It is just me, or it is getting really tiresome that nothing has been done about getting rid of this a*****e?  Most of the posts recently have been in the mets and palliative threads, which I think is just horrible and shows that this person has no conscience.  Not that we didn't know this already.  But if we are all able to find these posts so quickly after they pop up, why aren't the moderators on the look-out too?  And why hasn't anything been done yet to stop anyone who has just registered from posting with a url?  That would pretty much eliminate the problem.  This is getting very tiresome.

We're working on addressing this issue. Please send the moderators a private message if you have any questions.

Thanks for your patience in the meantime.

I don't mean to be offensive, but I've been hearing the "we're working on it" line for over 2 years now.

This individual is dangerous; he is proposing fake cures and offering false hope to individuals who require legitimate treatments.

    Regarding this type of spam:

Several sisters that i really care a lot about who post in the the recurrance and mets threads bring me to tears quite often. I am already disturbed enough every day about what these sisters are going thru with medication and chemo failures, and the amount of hopelessness they feel, and then to come to these same threads to connect with them and have to read some scum-sucking bottom feeder's attempt to trick ppl into clicking on his website so that he can make his "passive income" for all the clicks he is getting, just makes me totally freakin pissed off and crazy.  Somehow the expression, "we are addressing this issue, thank you for you patience" doesn't do a thing for me and upsets me more........i don't have anymore patience for this situation or this unethical jerk.

I agree with Beesie and Celia.

And while I agree that it is most heartbreaking and enraging to see this spam on the Metastatic Disease and Palliative threads -- what has been running a close second has been seeing these spam links among the first few responses to total newbies -- including not just the worried but those newly diagnosed.

It has been stated by the Mods that easy access for spammers is the unfortunate price we have been paying in order to maintain easy access for newbies -- but isn't this purpose nearly defeated if newbies post once and then stay away because the first response they got was a link directing them to drink quercetin four times a day??????????

I also agree that it is completely counter to the purpose of this site to not have some way to keep this PREDATOR from preying on people who are often experiencing the most tragic and desperate time of their lives. How many newbies are going to see this filth in response to a question, thinking that there must be some weight to the suggestion because it was posted here?!?

As for the mets/palliative area, it's just a HUGE slap in the face to see this garbage. Most of us have been around long enough to know that this guy is full of shit, but I'm sure there are plenty of new visitors who will click on his link before realizing what a load of crap he's pushing. By THAT time, his mission is complete: he's "earned" his income.

I remember when people were griping about the "new" boards. One thing we were all told is that this is a new, "custom" piece of software that will allow the mods more control than the previous software. If that is true, the suggestions that several of us have offered as ways to prevent this abuse should be simple to implement. If we are to believe what we've been told in the past (re: new board software), then we can only conclude that the safety of the visitors to this board is not the #1 priority or this would not still be happening.

We KNOW who this guy is, WHERE he is, and WHAT his goal is. We users have practically presented the mods/admins with this vermin wrapped up and tied with a bow.  COME ON!

    Hey ladies,

I don't have much more to add, but wanted to say that I, too, was mortified to see that spammers were posting on the mets boards.   Come on

I spent a long time that day reporting the alleged "members," and felt sickened when I'd see the threads they posted under.

So sad that people would do that to us.

This afternoon, the spammer was able to post 9 links (to "you-guessed-it dot nl") within 12 minutes of joining as "Rachel-string-of-digits."

Fortunately our group of community watchdogs got rid of all of the posts within 20 minutes, but why is it necessary that we do this when something can be done proactively to eliminate the problem?

    Grrr

Okay ladies I feel bad for the moderators they are trying there best, but don't forget what they are up against. These people know how to use different IP addresses, usernames and until the mods can fiquire it out let's just form our own watchdog system and keep bumping up the warnings especially for newbies.  I'm just so grateful we have this site and the spammers are frustrating but lets stop blaming the mods they are trying it does take time when they finally get on to one IP address and block they have another that's how spammers work.  So lets stop bitching and start helping so bump, bump, bump. Fore the newbies please. It will get sorted one day. I know you don't like to hear this but those are the facts so we can help the mods, please.

It can't be stopped as easily as we all think, they get paid to this they have unbelievable systems and their IP addresses change all the time, so if they change the user name they are in, we really need to be the watch dog. I'm looking for their spams and whenever I see them I'm bumping them. We can help!

    snowday,

It's not just a question of blocking IP addresses.  There are other options.  BC.org could institute a program whereby a newly registered user can only post a limited number of times within the first 24 hours.  Or only post within a limited number of threads.  Or not be allowed to post with urls.  Or at least to make it easier to find these scumbags, there could be a way to more easily identify those who are newly registered.

This has been going on since I joined the board - that's 2+ years ago.  Since shortly after I joined, I have been one of just a handful of women who regularly look out for these spammers and warn others when I see the spam.  I'm getting tired of it but I feel an obligation (that doesn't seem to be shared by many others who post here).  I simply don't trust at this point that "it will get sorted one day".  Sorry if you don't like the bitching, but as one of the few who has been helping with this for 2 years, I think I've earned the right to bitch.
