that (yikes! the only time I've ever weighed this much before was when I was pregnant) -- it flashed a number that looked like 156 and then showed a row of zeros.

Hmm, I guess I have to find a friend with a scale, or swing by the gym once a week to weigh in, until I get below the 150 mark.  Bummer.

Congrats to all of you who are moving in the right direction and eating well.  I'm hoping that the smaller portions and reminders about eating the right amount of fruits/veggies/dairy etc. will help me to feel healthier and get the residual chemo ickiness out of my system.

I weighed in on Tuesday and lost another 1.6 lbs so my total now is 3.2 lbs.

CallyGee, I can identify with you and your upcoming DIEP surgery.  I'm having mine done in October.  In the mean time I'm in training for my surgery.  I'm going to the gym 3-4 days a week.  I bought a package of 16 sessions with a personal trainer and I have seen so much improvement that I just bought another package of 16 sessions.  My goal is to get my body, particularly my abs, into the best shape I can and to lose the excess weight.  My work-outs are going well and now with WW I'm losing the weight.  With Breast Cancer I felt such a loss of control.  Now it feels good to be in control to do some really positive things for my body.

Here's to all of us having a healthy long weekend to celebrate the unofficial start of summer.

    Darlene
