    Well!....I'll be darned.

I am too tired to bake a bunch of cookies that I wouldn't eat. I only shop in quik marts or do drive-thrus.  My house is an external reflection of the goings on in my mind.  I want it clean but for some reason, my house obeys the first and second laws of thermodynamics and I don't have the spark of energy to kick off the cleaning therefore my house is rapidly headed toward disorder at the speed of light.

I am chronically worried and just plain not happy right now.

And if I made a mud-pie, I'd likely just throw it at somebody!

That wasn't my point Hanna.  The last thing in the world I wanted to suggest is that you find joy in the same things I do, or Jung.  I'm just suggesting that if you want a clean house, and I think we all do, that the way to get there may be doing something completely separate and apart from housework.  Think back to times before bc, before adulthood.  What were things you really LIKED to do?

Well as a kid I never liked to clean my room.  So I suppose I'm continuing with that.  I started being afraid of cancer at the age of 11.  So I'm continuing with that.

The only thing I liked to do as a kid that I'm not doing now is swim. There is no pool here.  I also liked standing in the rain in the summer and getting totally soaked.  I'm positive this would be considered unacceptable behavior by my husband if during the upcoming summer we should have a torrential rain (those were the kind I liked) and I went outside and laid down on the steamy pavement to get pelted with big fat raindrops, or ran through the grass with my top off.  These were some of my faves as a kid.

As I got older, I totally loved making out with my boyfriends, but that is also a no-go at this point.

I also liked Play-Doh.  OK Althea, what can you do with me?

ps - please don't tell me to clean my room - I heard that a lot as a kid!

Hanna, don't play with the play-doh.  It'll just make MORE mess for you to clean up.  I know.  When my grandkids play with it it gets every where. Hannah, I don't believe you can lie down in the pavement while the drenching rain falls on you, nor do I believe you can run outside in the rain TOPLESS! Surprised  I'd suggest you go make a mud cake!  Laughing

I really want to make this mud cake that's called Red Velvet Cake.  Have the ingredients, just need to get my arse up and make it.  Then, I either have to give half of it away or freeze because I like to cut these little "slivers" which, when cut about 20 times during the day, becomes three pieces of cake!

When I was a kid I loved to go to the skating rink.  HAHA!  Won't do that now.  I'd fall and bust my arse!  And probably end up with a broken hip.

Hey Shirley!  Hi!  Where did I ask you this....probably some other thread....did you have to make your husband cubed steak or pork chops again last night??!  Don't those daggone meals just keep on coming around!  Tonight's chicken at my house.

OK, no laying on the pavement in a downpour - this I can pretty much promise, but it's a shame.  Now Althea up there would probably say go for it.  On the other hand, I'm getting hungry here and this Red Velvet cake is sounding pretty good.  Hmm.

I'm grabbing my keys and going to the store now.  It'll be a mix for sure, but what the heck?  Just say the word chocolate and MY arse is kicked into gear!!  Thanks you Carolina sweetie pie!!

Hanna, I loved playdoh too when I was a kid!  I also remember sneaking out the back door during a torrential rain storm.  I wasn't in the rain, just under the eave, but I got yelled at for being outside.  Where I live now, the rain doesn't come very often, but I love to stand on the covered patio during a rainstorm.  It's never occurred to me to lie down on the pavement while it's raining, but lying on the grass and letting the rain come down all over me sounds pretty darn appealing.  You're right, I think you should do it.

Desperate times call for desperate measures, and if it means that your loved ones think you're nuts, then let'm think it.  Perhaps it will give them an inkling that we are DESPERATE to feel better again.  And I'm going to disagree with Shirley about the mess from the playdoh.  You probably have a messy house anyway.  Why not surrender to it for a while and do something that gives you pleasure for an afternoon, or thirty minutes even.  Cleaning your room is the last thing you should do!  Go get some playdoh, pronto.

I do think Shirley was on the right track with that youtube video.  That DEFINITELY put a big smile on my face.  :)

Hanna, I cooked the chops last night and chicken tonight.  Saw I spelled your name wrong UP THERE.  My granddaughter's name is HannaH..with an H..lol

I "allow" my grandbabies to play with playdoh.  It's their father that hates the mess.  Heck, when they're here the house is wrecked anyway.  It's wrecked when they're not here!

I can't get my act together cuz I've been too lazy to make that red velvet cake.  It's good for ya though.  You puree beets and put in it...makes it purtty and red (I guess).  Get this...for the icing you whip up heavy cream..whipped cream..use cream cheese and another fancy cheese that I cannot remember the name of.  Also, of course, powdered sugar.  After you cream the cheeses and sugar and vanila you fold that into the whipped cream.  Oh, I'm going to have to give 3/4 of it away if it doesn't come out like crap.

    Maybe tomorrow......

BTW, I baked the cake yesterday for my dh's b'day.  Good excuse to make such a high fat, high calorie cake.  I finally had a small piece last night, and believe it or not it was good and moist.  Must be those good ole beets in it.  Not only are the beets healthy, but there's a lot of dairy product ON the cake...mucho calcium!  LOL  The history behind the beets in the cake....they were used in the depression to make Red Velvet cake because something-or-another (probably the food coloring) was too expensive.  I can't remember what I read...So, I'll steal...Pardon me if I repeat myself. Can't remember jack.  (BTW, who's "jack?").  When I have time I'll look it up.

    Attention!!  Beet warning here!!

Shirley!  About your beet cake...I bet it WAS terrific!  Really, veggies in cakes ARE always good you know?  Carrots, zucchini, beets too although I never had them yet in a cake, but plan to.

The thing is, Trigeek mentioned on some other post somewhere about getting red poops from drinking a lot of pureed beet juice, SO.......be on the lookout and don't freak, so to speak, if you take a peek......Wink

Shirley, jack is short for jack sh*t or jack squat.  People say things like can't remember jack.  Can't do jack.  Yeah, well, you don't know jack, etc.  Maybe it's a yankee expression?

Now Hanna has me thinking about carrot cake with cream cheese frosting. damn.

I don't fit into any of my clothes and you're both making me so hungry for a rich, moist cake with lots of frosting.  I wonder how long till I cave.

Mmmmm, I want some cake too. Too tired to bake one, guess I'll have to settle for a chocolate chip granola bar. Definitely won't be as good.

I so agree with Deb on the ironing. . .want to add one more thing, Downy Wrinkle Release. That stuff's magic. Squirt it on, smooth it out and let it dry. Love it!

I just had left over chocolate birthday cake for breakfast.  I skipped the icecream and had a glass of milk.....that makes it healthy, right?  Oh, and I ate it off a papertowel so I didn't have to unload the dishwasher to get a plate....can you say LAZY?

You guys crack me up, and make me feel less guilty.  Whoop de doo - I'm just like a whole lot of other women, all of whom are smart and funny.

I don't iron - I have one and I think I remember how to do it, but I haven't for years.  Some napkins from Christmas dinner are still waiting- likely they will wait until this December.

I eat cake over the sink - that isn't lazy - that's ecological.  Well that's my story and I'm sticking to it.

Cake. I love cake. I have always loved cake. I really love cake and ice cream cause no matter when I have cake and ice cream I feel like I'm at a birthday party.

Carrot cake is VERY healthy.  Also it weighs a lot when you pick it up. It weighs more than chocolate cake.  I'm wondering about this beet cake.  I've seen mixes for Red Velvet cake but no where on the box does it confess there are supposed to be beets in there.  Devil's food cake is the only cake name that creeps me out.  Angel food cake sounds better but it is like condensed cotton candy in my opinion.  Plus, it always sticks to the roof of my mouth.  I like pound cake. And spice cake.

I also like the old fashioned cakes like the brown sugar, and the orange juice cake, and the 1234 cakes.  There was a cake that had some kind of soda in it. Like soda pop, not baking soda.  It was called Watergate cake, but I forget what soda was in it.

I love cream cheese frosting.  Now there's an excellent frosting!

I have lo-cal itsy bitsy Hostess creme filled cupcakes in the house right now, so they'll have to do for the time being.

Now I want to try Shirley's latest chicken recipe.  Sounds delish!

    Tongue out

Darn, I can't find the story about why beets were used.  When I have time I HAVE to try to find it.

The cake I made was not really red.  I only used 1 teaspoon of red coloring.  If I made it again I would't use it at all.  It's healthier not to not that cake is healthy anyway!

There is a recipe book out there where you add pureed veggies to cookies, cakes, etc., to get your kids to eat them..like brownies.

Why in the heck I made this cake I DON'T KNOW...I certainly don't need the calories.  OH YES, I know why I made it.  For my dh's b'day.

Patrice, thanks for educating me on "Jack." LOL  I've heard the expression before FROM MY DH.  But now I know who/why Jack is used.  Makes me feel good to know MORE than he does.  However, he does admit (sarcastically), you're the only one in THIS HOUSE that knows anything.  And, of course, I agree with him.  LOL

Deb, I have cake for breakfast too because I'm too lazy to fix anything else EVEN a bowl of cereal!  But it sure is good with my coffee.

Hanna, as far as I know my poop isn't red YET.  However, I really have not inspected it that closely. Laughing

Honeygirl, don't blame us for you wanting to bake a cake.  You know you want to eat it.  LOL  You have a choice, to not bake or to bake.  Now, what choice are you going to make?  The healthy one, or, like some of us, the unhealthy one.  However, remember my cake had veggies and plenty of calcium from the cheeses and heavy whipping cream!  We won't discuss the fat content cuz I don't know what it is.

And, Hanna, the recipe with the chicken breast, ricotta cheese, and crushed tomatoes was pretty good and easy..low carb...from S. Beach diet.  You could add more seasoning if you wish.  And, if you want pasta as a side you could use Marinara sauce.  However, the chicken and spinach was enough for me because I had dessert waiting...CAKE! LOL

Oh come on Shirley , I have to blame someone besides me! "I'm eating chocolate cake cause Shirley made me"!lol Geesh , what happened to all my willpower!? Before bc , I lost eighty pounds! Was walking a mile a day on my treadmill. I've gained 30lbs. since dx. I guess I am an anxiety and comfort eater. Tonight I made chicken breasts , steamed veggies. I am going to try to get back in the "zone". I think that having bc I feel I deserve to eat anything or do anything I want. I've got to get a grip! But I can't seem to get any motivation to do it. gsg , I still haven't cleaned off my hutch and diningroom table. Oh , I said I would post a pic of it. Help!

Yes , on the hutch is Christmas stuff that I haven't put away...

Aw, Honeygirl, it ain't that bad.  I've seen much worse.  Mine! LOL

I know what you mean by having willpower to lose weight BEFORE bc.  I had lost over 20 pounds and still needed to lose more.  Well, I do not know where the will power or motivation went.  I hate myself!

I fixed a nice dinner that was healthy.  Then, I ate a piece of cake and I wasn't even hungry!  Getting that thing out of my fridge!

Shirley, I'm glad you baked that cake.  Now I can fess up to baking a cake without fear of getting exiled from this thread.  LOL  I know why beets are used in that cake.  It goes back to the days when sugar was rationed during WWII and beets provided some sugar content and the right color for devils food.  I hope you and hubby enjoyed every last morsel.

I tried a new recipe today for a cake.  Today is my cat's birthday, so what better reason to bake a cake.  It's Mother Ann's Birthday Cake.  It's from a shaker cookbook I checked out from the library.  I was in there looking for vegan cookbooks because I'm trying to scale back consumption of dairy and egg products.  I don't like beans and I've steered clear of soy since dx.  I suck as a vegan and I haven't even started yet.  Especially when the next shelf has a shaker cookbook and I'm quite certain it was calling my name.

This cake calls for TWELVE egg whites and a half pound of butter.  It's a white cake with white frosting, and I really don't care for frosted cakes usually.  I found it so intriguing, I just had to try it.  The historical part described the women finding fresh twigs of peach trees to impart a peach flavor into the egg whites.  I mean, really, this has got to be a pretty darn good cake if women not only separated a dozen eggs but then used a TWIG to beat the egg whites until they're stiff??  And there there's two more egg whites in the frosting!  It's a 3 layer cake with peach jelly inbetween the layers.  I couldn't find peach and used apricot instead.  Boy howdy, this cake is really good cake.  I even like the frosting.  I doubt I ever make one again in my life!

Next time, I'm doing pound cake.  It's my favorite also.  Probably 90% of the cakes I've baked in my lifetime is pound cake.  It's good at breakfast, lunch or dinner.  Anytime.  I wonder how many times I'll need to jump on my new rebounder to burn all these cake calories.

honeygirl, i seriously thought your table was an "after cleaning" picture.  it's not bad at all!  i was happy to see the laundry basket next to your hutch, however.  LOL.  You hardly have any Christmas decorations out.  When I get a chance, I'll have to take a picture of what my husband has done to one part of my family room with Christmas decorations he was going to sort through.  He did it last November and the stuff is still sitting there.  We no longer have access to the sliding door to the outside as a result.   He's a strange one.  He is sooooooooo neat when it comes to his stuff.  His closets, drawers, tools would give felix unger (the neat odd couple) a run for his money.  But if he's organizing stuff in the house, he'll pull everything out and then leave it for months.  Makes me crazy...except now that I've become a slob I can't yell at him for it.

I bet your office doesn't go 1-2-3 with mine.  In some ways, it's worse than the pic of my dining room table i posted because I have stuff all over the floor in here too.

i am pleased to report, i've been keeping my kitchen table exactly as it looks on page 11 of this thread.  when my dining room depresses me, i go look at the kitchen table.

Have to love this thread! :D  Just sat down an hour ago to catch up on the board and decided to grab a rather large slab of double chocolate brownie with chocolate frosting I made last night for lunch!  OF COURSE, I also grabbed a large glass of milk so I did get some nurtition also! :)  But I have to admit it was a box mix, not from scratch as you 'Betty Crocker's do!  Wow!  I'm not a baker at all, just a quicker-fixer-upper when it comes to cravings of the heart, er...stomach :)

Wanted to add though...........can't remember who it was that thought they 'shouldn't' go lay down on the pavement in the rain?  DO IT!  Only today, I'd have to do it on a hill that was easier to roll off when it was time to get up! :D  And the play doh?  Heck! I used to have the kids do it outside where the rain could wash away the crumbs created!  You could too! :D  OR!!!!!!  you COULD combine both your loves!  Play with your playdoh when the rain is due in a hour and then wash up while laying in the grass after the play-doh party! :D

If you love to do, why not! DO IT!  Life is simply too short and too serious to NOT DO IT! :D

Oh, and I should add.................I cleaned my desk on April 18th or there abouts.  Today it is 1/2 covered with laundry, medical bills, pills bottles and my a few scarves I've run out places to hang :(  Oh, and a bag of chocolate Lindt truffles to boot! :(  Woe is me........................I'm bad!
