Could use some help here.  I needed to move a year or so ago because I was no longer able to handle the steps in the split level in which I was living.  I was a prisoner in my own house from the Reflex Sympathetic Dystrophy, Brachialplexapathy and the additional Femara musculoskeletal problems.

Fast forward---Perfect size single floor carriage house.---Perfect solution.

I still need to find workarounds and adaptions because of the brachialplexapathy and RSD.---But, I've become pretty good at that.

But now its spring and I'm trying to work on my mood---

It's time to get rid of the previous owners bedroom color---Lipstick RED

Every time I walk in there I think of Jack Nicholson and The Shining----

    My brain goes REDRUM REDRUM............Yell

I definitely need a mood changer

I'd appreciate any suggestions including specific colors and brands that have worked for you.

    Susie,

I think you should go from Repub  Red to a nice Dem blue. Everything is political!!

    Redrum indeed.

    LOL, Cherryl.

Hmmmm....we have a reddish foyer.  We need to paint the rest of the house, but I don't think that'll ever happen.  We had the foyer done by a pro because of wallpaper needing to come down and this new REDDISH paint going up.  I really like it.  Now, I want to do my kitchen yellow.  Have so much paneling that needs to be painted, etc., and I KNOW my dh and I will never be able to accomplish that.  First there's the cleaning, the Kilz, then I don't know how many coats of paint.

Oh, I haven't helped you.  Are you more into pastels?  Geez, I couldn't even make up my own mind!  But, I do like Benjamin Moore's paints.  Little pricey, but good.

Lavender (light) and add purple wainscoating or crown molding. Are you changing your bed colors, new comforter ect.? If not, what color are they now?

I have a nice, bright "squash" color in mine.  It's so cheerful!  My brother (a painter) says it reminds him of French's mustard.  So far my house is painted with a bunch of food and animal names.  Squash, spinach, chamelion, fawn.  A little burgundy wine mixed in to wash it all down. Tongue out  Really....it looks pretty good, lol.

    Bordello Red?!? LaughingWink

Not restful at all, I agree. I like a faint blue-grey. I have the original picture molding around my room, so that is a deeper color, the other wood molring is white. I find it very inviting.

No TV in the bedroom. Bad mojo. In every sense of the word. Wink

    comfy bed in relaxing room

Well, that came out looking a bit washed out because of the sun from the window. But the matelasse bedcover is pure white, so you can kinda see the blue-grey in the walls. You can definitely see it in the picture rail.Innocent

Cherryl---You mean my bedroom is trying to tell me to return to my party???----But If I paint my bedroom blue I'll be reminded how upset with

    my party I am----Wink

Is there a color for Independents??

Actually Lisa I like your blue.  ---Concerned about winding up with a baby blue.  Do you remember what brand or color you used? Like the way you hung the pics as well.

Paulette-- I'm not attached to my covers --It will be a good excuse to get duvet covers---Now that I'm using bulldog clips--I can finally put them on using one arm.----Workarounds---always workarounds!

Bugs--Are you talking of a Yellow Ocher ?

Shirley my own inclination is towards Bug's palette although when I paint

in my own work I tend to favor a cool palette.

My main concern is that the room becomes light and airy.

It was a Ralph Lauren color with 'Dove" in the name. That's is all I can remember. Sorry. Chemo, ya know. The ceiling is also a Ralph Lauren white, with, uhm, 'Arctic' in the name. Sad.

Good luck. My room is definitely light and airy - this is what it is like in the warm half of the year, we go off Daylight Savings and the matelasse gets replaced with a cloud of down in a pure white duvet-cover. Laughing

My bedroom needs cleaning and painting and I sure would put it here for ya'll to see. LOL

Bugs, please send your brother over here.  I loved the colors that you have painted your rooms.  Post us a picture if you dare. LOL

I would love to have some crown molding put in our foyer.  I think it would make a world of difference.  Heck, just getting dh to paint the spindles was hard enough.  I wasn't sure whether or not I wanted them painted when the painter was here.  And we have oodles of spindles.  Forgot how many I counted..the foyer is open...lie a balcony.

Now you've made me want to paint!

Thanks--that gives me something to go on---I've been bringing home those little packets of Ralph Lauren sample colors. I hear Ralph Lauren covers very well.

I hear Benjamin Moore has a new line of colors that is supposed to be very nice.

Hi Susie , my bedroom is light lilac. But a friend of mine just moved and painted her bedroom , well , its like paprika. It is sooo beautiful. Very warm and relaxing. She had found a comforter that she liked and took it to lowes and asked them to make the paint that color. It is really great. So maybe shop around for a color of something you like and take it there and they can make it for you. Good luck. Let us know what you decide on. Melody

I love earth tones. I find them calming and yet rich. My bedroom is a deep sage. It's a very peaceful and soothing colour and also brings a bit of nature indoors that I miss in the winter. I use Para or Benjamin Moore paints.....great coverage and finishes.

Tawyna--Do you know the manufacturer?  I like the Celadon greens myself but I need something light.

I'd love to see pictures of what you all have done in your bedrooms.

Actually Lisa's picture rail was a revelation to me.  I definitely have to look into that since I haven't even unpacked my artwork yet.

the Ralph Lauren colors are good. Easy to "feel" the differences since the chips don't have every color under the sun. They are warm, without being brash. I have done two rooms with the Lauren colors.... at least seven more rooms to go. Good luck choosing....

Hello, Purple is it! Not too dark. A light purple-lavender color. It is a very relaxing and soothing color for me. It may help you too. Have Fun!

Actually Lisa's picture rail was a revelation to me.  I definitely have to look into that since I haven't even unpacked my artwork yet.

I have a 90+ yr. old Craftsman Bungalow (note the teensy rooms!) and picture rails are original to the house. I have 9' ceilings (helps a bit with those tiny rooms) and the picture rail is at about 18" down from there. The walls are lath and plaster, so hanging from a picture rail made a lot of sense at the time - still does - it's not like putting a tack into drywall!

Here's what I use - and what was used 90 years ago.

As you can see, I often use ribbons or very plain cords. My decor is far simpler than the tassels and stuff in the 'kits'. Craftsman style is all about simplicity...

Hope we get to see what you decide upon!

Shirley, if my brother would have painted my house the entire thing would be blue.  He just passes along his "professional judgement" when I am finished, lol.

Hmm, if you want me to post a picture...could somebody come over and clean my room?  Heck..I'll post pictures of all my rooms if somebody comes and cleans them first. :)

Or sage green like my dd's room:

I did it myself .....  I also did my red room by myself.  Most of the house I painted but the living room and dining room walls are too high .... more than my extension ladder will go, so I had to have help on those!!

benjamin moore has some great colors that a lot of designers use, although it is on the high $$$ end.

if you like a rich neutral creamy tannish color their krisp khaki is beautiful.  dry sage is a beautiful grayish-greenish color, and those two colors work nicely together.  Those are two my sister put in her home and it's gorgeous.

mine is currently a dark cream with a creamy white trim on baseboards & closet doors...but I'm going to go darker on the walls to a cocoa color with krisp khaki trim....and will change my bedding to all crisp white or cream.  yes, that's my hot-flash fan and i should have dusted the tv before taking the pic.  oh, well.

I suggest a whisper pink on the neutral side.  You  will look lovely in that room and it won't scream PINK.

Behr interior paints are very well rated for coverage.

    What fun to be redecorating.

I love the ideas!  My bedroom is a light blue since I think I relax better with the sound of waves and this reminds me of laying in the sand on the beach.  I am also partial to light green and next will mimic the meadows of the field when I need a change.  It is difficult to cover over a bright color.  We did this in a bathroom that was almost a navy blue with primer and multiple coats of paint.  I have in the past for some of the high ceiling rooms hired a painter.  I think al the colors are a matter of personal test.  What is the dominate colors that you like in clothes, and rest of your home?

I just wanted to add a couple things...

I think a rule of thumb for picking out color schemes for your rooms is to choose colors that you like to wear.  I have a friend who painted one living room wall a pumpkin orange.  Although I love it in her house, I'm not an orange person, and wear mostly earth-tones, therefore I painted the walls muted shades: greys, ochre, dark eggplant dining room, sage.

The other rule is that paint on the walls always looks more intense than the paint chip because the walls reflect each other.

Also, a couple weeks ago I bought daffodil yellow for my daughter's room (her choice).  It was Lowe's brand, (Martha Stewart's color) and my husband said it was awful paint.  It had a strong smell that lasted for weeks, and he had to put on 3 coats to make it solid.
