Cally DIEP looks soo cool ! I am happy for you that it worked out, and yes if you do not mind I do want the recipe for the toffee, chocolate covered matza for seder ( will surprise

    my sisinlaw)

Deloris  losing 24 pounds is no small victory, you are my hero ! The pounds will continue melting away, I know the feeling of getting stuck at a certain weight, sometimes even going

up a pound or two for several weeks, despite being on the plan. But then suddenly 3-4 went off ! I think of it this way, the harder to lose the harder to gain, it has to work that way right ?

Terry I row too ! ( single scull ) and found a Row for theCure put together by Susan Comen in town in August, wonder if they have a survivor team. And yes I too would go nuts on the

core so have to count my bites doing flex.

I have my weigh in tomorrow, I did not count points up to today but I stopped my binges I think things are getting under control. We just had to hit haagen daaz with paxton when she came over to visit not feeling bad about indulging when it is worth it(unless it is always)

    Love !

Cally- I've had that matzo recipe with the toffee/chocolate- daughter has made it and it is really good. Just FYI daughter is Jewish and I am not, but I've learned to be Laughing. Her biological dad is and she converted-it's more of a cultural/identity thing for her. I've found it a nice addition to our lives and I love the seder ritual and imagery. Anyhow, back to the topic(s) at hand. Cally -I used to do with cigarettes what you're doing with the toffee matzo Embarassed. I am so glad you got your PS situation resolved.

Deloris- congratulations on your weight loss! I am a "slow loser" too. It does get slower when you have less to lose. Keep us posted on how you are doing towards your goal and any words of wisdom you have about staying on track, etc. You don't lose that much weight by luck so obviously you are doing a lot right! What kinds of recipes/foods do you like?

The good thing with slow loss is that you are building good habits for maintenance. I know that in order to maintain I can only eat a LITTLE BIT more than what I eat now. It can be a hard thing to get with weight loss- that you always have to be working hard at losing or maintaining. It's not like when you paint your house and you can just leave it for 10 years until it's time to do it again. Go back to "business as usual" after weight loss and those pounds will jump right back on.

Aylin- I hate to say it but my experience has been that it's always hard to lose and always really easy to gain...unbelievably easy in my case. Getting a lot of exercise helps but I can recall maintaining a few extra pounds even while running 20-25 miles per week by telling myself I could have extra food (umm NOT) since I was burning so much off.  I remember someone telling me "Gee you don't look like most long distance runners I know." Grrr. (But it was true!).

So today is weigh in day and I am happy to report that I weighed in this morning at 127.2, -3.2 from 2 weeks ago which for me is excellent. My neighbor has signed up for the Danskin Tri and we are going to be training together which is a huge mental boost. She's really excited about it and I like her a lot- great to have an enthusiastic training partner right next door. Hopefully my knee will cooperate in all this. I had a cortisone shot in it Friday and we'll see how it does. Aylin- have you ever seen people walk/powerwalk the run portion of a tri? It's not what I want to do but I will if I have to. I really want to do the event no matter what.

    How's everyone else doing today?

    Good day to everyone,

Okay, here's my weigh -in - and it's less than I hoped for - .1lb. this last week. That's 3 lbs. in 2 weeks.

I think it's the holiday cooking & tasting. Especially the toffee choc matza. Also, I've JUST begun to feel

peripheral neuropathy in my fingers. Chemo ended March 19th. I had none before. I guess you just never know. I'll put in a call to the onc. today & let her know.

I think I've also overdone it on the holiday preparations, dealing w/daughter's case of mono, band concerts, etc....So I'm feeling "that pull" like after the SNB, I'm pretty achy & tired & feel slightly bloated...I sure hope my cycle stays away after we thought the chemo blasted it last November and it's not been seen since.

I'll try to take it more easy today. Parents arrive tomorrow a.m.

And thanks!! for all the good wishes re: surgery, but the jury is still out to decide which way we go... just

waiting for that call from the doc - he said Saturday and I hope he will call then. We'll decide on the phone right there & then. I've had enough indecision and want to get going either way.

So I'm okay, tired...daughter, mono Mir home with 100+ fever today, poor kid. The sun is shining & it will be warmer today. I'll push a walk/run - maybe just walk today on the trail/fields w/the dogs.

Allyson, we are a mixed religion tie dye family. My husband though raised Methodist, abandoned it & feels closest kinship to native American (Sioux). He was raised in Sioux territory. He doesn't practice, just ultra respectful of the natural world. Because of the girls & I, he knows many Jewish prayers, ritual, etc...

I'm culturally tied with being Jewish & appreciate some of the leanings and focus of the religion, but I'm a bit of a maverick with it all. Except for the food.. cooking is a hobby and a pleasure for me most of the time.

I'll think of DEloris for weight loss inspiration & Allyson & Aylin, always good to hear your clacks.

    happy spring,

    Cally

It's a hoot isn't it? I'm so glad it can give you a lift. oooh that male pattern baldness look is not for me... I prefer the sleek, clean shaven look. Those traitor hairs who once fled the scene begin to return... I expect still black (little to no gray) & thick, like early January's return!

Yes! I will be having recon/mastx same time. Meeting w/one more ps to decide on doc & surgery date... hooray! pushing the enevelope has been much of my life's MO.

hope you're moving through life with some ease! cheers, Cally

Here are my stats, considering that I have not been doing any point calculation and have had several
major binge attacks I still think it has been successfull:

    April 1 - 164
    April 8 - 164.6
    April 15 - 163.2

    total loss: .8

Basha I fell in love with sculling after I read : ROWING AGAINST THE CURRENT: On Learning to Scull at Forty
Rowing is meditative I love greeting the day on the water watching the sun rise.

I have never been competitive but will be entering my first event Row for the Cure benefiting Susan Komen fnd. in
August, and am really psyced up  inspired by Cotting Companies - http://www.cottingco.com/in/about/index.html so
am looking into getting some assistance from the coaches ( I am a member of  Orlando Rowing Club)

Allyson let me tell you that I have been working the Orlando Danskin as a volunteer the past several years. And last year
I was a swim angel ( who help swimmers by carrying noodles and accompanying them) and I had to drag one lady from
her lifejacket ( YES SHE WAS WEARING A LIFE JACKET) all through the swim course. There are a lot of walkers !It is an extremely
low key event and their goal is to make everyone finish ! And no one come last.. thats why Sally Edwards comes last.

3.2 pounds in 2 weeks that is excellent !!!

Cally hope you get rid of the neuropathy it is strange that it developed after chemo ended. Did you stress those fingers/feet
by any chance ? I got it during taxol and I notice that it gets more pronounced on the ball of my feet after I stress them such
as in Downward Dog in yoga.

I will try to find time to do those choc. matza, but am not sure that I could be trusted with them afterwards lol..

Oh our religious situation is kind of interesting too. I am Moslem, and my husband is Jewish.. so when we fight we have middle east war .. hehe.. ! I do not practice any religion and he is pretty relaxed but I love the Haggadah and while everyone moves on with dinner I curl up somewhere with it.. tried to suggest it to my book club but could not get that by !

This week will be a better ww week for me.

What did everyone do in their weigh ins ?

Aylin- I would definitely call the .8 loss a success. It is so hard to lose ANY weight (IMO and experience). I have learned to give myself credit for any weight loss or postive changes in eating/exercise behaviors. Thank you so much for sharing your Danskin Tri experience. You have no idea how much that image of having the women with the noodles around has helped my anxieties. As I think I've said (thanks chemo brain!) I am a perfectly competent swimmer but am afraid of deep open water. I could be that woman with the life jacket Embarassed.  Very good also to know that if I HAD to walk the run I could. FYI I am more athletic than this sounds- just good to have the pressure off.

On the religious front- funny how several of us have such a mix. I am Buddhist (raised as Unitarian by former French Canadian Catholics), daughter Jewish as I said, husband is former Catholic, and son in law comes from a family of Nazarene Christians. Like you I love the Haggadah "liturgy." Parts of it speak to me to such an extent that it brings tears to my eyes. I imagine that the bitterness/sweetness imagery, etc., will particularly hit me this year, having tasted so much of both the bitterness and sweetness of life-all mixed together in this past year.

On the food/chocolate matzo- I find some things I just can't have in the house. I'd be hard pressed to have a binge here even if I wanted to. I do keep a few "safe" sweets on hand. There's a box of organic chocolate pudding mix that I could mix up- been there for 3 months- a box of "no-Pudge" brownie mix which I'd make if stepdaughter were coming over. I do have organic dark chocolate and usually eat 3 points worth every day- seems to satisfy an important need and as a result keeps me on the straight and narrow without feeling like I'm deprived.

I am so excited to see this thread! Two years ago when I was in the throes of chemo, I lost a ton of weight as could not taste a thing and was very depressed. Once my tastebuds came back, I started eating with a vengeance! Last fall my oncologist told me I needed to lose some weight so I joined WW with a good friend and really love it. I'm doing the flex plan but plan to switch to core once I get down to my goal weight; I think core might be the healthier option for me with its emphasis on vegetables, whole grain food, etc. Since October of last year, I've lost 15 pounds. That's been helped by the training I started doing in January for the upcoming Avon Walk for Breast Cancer in DC. Just two weeks away~ So my meeting leader said I will really need to readjust my eating habits once all this training ends or I'll put all that weight back quickly!

My big weakness is ice cream, and I know the sugar is not good for us; the one point WW fudge bars are a good alternative but I'd still like to find something sweet that is healthier, not so risky. Any thoughts?

Aylin- Happy Monday!!! Today is the day, right?! I hope your experience of finishing treatment is like mine was, a huge sigh of relief and all uphill from there.

Briggette- I find chocolate sorbet to be an excellent ice cream stand in. It does have sugar of course but no fat or other unhealthy ingredients. Haagen Daaz makes a good one.

I took two 12 mile bike rides this weekend, which I totally loved. Went to the seder on Saturday and did overdo it with the chocolate/toffee matzo. The moment of truth will be when I get on the scale Wednesday. The bike rides helped I am sure, but it is always easier not to take in the calories than to burn them off, even for people who workout at lot. Definitely helping that I am training for the triathlon and that my neighbor has joined me! Basha and unlimited- congratulations on your losses.

Keep up the good work everyone!

Hey to all you Weight Watchers!  Congratulations on all your successes!  This post caught my eye for two reasons - 1. I am a former WW member and 2. I am so fat and miserable thanks to chemo weight gain.  Have you all tried the Core Program?  I am so addicted to sugar right now, more so than ever before in my entire life, and I have got to stop it!  I would love to hear from anyone who has tried the Core Program.  I have also considered the South Beach Diet too-- would love to have feedback if you have some to offer.

    Best of Luck!

    Mary Jo-

Glad you found this thread! I have tried the core program and used it with some success for a while. I prefer the Flex program, however, with an emphasis on Core foods. I also use The Beck Diet Solution, by Judith Beck. It's not a diet but rather focuses on how to diet by changing self defeating attitudes and behaviors- I highly recommend it- especially for getting back on track after a major setback or problems with out of control eating. I have tried the South Beach Diet too- it's okay but I still find WW flex the most user friendly diet of all.

Speaking of getting back on track- I need to. My day was busy and I did not count points or do my usual planning. I know if I don't I will be disappointed on weigh in day. I did exercise today- walked and jogged a little with my neighbor/training partner. So far my knee seems okay so maybe there is more running on the horizon- hope so!

Well gals, Did I eat over this last Passover weekend? - and how! It was deeee-licious. Yep! Jewish soul food. I gained about 2 lbs as of this a.m. I almost got back on track today. I felt I had to finish the last of the toffee, chocolate matza - to save myself and others from eating it. Now that's pigging out psychology, eh?

Good news, I took a long run/hike with the dogs & did some heavy gardening. Even though I'm feeling that SNB stretch in my arm again, (time to try top slow myself down again!) the peas are planted, some seedlings started & the garden is being cleared - showing the miracles of messy garden over wintering.. I juiced & ate salads also, so I hope by t his Wed. weigh-in, to lose those 2 over the weekend. It will be a minor miracle if I can do it.. I think I'll try juicing 2-3 x tomorrow & just eat a little protein. I think I can, I think I can....

My head is getting that halo - hooray! It's starting to grow back. I'll have definite surgery date for mastx & DIEP same time, later this week, but it won't be later than May 28. IF I have to wait that long, I should have some hair by then and enough time to be in pretty good shape.

    I think I can, I think I can...

And good luck to you - everyone. I think you can, I think you can....

    Hey Brigitte,

Awesome job on the 15 pounds it seemsso far away now.

For sweets  I sometimes nuke fruits and top them with fat free cool whip.

    Blueberries and peaches or
    Apples do pretty well.

Applesauce also sometimes does it for me.

Basha, you are sharing 'the bliss' of rowing hehe.. The row for the cure that I am doing is in Orlando details are at www.orlandorowingclub.com want to come out ? That would be stellar !

Allyson I butchered  chocolate/toffee matzos- which probably waas a good thing. But still did some damage with the macaroons that my sisinlaw made.. yum...

MJ !!! we meet again-(ps she is my september chemo buddy!) I bet I can gain weight with the core plan so I am doing flex.

Cally you are too funny.. growing a halo haha !

Yesterday was my last rad day so my day went like this:

6:00 am greet the sun by rowing on glasslike water!
8:30 - say bye to the awesome radiation group, get radiation graduation diploma YEAHHH ! Hugs kisses, teary eyes...
9:00 - drop road bike to shop for servicing.. will be starting putting in major miles.
9:00 - Go to favorite Power Yoga class.. ahhh..  !!
    11:00 - get a mani pedi
    1:00 - get a facial
.. 4 - come home and crash in front of tv !!!

Ok let me cut to the chase, as I suspected I did not lose much. Before all this I used to be able to lose 3-4 pounds/week.. now I am stuck from the beginning, geesh just like my oncologist said ' Honey, your metabolism came to a screeching halt and it will take time for it to recover'

    Weigh in stats:

    April 1 - 164
    April 8 - 164.6
    April 15 - 163.2

    April 22 - 162

    total loss: 2 pounds

Well at least it is going in the RIGHT direction.

Sigh.. I just wanted to drop 10 pounds before starting tamoxifen I have only 3 weeks !

Well I gained one..wrong direction - but not too much damage I suppose.

And I'm with you - stuck at 2 lbs. total loss

    April 2- 151

    April 9- 149

    April 16- 148

    April 23 -149.

Just came back from new PS meeting - was hoping he was my guy...

turns out he doesn't even do DIEP, just TRAM. I'm too weary to start talking to more docs right now.

I'll call the original PS in my group & talk to him again - there are 2 others at Cleve. Clinic who

also do DIEP. It'll depend on my NRG level to keep this up.

I'll do some more gardening today. That always settles me down - to earth! Actually, I'm a previous pleasure boat sailor - but I live in Ohio now. Please say hi to the ocean....

I know you can do 6 lbs in 3 weeks - maybe more right! And you CAN lose weight on Tamoxifen too!!!

Thanks again for keeping track... I need it

I was just telling the girls at CURVES  while working out - how Im excited for Thursday now  lol  ---   bc this is actually is working for my - Im doing the flex- points   etc ------

In the past I always blamed it on my underactive thyroid -- and then top it off  -- the Tamoxifen that I started late July 2007 ........

Finally Im seeing the weigh go down  and it is motivating to stick with the prg -----   even though I have lost 5.4 TOTAL  last week at my WW prg  -- I am down a solid 10 pounds  since really watching my weight since Feb 16....   but as u can see I'm consistant with WW as Im discovering bc Im following guidelines.  ( now I wished I would have joined WW in Feb  LOL -- - but I figured I would know how to do it -  but the support of others and the accountibilty of weekly weigh ins are a BONUS  to finally in my LIFE to STICK with it !!!  )

So I will be back later tonite to let u girls know how I did =)

128.2 yesterday morning (weigh in day) up 1.0 from last week. I definitely did not stay within my points allotment this week, nor did I plan and track as I need to. This is an excellent example of when WW doesn't work (when you don't follow the program) and when The Beck Diet Solution/Judith Beck can come to the rescue. I am going to use the BDS checklist today and all week to get my dieting behaviors back on track. I need to make time for dieting (meal planning, shopping, preparation) and plan my meals in advance for the day (among other things). I'll let you know how it goes. On a positive note I have been VERY consistent with the exercise- going for a track run/walk with my neighbor in a little while. Good thing for the exercise or I'd probably be up 2-3 pounds!

Aylin- you are doing great! Now that you are done with radiation it won't be long till you have the energy to start logging the bike miles, etc. Sounds like you have gotten the binge monster under control too! Cally and Unlimited keep up the good work- I am giving myself (and you guys) credit for keeping the setbacks in perspective.

Maybe I need to check in daily or at least more often re: what I am DOING as far as sticking with WW and using the Beck skills- just to be more accountable and get support for staying on track rather than just focusing on the weight and the weigh in. My big goal today is to do meal planning and shopping. I didn't make enough time for this this week and that led to random eating which led to +1.0 .

Cally smart move on DIEP, I really do not like my silicone girls, although it only has been 2.5 months and I am told that they will drop and fluff they are tight.

    Well chocolate matzoh's ehemm... lol = +1 ;o)

Thanks for the encouragement let me tell you that the last time I went on a nutrition plan I had lost 14 pounds in 3 weeks, so have to get used to this sluggish metabolism where I only lost 2 in 3 weeks. Better than nothing right ??

Unlimited 10 pounds yeah !!! thats close to 2 pounds./week which is the healthy way to lose.

Allyson you are doing great gotta stop the bad habits in their tracks(before they roll long enough to lead to a avalanche). On the weeks that I was not following ww to the dot, the fact that I had to show up for the meeting and weigh in stopped me from hitting the closest convenience store for my milky way fix !

Tonight i have a book club meeting luckily we agreed to have healthy food, but there is 1 thing that we will indulge.. a chocolate soufle !!! ahhh... .thats where the 35 points are going!

Weekend is here girls, lets show what we can do and do not do any 'damage' that is justified by 'points' !

    Have a stellar weekend !

Checking in here. I am feeling really pleased with myself that yesterday I did not do any unplanned eating. It definitely helped that I got all the trigger foods out of my house (unfortunately by eating too much of them every afternoon in the previous week, but oh well, that's over). I feel so relieved to know that there is no more chocolate in the house, except for cocoa powder, 1 box of organic chocolate pudding mix, and 1 box of No-Pudge brownie mix- all "safe" foods for me- they'll probably still be there next month. Last night after dinner we wanted a little snack while watching "The Office" and pulled the jar of popcorn out from the back of the cupboard and made up a batch on top of the stove. No butter added (for me this is no acheivement as I don't like butter on my popcorn). We both felt really good about this healthier choice- popcorn is a favorite snack that somehow fell by the wayside. It was nice to go to bed with no regrets about what I'd eaten during the day. I also did another 14 mile bike ride with my neighbor yesterday morning and am feeling really good about getting back in shape. It's also nice to look in my cupboards and to see only healthy foods in there.

    How are you all doing?

I notice we all are losing weight quite slowly. But better slow than not at all. I started making yogurt shakes for an afternoon snack. Abut 4 points and totally deelicious. 1c frozen blueberries, 1 cup lowfat yogurt, 1 small banana and ice.

Today is my weigh-in day, I had a really stressful/tiring  weekend ( house hunting.. we are planning to move, and witnessed a sommersaulting SUV which almost fell on our car while we were stopping at a red light after it hit a stupid driver head on  !!! ) and I unfortunately reverted to my short term fix - food.

Hopefully I was able to stay stable at least.

Well gals, surprisingly I lost a bit last week. Slowly and surely the weight is coming down I think. Even though I did have several 'episodes' to release .. steam last week.

Maybe this week I will stay within my points

    April 8 - 164.6
    April 15 - 163.2

    April 22 - 162

    April 29 - 160.4

    total loss: 3.6 pounds

    Greetings ladies,

weigh-in today for me below: Nothing impressive, but at least it's in the right direction.

Just came back from Drs w/terrible cold/virus. I got an antibiotic scrip, just in case I may need it.

    Today is also my youngest daughter's b'day - 13 - a teenager, yeah!

    Party w/15 girls this Saturday! Stress, stress stress w/docs, w/husband - - that's why I'm sick I'm sure.

And chilly temps- all great excuses to eat more, exercise less, but any excuse will do....

Sometimes It feels lik ei"m not going to get through this w/my family intact

But I'm already looking forward to weighing in again next week with hopes of -2!

Aylin, great work - you really are moving those lbs now. I hear your silicone twins will fluff up!

    Hmmm, fluffy, not perky?

10 lbs Unlimited & Ashaby! Your machines are in motion!

Alyson, weigh in today? You amaze me because of your micro-counting. I'll bet you have great self control.

Hey ladies, any advice on what kind of scale to use? Mine fluctuates way too much.

Keep up the good work all! inspire inspire...

    Me:

    April 2- 151

    April 9- 149

    April 16- 148

    April 23 -149.

    April 30- 148
