    VMD,

I think your wife needs to ask her PCP for a referral to a nutritionist. It is true that being overweight is bad for health overall -- it not only increases BC risk, but also can contribute to adult onset diabetes, arthritis, artheriosclerosis, etc. If your wife feels her excess weight is putting her health at risk, she needs to get some guidance and care from a professional so she can lose weight and become more fit in a way that won't harm her.

    Best of luck!

    Annie

    vmd,

Both formygirls and HeatherBLocklear have very sound advice.  It would be good for your ex-wife to see a nutritionist, and 900 calories per day is a starvation diet!  1200 calories per day is a minimum for most adult women.

Also, new diet research shows that it can be helpful to mix in a "moderate binge" day, and a "moderate fast day" every two weeks or so.  1200 calories a day for 2 weeks, then 1800 or 2000 or even 2400 for a day, then 900 for day.  Most bodies benefit from this "curve ball" -- because most bodies will adjust to a steady low-cal diet by going into a "starvation mode" of low metabolism to maintain weight even on the restricted calorie diet.  But a nutritionist could really help.

Thank you formygirls and Annie.  I'll pass that information on to her.
