I'm just so sad right now.  I am two months (exactly) after chemo and I went to put on mascara today and all of my top eyelashes fell out.  I have been so upset all day.  Just when I'm starting to feel good and have been "excited" about my peach fuzz on my head......now this.

I look awful and sick without eyelashes.  I have had long, dark and thick ones my whole life.  Please tell me if this has happened to anyone else and how long it takes before I can look normal again?

    As always,

    Thanks soooooooo much!

andrea-the taxotere is the culprit, in some people it happens later, mine fell out during my last two taxol tx. like you i had long thick lashes, i also lost all my eyebrows. the good news is they grew in very quickly, i've been done with chemo for one year they are not back to the same length and thickness but they slowly seem to be getting there. in the meantime you can use false eyelashes or lot's of eyeliner to highlight your eyes. hang in there you will be back to normal soon. take care!

Andrea - don't fret...your lashes will come back.  I lost all the hair on my body.  There was some I didn't mind if it never came back.  LOL  But, after a coulple of months I did get my eyelashes and eyebrows back.  I didn't have nice thick long lashes to start with, and mine have come back in a bit crinkly and short.  But given time, and I've heard it can take about a year or so, things do get back to normal.  It's all temporary.

Andrea, get yourself some false eyelashes.  You can get ones that look quite real.. not the super long 'drag queen' type, but regular length.  They'll get you through.

    Good luck.

Andrea, I lost mine at the end as well.  In fact, once they grew back, I lost them again.  It was explained to me that since they grow back in at the same time, the lashes are on the same "fall-out" cycle...since we normally lose them at different times, we don't notice it so much.  It can take a couple cycles for them to get on different normal fall-out schedules.  Don't fret.  They'll be back.

Oh, yeah. I lost mine after A/C.  Six weeks after finishing, then again after another three months, then again for a third time after another three months.  Wow, what fun, right?  Sheesh.

Not to worry, they grow back in pretty fast.  In fact, about as soon as they have all fallen out, you will see them coming back in.  The brows fell out only once but that was the worst!

    Andrea,

I understand what you are going through.  For me it was not bad losing my hair because I could wear a wig but once the eyebrows and eyelashes went you just can't hide it anymore.  I lost my eyelashes around the last tx of Taxol Dec. 21.  They did come back in but I am noticing they are starting to come out again.  Hang in there I know it is not easy.  I drew the brows in everyday and used eyeshadow and eyeliner to hide the no last appearance.

    Andrea,

I finished chemo (AC & Taxotere) February 21st. Somewhere during chemo I lost my eyelashes and eyebrows. Now I have more eyelashes than I've ever had before! The eyebrows are coming in just fine too. Funny thing is that the eyebrows grew first in the areas I had always waxed or plucked out!!

Hang in there. So many things happen that you don't have control over. It's not easy but try to concentrate on the things you can control. Even if it's just something simple.

Always remember that right here you can get wonderful support and information from some very caring people who know just how you're feeling.
